The Founding of Durotar: Old Hatreds Campaign
In an attack on Cairne Bloodhoof's village in Mulgore, his son Baine was taken captive by the attacking centaur. Assuming his son was killed by the centaurs, Cairne slipped into a lethargic, depressive state, abandoning his duties as the war chief. Rexxar, sent by Thrall to seek aid from Cairne, is met by Tagar who tells him that Cairne's only son has been captured by the invading centaurs and is more or less dead considering the centaurs are cannibals and do not keep prisoners for a long time. Tagar then tells Rexxar if he finds his son, Cairne will be of better assistance to him and Thrall, and recommends he find Bovan Windtotem to help locate Baine.
Cairne Bloodhoof: Who are you, traveler? Why have you come here?
Rexxar: I come in the name of Thrall, warchief of the Horde. His lands are in danger, and he calls upon his old allies to aid him. I seek the one known as Cairne. Do you know him?
Cairne Bloodhoof: I am Cairne, but I can be of help to no one. Return to your warchief and tell him that I am dead... just as my heart is dead.
Tagar: The barbarous centaur attacked our village recently. Our chieftain's only son--Baine, was taken captive. The centaurs are cannibals and do not keep prisoners for long. We searched everywhere for a sign that Baine was still alive, but we found no trace of him.
Tagar: Poor Cairne has been lethargic for some time. Without his wisdom and leadership, I fear that the centaur will decimate our tribe. Perhaps if you could find some clue as to his son's fate, it might rouse the chieftain from his stupor?
Tagar: Find Bovan Windtotem out on the plains. He and his brethren will aid you in your search.
Following the advice that was given to him by Tagar, Rexxar seeks out Bovan Windtotem to assist him with his rescue mission. Bovan shows Rexxar where Baine is located in a pool, learning that he is trapped in a centaur encampment.
Rexxar: Greetings, brother Windtotem. I was told you could help me locate Chieftain Bloodhoof's son. There may still be a chance that the boy lives, but we'll need to find the centaur encampment as quickly as possible.
Bovan Windtotem: I see.
Bovan walks towards the well.
Bovan Windtotem: I dreamed of this...
The pool shows where's Baine is being held captive.
Rexxar: That's the centaur encampment. They could be keeping Baine in one of those cages, but we'll have to fight our way to them.
Rexxar: Don't worry, Baine. We'll have you back to your father in no time.
One by one, Baine watched as the other captives were slain right before his eyes, weakening his faith in his own survival. After Rexxar rescues Baine, Eternally grateful Cairne agrees to help Thrall and sends his warriors to fight with Thrall on the battlefield.
Cairne Bloodhoof: Baine, my son, I thought I'd lost you forever! I was an old fool to despair. Rexxar, by returning my son to me, you have given me new life. For that I will ever be grateful.
Cairne Bloodhoof: Now, you said your warchief was in trouble--that the Horde needed the tauren once again. Well, Thrall did much for us in his time, and we will not fail him. My warriors will rendezvous with the warchief upon the battlefield, but I will be returning with you.

The Death of Cairne Bloodhoof
贝恩·血蹄
's father Cairne Bloodhoof was slain by Garrosh Hellscream during mak'gora (a duel of honor) due to Garrosh's unfair advantage. During a mak'gora duel, the duelers are allowed one weapon and one blessing from a shaman of their choice. Prior to the duel between Cairne and Garrosh, Magatha had come to Garrosh and told him that his father Grom was exactly what the horde needed to persevere. Keeping this in mind, Garrosh chose Magatha as his shaman who would bless his weapon of choice,
血吼
(his father Grom's ax), but instead of blessing it, Magatha poisoned it.
They both fought hard, and as Cairne blocked a heavy blow from Garrosh, Cairne's weapon the runespear had shattered. With
血吼
ripping into Cairne's chest, he gripped the lower third of the runespear and prepared for one last blow to Garrosh. Garrosh was weak from the block that shattered the runespear and would die with one last hit from it. Unfortunately, however,
血吼
had penetrated Cairne's skin and the poison entered his bloodstream, blurring his vision and eventually killing him.
"And so, I, who have lived my whole life with honor, die betrayed."-

The Grimtotem's Attack on Thunderbluff
Following the death of his father,
贝恩·血蹄
became the High Cheiftan leader of the Tauren. However, when Baine went back to his home Thunder Bluff in Mulgore, he was faced with Magatha Grimtotem and her agents' whose sole intentions were to take the village for their own. Knowing that Cairne Bloodhoof was dead due to her treacherous action of poisoning Garrosh's ax, Magatha took into consideration that a ritual funeral for Cairne would be taking place and realized it was the perfect opportunity to strike.
While the Tauren paid their respects to Cairne, Magatha sent Cor and Gorm Grimtotem to attack the village, taking out anyone that stood in their path. Magatha and the Grimtotem tribe were successful with their assault and capture of Thunder Bluff. Following the siege, Magatha named herself High Chieftain of Thunder Bluff, but worried that Baine might try to take back the position of High Chieftan. Out of fear, she sent a message to Garrosh Hellscream in Orgrimmar pleading for help. In her message, Magatha requested aid from Garrosh to help defend Thunder Bluff in exchange for an alliance with the Horde.
Very soon after sending her message, a courier returned to Magatha with a message from Garrosh Hellscream himself. The courier read aloud the beginning of Garrosh's response, but what he read was not what Magatha was expecting. She expected Garrosh to send troops that would rush into Thunder Bluff and aid her. However, she instead received a hateful note wishing a slow, painful death on her (The text can be read below). After reading Garrosh's response, she angrily summoned a lightning bolt from the sky which busted through the ceiling and killed the courier on the spot.
"Unto Elder Crone Magatha of the Grimtotem,
Acting Warchief of the Horde, Garrosh Hellscream,
Sends his most sincere wishes for a slow and painful death.
It has come to my attention that you have deprived me of a rightful kill. Cairne Bloodhoof was a hero to the Horde and an honorable member of a usually honorable race.
It is with disgust and anger that I discover you have caused me to bring about his death through accidental treachery.
Such tactics may work well for your renegade, honorless tribe and Alliance scum, but I despise them.
It was my wish to fight Cairne fairly, and win or lose by my own skill or lack of it.
Now I shall never know, and the cry of traitor will dog my steps until such time as I can sport your head on a pike and point to you as the real traitor.
So...no. I will not be sending any truehearted orcs to fight alongside your treacherous, belly-crawling tribe.
Your victory or your defeat is in the hands of your Earth Mother now.
Either way, I look forward to hearing of your demise.
You are on your own, Magatha, as friendless and disliked as you have ever been. Perhaps more. Enjoy your loneliness." - Garrosh Hellscream.
The Shattering, pg. 343
Taking Back Thunder Bluff
Jevan Grimtotem, also known as Stormsong, a fellow shaman and long-term follower of Magatha Grimtotem, was ordered by Magatha to lead the assault on the Bloodhoof village. However, Jevan felt that Magatha's trickery was unjust. He believed that Cairne Bloodhoof was a strong, right-minded leader and that his death by Magatha went against what it meant to be a shaman.
Before leading the assault on the Bloodhoof Village, he snuck away and obtained a fragment of the runespear which was shattered in the unfair duel between Garrosh and Cairne. Careful not to be seen by his fellow Grimtotems, he snuck into Baine Bloodhoof's tent to warn him about what Magatha had done and showed him the shattered runespear fragment as proof of Magatha's betrayal.
Together, Baine Bloodhoof and Jevan Grimtotem planned to retake Thunder Bluff, starting with the explosives. Gazlowe was under the impression that Magatha had sent Jevan to him to gather weaponry and mercenaries for her cause, but Jevan was secretly undercover working with the enemy, Baine. Gazlowe, being the money-hungry goblin he is, agreed to supply Jevan with what he needed considering supplying the mercenaries, zeppelins, and explosives would put a bunch of gold into his greedy pockets.
During the assault on Thunder Bluff, Baine, unable to gather allies within the Horde, decided to ask aid to whom he considered an honorable enemy: Jaina Proudmoore, ruler of Theramore. While in a meeting with Jaina, Baine meets Anduin Wrynn, the heir to the throne of Stormwind. Unlike Varian, Baine warms up to the young Wrynn, who, in an act of friendship, gives the great mace Fearbreaker to Baine. The hammer, one of Magni Bronzebeard's creations, takes a liking to Baine, steadying its hold on the Tauren. Jaina, moved by the gesture between the tauren and the human, agrees to support Baine on his efforts of taking Thunder Bluff back.

This has created a lasting friendship between Baine and the Alliance, although Baine didn't feel worthy of wielding the great mace and eventually returned the weapon to Anduin Wrynn.
The Aftermath
After the battle,
贝恩·血蹄
had the remaining survivor's of the Grimtotem tribe treated of their wounds- it's what his father would have done. Cairne Bloodhoof was kind and allowed the Grimtotem to live in Thunder Bluff before their betrayal, and Baine was sure to remind them of this. Baine then grabbed Magatha's totem pouch and destroyed each of the four totems one by one before her- the destruction of these totems would serve to ruin the element's trust in her.
Baine exiled her to Stonetalon Mountains and gave the rest of the Grimtotem tribe the choice of either following Magatha to be exiled to the Stonetalon Mountains or becoming true members of the Horde with Jevan Grimtotem as their leader. A majority of the Grimtotem members chose to side with Baine Bloodhoof, but those who chose to stay loyal to Magatha were escorted to the harsh Stonetalon Mountains.
"You like comfort, Magatha Grimtotem. You like power. I will let you live, but you will taste neither. You know what this is. It is your totem pouch. I do not think for a moment this will completely sever your connection to the elements, but I know it will anger the elements. And it will take you time-- and abasement before them--to regain their favor again. I think such groveling and humility are fine things for you to taste. In fact, I will contribute even more of such things. You will be sent from this place to the harsh Stonetalon Mountains. There you may eke out an existence as best you may. Harm no one, and no one will harm you. Attack, and you are the enemy, and I will put no restraints on anything anyone wishes to do to you. And stir up treachery again--then, Magatha, I will come for you myself, and even the spirit of Cairne Bloodhoof urging me to calmness will not stop me from cutting off your head. Are we clear?”

"Echo of Baine: Enraged by his failure to protect the world and, most importantly, the Horde, this time-ravaged shade of Baine Bloodhoof lingers within the ruins of the Obsidian Dragonshrine. Although he's still as powerful as the tauren high chieftain from the present, within this shattered future Azeroth, this guilt-ridden echo is little more than a discordant vessel of unquenchable malice and anger."

Mists of Pandaria
Jaina Proudmoore: Tides of War
Baine attended the meeting called by Warchief Garrosh even though he wasn't comfortable in the reformed Orgrimmar. During the meeting, Garrosh revealed his plan: to stunt Alliance operations within Kalimdor by attacking Theramore. Baine agreed with Sylvanas objections to the plan, the Banshee Queen revealing that she believed an attack to Theramore would make the Alliance turn their attention to north of Eastern Kingdoms, specifically the Forsaken and the Blood Elves.
During the meeting, Baine told Garrosh that attacking Theramore was irresponsible, as Jaina had helped him with retaking Thunder Bluff when the Horde couldn't, and was received with Garrosh mentioning that he was to be silent if he didn't wish to meet the same fate as Cairne. When Baine mentioned that said treatment was betrayal, Garrosh was furious, and they almost went to blows, stopped by Eitrigg, Hamuul Runetotem and Garrosh's new bodyguard, Malkorok.
After the meeting, Garrosh asked Baine if his loyalty was with the Horde or the Alliance, and Baine swiftly responded that he would have left the Horde when Cairne died, had he chosen to do so. Garrosh was ashamed for a second at the response. After that, Garrosh announced that the Horde was to advance through Northwatch Hold to Theramore, and any Alliance in the way was to be dealt with swiftly.
Later, Baine learned that Malkorok, Garrosh's new bodyguard, was a Blackrock Orc. Disgusted by the thought of having a former servant of Rend Blackhand back into the Horde, he commented that with Vol'jin, who mentioned that it was that different from Baine, who allowed the Grimtotem Tauren into Thunder Bluff. Baine commented that he was thinking better of Taurens than Orcs that day, and Vol'jin agreed to the sentiment.
On the day of the attack to Northwatch Hold, Baine, Vol'jin and the Thunder Bluff/Darkspear forces marched together, slaughtering any Alliance in the way. After Garrosh ordered his dark shaman to summon molten elementals, Baine learned that they had enslaved these elementals, a practice originally forbidden by the Earthen Ring. Seeing the elementals smashing anyone on their way, be it Horde or Alliance, Baine retreated his forces, afraid of the oncoming friendly fire.
After the conquering of Northwatch Hold, Baine was thinking about Garrosh's thoughtless act against the elements, and decided to send Perith Stormhoof to warn Jaina about the upcoming attack on Theramore. Baine also used this opportunity to return the great mace, Fearbreaker, to Anduin Wrynn, as he felt he was no longer worthy of wielding it for being part of the fall of Northwatch.
Garrosh decided to keep his forces at Northwatch instead of advancing towards Theramore, an action that annoyed Baine, Vol'jin, and part of the Horde forces, as this would give the Alliance enough time to reinforce Theramore. They planned on having a meeting in secret to discuss what the Warchief was thinking, as he would not see anyone but Malkorok. However, Garrosh was tipped of this meeting, and was enraged at the group.
When Garrosh questioned the group, Malkorok stated that questioning the Warchief was questioning the Horde as a whole. Baine retorted that the secret meeting would only happen because Garrosh refused to see anyone but his bodyguard, to which Garrosh replied that he didn't need to see anyone, and they were to wait his command to march. Hamuul Runetotem mentioned that Thrall would have agreed to see them, and Garrosh retaliated pointing out his brown skin, saying he would never be Thrall. Garrosh agreed that both Baine and Vol'jin were loyal to the Horde in their own ways and ordered them to return to camp. When Baine realized that word of Perith Stormhoof's meeting with the Alliance did not reach Garrosh or Malkorok, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Baine and Vol'jin were allowed a meeting with Garrosh, although Malkorok was also there. The meeting initially began peacefully, but eventually Baine questioned why did it seem like Garrosh would only listen to Malkorok. Garrosh told the Blackrock orc to stand down and told both Baine and Vol'jin that their forces were to withdraw from Northwatch Hold. As they left to carry out the Warchief's orders, they could hear Garrosh and Malkorok laughing in the background.
When the Battle for Theramore began, Baine and Vol'jin were personally chosen as part of Garrosh's personal attack force on the north gate of Theramore. Baine personally fought with Jaina's bodyguard, the Night Elf called Pained. The tauren and the night elf were equally matched foes. During this fight, Vol'jin approached and warned Baine that the blue dragon Kalecgos was aiding with the defense of Theramore, and attempting to build a trap so that the Horde forces could not retreat. Hearing Vol'jin's warnings, Garrosh ordered the Horde to retreat, but Baine to stay behind and warn as many soldiers as he could of the retreat order. Baine, not wishing to have a rescue mission sent for him, quickly disarmed Pained and retreated as well.
With the battle for Theramore seemingly lost, Baine marched to Garrosh and threw a tauren-bloodied cloth on the Orc's face, and mentioned that the Tauren blood was more fitting for the Orc than his tattoos. Garrosh merely laughed and told Baine to look up. The reason for the attack on Theramore was finally revealed: It was not to take the city for the Horde, but as a way to unite as many Alliance leaders as possible in the city, and obliterate them with a mana bomb. The Horde forces bore witness to the destruction of Theramore, with many of them cheering and many, including Baine, being disgusted with the act.
As Theramore burned, Baine wondered where was that Orc that once stated that honor should not be abandoned, no matter how dire the battle, had gone. Baine joined Vol'jin and other Horde members, mostly composed of Forsaken, Blood Elves and Trolls, in silent protest in Razor Hill. Later on, Malkorok and his Blackrock brethren blew up the inn there, an act that was considered an accident by Garrosh. Baine did not seem to believe that this was an actual accident.
Following the Alliance's counterattack on Orgrimmar, led by Jaina, Baine learned that Northwatch Hold was retaken, and the might of the Alliance naval forces were coming for the Horde blockade set in Kalimdor, in response to Theramore's destruction. When Garrosh ordered for the Horde blockade to retreat, Baine was pleased, as he thought Garrosh has given up on his conquest of Kalimdor. However, the truth was dire: Garrosh was moving on to a war of total genocide.
In response to that, Baine announced that him and the Tauren were returning to Thunder Bluff, and should Garrosh want the continued aid of the Tauren, another Theramore were never to happen again. Garrosh merely smirked and side-eyed Baine, stating that his announcement was duly-noted. As Baine leaves Orgrimmar, he sees Vol'jin and shakes his head, agreeing with the troll that they must protect their people. As the tauren returned to Thunder Bluff, he was left thinking if Garrosh was mad with power, or simply mad altogether.
Landfall
Initially, Baine had sent Sunwalker Dezco, the chieftain of the Dawnchaser tribe, to Pandaria, in search of a valley, golden with blossoms, filled with hopes and dreams. Many Tauren dreamed of the valley, including Baine himself.
> How did you get here?
We were called.
We sailed deep into uncharted waters, at first on orders from High Chieftain Baine Bloodhoof.
It was my wife Leza whose visions gave us a course to sail by.
But when we saw the wall of mists, we all began to feel the call like a voice on the wind. North. The voice calls for us to travel north.
We came ashore, dismantled our ship, and sailed up river by canoe until we hit the cliff you see before us.
> What is happening inside the tent?
My wife, Leza, is in labor and fighting a fever.
This cursed jungle is sapping all of our strength. It could be something in the water.
> Why would you bring a pregnant woman with you?
It was Leza's visions that led us here. Each of us have had dreams of a valley, golden with blossoms, filled with the hope of peace.
Even our chieftain Baine Bloodhoof had these dreams.
Only Leza's visions gave us a path to follow, though. And now, here we are, for better or worse.
However, Baine himself eventually journeyed to Pandaria to keep a close eye on Garrosh. When the Orcs were not able to control the Sha energy Garrosh imbued them with, Baine secretly sent General Nazgrim to search for discreet adventurers to knock the Orcs back into their senses.
Baine then messaged Vol'jin to talk about the situation in Pandaria, and warned the troll that he would stay in the continent to keep overlooking Garrosh. Vol'jin showed worry for Baine's safety, and secretly tells Horde champions to keep an eye on Baine to ensure things don't get out of hand for the Tauren.
The Darkspear Rebellion
Having heard of the ongoing rebellion from the Darkspear, Baine traveled back to Kalimdor, specifically to Razor Hill, arriving just after a battle between the Darkspear forces and the Kor'kron guard. In Razor Hill, Baine discovered that Vol'jin survived an assassination attempt by Garrosh's henchmen. Baine assured he would side with Vol'jin and the rebellion, but he had to be careful about his support, as Orgrimmar was turned into a fortress and many Tauren were trapped within the Horde capital.
Baine tells adventurers that it would be wise to seek help beyond the Horde, and sends one of his best friends, the tauren Abrogar Dusthoof, to Shrine of the Two Moons in Pandaria to keep an eye there.
Siege of Orgrimmar
At the gates of Orgrimmar, Baine Bloodhoof can be found alongside Vol'jin and his Darkspear headhunters. Heroes aid them by taking on and defeating General Nazgrim's Iron Juggernaut. Upon slaying the Iron Juggernaut, Tyrande tells Baine and Vol'jin to keep moving forward as she secures the entrance; and off they go to the Underhold. In the Underhold, Baine and Vol'jin continue to fight off the Kor'kron orcs. Baine can also be found during the Garrosh Hellscream encounter impaled amongst other horde and alliance leaders as well as at the end of the encounter alongside Vol'jin and other members of the horde.
Baine in War Crimes
"Defend Garrosh Hellscream. The very words were an offense." - Baine Bloodhoof
In the novel War Crimes, the horde leaders head to the Temple of the White Tiger to witness Garrosh Hellscream's trial lead by the August Celestials. Rather than killing Garrosh on the spot, The August Celestials decided it would be best if the Horde and Alliance also had a say in what happened to the traitor. Tyrande was given the task of leading the prosecution whereas Baine Bloodhoof was appointed by the other leaders of the Horde to be Garrosh's lawyer. Initially Baine resisted because Garrosh had slain his father Cairne. However, when Baine returned to Mulgore to contemplate his task, he was met by the spirit of his father who told him to be Garrosh's lawyer so that he could finally be at peace. Shortly after the encounter with the spirit of his father, Kairozdormu arrives and transports Baine back to the Temple of the White Tiger where he begins preparing Garrosh's defense.
Before the trial, Kairozdormu tells Baine, Tyrande, and Chromie that he has created an aid called the Vision of Time. The artifact allowed the user to take a glimpse into any given point in time (including the future) and witness events that have happened or will happen. To keep things fair, both lawyers would be given equal amounts of time and practice using the Vision of Time to help their cases and Chromie would advise Tyrande while Kairozdormu would advise Baine.
Kairozdormu: "It can create a precisely controlled rift in time. "It does not run the risk of changing history, I have altered he intrinsic makeup of the Sands of Time we will be using. The Vision of Time won't actually manifest the events. Only the sights and sounds will be able to come through the rift."
As the trial progresses and more visions are shown, Tyrande is approached by a Night Elf sentinel who tells her about Baine's dealing with Jaina. Perith Stormhoof, one of Baine's closest friends, was called to the stand by Tyrande. While he initially refused to disclose what Jaina had done to help during the Grimtotem invasion on Thunderbluff, Baine forced him to do so. He shared that Jaina had helped finance Baine during the Grimtotem invasion but that's all she could do considering she didn't want to involve the Alliance in another war with the Horde. The courthouse is outraged. Taran Zhu offers Garrosh to chose someone else to defend him, but decides to keep Baine on his side to keep his last moments alive entertaining.
Taran Zhu:"Baine Bloodhoof, you may have a moment with the Accused and-"
Garrosh Hellscream: "I do not need a moment,"
Taran Zhu: "The Defender should speak-"
Garrosh Hellscream: "I will speak, and I will keep Baine Bloodhoof."
Baine shared in his closing statement to the court that while alive, decisions can still be made and people may yet change, Garrosh Hellscream included. Garrosh, however, sabotaged himself by telling the court he regret nothing and would do it all over again if he could.
"I have heard everything you have heard. I have seen what you have seen. Tyrande Whisperwind has presented a strong and damning case against me. A case that has roused some of you to anger, and thoughts of revenge. Thoughts of my death. I do not blame you for hungering for that. Baine Bloodhoof, who has little enough cause to do so, has with great earnestness represented a case not protesting my innocence, but asking for your understanding. For your compassion. For you, the jury and the spectators, to look within your own hearts, and see that no one is completely free from blame. And Prince Anduin, who by all rights should be foremost among those clamoring for my death, has chosen to spend hours in my company. I attempted to slay him, in a brutal, cruel, and painful manner. And what does he do? He speaks to me of the Light. He tells me he believes that I can change. He has shown me kindness when I offered hatred and violence. It is because of him that I stand before you, facing what I expect to be a pronouncement of my death, as a warrior, not as a broken slave. Oh, yes. I know full well how much blood is on my hands. I know exactly that magnitude and the consequences of what I have done. And now, here at this moment, when I am free to speak my mind and heart, I tell you true: I regret..... Nothing! I would destroy a thousand more Theramores, if it would bring the Alliance to its knees! I would hunt down every night elf whelp that bleats on the face of this world and silence their mewling forever! I would banish every troll, every tauren, every simpering blood elf and greedy goblin and shambling waling corpse if it were within my power - and it almost was! The only atrocities I regret are the ones I did not perform! The only thing that preys on me is that I stopped before I could see the true Horde live again! Nothing - nothing in this world can stop me!""
-Garrosh Hellscream, War Crimes
Garrosh soon after is able to escape to Draenor with the help of Kairozdormu who opened rifts to multiple timelines during their escape. Baine can be seen in an alternate timeline where he killed Garrosh and is now the Warchief of the Horde. Full of anger and rage from all he had endured, Baine had to convince his alternate self that they were the same at the core and that his decisions were wrong, which caused the alternate Baine to disappear.

Battle for Broken Shore
Baine Bloodhoof fought alongside the horde during The Battle of the Broken Shore. He can be seen in the cinematic carrying Thrall to safety after being wounded during battle.
Gallywix's Findings
During the patch 7.3.5 Horde epilogue cinematic, Baine can be found sitting around a table with the other Horde leaders including Saurfang, Sylvanas, and Gallywix. As Baine finishes his speech, Gallywix weasles his way in to show Sylvanas a new substance (that we now know as Azerite) that was discovered by the goblins. Baine and Saurfang mock Gallywix and are disgusted by his money-driven schemes, and when Baine tells Saurfang that Gallywix had been sending goblins to Silithus, Saurfang responds with, "Nothing good ever came from Silithus."
Baine Bloodhoof: "Warchief, if I may offer a few words..
It is with both pain and pride that we gather here today, Pain for many brave heroes of the Horde, fell against a terrible foe, and pride, for against all odds we have vanquished the legion. we bled, now we heal. we mourn, now, we celebrate. For the Horde!"
Highmountain Tauren
The Highmountain Tauren
were recruited into the Horde after Baine Bloodhoof mentioned them to Sylvanas during her hunt for allies to help replenish the Horde ranks.
Battle for Azeroth
The Battle for Lordaeron
During the
Battle for Lordaeron
, Baine Bloodhoof, being the honorable Tauren he is, was angry that Sylvanas left Saurfang behind. Sylvanas gave Baine the ultimatum of either going off on his own and dying to the Alliance or tending to the living, which led to Baine angrily saying "For the Horde" and exiting the throne room as blight poured through the city of Lordaeron.
Baine Bloodhoof
: You abandoned Saurfang to die out there!
Sylvanas Windrunner
: It is the death he wanted. If that troubles you, you're free to join him. Or you can tend to the living. The choice is yours.
Baine closes his eyes a moment, then glares for a moment at Sylvanas.
Baine Bloodhoof
: For the Horde.

After clearing the raid, we return to Nathanos for The King's Death. The situation looks grim--King Rastakhan is dead, Horde soldiers have been lost, and the Zandalari fleet is destroyed. We then visit King Rastkhan's grave, where all the citizens of Zandalar are gathered to pay respects.
Talanji: Thank you for coming. Zuldazar is still reeling from de Alliance attack. My people's faith has been shaken..and so has my own.
Baine: I too know the pain of losing a father. If there is anything I can do, please do not hesitate to ask.
Nathanos: You have seen firsthand the treachery of the Alliance. Let your grief be sated by vengeance against them.
Baine: This is not the time to speak of revenge, Blightcaller!
Nathanos: Enough! The Warchief has arrived.
Sylvanas does not seem that interested in paying respects, instead launching into her plans to revive
Derek Proudmoore ( The Return of Derek Proudmoore
) and use him to attack the Alliance leaders. The time for pleasantries is over as Nathanos reports the Alliance is near victory. Sylvanas is not interested in negotiations, instead of enacting her plan of revenge:
Nathanos: My queen...reports are coming in from all outposts. The Alliance is tightening its grip. Victory is within their grasp.
Baine: Perhaps we can open negotiations--
Sylvanas: The Alliance slays the leader of the Zandalari, and you speak of negotiations?
Sylvanas: No. This war will not end until we stand victorious. Until the Little Lion kneels before my throne.
Sylvanas: Meet me aboard the Banshee's Wail. I have a plan to ensure the Proudmoore family pays dearly for Rastakhan's death.
The Rise of Proudmoore
In Patch 8.1, after the loss of the Battle of Dazar'alor, we learn that Sylvanas has raised Derek Proudmoore from the dead to slay members of his family, presumably Jaina and her mother. Baine, still shocked and appalled by her actions after the burning of Teldrassil and the Battle for Lordaeron, expresses his concern and tells her she's gone too far.
Baine
: Sylvanas!
Baine
: What reason could you possibly have for this madness?!
Sylvanas
: Derek Proudmoore was a hero to the Kul Tirans.
Sylvanas
: And once his mind has been properly conditioned, we will allow the Proudmoores to recover their long-lost prince...
Baine: This is too far!
Sylvanas
: They are sure to stage a rescue attempt when they learn of his fate.
Sylvanas
: ... so he can slaughter them in their sleep.
Baine
: How many times must we forsake our honor?
Sylvanas
: There can be only victory or death for us, Baine.
Sylvanas
: And death is mine to master.
Baine Bloodhoof understands Sylvanas's actions are dishonorable, and makes his disagreement known to the player.
Baine:
"I cannot abide this, player. Each time I think Sylvanas has gone too far, she finds a new line to cross. I have watched her commit one dishonorable act after another.
She desecrates more than the memory of a fallen enemy. She desecrates the Horde itself.
This cannot stand. Something must be done. And soon."
Baine's Imprisonment
Showing further disgust to the Warchief's actions, Baine decides it is time to take action. While he sends Valeera Sanguinar to propose a meeting with the current Lord Admiral of Kul Tiras, Jaina Proudmoore (
拨乱反正
), him and Thomas Zelling hijack a forsaken ship and sail to Theramore to reunite Derek Proudmoore with his family (
苦涩的重聚
).
However, this plan does not escape Sylvanas' attention. The Banshee Queen proposes a meeting of all faction leaders in Warfang Hold, Stormsong Valley, and in there, she declares Baine a traitor to the Horde, imprisoning the tauren leader on the spot. Thomas Zelling was killed by Nathanos there, as well (
展示力量
). Most of the Horde leaders show distress with the situation.
Baine's Rescue
Thrall and Saurfang enact a rescue plan to save Baine, now chained up in the Underhold. Unbeknownst to them, Jaina and Master Mathias Shaw are also trying to rescue Baine, on orders from Anduin.
While Thrall, Saurfang, Jaina and Shaw venture deeper and eventually rescue Baine (
), Baine is worried that this is all a trap set by Sylvanas. They are all ambushed by the Sunreavers, and datamined 8.2 dialogue implies that even the successful rescue is part of Sylvanas' plan.
Following his rescue, Baine helps repel an attack by the spirits on Thunder Bluff, and reconnects with the spirits of his parents in the
Tauren Heritage Armor Quest
.
Rise of Azshara
With Patch 8.2.5, Baine fully supports the revoluting troops around Varok Saurfang. He stayed back in Thunderbluff not to only because of his wounds but also to protect his city against a potential counterattack by Sylvanas.
After the inevitable death of the Old Soldier in the mak’gora against Sylvanas, Baine mourns the death of Saurfang and emphasizes that the only way to unite the Horde is to carry on the legacy of Varok Saurfang.
Visions of N'Zoth
In Visions of N’Zoth, Baine manages problems within the Horde,
including the plea of the Vulpera to join the Horde as an Allied Race
.
Shadows Rising
After Sylvanas abandons the Horde, the decision is made to not elect a new Warcheif. Rather, a Horde Council is formed, with representatives from each race. Baine joins the Horde Council as leader of the Tauren.
When the Zandalari queen Talanji comes to the Horde Council seeking revenge against the Alliance and the Proudmoores for the death of her father, the Council are unable to give her what she asks for, as it would risk the newly signed armistice with the Alliance. Baine mentions that all members of the Horde have their own grievances, but that they need to be weighed against the interests of the Horde as a whole. Ultimately, the Horde Council agrees to support Talanji in her rule in Zandalar, but not in her desire for revenge.
Later, Thrall is approached by a shaman of the Earthern Ring, who brings him the troubling news that something seems wrong with the ancestors and the afterlife. Thrall arranges a meeting with the Night Elf leaders, Tyrande and Malfurion, in an attempt to discuss these tidings. He chooses Baine Bloodhoof to attend the meeting with him - as Baine despises Sylvanas, and is close with the Earth Mother - as well as Calia Menethil, as she has been working with Night Elf Undead to try help them find peace in their new existence. The meeting does not go well, as the Night Elves are still justifiably angry about Teldrassil. Thrall tries to point out that Baine never supported Sylvanas or her actions, spoke out against her and was even imprisoned by her, but it's still not quite enough. Baine remains silent for most of the meeting, but he eventually asks what the Night Elves would consider justice - would they only be satisfied if Thunderbluff or Orgrimmar burned? The meeting ends with Thrall understanding that Tyrande and Malfurion require the head of Sylvanas before any further talks.
When the Alliance discover evidence of Dark Ranger presence on Zandalar, Anduin sent a message to Baine, the only Horde member he unfailingly trusted, to ask if Sylvanas had been seen. Baine replied swiftly that there had been no sign of Sylvanas in Zandalar. Anduin and Jaina both feel they can trust Baine's reply, knowing that he hates Sylvanas as much as they do. Later, in a meeting between Thrall, Ji Firepaw, Anduin, and Jaina, Thrall reaffirms that the Horde has entirely parted from Sylvanas, and invokes Baine's name as a Horde leader who would not permit any sympathy or alliance with her.
When the Horde assists Talanji against rebel forces in her lands, Baine is one of the Horde leaders to bring troops to her aid. Baine fights at Thrall's side for much of the battle, and the Horde are victorious.
