Welcome to Wowhead's Guide for the World of Warcraft Recruit A Friend program, detailing how the system works and current rewards players can earn, introduced in Dragonflight Patch 10.0.7.
The Recruit A Friend program is a system Blizzard has implemented to reward both veteran and new or returning players with rewards and benefits to encourage them to play together, and maintain a subscription. Often players recruit themselves on a second account simply to obtain the Recruit A Friend rewards. This program has been in place for World of Warcraft for many years, originally being implemented in The Burning Crusade, and has been redesigned several times over the years to both improve the Recruit A Friend program, and include new rewards.
The Recruit A Friend program is a Retail World of Warcraft system, therefore the rewards and benefits will be unavailable in Classic. That said, it is still possible to recruit a 'New or Returning Player' account of someone that is wanting to play Classic, and receive the rewards on Retail, as both games share a subscription and game time.
If you have an active Friend on the previous Recruit A Friend reward track, you will continue to earn the previous track's rewards as long as your Friend's subscription is current. If your Friend's subscription lapses for at least a month, and then they renew, you will begin collecting rewards on the new track. This means you can finish out collecting cosmetic rewards for the track you are on, then lapse the Friend account for a month, and then renew to start collecting the new rewards.
The Explorer RAF Track is rolling over to the new Goblin Engineering Track on March 21st, 2023
Recruit A Friend Information for Dragonflight
The Recruit A Friend program is a referral system for World of Warcraft, in which the 'Veteran' account recruits a 'New or Returning Player' account to either join, or come back to World of Warcraft.
In this guide, the two accounts will be referred to as:
The
'Veteran'
account - The account referring the other player. This account is one that often will already be playing the game, and seeking the rewards that come from referring. This account will receive both benefits and rewards.
The
'New and Returning Player'
account - This account is the account receiving this referral. This World of Warcraft account must be less than seven days old, or not have had an active subscription or game time added for 24 months. This account will also receive the benefits, but not any of the rewards.
Recruit A Friend Features for Dragonflight
Rewards for 'Veteran' accounts
- including several months of game time and cosmetic items
A interface to recruit friends
- there are an in-game link and interface to invite your friends to join you, meaning you can invite them directly from the game.
Link up to 10 friends to your account
- Up to four friends per month can use your invite to be linked to your account, with a maximum of 10 total linked friends. You can generate a new invite monthly. Each player who purchases game time will count towards obtaining your overall rewards, adding up over time.
Ongoing game time rewards
- Once you earn all of the cosmetic rewards at 6 months, you will receive a free month for every three months of game time your recruited friend purchases, up to 12 months per recruit.
Recruited players don't need to be completely new
- players who have not had an active subscription or game time for 2 years and over can be recruited and linked to your account.
Rewards for playing with friends
- There are goals you can work towards with your recruited friends, rewarding items such as
and
.
Friend-to-Friend Summoning
- This spell allows you to teleport to each other, while partied. This spell has a 30 minute cooldown.
Party Sync feature
- this feature allows you to level with your friends more easily. When activated, everyone in the party becomes synced to the same quest state and phase, regardless of level. You also have access to a “replay quest” feature that allows players who’ve already completed certain quests to replay them with their friends for appropriate rewards once per day.
How to Recruit A Friend in Dragonflight
The Recruit A Friend system lets you generate a custom link in-game that you can send to your friends. This link will help you and your recruit connect in-game, and you’ll be able to see if they’ve purchased game time, which will lead to rewards for you!
To recruit a friend, simply send them the code generated from the in game social tab (defaulted to the 'o' key).
All that you friend needs to do is use the link to purchase the game. Your faction and realm will be included in the information, so they can easily make a character on the same server as you.
Recruiting Yourself for Every Recruit A Friend Reward in Dragonflight
Yes, you can benefit from the Recruit A Friend system by opening a second (or more) account for yourself. You can actually receive all of the rewards quickly by by opening multiple accounts. Click below for more information on how to do this.
What You'll Need:
Your main account - This is your main World of Warcraft account, the one you always play on.
Two new emails (to make two new Blizzard accounts)
Money! If you are buying all 12 months at once, this will cost you $180.00 (if you are American). Subscription rates will depend on your country, and you will need to buy 12 months worth to get all rewards.
Generating an Invite Link
To generate an invite link, simply go to your social tab (default hotkey "o") and go to the Recruit A Friend tab. If you have an active subscription, you can press a button in the bottom left hand corner that says "Recruitment". Click this and you have the option to generate an invite code.
Earning All Rewards - Step by Step
Step 1. Log in to your main account.
Log in to your main Blizzard account and World of Warcraft account. Log in to the Blizzard account on the website and your World of Warcraft account in game.
On your Blizzard account, on the webpage, create 2 new starter accounts. To do this, click your account name, then Account Settings.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and select 'Create a Starter Account'. Add two new accounts to your main Blizzard account.
Step 2. On your main game, generate an invite link.
Copy this link and open it in your browser. You will now get a welcome screen, where you can accept this invitation. Accept it on one of your two new accounts under your main battle.net. Repeat this step again, for your other account.
Step 4. Add game time to both recruited accounts.
Add game time to both accounts. Do this from your Blizzard account settings page.
Ensure you are adding game time to your two new accounts, and ONLY selecting ONE MONTH. Ensure to cancel your subscription straight away.
Step 5. Log in and out on your main account.
Log in and out of your main World of Warcraft account, in game. This step is not necessary, but it is good to make sure everything working. It may take a few minutes to go into effect, but if successful you will have two rewards. You can claim these now if you'd like, but it doesn't really matter. I would personally wait until these rewards show before proceeding with any of the next steps.
Step 6. Recruiting the rest of the accounts
Now you have three active accounts on your main battle.net. Your main account, and two new recruit a friend accounts. The reason we are doing this is to get 12 invite links to have 12 accounts linked to our main Blizzard account. This gets through the restrictions of only 4 invites per month, and 10 total linked to one account.
Next, create two entirely new Blizzard accounts, with different emails. These will not be linked to your first account at all.
Step 7 - Add new accounts
On your first new Blizzard account, add the maximum number of accounts like shown in Step 1, which is 8.
Step 8. Recruit and subscribe on each of these accounts
Ensure to only purchase one month of subscription and to cancel each subscription as you go.
The exact steps are as follows:
Use your main World of Warcraft account 1 on Blizzard account 1 to recruit 2 accounts on Blizzard account 2.
Use World of Warcraft account 2 on Blizzard Account 1 to recruit 4 accounts on Blizzard account 2.
Use World of Warcraft account 3 on Blizzard Account 1 to recruit 2 more accounts on Blizzard account 2.
You should have 2 invites left now on World of Warcraft account 3 on Blizzard account 1. As we are at account cap on Blizzard account 2, we need to use Blizzard Account 3 for the final two recruits.
You should now be eligible for all rewards. These rewards may take some time to come through, anywhere up to a few hours. You can ensure that it has all gone through if you have no recruit links left, your bank statement says you've been charged, and there are game time on all accounts.
Congrats on all your rewards!

Hmmm.. I wonder if recruiting a friend who played during the FREE week Blizzard offered a few months ago for anyone will work. I mean people could play without purchasing the game at all during that event.

I have a reward selection available for a 3-month RaF from some time ago, so I'm being offered any of the "removed rewards" on the list but I keep holding off on it since none of the current rewards interest me personally.
Anyone know how it might work if I do not redeem it on one of those? Will I instead get the Dunetrekker camel when it finally switches over?

Recruit a Friend is not live yet, Blizzard have not given an exact date, only that it will be out in 8.2.5.
Blizzard have not? No no no class - taps desk - That would be Blizzard HAS...HAS not.

1. they also said something about 'daily chalenges for extra rewards' im curious what they meant by that
2. do we have any information on the topic of 'for every 2 levels your recruited friend gets he can give you a level' did it get removed or is that still a thing?

I'm all for new rewards (although RAF is always annoyingly timed so that I won't get to use it) but I liked it better that you could choose what rewards you get. Even with this gated system, they could have left the old rewards and you could choose that or a free month, for example.

I was talking to Blizzard support and you CANNOT get all rewards up front like this post mentions. The agent stated,
"Yep, just confirmed that post is wrong. Looks like it was initially written before they had any info and seemed to reference the older system. It currently works as awarding said rewards/points on a monthly basis. So you can't just unlock it all today and run with it. It would be unlocked over time."
I was also sent their
FAQ
EDIT: This guide was corrected. However, I'll still post the FAQ down below.
The World of Warcraft Website says:
Q: When do I receive rewards?
A: You’ll receive your first reward when your friend adds at least 30 days of game time to their account. If your friend adds more than 30 days of game time
(for example, by purchasing a 3- or 6-month recurring subscription), rewards beyond the first will be granted at a rate of one per month, based on the date your recruit added game time to their account
. Note that it may take up to 72 hours to process rewards. In some regions, the processing time may take up to eight days. See the Support Article for more information.

Please note that one of the high rated comments on this post is misleading - it is completely possible to obtain all rewards from Recruit a Friend at once, like i stated in my guide.
Simply purchase the game time over multiple accounts of one month game time. Use the new accounts links to send out more links to more accounts, bypassing the 4 per month wait.

this part of the guide

I don't see what's wrong with this method, if you can spare the money, why not?
Personally it's not for me.
All those complaining about it need to remember that WoW is not a necessity, it's a luxury. Anyone playing is throwing money away for fun (Unless you play that much you get to play for free).

does this mean that if you recruit 3 friends, that you have free gametime after the 12months till 1 of them stops playing?
You get 1 month free gametime every 3 months so. Or do they need a buy a 3-months sub for it?

After a few back and forths with Customer Service, I for one feel highly undervalued as someone with multiple accounts. I already play on two accounts and was going to RAF a third, but after the chat, I'm not. I was told by CS to make a post on the forum (and will, but posting here as WowHead is better ran than the forum, imho.
Blizzard is willing to take our money for pre-orders and give us immediately something - a mount, pet, new outfit whatever, but the RAF program they basically are saying give us six months sub and we'll dole out your rewards like we are children? If we are paying upfront a sub for six months, we should get the rewards for that imho.
I was told by one CS that the RAF wasn't for referring our own accounts, as they want it for 'fresh' ones basically. So I guess our dirty multi-account money isn't as good? That's pretty much how I feel. All the games I play, I generally sub at six months to one year intervals and Blizzard is the only one that basically wants it all up front and will reward me monthly. Or they're encouraging us to do some hack/work around to get it done? That's really a bad business decision.
Well money is what Blizzard understands, so voting with my wallet and NOT paying for that extra account, likely going to cancel the second one as well when the sub runs out - they don't want my money, might as well go spend it where I am treated like a valued customer. There are plenty of pixelated things to buy, as well as games to try. So that $150+/- will NOT be for the current RAF in Blizzard.
Thanks again Blizzard for treating your current PAYING members so very very well.......

Confirmed that it still works in April 2020.
I managed to do it with only 2 email addresses.
I panicked with the last remaining 4 accounts on my second email address though since I didn't use the 'Recruitment' link before I added the monthly subscriptions.
Even wrote a ticket in-game with Customer Support to try and plead with them to get it corrected.
Anyhow, I managed to by-pass that mistake by using the 'Recruitment' link and using it on the last remaining accounts (even after I've added the monthly subs on my second email).
Screenshot below of my 12 rewards:
https://imgur.com/a/sRev5cx
Edit: I should mention that I did all of the above in less than 2 hours.
To receive the all the rewards, you have to ensure that you have at least 3 'Recruitment' links. Also, remember to cancel your monthly subs immediately for the 11 accounts you won't be using.

(The New) Recruit a Friend explained in simpler terms...
I've been playing WoW since WotLK (2008) and have gotten every recruit a friend reward from back then till the new system took over in BfA... I would always just "recruit myself" by creating an extra account and recruiting it while throwing some money on it, and bingo-bango, new RaF mount instantly at time of purchase.
This new RaF system introduced in 8.2.5 of BfA is a completely different animal and even to a veteran WoW player can be a bit confusing on how it actually works, so here goes a simpler breakdown if you're still trying to figure it out:
In a nutshell, each account tied to your WoW account with the new RaF rewards ONE prize per month of active subscription... paying in advance will still only reward one prize per month over the course of a full year... the only way to get all 12 prizes instantly is to have 12 RaF "friends" linked to your account and have all 12 of them buy one month of game time.
The catch, is you can only invite 4 people per month per account, so the workaround in the WoWHead article is basically have three of your own accounts each invite 4 other "friends" (3x4=12). It's important to note, the 2nd and 3rd accounts must be made on YOUR main account (wow1, wow2, wow3) to bypass the 4 invites per month limitation.
Question: "Can I just create a 2nd account, buy 12 months of game time (two 6-month blocks of gametime from the Blizz store) and get all 12 rewards instantly?"
Answer: No... even though you paid for all 12 months in advance (not a subscription, actual game time) you
will
receive all 12 rewards from this 2nd account, but only at the rate of one reward a month over the next year... this is the simplest way of doing it, but takes by far the longest to get your rewards.
Question: "I can't figure out the workaround, I don't want to make 12 different accounts, but I sure don't want to wait 12 months to get all my prizes, is there another option?"
Answer: Yes, you won't get everything up front, but you will get everything much quicker than a year. Let me be clear, the ONLY way to get all 12 prizes up front at once is to do the workaround and have 12 different accounts linked to your main account, buy one month each of game time each. However, if you can't/don't want to do that, there's a half-measure you can do that's simpler, straight forward, and will get you all 12 prizes in two months, with 4 of the prizes (including the 1st mount) being an immediate reward...
Just create four new e-mails, invite all four with the normal four invite per/month system, go to those four e-mails, create new Blizzard WoW accounts (I created Raf1, Raf2, Raf3 & Raf4 to make it obvious), verify the e-mails, log into each one (as a trial) and then log into your main account and verify all four are indeed linked to your account (hit the "O" key in-game to bring up your "Friends List", and click on the RaF tab)... once you have verified all four are working and linked to your account, simply log into each of the four new RaF accounts, go to the store and
buy each one a 3-month block of game time
(not a subscription). With this method, you'll get four prizes instantly (including a pet and mount) as each recruit gives one prize per month (you recruited four, you get four)... a month later, you'll get another four prizes (5 through 8) and two months later you'll get the final four prizes (9 through 12).
You don't have to do anything else after doing the initial setup, because you paid for four 3-month blocks of game time... this will all just happen automatically and you don't have to "cancel" any subscriptions since you didn't subscribe any of the accounts, you just bought some game time. FYI, doing this method, all 12 prizes will cost you $168, as a 3-month block of game time is $42 on the Blizzard store (x4 of course). Do note, four of the twelve prizes are a month of game time added to your own account, so that's kinda like a $60 refund on your $168 investment. Is it worth it? That's not for me to judge, the value of your own money is your call, not anyone else's.
Question:
Where/how do I get my RaF prizes/rewards?
Answer: You need to pull up your "Friends List" by hitting the "O" key in-game and click on the Recruit A Friend tab... this will tell you how many prizes you've earned and give you a click tab to claim them. This is where/how you claim all your prizes, including pets and mounts.
I hope this post clarifies any confusion over the overly-complicated new RaF system... frankly, I preferred the old system myself, but Blizz is just being Blizz with this new system.

I don't know if anyone has encountered this yet, but I just did. I had an inactive account as a Veteran player. Back in July of 2019 they gave a free month promotion of 30 days game time. THIS Directly affects your RAF if you are returning! I had to wait until after the 15th of October 2020 for my RAF to kick in.
Blizzard probably didn't tell everyone that the free month promotion would/could count against your RAF. In my case I did NOT use the free game time, had I used it, I would NOT be eligible as a RAF for another year. But Corporate didn't tell us that of course.

WARNING:
https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/264950
"We have received multiple reports that players who own this set are seeing the appearance disappearing from the appearances collection, as well as from any items it is currently transmogged to. The set automatically re-appears in the Wardrobe after some time, but it can disappear again. We currently do not have a workaround that we can provide.
We apologize for any inconvenience while our developers work as quickly as possible to resolve the issue."
So if you are trying to do the 12 months for the transmog I would recommend you avoid it, you just randomly lose it and your armor will reset to its default appearance, it just happened to me.

I personally used it to just recruit a second WoW account for myself (within the same Battle.net account) and paid the 6 months rate on that second account. For those who are still a bit confused and want the easiest and less expensive solution, all this means it is that the recruit rewards are awarded slowly, one month at a time, while that second account remains active with game time.
It'll take a 9 month wait for your Jungle Hopper.
I still think this is the best method, since I don't mind a bit of a wait for the guaranteed collectible. I also get to actually use that second account for the duration of its game time with just an alt-tab between the two windows instead of doing any awkward or expensive multiboxing. This means the money spent on multiple accounts is actually put to use, instead of being spent for the sole purpose of getting the RaF rewards.
For those new to the idea of multiple accounts, note that multiple wow accounts within your one battle.net account
share collections
. If your second account gets a mount, your main account has it instantly in the collection too. You can use your second wow account to do your spawn camping (once a character is high enough level, e.g. lvl 35+ for the Sha of Anger mount drop), or use your new account to do the time consuming legion class mount questlines on a new character while you camp spawns on your main account that already has lots of alts to switch between. Bear in mind that the terms of service still prevent you from sharing your extra WoW accounts with other people, so it needs to actually be you using them.
For better performance, instead of alt-tabbing, if you have a spare old computer you can run one of your WoW accounts on that to use for camping the rare spawns on low graphics, while you continue playing as normal on your main computer. Logging in to the battle.net launcher kicks you into 'offline' status in any other place your launcher is logged in, so you'll just need to wait a few seconds for WoW to reach the character selection screen until you can then click 'go online' and launch the game in a second location. Double check each launcher has the correct 'WoW Account' name in the drop down box (immediately above the Play button) before you launch.

but overall 3/10, because it's not there 60% of the time.

Am I missing an important information here?
Why do you have to create so many new Accounts for this?
Can't you just recruit ONE new account and book in the 12-months sub?
(Either by the 12-Sub-Offer or 6x 60Days Gamecard)
OR
Can't you just recruit TWO new accounts and book in the 6-months sub on both?
This would be way easier and cheaper.
12-month-sub is currently at 130€ (or 65€ for a 6-month)
Why do you need 12 Accounts for this?
What am I missing?
If someone would please help me out on this :D

If you have an active Friend on the previous Recruit A Friend reward track, you will continue to earn the previous track's rewards as long as your Friend's subscription is current.
I wonder if this affects players who already received a reward. For instance: I recruited a friend earlier today, does this mean that I'll be on the previous reward track or the newer one when it launches on the 21st of March?
Solved by reading WoW's original article:
Any recruitments made after March 21 will be assigned to the new rewards track; Recruiters are able to gain rewards from both tracks simultaneously.

So pardon me for asking, other MMO RAF systems reward new player as well as veteran. What do newbies get out of this? At a point you'd get gametime, and other things, now it seems like this is just particularly directed at veterans. (besides the really useless summoning feature/party sync/etc)
Thank you in advance for the replies.
