Genn Greymane is the King of Gilneas, and one of the original founders of the Alliance of Lordaeron. Greymane's stubborn demeanor has guided Greymane over the years as a leader, from his isolation from the rest of Lordaeron, to being one of the bearers of the Curse of the Worgen, and the loss of Gilneas to the Horde.
Humbled by the loss of his capital and his son, Liam Greymane, Greymane is one of the most loyal supporters of the Alliance, adding the ferocity of the Gilnean humans turned Worgen to its ranks. Greymane dreams of revenge against the current Warchief of the Horde, Sylvanas Windrunner, due to the many losses she has caused him through his life, and uses this feral motivation to carry on even as an old nobleman and fighter.
Early Life
Genn Greymane is the son of King Archibald Greymane, the king responsible for leading Gilneas to the industrial age. Archibald also taught Genn from a very short age to not rely on others, a characteristic Genn carried with him through his entire life. After Archibald's death, Genn became the King of Gilneas, and followed his father's rule for much of it. Greymane got married to a noble named Mia, falling in love with her during a nobles dinner, and had two children with her: Liam and Tess.
Before World of Warcraft
Greymane's story is a long one, but most of it happened before World of Warcraft came to life.
The Alliance of Lordaeron
After the fall of Stormwind at the hands of the orcish Horde, Genn attended a meeting organized by King Terenas Menethil II to talk about the fall of Stormwind and the threat of the Orcish Horde. After listening to the plight of the King of Stormwind, Anduin Lothar, Greymane dismissed Lothar's plight, thinking that the Gilnean Army could withstand any threats to their kingdom. While most of the other human leaders were positive to the idea of joining an Alliance, Greymane was difficult about it.
After the dinner with the leaders of all human nations, Greymane discussed the situation with the other Gilnean nobles he brought with him to the dinner, Baron Ashbury, Lord Vincent Godfrey and Lord Darius Crowley. Darius was the most positive about the exchange, believing that this would strengthen the bond of Gilneas with the rest of the human nations. Greymane, however, dismissed Darius' exchange, as he thought the young noble was too idealistic. Godfrey agreed with Crowley, but advised more caution - Stay in the good graces of the other human nations for commercial benefits but only send a small portion of the Gilnean army. Ashbury agreed with Godfrey, and Greymane said he would consider that stance.
Greymane was one of the voters in favor of joining the Alliance of Lordaeron. Although Gilneas would offer token support at best, Greymane himself would serve in the field for the Alliance.
After the nation of Alterac betrayed the Alliance of Lordaeron thanks to the actions of Aiden Perenolde, Greymane sought to take over Alterac for Gilneas, by supporting the claim of Perenolde's nephew, Isiden, to the throne of Alterac. During this time, Greymane was susceptible to the mind control tactics of Lord Daval Prestor (actually Deathwing in disguise), who also wanted to claim Alterac. After Prestor suddenly disappeared, Greymane continued pushing for Isiden.
Separation from the Alliance
After the Second War, Greymane reunited with the nobles of Gilneas, complaining about how Gilnean taxpayers were paying for the Orc internment camps in Hillsbrad Foothills, and the Alliance of Lordaeron had given Gilneas nothing but dead soldiers at that point. Greymane stated that he had plans of building a wall to separate Gilneas from the rest of the world.
It was suggested by Greymane by Lord Godfrey to build the wall by Lord Crowley's lands, effectively cutting Pyrewood Village and the Ambermill from the rest of Gilneas, as Crowley's lands were in the middle of mountains, making a pretty effective natural barrier. In response to that, Lord Crowley started a rebellion against Gilneas, which resulted in the splitting of the Gilnean people into loyalists and rebels. Greymane's loyalist forces won the civil war, throwing Lord Crowley in jail for treason and building the Greymane wall.
When Lordaeron fell to the Scourge, the wall kept Gilneas protected. Gilneas had not sent any help to the Alliance, and Greymane, in fact, saw this as confirmation that isolating Gilneas from the Alliance was the best thing he could have done for his people. However, Gilneas did not manage to go through their isolation unscathed.
The Scourge Invasion and the Worgen
During the Third War, the Scourge attempted to bring the Greymane wall down to invade Gilneas. The Gilnean army defended the wall with all of its might, but for every undead that fell, another one would quickly take its place. Greymane had secretly confided with Arugal, an Archmage of the Kirin Tor who was from Gilneas. Arugal had devised a wall to summon the feral Worgen from another dimension to use in the battle against the Scourge. Desperate to protect Gilneas, Greymane ordered Arugal to invoke the Worgen and send them against the Scourge.
However, the Worgen carried a curse within them - Any humans bitten by a Worgen would also turn into Worgen. The feral creatures spread their curse through the remaining humans of Silverpine Forest, the curse eventually making its way to Gilneas itself. In an effort to control the Worgen population, Greymane and a couple of his nobles would organize hunts against the feral creatures.
In one of those hunts, Greymane briefly separated himself from the other hunters, going against a lone Worgen, only for the creature to ambush Greymane, biting him in the shoulder. Greymane managed to kill the Worgen, but not before he himself was infected by the Worgen curse. Knowing that he would be killed on sight had the Gilneas nobles found out, Greymane entered a state of panic. His hunting jacket was not damaged by the Worgen bite, so he cleaned up the blood, stuffed his shoulder lining to not show any deformation, and came back to the Hunters. His deception was successful.
Greymane, Cursed
Gilneas was running through many issues during the Third War: The rebels led by Darius Crowley were rumored to be reforming, the Scourge was hitting the Greymane wall hard, and gruesome murders were happening all over Gilneas, the Gilnean people afraid to leave their own houses. Despite the problems Gilneas was suffering, though, Lord Vincent Godfrey only had eyes for the feral Worgen problem, wondering why Greymane was no longer joining them in the hunts, going to the point of wondering if Greymane had lost his military edge.
Godfrey wondered if he could become King of Gilneas to help with the Worgen problem, but Greymane believed that Godfrey's tactics would sow even more panic among the Gilneans. Additionally, if Godfrey ever found out about Greymane being cursed, he would rebel for sure.
Greymane would frequently hide within the observatory at Greymane Manor, where he would meet with a secret ally, the Night Elf Priestess Belysra, who helps Greymane control the curse and tells him stories of the Worgen curse. The priestess told Greymane that the Worgen released by Arugal were originally Night Elf Druids who fell to a corrupted druid form thousands of years ago, during the War of the Satyr. To contain these Druids, the Archdruid Malfurion Stormrage would order them to fall into an eternal slumber on the Emerald Dream.
Belysra talks to Greymane about the Worgen curse.
From the comic World of Warcraft: Curse of the Worgen, Issue #2
Belysra explained to Greymane that her priestess ritual was a palliative means to stop the Worgen curse from turning the cursed feral, allowing them to keep their minds intact while in Worgen form, but if the cursed held any kind of doubts or guilt, they would not be able to turn into humans once more. Greymane kept his curse hidden from everyone, even his beloved Mia, while Belysra kept him sane. Belysra would also aid one of Greymane's friends, the alchemist Krennan Aranas, to devise a potion that would help stop the transformation into a feral Worgen.
Aranas was successful with creating a potion, and that in combination with Belysra's rituals would help Greymane keep his Worgen form a secret, but the King of Gilneas had no idea how much longer he would be able to hide his condition.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
Genn Greymane made his first official participation in World of Warcraft during the Cataclysm, when the Gilnean Humans, able to transform into Worgen, became playable characters.
Evacuating Gilneas City
Greymane, his son Liam, and Lord Godfrey were responsible for leading the Gilnean defenses against the evergrowing threat of the feral Worgen, who were rampant to the point of directly attacking Gilneas City (
戒严!
). Seeing how many Worgen were threatening the city, Greymane decided it was time to put his differences aside with Lord Darius Crowley, and freed the former rebel from his prison (
监狱的屋顶
). After releasing Crowley, he mentions a hidden artillery stash that could be used to help in the defense of Gilneas, but the adventurer is ambushed and bitten by a Worgen while gathering the arsenal (
叛军领主的军械库
).
During the chaos caused by the feral worgen, the now royal alchemist, Krennan Aranas, was captured by the Worgen (
救援克雷南·阿朗纳斯
). Once Aranas was rescued by the adventurer, Greymane gave the order to evacuate Gilneas City, as although they still had ammo to press on for a while longer, the Worgen numbers became too much to hope for them to be defeated. Crowley and his man made the decision to stay behind and serve as bait for the Worgen while the Gilneans evacuated (
牺牲
), a decision that infuriated Crowley's daughter, Lorna Crowley, who thought this was all planned by Greymane. The Gilneans lived in relative peace in Duskhaven for a time (
破釜沉舟
).

Refuge in Duskhaven
Gilneas was seriously affected by the Cataclysm. The barrier reefs that prevented the zone from having sea access were shattered, and parts of the Greymane Wall were exposed thanks to Deathwing's passage. Both these events allowed the Forsaken to invade Gilneas and take the city from the control of the feral Worgen.
Since their refuge in Duskhaven, Greymane and Krennan Aranas have been working on a potion to, if not cure, at least mitigate the effects of the Worgen curse. To test the potion, Greymane and his hunters were subduing feral Worgen and using them as experiments. Lord Godfrey would constantly object to the tests, affirming that feral Worgen were beyond saving and they all deserved to be shot, but Greymane stopped him as Aranas' potion worked on at least one Worgen, that managed to retain control of their minds even after being turned into Worgen (
人性的最后希望
).
After the Forsaken reached Duskhaven, Greymane instructed Aranas to administer the potion to as many feral Worgen as he could, wanting their forces to be used against the Forsaken. During the battle against the Forsaken, a massive explosion was heard. This was no Forsaken armaments - Gilneas was being sent underwater due to the events of the Shattering (

,

).
The Worgen Curse, Tamed
As Duskhaven was collapsing, the Gilnean forces continued evacuating further inland in Gilneas, first
前往格雷迈恩庄园
, and then toward the abandoned city of
风谷村
. However, Stormglen, originally a fishing town, was abandoned and overrun by massive spiders (
防控病虫害
). Trying to find out what happened to Stormglen, adventurers venture into
黑瘴林
, a great marsh north of Stormglen. While in the Blackwald, the night elf priestess Belysra is found once more, and she leads players to Tal'doren, the home of the Worgen who managed to control their curse. Darius Crowley, now fully transformed into a Worgen, is among the survivors in Tal'doren (
塔多伦,野性的家园
).
In Tal'doren, it is discovered that a ritual was devised with the help of the Scythe of Elune, the artifact that first brought the Worgen Azeroth, that allows cursed Worgen to not only retain their minds, but switch between Human and Worgen forms at will. Greymane traveled to Tal'doren and addressed Crowley as an equal, finally revealing he too had the Worgen curse. Greymane and Crowley finally made up, Crowley pledging his forces against the Forsaken forces (
非人非兽
).
Lorna Crowley yells: Father!
Lord Darius Crowley yells: Lorna!
Lord Godfrey says: Crowley! You and your elven allies are hereby ordered to serve along the king's army. Cursed or not, you are still bound by Gilnean law!
---
Lord Darius Crowley yells: Does this toad speak for you, Genn? Do you come to our dwelling as a friend? Or do you come as a tyrant?
King Genn Greymane says: No, old friend. I've come to you as an equal.
Genn transforms into a Worgen.
Lord Godfrey yells: Impossible!
Lord Darius Crowley says: Aye, Genn. It is not law that binds us. It is something far stronger. My men are ready to give their lives under your command.
King Genn Greymane says: It is decided, then. We will unite all Gilneans and drive the Forsaken from our lands.
The Battle for Gilneas City
Having learned of Greymane's Worgen curse, Lord Godfrey, who was noted to have a seething hatred against all things Worgen, conspires with Baron Ashbury to betray Greymane and turn Gilneas over to the Forsaken. Once the ruse was discovered, Baron Ashbury is killed, and Godfrey kills himself by jumping off a cliff, preferring to be turned into a Forsaken over becoming a Worgen (
风暴海崖的背叛
).
After these events, Greymane decided it was time to let go of his fears and announce that the Worgen curse was part of Gilneas now, being received with adoration by his people.
Greymane announces that he carries the Worgen Curse, being acclaimed by his people.
From the comic World of Warcraft: Curse of the Worgen, Issue #5.
Greymane participated as part of the frontlines, once more, during
吉尔尼斯城保卫战
, trying to drive the Forsaken out of the Gilnean capital. During the battle, the leader of the Forsaken, Lady Sylvanas Windrunner, was cornered by the Gilnean forces led by Liam and Genn. Sylvanas then fired a poisonous arrow that was meant for Genn, but Liam took the arrow. With the confusion caused by Liam being shot, Sylvanas escaped, while Liam died at the arms of Genn.
Liam and Genn had just mended their stranded relationship, thanks to Genn being honest with the Worgen curse, and Sylvanas ruined Genn's future. This made Greymane nurture a savage, almost feral rage against the Forsaken, one that would accompany many of his actions in the future.

A New Beginning in Darnassus
The Gilnean people were offered refuge within the Alliance in Darnassus, in a new section known as
风嚎橡树
. As the Gilneas refuges settled there, they were greeted by Malfurion Stormrage and Tyrande Whisperwind, who offer as much help as they can to the Gilnean population, although they also ask to, if possible, repay the favor in Gilneas by sending adventurers to Darkshore to help with the problems caused by the Cataclysm. Greymane knows just who to send!
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Good evening.
Gwen Armstead says: Priestess Tyrande! We did not expect you. Good evening.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: I hope my people have been welcoming to you. These are burdened times, so I fear much may be competing with their good graces.
Genn Greymane says: Not at all, priestess. We are very grateful for all that you've offered us here.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: When we spoke previously, you offered to repay the favor. I may have to act on that sooner than I would have liked.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: There is trouble at Lor'danel, a village of ours across the waters from Rut'theran.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: If any of your people can be spared, I fear war encroaching upon us in Kalimdor.
Genn Greymane says: I know the perfect people for such a task. I will send them immediately, priestess.
Malfurion Stormrage says: Thank you, Genn. I am glad to see such poise and composure from your people. Perhaps your curse does not define you afterall.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: We will take our leave. Again, welcome to all of you.
Wolfheart
Although Darnassus had offered shelter to Greymane and the people of Gilneas, for Gilneas to officially become part of the Alliance, all other Alliance leaders had to agree to it. When Greymane introduced himself at the dinner with the other Alliance leaders, he admitted that walling off Gilneas from the rest of the world was a mistake, and he thanked the Alliance for giving Gilneas a second chance.
The banquet was going well until King Varian Wrynn arrived. As Genn was telling stories of Gilnean conquests, Varian openly mocked Genn, claiming that him and the people of Gilneas were pathetic and weak. Despite the insults, Genn remained his calm, claiming that they were changed, and finally prepared to become great allies. Varian, however, still showed bitterness towards Gilneas not helping the Alliance at their time of need in the Third War, absolving himself of any association with Gilneas. However, Greymane noticed the presence of Goldrinn within Varian, which made him think there was still hope for Gilneas to be accepted within the Alliance.
During the dinner, Greymane explained the might of the Gilnean army, as well as the superior features of the Worgen form, including immunity to being raised as Forsaken. As most Alliance leaders showed support for Gilneas, Varian announced that he could never trust Gilneas again, after what happened in the Third War, the announcement ruining the chances for Greymane, who left the summit angry.
Genn and Varian had another argument not long after, when Malfurion lured Varian into the Worgen's hunting grounds. They both claimed to be the better hunter, and Malfurion decided to settle the score with a hunting challenge. While both Varian and Greymane were chasing a wild boar, they attracted the attention of a giant bear, who attacked one of Greymane's servants. Greymane and Varian allied themselves for a short while to save the Gilnean, with Varian landing the killing blow on the bear. Although Genn and his Worgen commended Varian on his skills, Varian quickly snuck off to the woods alone.
Varian decided to go to the woods to self-reflect, and approached Greymane a while after, as the Gilnean King was preparing to go back to Darnassus. Varian asked Greymane for help on how to better control his fury, and Greymane led him to the Howling Oak in Darnassus, showing him the ancient ritual used by Worgens to control their inner rage. Greymane warned Varian that not many survived the ritual and lost themselves to their feral nature, but Varian decided to try the ritual anyway.
The Worgen ritual usually requires the Worgen to drink from the waters of the Wells of Balance, Fury and Tranquility one at a time, but for Varian, it was recommended to drink the waters of all three wells at the same time, much to Greymane's surprise. Greymane then guided Varian through his most important memories, and the choices that led Varian to the current moment in his life. After Varian successfully completed the Worgen ritual and mastered his fury, he woke up with the howling of Goldrinn, the wild god's aura enveloping Varian as Greymane and the Worgen watched him in awe.
After waking up, Varian told Greymane to gather his best soldiers, as it was time for them to bring the fight against Garrosh Hellscream's forces in Ashenvale. The Alliance forces were mobilized through the zone, and the Worgen forces were instrumental in defeating Garrosh's forces, which included some magnataur that were captured in Northrend. Thanks to Varian's leadership and Greymane's brute force, they were able to drive out the invading the Horde forces.
Varian was hailed as the Hero of Ashenvale and Goldrinn's champion. A time afterward, Varian called for a second meeting of the Alliance leadership - This time, to serve as the official introduction of Gilneas and the Worgen to the Alliance. During the meeting, Varian spoke of the many threats that have risen over the years, and how they challenged the peace the Alliance fought so much to obtain. With the Ashenvale attack, the Horde had threatened the Alliance more than ever, and now they had to group up and match the Horde's fury and survive in the Azeroth post-Cataclysm.
With the Worgen within the Alliance, Varian believed that the Alliance would prevail, while still upholding the honor it always fought so hard for.
Mists of Pandaria
Greymane's participation was diminished during Mists of Pandaria, but as one of the leaders of the Alliance, he was always present when called.
During the Alliance meeting about what do with the newfound power of the Sha, Greymane was one of the members that stood in awe when a Sha residue manifested, but we did not hear his opinion on whether he wanted to use the powers of the Sha or not. Varian Wrynn, counseled by his son, Anduin, eventually destroyed the manifestation, vowing to not follow the same example as the Horde (
联盟之心
).
Legion
Greymane starts seeing more relevancy during Legion, having his very own subplot in one of the questing zones, where he managed to obtain some revenge against Sylvanas.
The Battle for the Broken Shore
Greymane participated in
破碎海滩之战
, leading a team of Gilnean guards. As part of Varian's team, he faced Gul'dan within the Tomb of Sargeras. As Gul'dan invoked a massive army of demons, Varian told Greymane to go to Sylvanas and, with the help of an Alliance gunship, clear the skies. But before Greymane could follow the order, Sylvanas tooted a War Horn, and told the Horde to retreat, abandoning the Alliance and leaving Greymane beyond livid.
Without the Horde support, Greymane urged Varian for the Alliance to retreat as well, and the High King ordered the soldiers to board the airship. However, as the airship leaves the scene, Gul'dan invokes an immense Fel Reaver, which manages to grab the airship and drop many Alliance soldiers to their deaths. As Varian hangs on to the ship, Greymane, now back to human form, attempts to save Varian. But Varian decides to instead give Greymane a letter addressed to Anduin, and falls to the ground. Varian manages a heroic last stand, killing several demons, but is ultimately finished off by Gul'dan, being shattered by the warlock. Genn screamed at the horrific execution.
After the Battle ended, Genn and Jaina held the Horde responsible for the death of King Varian, and swore revenge against them. Greymane could not stand to attend Varian's funeral, instead asking for an adventurer to bring the letter to Anduin. Greymane stated that he needed to get revenge against the Horde at all costs (
陨落的雄狮
).
The Clash Against Nathanos
Greymane quickly prepared to depart to Stormheim, on a mission by Anduin Wrynn to secure one of the five pillars of creation, the Aegis of Aggramar. Although the mission was officially to search for the Aegis, Greymane was also determined to scout and, if possible, end any Horde activity he saw within Stormheim (
巡视
). After tracking Horde activity, the airship, none other than the Skyfire, proceeded to go to two of the Horde boats by Stormheim, under suspicion that one of them was boarded by Sylvanas.
Although the Alliance forces managed to infiltrate the Forsaken ships and kill their captains, a team led by Nathanos Blightcaller was already on their way to sabotage the Skyfire. Greymane ended up in a face-off against Nathanos, the Forsaken goading Greymane into going into Worgen form. As Greymane started getting the upper hand over Nathanos, the battle ended unexpectedly as the Forsaken sabotaging managed to make the Skyfire crash (
格雷迈恩的尝试
).
The Skyfire was destroyed, but the crew managed to evacuate and gather in the Skyfire Triage Camp to aid the survivors, while combating the Horde (
登陆!
). The wounded survivors were sent to the forward camp of Greywatch, where Greymane is overseeing both the operations to gather the Aegis of Aggramar, as well as all Horde activity within Stormheim (
信号增强
).
Revenge Against Sylvanas
While adventurers are looking for the Aegis of Aggramar, Greymane kept tracking Sylvanas and the Horde, eventually figuring out a potential location for Sylvanas (
信号增强
). As the adventurer stops the Horde forces from plaguing Greywatch, Lorna Crowley is sent to scout the Valkyra location of Skold-Ashil to see what Sylvanas is up to (
前往斯考德-艾希尔
).
Lorna eventually discovers that Sylvanas plans to subjugate the titan watcher Eyir, and use her to create more Val'kyr to raise the Forsaken and secure her immortality. After learning of Lorna's intelligence and a failed assault against the Horde settlement of Dreadwake's Landing, Greymane personally goes to the Vault of Eyir to confront Sylvanas (
成为晋升者
).
At the Vault, Sylvanas has Eyir subdued thanks to the Soulcage, a magical lantern given to the Banshee Queen by Helya. As Sylvanas tortures the watcher, Greymane watches from the shadows, telling her that her quest for immortality left her vulnerable. Greymane then ambushed Sylvanas, declaring in a fit of rage that he was there to avenge Varian, Gilneas and his son Liam. After some struggling, Sylvanas strikes Greymane with a poisoned arrow and knocks him outside the altar, but failed to notice Greymane grabbed the Soulcage.
As Sylvanas desperately draws another arrow to hit Greymane, he destroys the Soulcage, freeing Eyir. Sylvanas watched in shock as Eyir made her leave from the vault, and Greymane leaves the vault. As he snaps the poisoned arrow from Sylvanas, he comments that Sylvanas had taken his son's future, and now, he had taken hers (
扼杀在摇篮
). Greymane was treated by the soldiers of Greywatch, and made a full recovery.
The Lost Compass
Long before Broken Shore, Anduin gifted Varian a compass for Father's Day. Varian kept the compass with him until the Battle for the Broken Shore, where he lost the compass during the attack by the Burning Legion. As the airship used by the Alliance fell to the water, Varian accidentally dropped the compass to the bottom of the sea while he was drowning.
As an Alliance adventurer explored the Broken Shore, they noticed a strange glitter on the bottom of the sea, and swam to the compass. Although it no longer worked, the compass had a clear portrait of King Anduin Wrynn. The adventurer, believed the compass must have been important, delivered it to Anduin, who was shocked at the discovery and thanked the adventurer (
重拾记忆
).
Sometime later, Greymane summoned the adventurer to Stormwind Keep, claiming Anduin was not the same since he received the compass, becoming very distracted at his duties (
应召前来
). After discovering that Anduin was praying at the Cathedral of Light, Greymane sends the adventurer to get Anduin back to his duties (
安慰国王
). After returning to the Keep, Anduin saw Velen and Greymane talking about him - Velen had seen in a vision that Anduin was destined to be a great leader, while Greymane did not have the mettle to succeed at being a leader, seeing how easily the compass broke his spirit (
王国之心
).
At the Broken Shore, Greymane showed Velen the site of Wrynnfall, where Varian died, with Velen commenting that Anduin did not know the Legion as they did. Anduin arrives at the scene, to the shock of both Velen and Greymane. Greymane tells Anduin that he did not need to see the site, while Anduin revealed his fear as the new High King of the Alliance. Anduin finds Varian's sword, Shalamayne, and falls to his knees, wondering what to do. Greymane falls to his knees next to Anduin, telling him that Varian's heroic actions were a challenge to the entire Alliance, to never let fear prevail, even at the gates of hell. With Genn's encouraging words and a vision of Varian, Shalamayne glimmered gold in Anduin's hands, the blade accepting Anduin as its master (
王者之路
).
The Wound in Silithus
Sargeras was defeated during the Argus campaign, but not before he gravely wounded Azeroth by stabbing Silithus with his massive sword. Despite all the losses during the campaign, Anduin gave a heartfelt speech talking about hope to all of the Alliance when announcing their victory. Greymane is watching the speech from the back of the crowd, proud of how much Anduin had grown as a king. As Anduin continues his speech, Master Mathias Shaw approaches Greymane, urging to talk to Anduin as soon as possible. Anduin notices them and quickly ends the speech.
Away from the Alliance crowd, Anduin, Greymane and Shaw meet. Shaw announces that Goblins have a much-increased activity in Silithus since the sword destroyed the zone, mining an unknown substance. Anduin and Greymane affirmed that although they did not know what the substance was, the Horde knew, and they had to find out what was it.
Before the Storm
Greymane has heavy participation in the Before the Storm book, the book preceding the events of Battle for Azeroth.
The Alliance Meeting
After discovering that the unknown substance was, in fact, Azerite, Anduin called for a meeting of all Alliance leaders to discuss the potential of such a substance. During the meeting, a demonstration of the power of Azerite was done, and Greymane was one of the leaders that were left in awe with the power of such a substance. Anduin is reluctant to use Azerite, but Greymane reminded him that the Horde, and especially Sylvanas, would use Azerite in a destructive way, and thus the Alliance should think about doing the same.
When Anduin announced his plans to use this peacetime to travel to the other Alliance kingdoms to thank them for their continued support and enlist their help with Azerite, Greymane reminded him that he is still the King of Stormwind, and his people needed him there as well, also adding that Gilneas would need no royal visit. Anduin rebutted with how his travel to the Broken Shore helped him grow as a leader, but Greymane stressed that his safety and presence is paramount to the stability of the kingdom, and him adventuring with no heir to the throne was dangerous. Even with all the arguments, Anduin still believed that himself going around to promote prosperity was the right thing to do.
Sometime later, Anduin reunited with Greymane and Prophet Velen during breakfast. Anduin announced to Genn that he wanted Greymane to act as Regent-King of Stormwind while Anduin was gone, as well as serve as his heir should something happen to the young king. Greymane was flattered and agreed to serve in Anduin's absence, although he also noted that he is an old man, and this would not cut it - Anduin needed to start thinking about creating an actual heir to the throne of Stormwind.
A Heir to Stormwind
Anduin went on a trip to Ironforge and the Netherlight Temple. After his return, Greymane had dinner with Anduin, and while filling some paperwork, Greymane once more brought the subject of an heir to the throne of Stormwind. Anduin tried to take the subject lightly, but Greymane reminded him that politics are serious, and Stormwind could be in a dire situation should the throne fall in the hands of the wrong person. Anduin agreed, remembering the Stonemasons riot that killed his mother, Tiffin, and Onyxia's machinations as Lady Katrana Prestor.
Genn recalled how the death of Liam Greymane left a void in his heart, but he had the love of the rest of his family, as well as his hatred for Sylvanas, to help him cope with that void. Though Liam was still dearly missed, Greymane has seen a lot of the good Liam represented within Anduin. Greymane wants to guide Anduin as he would guide Liam to the throne of Gilneas. Although Anduin was moved, he bluntly stated that Greymane could not replace his father.
Genn gave Anduin the same advice he would have given Liam: Life is too short and unpredictable, use that short time you have here to find a queen to bear him an heir. Genn went as far to suggest that, if Anduin had no one in mind, an arranged married could work, even offering the hand of his daughter, Tess Greymane. Anduin is aware he needs to eventually find himself a queen, but finds the idea of an arranged married terrible to say the best, and believes Tess would think the same.
Anduin promised he would revisit the subject later, and changed the subject to his meeting with Calia Menethil. Anduin talked about how impressed he was that the priest Conclave was able to bring Priests of all races together in their time of need. Greymane reminded Anduin that, although it was indeed admirable, to not turn the Netherlight Temple's efforts into naivety. Although the Horde was proven to create honorable and compassionate beings like Thrall and Baine Bloodhoof, the Forsaken were depraved abominations, incapable of the same feelings as live beings have.
When Anduin countered with the fact that the Conclave was led by a Forsaken, Archbishop Alonsus Faol, Greymane was infuriated how such a fate could happen to a hero of humanity like Faol, and questioned Anduin how he could possibly tolerate that. Anduin responded that he was shown by the Conclave that not all Forsaken were mindless Scourge, and although not all of them had good intentions, some people such as Faol are. Although Greymane wanted to walk out and not face that the Forsaken were also people, Anduin was sure of what he learned, and managed to make Greymane listen to his proposal.
The Diplomatic Proposal
Anduin wanted to use Alonsus Faol as a way to open negotiations and attempt to heal the rift between the Forsaken and the Alliance. Anduin thought that, if the Alliance managed a reunion between the Forsaken and their families in life, Sylvanas might be convinced to not consider the Alliance a threat, and that way, not use Azerite as a destructive weapon. Maybe if diplomacy worked with the Forsaken, the Alliance and the Horde could find common ground and heal Azeroth as one united faction.
Sometime after, Anduin helped Greymane with the funeral of one of his servants. After the funeral, Anduin announced his intention of setting up a meeting between the Forsaken and their loved ones in life. Greymane was joined by Sky Admiral Rogers (who had lost her family to the Horde when the Forsaken destroyed Southshore after the Cataclysm) that the Forsaken were monsters that were plotting to spread their curse to all humanity. Genn advised against the meeting for practical and political reasons and agreed with High Exarch Turalyon, who mentioned that anything going wrong during the meeting could lead to catastrophic consequences, if not all-out war.
Greymane accused Anduin of setting this meeting because he felt bad about Greymane's servant passing. Anduin said he was not completely wrong, but the High King's desire for peace, as well as the belief that Sylvanas would not endanger the Forsaken in a way that could start a war, was enough for the meeting to be a success. Anduin then commanded his advisors to support him in making the meeting happen.
Greymane and Calia Menethil helped interview potential candidates for the gathering, but Greymane would constantly remind the candidates to keep in mind that their loved ones were now Forsaken, and likely did terrible things in undeath. Greymane accused Alonsus Faol of manipulating Anduin, but Faol simply replied that his hatred came from fear - Fear of thinking that, maybe, if Greymane acknowledged Forsaken as people, Liam Greymane truly died for nothing.
Greymane was infuriated at the affirmation and almost attacked Alonsus Faol, but Turalyon stopped him, as he did not want violence in a sacred place like the Cathedral of Light. Faol tried to convince Greymane that his guilt and fury was not allowing him to understand something that would change his perceptions, instead, clinging to the sorrow caused by Liam's death to fuel him. Faol sympathized with Greymane's plight, but Greymane was astounded when asked if he would still hate the Forsaken if Faol had come to him with a Forsaken Liam.
Unable to face the truth that was right in front of him, Greymane howled and fled from the Cathedral.
The Meeting with the Forsaken
Greymane attended the gathering but stayed at Stromgarde Keep to help lead the Alliance forces, Anduin attempting to avoid any issues had Greymane and Sylvanas met. Though the meeting mostly went out well, Sylvanas eventually ordered the Forsaken to return to the Undercity. When some of the Forsaken participants were either hesitant, or outright refused to return, Anduin realized that Calia Menethil revealed herself as the true heir to the throne of Lordaeron, advising any Forsaken willing to desert that they would find sanctuary in Stromgarde Keep.
Sylvanas responded by sending her Dark Rangers to kill all Forsaken participants, Sylvanas herself killing Calia Menethil. Genn helped secure the Alliance participants, but Sylvanas did not attack any of them.
After the meeting, Anduin helped the Alliance participates give their Forsaken loved ones a proper burial, and was fully prepared to be chastised by Greymane, acknowledging he was directly responsible for the dead. Greymane, instead, comforted Anduin, telling the young king to not blame himself, as Sylvanas was the only one responsible for killing her people. Greymane admitted that the meeting helped him realize the Forsaken still had some humanity left in them, and maybe peace was possible between the Forsaken and the living.
Anduin acknowledged that Greymane was both right and wrong about Sylvanas, as he thought Sylvanas would be ruthless against the Alliance, not against her own people. Anduin lamented to Greymane that Sylvanas had played his intentions to twist the meeting to her advantage, and fully believed that peace could never be possible while Sylvanas held any position of power within the Forsaken or the Horde.
Battle for Azeroth
Greymane continues his increased activity in Battle for Azeroth, acting as one of the Alliance ambassadors in Kul Tiras.
War of the Thorns
As Anduin and Greymane were sparring in the royal gardens of Stormwind Keep, Mathias Shaw interrupt their training to mention that his plan to fill Orgrimmar with SI:7 agents was a success, and he heard a disagreement between Nathanos and Saurfang about their troops. Saurfang wanted an army deployed to Silithus, while Nathanos perceived that as a waste of time and resources (
部落的崛起
). As the Alliance perceived the move to Silithus to represent the Horde wanting to weaponize Azerite, Tyrande Whisperwind secretly gathered an army in Feralas to intercept the Horde forces.
After Shaw's report about the fistfight between Nathanos and Saurfang, the Horde's intentions were pretty much confirmed, with Greymane believing the Horde already found a way to create Azerite weapons. While Genn and the other Alliance leaders were in Stormwind planning for the upcoming war, the Horde saw a chance to attack Ashenvale. With the Night Elf fleet en route to Silithus, Ashenvale was only defended by Malfurion and a small number of soldiers (
灰谷动荡
). Genn was infuriated at Shaw being deceived by the Horde, but Anduin took the blame as the spies only reported what they saw and he was the one who took action.
Greymane wanted to return to Darnassus to help in the Howling Oak evacuation in Darnassus as he believed his people would need a respected authority to calmly evacuate, but he was requested to stay in Stormwind to advise Anduin. Greymane then recruited his wife, Queen Mia Greymane for the endeavor, instructing her to finish the task as quickly as possible to ensure she also made it to Stormwind safely. Greymane knew Mia would go beyond her duties to save as many lives as possible.
As the War of the Thorns progressed and the Horde advanced to Darkshore, Anduin became more distracted and restless, and one night, he went to the Keep's Map Room to recall which areas the Night Elves were losing ground on. Greymane, who was also restless, joined Anduin in contemplating the situation. Anduin brought up that the Horde would dominate all of Kalimdor and, should Sylvanas conquer Darnassus, the Alliance would be torn apart. Anduin was afraid that Sylvanas might force Greymane's hand into putting the Alliance at odds by sending help to Darnassus.
To Anduin's surprise, though, Greymane told him he would not withdraw his support to the Alliance should an event like that come to pass, as he would never betray the continued kindness of the Night Elves. Greymane was committed to protecting the Alliance at all costs, even if it required sacrifice, and this was a notion that Sylvanas could never understand. Anduin and Tyrande, who was overhearing them both, were moved by Greymane's words. Tyrande mention that should Darnassus fall, the Alliance would not be divided. However, Tyrande was there to deliver the bad news: The Night Elves were making a final stand in Astranaar and falling to the Horde (
艾露恩之光
).
The Burning of Teldrassil
As the Horde burned Teldrassil, an outpour of refugees rushed out from the portals in the Wizard's Sanctum. Anduin tried to keep the portals up for as long as he could, but he had to eventually close them to safeguard Stormwind from the flames in Darnassus. Greymane had noticed Mia still hadn't made it to Stormwind. In desperation, Greymane made to the portal, not willing to let Sylvanas take another thing he loved so dearly from him. After running through the portal, Greymane helped an injured Mia and an infant Night Elf, and after they both crossed the portals, Greymane ordered them to be closed. Teldrassil was lost to the Horde (
在灰烬之中……
).
Mia Greymane says: Hero... hero? Can you hear me?
Mia Greymane says: I am... relieved... I found you...
Mia Greymane says: Astarii... hurry. Evacuate the city... before it burns...
---
Genn Greymane says: Mia... MIA! Open your eyes, my queen... my love!
Genn Greymane says: You can't stay here any longer! We must escape through the portal!
Mia Greymane says: The tree... they're burning the tree! The child... save her. Leave... me.
Genn Greymane says: Never! I'll take you both!
Genn Greymane says: Astarii, you've done all you can! Command the priests to come with us!
Mia Greymane says: They... will not go...
Genn Greymane says: The Banshee murdered my son. Stole my kingdom. She will not cost me my beloved!
Genn Greymane says: May your goddess watch over you.
Battle for Lordaeron
After the Burning of Teldrassil, the Alliance swiftly retaliated with an assault on the Ruins of Lordaeron, in an attempt to reclaim the fallen Human kingdom for the Alliance. Greymane, like in many other battles, participated directly in the front lines, and during the battle, he managed to throw Varok Saurfang aside shortly before being incapacitated by a troll shaman.
The Alliance eventually managed to corner Sylvanas within the Throne Room of Lordaeron, with Genn showing absolute disgust at Sylvanas for desecrating the throne. Anduin demanded Sylvanas to surrender there, but the Banshee Queen announced it was all a trap, escaping to the Horde gunship while Undercity was flooded in blight. Jaina's timely teleport saved the Alliance leadership, and they returned to Stormwind to plan their next steps (
洛丹伦之战
).
Journey to Kul Tiras
After the Battle for Lordaeron, the Horde planned extraction of two prisoners from the Stormwind Stockades: Princess Talanji and Zul the Prophet of the Zandalari tribe. As the Horde strike team attempted to escape Stormwind, Greymane and his Gilnean Royal Guards tracked them down in the Cathedral District, forcing them to flee to the Harbor. Zul's predictions allowed the Horde to flee Stormwind, sailing towards Zandalar (
逃出暴风城
).
Fearing that the Horde might attempt an alliance with Zandalar, and knowing the Zandalari had a mighty naval fleet, Jaina suggested going to her homeland of Kul Tiras to ask for their help. Greymane initially disagreed with the idea, knowing that Jaina was the one responsible for Kul Tiras leaving the Alliance in the first place (
争霸艾泽拉斯:战争之潮
). As Jaina traveled to Kul Tiras, Anduin request Greymane, as well as the 7th Legion, to accompany her in the journey (
库尔提拉斯王国
).
Greymane and the 7th Legion's boat, the Wind's Redemption, arrived not long after Jaina, who was already apprehended by the Lord Admiral of Kul Tiras and her mother, Katherine Proudmoore. However, the Wind's Redemption crew was given sanctuary within Boralus by the harbormaster, Cyrus Crestfall. Cyrus had also hired a mercenary, Flynn Fairwind, to free the Alliance adventurer that was sent as an emissary together with Jaina (
逃之夭夭
).
Greymane questioned Cyrus as to why he would grant them sanctuary when Katherine would not, with Cyrus telling a story about how, during the Second War, he had a friend who died tragically from a wound he chose to ignore rather than treat before it was too late. He reflected that he thought Kul Tiras was in a similar state, with Katherine being poorly advised to Kul Tiras' internal problems, and if Kul Tiras did not accept help from the Alliance, it might meet a similar fate. Greymane commented he received the same lesson during the fall of Gilneas, and they would work together to open Katherine's eyes and show that there is strength in numbers (
老迈骑士
).
Genn Greymane says: Katherine Proudmoore turned us away and had her own daughter cast out as a traitor.
Genn Greymane says: Why would you help us?
Cyrus Crestfall says: Hmph... Humor an old knight for a moment, would you?
Cyrus Crestfall says: I was in a battle many years ago. It was... the Second War? Tough to keep them all straight.
---
Cyrus Crestfall says: An orcish juggernaut struck our transport. Splinters from the gunnel ripped across the deck and tore into a friend of mine.
Cyrus Crestfall says: Should have been his ticket home, but he was a stubborn one. Refused to leave before the war was won. So he patched himself up and told the healers he was fine.
Cyrus Crestfall says: A few days later, he woke up screaming and drenched in sweat. Infection had eaten away at his insides. My friend never saw another sunrise.
---
Cyrus Crestfall says: By the time he asked for help, it was too late.
Cyrus Crestfall says: Kul Tiras still bears the scars of the Third War. No one feels this more deeply than Katherine Proudmoore.
Cyrus Crestfall says: But she is misguided. Her advisors have kept her blind to the infection that has spread throughout our kingdom.
Cyrus Crestfall says: The land I love is falling apart... so I'm asking for your help. Kul Tiras needs the Alliance just as badly as you need us.
Genn Greymane says: I see. Than we shall prove to Katherine Proudmoore the same truth I learned at great cost...
Genn Greymane says: In unity, there is strength.
The Pride of Kul Tiras
As the Alliance helped uniting or freeing the houses of Kul Tiras, the Alliance adventurer managed to expose Priscilla Ashvane's plot of trying to take down House Proudmoore and rise as the new Lord Admiral of Kul Tiras (
陈述实情
). As Ashvane escaped, Greymane approached Katherine at Proudmoore Keep, right in front of Daelin Proudmoore's grave. Katherine mused about how alone she felt now that Ashvane was shown to be a betrayer.
Greymane commented that she still had Jaina, but Katherine rebutted that Jaina betrayed Kul Tiras by delivering Daelin Proudmoore to his death. Greymane then insisted that Jaina did only what she thought was right by following her heart and hoping for a peaceful solution at the time, and Jaina suffered from that decision ever since. Katherine admitted that Jaina's fate was haunting her dreams, and Greymane told her that it was not too late to rescue Jaina. Greymane told her to go for it and take the chance, mentioning he would have done absolutely anything to bring his son, Liam, back, if he had that chance (
悔不当初
).
Katherine Proudmoore says: I don't know what to do, Daelin. I don't know what to believe in... who to trust.
Katherine Proudmoore says: Priscilla, the greatest friend of my heart... has stabbed me in it.
Katherine Proudmoore says: I have nothing... no one... left...
Genn Greymane says: You have Jaina.
Katherine Proudmoore says: Jaina betrayed the kingdom.
Genn Greymane says: Jaina did nothing but follow her heart. And she's suffered for that.
Genn Greymane says: ... she's suffering even more now. Isn't she?
Katherine Proudmoore says: ... I see her... in my dreams.
Katherine Proudmoore says: Genn... She's burning.
Genn Greymane says: Katherine, she's calling out to you... You must go to her.
Katherine Proudmoore says: It's too late for that.
Genn Greymane says: If you can hear her... then it's not too late.
Genn Greymane says: I would give anything to hold my boy again.
Genn Greymane says: You've been given one more chance.
Genn Greymane says: Take it. Bring her home.
Tides of Vengeance
The sentinels Shandris Feathermoon, Maiev Shadowsong and Sira Moonwarden attempted to convince Anduin to commit Alliance forces to Darkshore, to take the zone back from the Horde. However, with the Alliance forces already spread between Kul Tiras, Zandalar and Arathi, Anduin could not send additional troops to Darkshore. Despite Anduin's refusal, Greymane ensured he would send Gilnean forces to help them retake Darkshore as payment for the continued support of the Night Elves. Anduin did not question the decision (
命运海岸
).
Genn Greymane says: Anduin... I need a word.
Anduin Wrynn says: Of course. You know you can always speak your mind.
Genn Greymane says: The night elves saved my people from our curse. They offered us refuge in Darnassus after our kingdom fell.
Genn Greymane says: I cannot stand idle as they endure the same fate we did. Gilneas will fight by their side.
Genn Greymane says: I don't mean to defy you. But if I didn't give the order, I think Mia would charge off to battle without me.
Anduin Wrynn says: I understand, Genn. Light be with you.
Battle for Dazar'alor
Greymane appears once more in the frontlines during the Battle for Dazar'alor. Greymane directly confronted King Rastakhan in his throne room, attempted to convince the zandalari king to surrender. As Rastakhan did not surrender, they had no choice but defeat the King.
This story is told to the Horde side via a scout who witnessed the confrontration, so there are differences in the narrative, being left unclear which version is the real one.
Genn Greymane: King Rastakhan of Zandalar... On behalf of the Alliance, and in the name of King Anduin Wrynn, I hereby request your surrender.
Otoye: Like hungry predators, de Alliance monsters closed in on their prey.
Otoye: De heartless Alliance stormed de throne room. Our noble king defied them to de very end!
Genn Greymane: King Rastakhan of Zandalar... I order you to submit! You will bow before your new master, King Anduin Wrynn, and you will deliver your daughter to us as a hostage!
King Rastakhan: You... an exile without a homeland... you dare invade dese sacred halls and demand dat I turn my kingdom over to you?
King Rastakhan: De Zandalari built an empire dat would endure for over ten-thousand years... while your barbaric ancestors scuffled in de dirt.
King Rastakhan: WE conquered this world. WE brought it glory. You... you are nothing. Merely de latest in a long line of savages seeking to undermine our greatness.
King Rastakhan: No, I will not surrender. Because no matter what happens here today... Zandalar will stand long after your Alliance has crumbled to dust.
King Rastakhan: But if you are so eager to meet Bwonsamdi... den step forward. De Loa of Death awaits!
King Rastakhan: Zandalar forever!
Genn Greymane: So be it. Heroes... you know what must be done.
Genn Greymane: So be it. Heroes of the Alliance... strike him down! No mercy for this savage!
As the Alliance emerged victorious from Dazar'alor, Anduin contemplates that although the battle was won, it was done at a high price. Greymane comforted him by saying Rastakhan was a casualty of war, and they needed to take the momentum they had just created within Dazar'aor to secure their final victory against the Horde (
战后总结
).
Halford Wyrmbane says: My king, the attack on Zuldazar was a resounding success.
Master Mathias Shaw says: The Horde is losing on all fronts. The Alliance should achieve victory in a matter of weeks.
Anduin Wrynn says: Yes, but at what cost? So many fallen... including Mekkatorque, whose life hangs by a thread. And I fear the death of Rastakhan will ignite a fire in the hearts of the Zandalari.
Genn Greymane says: He was a casualty of war, Anduin. A king must be willing to sacrifice himself for his people without doubt or hesitation.
Anduin Wrynn says: I know that, Genn... as well as anyone.
Anduin Wrynn says: But our mission was to drive a wedge between the Zandalari and the Horde. Instead, we may have strengthened their bond.
Halford Wyrmbane says: More than half the Zandalari vessels were destroyed in the initial strike, and the Horde fleet is in disarray. Their remaining ships cannot hope to stand against the Kul Tiran navy.
Genn Greymane says: The Horde has never been more vulnerable. We should strike hard... before Sylvanas hatches another vile scheme.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: Press the attack as the Zandalari mourn their fallen king? That would make us no better than the Banshee.
Master Mathias Shaw says: She's the real problem here. I imagine she is already finding ways to turn this to her advantage.
Anduin Wrynn says: We must continue the fight. But as we push towards victory, we must never lose sight of who we are and what we stand for.
Rise of Azshara
Greymane is the leader of the Alliance fleet that went chasing against the remnants of the Horde's fleet through the seas. They did not know that they were being led to a trap laid down by Azshara, and ended up shipwrecked in Nazjatar with great losses for the Alliance (
狼王之咬
).
In Nazjatar, Greymane struggles to find surviving Alliance forces, and while trying to find shelter from Azshara's forces with Jaina Proudmoore, Shandris Feathermoon and the adventurer, he meets up with Blademaster Okani of the Waveblade Ankoan (
深陷困境
). Greymane is initially distrustful of the Ankoan, but follows them to their safe haven of Mezzamere after Jaina brings up that they have no real choice but to trust them (
路向何方
). Greymane slowly warms up to the Ankoan, while remaining wary of the Horde.
When Jaina returns to Nazjatar after helping the Horde rebellion free Baine Bloodhoof, she tells Greymane that they need to unite with the Horde if they are to have any chance against Azshara. Greymane reluctantly agrees to unite with the Horde in Nazjatar, but states that he will not tolerate a betrayal (
刀下留人
).
Genn Greymane: Good to have you back, Jaina. Why did King Anduin summon you?
Lady Jaina Proudmoore: Sylvanas ordered the execution of Baine Bloodhoof. Anduin sent us into Orgrimmar to rescue him.
Genn Greymane: You risked your lives to save a leader of the Horde?
Lady Jaina Proudmoore: After what he did for Derek, I felt I owed him a debt. We received some unexpected help from Saurfang... and Thrall.
Shandris Feathermoon: You were fortunate that you were not betrayed. Presenting your heads might have regained their warchief's favor.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore: We had a common enemy. Sylvanas wanted us at each other's throats. Perhaps that's what Azshara wants, too.
Genn Greymane: Hold on... Are you suggesting we lay down our arms and fight beside them? After all they've done?
Lady Jaina Proudmoore: No. Merely that we direct our efforts against Azshara instead of the Horde. That could buy time for Saurfang's rebellion to take root.
Shandris Feathermoon: There must be vengeance for Teldrassil. But if Azshara is not stopped, she will unleash her master upon the world.
Genn Greymane: Very well. We will focus on defeating the naga queen. But if the Horde turns against us, they will answer for it.
The Alliance and Horde forces eventually merge together in a final strike against the naga forces at the Tidal Conflux, the location where the Tidestone of Golganneth is located. Greymane fights in the frontlines with an adventurer and Lor'themar Theron, and the gilnean and sin'dorei leaders share some words, complimenting each other on their fighting styles and being thankful they did not have an opportunity to battle and kill each other in the past. Eventually, the combined might of the Horde and the Alliance secures the Tidestone, but are met with Azshara mocking them, inviting them formally to enter her palace (
潮汐无常
).
Genn Greymane: Ah, <player>, you've arrived. Perfect timing...
Lor'themar Theron: We plan to secure the Tidestone. I advise you stay out of our way.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore: This is our best opportunity to seize the Tidestone from Azshara's grasp.
First Arcanist Thalyssra: Their champion holds the Javelin of Suramar. We should hear what they have to say.
---
Genn Greymane: Jaina, our troops stand no chance against the Tidestone's guardian. Lor'themar and I will deal with the rest of the nags while you confront her.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore: Our champion bears the Javelin. We must ensure it strikes true. First Arcanist, if you shield me while I attack, we stand a better chance of succeeding.
First Arcanist Thalyssra: A sound plan. We face a formidable foe.
Lor'themar Theron: Coordination between our forces is the best strategy. But know that any duplicity will be met with retribution.
---
Genn Greymane: Champion, with me. I would have you by my side when we take the camp.
Lor'themar Theron: As you wish, Greymane. Your champion does not frighten me.
Lor'themar Theron: Impressive, Greymane. A pity we never had the honor of facing one another on the battlefield.
Genn Greymane: How fortunate that we never did. It would have been a waste to kill you.
8.2.5
After the “end” of Azshara and the completion of the War Campaign, Genn discusses the future of the Alliance together with Mathias Shaw, expressing discontent regarding the end of the Fourth War:
Genn Greymane: Anduin considers this a victory. But the Horde is united once again, and Sylvanas is still out there.
Mathias Shaw: So is Nathanos. My agents are scouring the Eastern Kingdoms for them as we speak.
Genn Greymane: And what do we do about the Horde?
Mathias Shaw: We wait. We watch. We listen. And we let King Wrynn know if and when it is time for action.
Shadows Rising
Sometime after Sylvanas left the Horde and the armistice between the two factions was signed, the Alliance discovered evidence that Dark Rangers were in Zandalar. Some of the Alliance's scouts, which had been sent to monitor the waters between Zandalar and the Eastern Kingdoms, had been killed by arrows very similar to the ones Dark Rangers used. Genn brought the news to Anduin, and pointed out the unique fletching on the arrows - he could recognize them as the Gilneans were extremely familiar with Forsaken arrows. Genn wanted the Alliance to send a force into Zandalar right away, hoping to catch Sylvanas, but Anduin and Turalyon worried that it would risk the armistice. Genn argued that Talanji had been brought to the Horde by Sylvanas - she may still be in league with her even if the Horde were not. However, Anduin still wouldn't risk the peace, and instead sent Turalyon and Alleria to investigate. Though this wasn't exactly what Genn had asked for, he acknowledged that it was a wise choice.
Turalyon and Alleria found evidence that Dark Rangers were definitely in Zandalar. Anduin decided to send the spymaster Mathias Shaw to Zandalar to investigate further. This decision caused Genn to ask if it wouldn't be better to send a larger force, but again Anduin spoke of not wanting to risk the armistice. Genn accepted the decision with no further objection.
