Welcome to Wowhead's
Specializations Guide. Here you'll find information on the new Specializations in The War Within, a few suggested builds for
Specializations, and information regarding Knowledge Points - all updated with the latest information!
Profession Knowledge Points in The War Within
Each Profession has its own Specialization Tree. Crafting profession trees focus on learning new recipes, creating items to improve your crafting, and increasing crafting Secondary Skills, which allow players to create better items. Gathering profession trees improve gathering yields, give better chances of collecting rare items, allow gathering while mounted, and even give one gathering profession a small crafting component. Secondary Skills (Fishing and Cooking) do not have specialization trees.
Unlocking Specializations requires a minimum skill level of 25 in that profession. You use Knowledge Points earned in various ways to unlock various branches of the Specialization tree.
What are Knowledge Points?
Knowledge is a currency that you will acquire during The War Within by completing NPC crafting orders, finding Knowledge Point treasures, and utilizing First Craft bonuses. These points can be spent in your profession's Specialization Trees to improve your crafting ability.
Knowledge Point changes are permanent!
Once you use a Knowledge Point and save your changes, you will not be able to adjust it later.
The way you spend Knowledge is very important. While it is possible to learn everything a Specialization has to offer, this system is meant to take a significant time investment to maximize. Because
there is no current way to refund Knowledge
, choosing starter builds wisely is crucial.
Unlearning the profession and then re-acquiring it will
not
reset or refund spent Knowledge Points.
You will get back everything you'd learned through Specialization, as well as any unspent points, although you'll still return to Skill (1) and have to re-learn any recipes.
Ingenuity and Concentration in The War Within
Inspiration was removed from World of Warcraft in The War Within Prepatch and replaced with Ingenuity and Concentration. Concentration is a finite resource tied to each crafting profession. Players can choose to use their concentration to increase the quality of their craft. For example, a Player may want to craft a Quality 5 armor piece, but can only guarantee a Quality 4 with their current skill level. They can choose to use their Concentration to make up the difference in Skill to guarantee a Quality 5. Their Concentration will slowly recharge over time. Additionally, a crafter can proc an Ingenious Breakthrough based on their Ingenuity percentage when crafting with Concentration. This will refund the crafter anywhere between 50% - 100% of the concentration used to craft the item based on their specializations.
Previously with Inspiration, crafters could not guarantee most high-end crafts and would have to rely only on Inspiration procs. This forced crafters to specialize into Inspiration and deal with RNG to produce the best quality reagents and armor. In The War Within, this is no longer the case.
All Enchanting crafts are able to be guaranteed at their highest quality
when using max quality reagents once a crafter fully specializes into the specialization nodes that affect that particular craft. Because of this, a crafter has two options:
Slow and Steady:
Since all crafts are able to be guaranteed at their highest quality, a crafter can decide to
not
put points into Ingenuity and Concentration and focus purely on gaining the most skill possible. It will take many weeks to fully specialize a craft, however, they will be able to produce as many as they want. Furthermore, if a crafter is crafting weapons, tools, or enchantments, they will want to also specialize in Resourcefulness. If a crafter is crafting reagents or oils, they will want to specialize in Multicraft.
Fast but Limited:
For more casual crafters, or players who do not want to dedicate a lot of time towards professions, they can choose to specialize in Ingenuity and Concentration. This will allow them to use less Concentration and produce more high-end quality items at a cheaper price and faster rate than others since they can use lower quality materials and use their Concentration to make up the difference in skill. The downside of this route is that you are limited in the amount of crafts you can make. Once you run out of Concentration, you will have to wait before you can produce more high-quality items.
Recommended Path for All Enchanting Builds in The War Within
An Enchanter has many options when it comes to specializing in The War Within. Some enchanters may decide to focus on Weapon Enchantments while others are more interested in Profession Tools and Wands. Whichever path you decide to focus on first, we recommend that you allocate points into the
tree.
This tree focuses on your basic Enchanting stats including Ingenuity, Multicraft, and Resourcefulness. And, unlike other trees, these nodes affect
ALL
crafts. If you want to produce items at the cheapest cost possible, it is important to unlock all of these bonuses. This means that it does not ultimately matter which order you decide to go in. However, some traits are more important depending on the type of crafts you decide to focus on. For example, if you are focusing on Enchantments or Tools, you will want to put points into
as Multicraft does not directly affect these crafts. In contrast, if you decide to pursue reagent or Mana Oil crafting first, you will likely want to max out
instead. If you want to use Concentration for crafting, you will want to specialize in
and
.
This Recommended Tree is slightly different than other professions. Immediately upon unlocking this tree, you will learn the
ability. This will allow you to shatter a reagent and gain the
buff. You will want to keep this buff active at all times during crafting as the bonuses you receive from this tree only work when
is active.
Whichever path you take, you will need to allocate 120 Knowledge Points to fully max out this tree.
The upcoming builds on this page will not have these specializations listed in their paths since they are already listed here.
Recommended Enchanting Specialization Builds in The War Within
While Players will eventually be able to complete
all
Specializations of a given Profession, early on in The War Within, Crafters will have to choose what they want to focus on primarily.
has a few different options depending on your playstyle.
In this guide, we'll cover three possible
Specialization Builds:
Enchantments Specialization - Focusing on Enchantments
Tool Specialization - Focusing on Profession Tools
Disenchanting Specialization - Focusing on disenchanting items instead of crafting
You may notice that some builds use more Knowledge Points than others - while there will be an initial burst of Knowledge for Enchanters, after utilizing the First Craft bonus, things will settle down and points will become scarcer. If you choose a Specialization Build and "finish" it, feel free to start on another!

Enchantments Enchanting Build
Enchanters are responsible for crafting a variety of Enchantments in The War Within. Mythic+ players, raiders, PvPers, Crafters, and Gatherers all need enchants to make their equipment the best it can be. While each Enchant is slightly different, they are all sold on the Region-Wide Auction House. If you are a crafter looking to sell on the Auction House and is okay with high competition, this build path will be for you.
This build focuses on the
tree. If you would prefer to focus on items that do not use the Region-Wide Auction House, you will want to choose another path instead.
As with all The War Within Specialization Builds, this Build focuses on one aspect of a profession's crafting capabilities. Given that Specializations intertwine with each other, you will reach a natural stopping point where adding additional Knowledge points no longer directly benefits the Specialization you are committed to; at that point, you will begin working towards a new Specialization build slightly ahead of the curve due to general skills being learned prior.
Knowledge Point Breakdown
In this example, we will be focusing on Chest Enchantments. You can utilize this same path design for all Enchantments, you will just need to modify which sub-nodes you choose based on the Enchantment you decide to focus on.
0-5
- This is the starting node for all Enchantment Crafting. Once you allocate 5 points into this node, you will be able to select a sub-specialization.
5-15
- Since we are focusing on Chest Enchantments, you will want to choose this sub-specialization to unlock the final sub-nodes. Remember, if you decide to focus on another enchantment type instead, you might need to unlock another sub-specialization.
15-35
- This sub-node will focus purely on Chest Enchant crafting. Upon learning this node, you will unlock the
recipe. This node will also give you the most skill in the fewest points possible, however, you may decide to max out
first if you would prefer to unlock the other sub-nodes attached to this tree quickly.
35-45
- Next, you will want to put 10 more points into
. This will grant you more skill, resourcefulness, and the ability to unlock the other 2 attached sub-nodes.
45-70
- To receive the most skill possible, you will also need to max out the main Enchantment tree node. You will also gain a permanent Crafting Speed bonus, more Resourcefulness, and more Ingenuity
Enchanters focused on Enchantment Crafting will also want to specialize in the
tree.
is very beneficial and allows crafters to reduce their crafting cost per Enchantment. More information about this Specialization Tree,
, and Ingenuity/Concentration is in the section above.
Tool Enchanting Build
Profession Tools and Wands are another great opportunity for Enchanters in The War Within, especially if they want to be self-sustaining. Enchanters are responsible for crafting their own BiS Profession Tools and casters will rely on them for their Wand crafts. If an Enchanter is interested in crafting these items, they will want to follow this path.
This build focuses on the
tree. If you would prefer to focus on items that do not use the Crafting Order system, you will want to choose another path instead. Additionally, a player can utilize this path, but modify its specific sub-specializations if they would like to craft Finishing Reagents or Mana Oils as they are a part of the same tree.
This path is an example of specializing in
Profession Tools
. If you want to specialize in another item, you will need to adjust your path slightly.
0-5
- This is the starting node for all non-Enchantment Crafting. Once you unlock this node, you will be able to select a sub-specialization.
5-15
- At 10 points into this node, you will be able to choose a sub-specialization. As a bonus, you will also gain a bit of Skill and Ingenuity.
15-35
- Once you unlock this sub-specialization, you will immediately unlock the Rare Quality Enchanting Profession Tool:
. If you want to focus purely on Profession Tools, it will be important to fully max out this node. You will gain a large amount of Skill and will use less Concentration when crafting these rods. If you want to focus on Wand crafting, you will want to choose
instead. If you would prefer to spread out your points into more categories, you will want to allocate more points into other nodes first to unlock the remaining sub-specs in this tree.
35-45
- Maxing out this sub-specialization will grant you even more skill.
45-70
- Finally, maxing out this main node will grant you the last remaining Skill and stat bonuses that this tree has to offer. From here, you are done with the Profession Tool build. You will want to specialize into
(mentioned in the previous section above) to fully max out your crafting stats.
Disenchanting Enchanting Build
Disenchanting is what makes Enchanting unique. Not only can players craft items to sell, but they can also use their profession to gather resources. The War Within Disenchanting tree mostly affects the Quality of reagents you will get when disenchanting. This will result in more gold per item. Please be mindful that this tree requires a large amount of Knowledge Points to finish. You will likely want to dedicate a character to purely Disenchanting unless you are okay with taking a long time to max out crafts as well.
These steps do not need to be completed in this exact order. Please choose which nodes you want to pick first based on the type of items you want to focus on disenchanting.
0-30
- This is the main node for all Disenchanting. You will unlock a lot of Skill towards Disenchanting which will increase the quality of reagents you receive. You'll also be able to unlock all 3 sub-specializations once it is maxed.
30-60
- This sub-node is dedicated to disenchanting Uncommon gear. You will receive higher quality reagents, more dust, and the chance of receiving additional materials back when you disenchant.
60-90
- This works exactly like the other node, but focuses on Rare gear and
.
90-120
- Similar to above, this works exactly the same way but focuses on Epic gear and
.
Disenchanting has a hidden Skill marker that determines the quality of reagents you get back. Because of this, it is very important that you also max out your Profession Level to 100/100. Since you are not crafting with this specialization, you do
not
need to worry about specializing in
.

... I think you made a mistake here...
Does multicrafting work for mana oils or not?
