Alleria Windrunner is the oldest of the Windrunner sisters. Once a Ranger-Captain of Silvermoon during the Second War, her life changed once she joined the Alliance Expedition to Draenor. Alleria was stranded in the Twisting Nether, fighting the Burning Legion alongside her lover, Turalyon, for a thousand years.
During this time, Alleria learned about the powers of the Void, and eventually mastered them during the Argus campaign, being reborn as the first Void Elf, or Ren'dorei. Following the final defeat of the Burning Legion, Alleria found other elves versed in the Void like her, and now she leads them, helping them control the whispers of the Void, in the name of the Alliance.
Early Life
Alleria Windrunner is the eldest child of Ranger-General Lireesa Windrunner, oldest sister to Lirath, Sylvanas and Vereesa Windrunner. As the oldest daughter of the Ranger-General of Quel'thalas, Alleria was expected to succeed her mother as Ranger-General, but Alleria never cared too much for the royal customs of the high elves.
Instead, she joined the Farstriders, a group of rangers dedicated to fighting threats all across Azeroth. Like the rest of the Windrunner family, Alleria was raised with military and hunting skills, and made a name for herself among the Farstriders after a number of victories achieved under her leadership. Alleria would go on and be recognized as a Ranger-Captain among the Farstriders.
One of Alleria's prized possessions was a necklace containing three gemstones, an Emerald, a Ruby and a Sapphire. This necklace was a gift from her parents, and she kept it intact until a mission changed her life forever.
Before World of Warcraft
Much of Alleria's lore can be read from books, until her actual return.
Tides of Darkness
When the Horde invaded Lordaeron for the first time, King Terenas Menethil II called upon the Farstriders requesting a debt to be paid in the name of Anduin Lothar, the King of Stormwind. The ruling council of Quel'thalas saw the Horde invasion as nothing more than a nuisance, and thus, a good chance to pay that debt, so they sent a small force of high elves to assist the Alliance of Lordaeron. Alleria actually believed the Horde posed a real threat, so she went off-record by guiding her group of rangers to Southshore to assist the Alliance of Lordaeron.
Alleria worked close with a mage, Khadgar, and a paladin, Turalyon, on her duty to expel the Orcs from Lordaeron. Upon learning that the Horde had reached and burned the borders of Quel'thalas, she returned to Silvermoon to aid in the defenses, and briefly reunited with her sister Sylvanas, and Farstriders comrades Halduron Brightwing and Lor'themar Theron. After Alleria's mother, Lireesa, was killed during the Horde invasion, Sylvanas Windrunner was named the new Ranger-General of Quel'thalas. However, Sylvanas entrusted the family's heirloom, an ancient bow named Thas'dorah, to Alleria, as Sylvanas believed the bow would be better used by Alleria on the frontlines.
With Lor'themar and Turalyon, Alleria went to Capital City, which was already under siege by the Horde. However, the Horde gave up conquering Capital City, and ran back south. Although they were successful in repelling the Horde invasion, one of the casualties was her brother, Lirath. Devastated by the loss of her brother, Alleria sought comfort in the arms of Turalyon, and eventually began a relationship with the Paladin. Although Alleria ultimately wanted revenge, she eventually became pregnant and gave birth to her son, a half-elf she decided to name Arator.
Beyond the Dark Portal
Alleria came to see the Orcs as little more than vermin that needed to be exterminated, much to the horror of Turalyon and their friends. On her pursuit for revenge against the Orcs, she landed into human territory with her team of hunters chasing the Bleeding Hollow, an Orcish clan that was trapped in Azeroth after the Second War.
Two years after the end of the Second War, Alleria was in the meeting that took place in Nethergarde Keep, where Khadgar announced that the Dark Portal was growing bigger, and the Alliance army was needed once more. Khadgar sent Alleria to warn Turalyon in Stormwind. Alleria reluctantly followed the order, as she had already given birth to Arator. When the Orcs rallied behind Ner'zhul, Alleria agreed to lead her rangers through the Dark Portal to put an end to the Horde and exact revenge for Quel'thalas.
Alleria then parted through the Dark Portal as part of the Sons of Lothar, leaving Arator behind. Before she parted, she had her necklace melted down into three pieces. She kept the Emerald piece for herself and sent the other pieces to her two sisters - Sylvanas received the Sapphire piece, and Vereesa received the Ruby piece.

On Draenor, Alleria finally realized that there was more to the Alliance Expedition than her thirst for revenge, Turalyon being the catalyst for her change in perspective. In a battle against the Orcs, Turalyon ordered Alleria to stay back while he rushed forward, and Alleria refused to let Turalyon charge towards his death, their relationship rekindled at that moment.
When Hellfire Citadel fell to the Alliance Expedition, Alleria sent her rangers to go with commanders Danath Trollbane, Kurdran Wildhammer, and Talthressar to pursue Ner'zhul. Alleria, Turalyon and Khadgar went on a different mission - Retrieve the Skull of Gul'dan, a powerful artifact that was in possession of Deathwing.
Alleria and Turalyon eventually helped Khadgar close the last Dark Portal with access to Azeroth. After this portal was closed, Draenor went through its own cataclysm, severing the way they had back home. Alleria, Turalyon, Khadgar and her surviving allies entered a portal to the Twisting Nether. Alleria and Turalyon ended up separated from their comrades, who managed to survive in the now ravaged land of Outland.
Alleria and Turalyon witness the destruction of Draenor from a far away point in the Twisting Nether.
Considering how dangerous this mission was, the Alliance Expedition that crossed the Dark Portal was presumed dead by those who stayed in Azeroth. They were honored by the Alliance, and monuments of Allleria, Turalyon, Khadgar, Kurdran and Trollbane were built and raised at the Valley of Heroes, the entrance gate to Stormwind.

A Thousand Years of War
Much of Alleria's story is told in the audiobook
A Thousand Years of War
, where we heaed perspectives from both Alleria and Turalyon after they were separated from the Alliance Expedition.
Joining the Army of the Light
Alleria and Turalyon, separated from the rest of the Alliance Expedition, ended up in an area of the Twisting Nether that was merging with Draenor, collapsing unto itself. They were found by Lothraxion, a Light Dreadlord that once served the Burning Legion, but was now part of the Army of the Light. Lothraxion announced that he was there to look for them, as they were fated to help fight the Burning Legion. Lothraxion also mentioned that the Burning Legion knew of their presence and sent an assassin after the couple, who was quickly dispatched by Alleria.
After the assassin was killed, the naaru Xe'ra appeared before them. Xe'ra announced that although the Burning Legion had failed to enter Azeroth during the Second War, they were working on invading the planet again, and close to succeeding. Alleria, eager for the chance to see Arator once more, pressed Xe'ra into bringing them back to Azeroth to help fight the Burning Legion there. Xe'ra told them that their aid would not be enough to stop the Burning Legion, but they would need to fight them elsewhere in the Twisting Nether, in the search for the Emerald Star, an artifact that would be capable of ending the Burning Legion threat.
Alleria and Turalyon accepted Xe'ra's request, and stepped through a portal invoked by the naaru, joining the Army of the Light. Arriving at Xe'ra's ship, the Xenedar, they began training under the Army of the Light. Turalyon passed his training and was infused by the Light, granting him immortality.
Alleria, during her training, managed to catch a glimpse of a ceremony the people of Stormwind were holding to the monuments of the Valley of Heroes, where she saw Sylvanas and Arator. Using some of her Light training, she sent positive emotions to Arator, who smiled and reached out to Alleria's monument.
Discovering the Void
Sometime after that, the Army of the Light raided a Legion prison world and discovered that the demons from that world were permanently dead due to the actions of the void. While exploring the planet, Alleria was attacked and had her first contact with the void, granting her visions. Thanks to those visions, Alleria became fascinated with the void, and asked Lothraxion, a former Burning Legion servant, to teach her everything he knew about it. It was during Lothraxion's lessons that Alleria learned about Locus-Walker, an ethereal who mastered the void, but still feared the grasp of such power.
Alleria was convinced that the visions granted by the Void would be a great ally to the Army of the Light against the Burning Legion, and she brought her wishes to find Locus-Walker and others like him to Xe'ra. Alleria expected resistance from the naaru, but was met with an ultimatum for her to forget all about the Void. Alleria reluctantly complied with the naaru's ultimatum, but never completely forgot her visions and beliefs.
The Burning Legion eventually invaded the shattered remains of Draenor, now named Outland. In Azeroth, 20 years had passed since Alleria and Turalyon entered the Dark Portal, but time flowed much faster in the Twisting Nether, Alleria and Turalyon being away for over 500 years from their perspective. Finally convinced that her visions were not mere coincidence, Alleria approached Xe'ra with a vision of herself waking up in the Legion homeland of Argus, claiming that was where the Emerald Star was. Xe'ra recognized that this is the best chance they had, and sent Alleria and Turalyon to discover the whereabouts of the Emerald Star.
Rendezvous in Argus
While traveling to Argus, Alleria admitted to Turalyon that her visions were not granted by the Light, but an entirely different source that Xe'ra was adamantly against. Turalyon replied that he did respect Xe'ra's wisdom, but he learned that Alleria's instincts were also very trustworthy, and welcomed any help they could get against the Burning Legion.
As the couple explored Argus, Alleria was struck by another vision, this time coming from the World-Soul itself: The Emerald Star was the artifact actually responsible for reviving the slain demons of the Burning Legion. Turalyon did not witness the vision, but he pledged Alleria to return to their transport, vowing to free the World-Soul from the Legion's influence. When they returned to their ship, they were surrounded by demons wanting to capture the couple.
Alleria and Turalyon did use the Light to strike down as many demons as they could, but they were being pushed back. Their defeat appeared nothing but certain, until Alleria called upon the powers of the Void, striking down all the demons and opening a shadow rift. Turalyon, now a being of the Light, felt excruciating pain as Alleria dragged him through the rift, landing them in a floating rock far into the Twisting Nether. Sad at what happened, Alleria tried to hug Turalyon, only for their hands to burn when they touched one another. Alleria told Turalyon to return to the Xenedar, and whatever she was, she was not his enemy. Turalyon cried as Alleria left him through another shadow rift.
The Locus-Walker's Lessons
Alleria was eventually captured by the Legion and sent to the prison world of Niskara, where she finally met Locus-Walker, a fellow prisoner. Locus-Walker told her that when he was captured by the Legion, they had destroyed the ethereal wrappings that contained its spirit body. After Locus-Walker teaches Alleria about the void, she uses her new skills to kill the demonic inquisitor torturing them, and Locus-Walker helped her escape from Niskara by opening a Void rift. During this escape, Alleria also let go of her family bow, Thas'dorah.
However, on the other side of the Void rift, there was nothing, only the Void itself. This was another one of Locus-Walker's lessons: Teaching Alleria to maintain her sanity while channeling the power of the Void. During this training, Locus-Walker delved into Alleria's memories, explaining to her the duality of Light and Shadow.
Locus-Walker explained how the Light could not see the entirety of destiny because it was not responsible for destiny alone; Shadow also could not see all of destiny. The Shadow would see the Light as nothing but horrors, and vice-versa, and neither of the elements were right or wrong. The Light would only see one path and treat it as the true path, shunning all other possible paths; The Void seeks all possible paths, treating all of them as truth. Through Locus-Walker's exhaustive training, Alleria was able to foresee events that both Light and Shadow were unable to see or conceive as truth.
Imprisoned in the Xenedar
Alleria also realized she might have been delving into the Void too soon, before her destiny demanded so. She saw a vision of Turalyon being attacked by an Eredar who wanted to steal his immortal soul, and she wanted Locus-Walker to let her go, but the ethereal refused, as her training was not done yet. When Locus-Walker refused, Alleria swiftly attacked him, forcing their lesson to be cut short, and Locus-Walker rebutted by calling Alleria a coward, mentioning he should have expected no less.
Locus-Walker, in fury, was gathering power to directly strike Alleria. But he stopped once he realized what was Alleria's vision, and laughing, she said she had made a very determined enemy. Alleria was not entirely sure if Locus-Walker meant himself or the Eredar. Locus-Walker decided to let Alleria go, believing she had a unique destiny to fulfill, believing they would meet again.
Alleria arrived at the scene and dispatched the Eredar assassin, but was unable to stop the Eredar's soulstone from draining Turalyon's soul. Channeling the powers of the Void, Alleria managed to remove the assassin's poison out of Lothraxion, saving Turalyon's soul and Lothraxion's life.
After saving their lives, Turalyon reluctantly told Alleria to leave, as Xe'ra would not accept her communion with the Void. Alleria, however, refused to leave, stating she knew exactly what would happen to her, and they arrived at the Xenedar. When Xe'ra arrived, Turalyon attempted to plead for mercy for Alleria, but Xe'ra did not want Alleria tainting the one true path the Light had seen. When Alleria refused to renounce the Void, she was imprisoned by Xe'ra.
World of Warcraft: Legion
On the expansion the adventurers directly faced the Burning Legion, Alleria also made her return.
Finding Thas'dorah
After years of failed research to discover Alleria's whereabouts, a clue was finally found: A demon was caught and tortured by the Farstriders, and revealed that Alleria was held captive in the Legion prison world of Niskara. Vereesa Windrunner decided to join forces with the Farstriders, forming a team to track down Alleria (
秘密行动
).
A Hunter adventurer, Vereesa and the Farstriders ventured into Niskara and managed to obtain Alleria's fabled weapon, the bow
萨斯多拉,风行者的遗产
, but they found no signs of Alleria anywhere within Niskara. Vereesa, a member of the Windrunner family, gives her blessing to the Hunter to wield Alleria's bow and use it directly in the fight against the Legion (
营救任务
). This has also renewed Vereesa's hope that Alleria was alive.
From the
狩猎传说
, the Hunter Order Hall research book:
Thas'dorah, Legacy of the Windrunners, Part Ten
When Thas'dorah was recovered from the Legion world of Niskara, it renewed hope that Alleria had survived the destruction of Draenor. Vereesa believed that her eldest sister had continued her war against evil by hunting the Burning Legion itself, pursuing it into the deepest recesses of the Twisting Nether.
Journey to Argus
An expedition from Azeroth made their way to the homeworld of Argus by using the newest Draenei spaceship,
维迪卡尔
. As the Vindicaar arrived into Argus, so did the Xenedar, the Army of the Light spaceship. As the Xenedar arrived to Argus, it was immediately shot down by the Burning Legion. Turalyon was one of the survivors of the crash, and he believed Alleria survived as well (
汇合
).
Alleria soon appeared, as the adventurer and Turalyon faced off against one of the lieutenants of the Burning Legion (
直击要害
). After rescuing the adventurer and Turalyon, Alleria commented that she had sensed that their son, Arator, also came to Argus with the Vindicaar. The couple then reunited with their son, now an adult, at the ship. Alleria swore she would never be separated from Arator again (
回到维迪卡尔
).
Alleria Windrunner says: Every day for a thousand years, I've thought about what I wanted to say to him. Now, though... words fail me.
High Exarch Turalyon says: I know, my love. I feel the same. But once we see our son, our hearts will speak for us.
---
Arator the Redeemer says: But... couldn't you have reached out to us? To your people? To me?
High Exarch Turalyon says: Arator... not a day passed that your mother and I didn't--
Alleria Windrunner says: Every choice we made was to keep you safe. It broke our hearts to be apart from you.
Aboard the Vindicaar, Alleria reunited with her sister Vereesa, and they talked about Sylvanas and her fate, now Warchief of the Horde. Alleria and Turalyon also reunited with Khadgar, who was also part of the Sons of Lothar, the conversation with the archmage being much more lighthearted.
Conversation with Vereesa:
Alleria Windrunner says: Impossible! I refuse to believe she now leads the Horde. Not after all they did to our people during the war.
Vereesa Windrunner says: There is more. I'm... I am not sure how to explain the rest. Or if this is even the time or place to--
Alleria Windrunner says: I must know, Vereesa. What fate befell our sister?
Vereesa Windrunner says: Give me a moment. I will do my best to explain...
Vereesa Windrunner says: Perhaps we had best discuss the matter in private.
Conversation with Khadgar:
Archmage Khadgar says: It is good to see you again, my friends. When I couldn't find you after the devastation of Draenor, I wasn't sure what to think.
High Exarch Turalyon says: We feared for you as well, Khadgar. But I think part of me knew it would take more than the explosion of a planet to slow you down.
Alleria Windrunner says: Kurdran and Danath are safe as well?
Archmage Khadgar says: Indeed, though I don't get to see them as often as I'd like. When this is all behind us, perhaps the Sons of Lothar should share a reunion feast!
High Exarch Turalyon says: I agree. It's been a long time, but as I recall it was your turn to buy the drinks, Khadgar.
Archmage Khadgar says: Well, I don't know about that...
Alleria Windrunner says: Definitely your turn. Never question an elf's memory... even after a thousand years.
Alleria also talks to the Huntmaster who is now wielding her bow, Thas'dorah, stating that she also blesses them to continue using the weapon.
Alleria Windrunner says: I would have words with you, Huntmaster.
Alleria Windrunner says: Vereesa told me you accompanied her on the mission to Niskara. That you risked your own life to rescue me, and prevented her from falling into the inquisitor's trap.
Alleria Windrunner says: It is clear you wield Thas'dorah with skill and finesse. You bring honor to the bow, and to the memory of those who carried it before you.
Alleria Windrunner says: There may come a day when I will have need of my family weapon once again. But for now, at least, I have a different path to follow.
Alleria Windrunner says: Hold Thas'dorah proudly, champion. Know that you have proven worthy of it.
Dominion Over the Void
When searching for the pieces that form the Crown of Knowledge, Velen and Turalyon found out that one of the pieces was within the Seat of the Triumvirate in Mac'Aree. Alleria told them that she had already scouted the area, and discovered the darkened naaru, Lu'ra, was being used by the Shadowguard, a group of void ethereals using the naaru's energies for their own sinister ends (
执政团之座
).
Alleria traveled to Mac'aree with an adventurer, and discover that the local krokul are being forcibly infused with the Void by the ethereals, despite the efforts of their leader, Arkhaan, to prevent that (
阿坎恩的祈祷
). As Arkhaan succumbs to the Void, Alleria runs into Locus-Walker, the void ethereal that taught her how to control the Void (
阿坎恩的危机
). As Alleria and Locus-Walker talked to each other, Locus-Walker admitted he was investigating the Shadowguard's activities in Mac'Aree, while also avoiding imprisonment by them (
虚空投影
).
After the Shadowguard's intentions were discovered, Locus-Walker was quick to interrogate Alleria about Turalyon, the fact that he was made one with the Light, and how Alleria possibly thought she could master the Void when the Light would shine so bright by her side. Alleria simply answered that there could be no Shadow without Light to cast it (
黑暗之源
).
Alleria Windrunner says: I need to finish what I started, Locus-Walker.
Locus-Walker says: Can you, though? With your... attachments?
Alleria Windrunner says: What are you talking about?
Locus-Walker says: Why, your mate of course. How does he feel about your choices?
---
Alleria Windrunner says: Turalyon trusts me to make hard decisions, and I him.
Locus-Walker says: I am not talking about trust.
Locus-Walker says: How can you expect to embrace the Shadow with the Light shining so brightly at your side?
Alleria Windrunner says: Without the Light there is no Shadow, teacher.
After the Shadowguard activity is halted, Locus-Walker gives Alleria another chance to earn mastery over the Void. He did it so by invoking a void remnant named Nhal'atoth, and told Alleria to fight him. While Alleria fought Nhal'thoth, the revenant swarmed her with visions of Arator and Turalyon, Locus-Walker telling her to focus on her training and her instincts. Alleria eventually overpowered the revenant and slain it. Locus-Walker retrieved its heart and gave it to Alleria, who consumed it. Locus-Walker was impressed, even mentioning that she had slain a Void demigod (
准备就绪
).
Alleria preparing to fight with the void revenant Nhal'thaloth.
Locus-Walker made its leave shortly after, telling Alleria that as long as she kept control of her mind, the Void was hers to control (
黑暗中的道标
).
The First Void Elf
Alleria and Locus-Walker would meet again sometime later, at the Seat of the Triumvirate. Alleria was sent there to retrieve the Crest of Knowledge, the final piece required for the Crown of Knowledge to be formed once more. Alleria finds Locus-Walker as they approached the naaru Lu'ra, now taken over by the void.
During the battle against Lu'ra, Locus-Walker instructs Alleria to use her Void powers to close the rifts being formed by the unstable naaru. After Lu'ra is defeated, Alleria absorbs Lu'ra's darkened essence, giving birth to the first Void Elf. After the Crest of Knowledge is obtained, Alleria leaves the Seat of the Triumvirate with Locus-Walker to test the limits of her new form (
执政团之座:知识桂冠
).
Sometime later, Alleria returns to the Vindicaar, and explains what happened with Lu'ra and her newfound powers, assuring the adventurer she is in control of her form, being able to activate Void form whenever she wants.
Alleria Windrunner says: As the naaru lay dying, L'ura's essence called to me. A being born of the Light hand turned to shadow.
Alleria Windrunner says: It was a familiar sensation.
Alleria Windrunner says: The transformation you witnessed is under my control, to be used when I see fit. I am the same person I was... and yet, something more.
Alleria Windrunner says: The use of such power makes some... uneasy. But shadow is a force to be harnessed, not feared.
Alleria Windrunner says: As with any weapon, one must maintain constant control when wielding it.
Return to Azeroth
After the victory against Sargeras and the Burning Legion in Argus, Alleria was longing to return to Azeroth and to hunt in the forests there once more. Her and Turalyon eventually ventured to the Valley of Heroes in Stormwind, seeing the monuments that were erected after them. Alleria then talked to Turalyon, mentioning that she thought she had died twice already - Once with the destruction of Draenor, and again when she absorbed Lu'ra, even going as far as thinking death was the true legacy of the Windrunners.
Alleria sighs, her brow furrowed.
High Exarch Turalyon says: It is unsettling to look upon these memorials to our passing.
Alleria Windrunner says: Indeed. Sometimes I feel that I have already died twice. Once when we were presumed lost on Draenor, and again when gripped by the shadow of the fallen naaru.
Alleria Windrunner says: Perhaps death is the true legacy of the Windrunners.
High Exarch Turalyon says: You're anxious. You hide it well... but I know you.
Alleria Windrunner says: Like no other, my love.
High Exarch Turalyon says: You don't have to go. You don't have to see her.
High Exarch Turalyon says: Each of you has a path to follow. If the Light wills that those paths intersect, they will. There's no need to force the hand of fate.
Alleria Windrunner says: It is time, Turalyon. I must see my homeland again with my own eyes... and hear from Sylvanas how she could ever wear the mantle of warchief.
Three Sisters Comic
Alleria's story as she returned to Azeroth and finally reunited with her sisters, including Sylvanas, is told in the comic
Three Sisters
.
As Alleria and Turalyon look over their monuments in Stormwind, Alleria is unable to hide her anxiousness at the prospect of meeting with Sylvanas, still baffled at how she could possibly go to the Horde and even become Warchief. She also wanted to see Quel'thalas one more time, before she turned to the Alliance for good. As Alleria was preparing to leave Turalyon for the fated encounter, we see a glimpse of the whispers of the Void, telling Alleria to prove her love by slaying Turalyon and "freeing him from the curse of the Light". Alleria resists the whispers like they are nothing.
Alleria easily resists the whispers telling her to kill Turalyon.
As Alleria arrives into their favorite place, so does Vereesa. The two sisters warmly greet each other, and Alleria tells Vereesa about her control over the Void, mentioning that her love for Turalyon and Arator serves as anchors to help her silence the voices. They both talk briefly about Arator, who was raised by Vereesa in Alleria's absence. Vereesa comments that Arator was a beacon in her life, and talks about how she almost fell into darkness by following Sylvanas' plan to poison Garrosh during his trial, her conscience stopping her before the deed was done. Alleria hopes that them reuniting in Eversong Woods could mean a new start for the three sisters.
As Alleria and Vereesa dance with other, Sylvanas arrives. Alleria is startled by Sylvanas' cold hands, and overwhelmed with whispers, warning her that Sylvanas served the true enemy and she needed to die there and now. Alleria once again ignores the whispers, and they ride to Ghostlands, Sylvanas showing the damage Arthas' crusade had done to the land.
The Void urges Alleria to murder Sylvanas and, in their words, save the world.
As the three sisters arrive to Ghostlands, they are attacked by members of the Scourge. Alleria and Sylvanas both commented on how each other's hunting skills had increased, improved by Alleria's long campaign against the Legion and Sylvanas' undeath. As they finish dispatching the Scourge, Sylvanas raises three skeletal horses, to serve as mounts for them on their way to Windrunner Spire.
As they ride, Sylvanas proposes them a game - Each sister has to make three statements, two truths and one lie, and they would need to reveal which one was the lie after they retook Windrunner Spire. The statements were:
Alleria: She missed both Sylvanas and Vereesa terribly. The Void is a tremendous gift. She has no regrets from stepping into the Dark Portal so long ago.
Vereesa: She believes the Blood Elves can be redeemed. She has made peace with losing Rhonin, her husband. She fears she will lose both Alleria and Sylvanas forever.
Sylvanas: Sometimes, she wishes she was still alive. She is proud to be Warchief of the Horde. She will never betray her sisters.
As Sylvanas finished her statement about betrayal, Alleria rebutted that she already betrayed Vereesa, manipulating her into poisoning Garrosh. Sylvanas talks back, saying that it was Vereesa's idea in the first place, and if maybe she did not hesitate, Garrosh would have been killed there, and the Legion would not have made their way back to Azeroth as a result. Sylvanas is enraged and turns into a banshee and Alleria, in an attempt to defend Vereesa, turns into her Void form. Both sisters almost get into a fight, with Alleria claiming the Sylvanas is loved is gone, and Sylvanas claiming Alleria had abandoned them and succumbed to the Void.
Alleria and Sylvanas lash out at each other, revealing their new forms.
Vereesa immediately stops their bickering, telling they both abandoned her, making her believe they were dead. Vereesa then told them the three had already lost so much, and they were about to lose each other. Alleria and Sylvanas both submit, Alleria wanting to rush to Windrunner Spire to learn the truths and lies of their previous game.
As they retake Windrunner Spire, it is time to reveal what they said in their previous game. Vereesa says that her lie was moving past Rhonin's death, seeing him every day in her two sons, and how much she envied Alleria's continued time with Turalyon. Alleria then mentions that she is still not sure whether their love can survive what they each had become, and she lied about the Void being a gift. The Void was not a gift, but a relentless struggle, one she manages to win every time. Sylvanas refuses to reveal her lie, saying they were done there.
Alleria accepts Sylvanas' statement, mentioned there was nothing for her anymore in Windrunner Spire and her family was broken, the parts she needed to care about waiting for her in Stormwind. Alleria abandons her Emerald necklace and uses a Void Rift to leave to Stormwind with Vereesa. As Alleria reunites with her family, the Void whispers once more, saying she wasted her chance at greatness and now Sylvanas would claim everyone she loves.
The Void expresses its disappointment at Alleria, as she returns
to her family in Stormwind.
Battle for Azeroth
Alleria becomes officially part of the Alliance in Battle for Azeroth, serving as the faction leader for the Void Elves, Blood Elves who were exiled from Silvermoon due to their studies of the Void.
Exile from Silvermoon
With the news of the Horde mining Azerite and preparing for an all-out war, King Anduin Wrynn was looking for possible new additions to the Alliance. Alleria wanted to try and bring the Blood Elves back to the Alliance, believing that if they actually had a chance to do so, they would defect from the Horde without a second thought.
Alleria traveled to Silvermoon and was granted an audience with the Regent-Lord and former Farstrider colleague, Lor'themar Theron. Alleria arrived not too long before First Arcanist Thalyssra of the Nightborne, who also looked to pursue an alliance with the Blood Elves (
银月城
). Alleria was introduced a hero of Silvermoon's past to Thalyssra and Lady Liadrin. Alleria offered for Silvermoon to join the Alliance again, the offer met with disdain by Lor'themar, who thought Alleria came to Silvermoon as an errand for Anduin, not for her love of her homeland.
The discussion between Alleria and Lor'themar quickly became sour. Alleria prepared to make her leave from Silvermoon, but she had one last request: she wanted to see the Sunwell, the Blood Elves' sacred site, one last time. Grand Magister Rommath tried to advise against it, but Lor'themar overruled the magister, claiming that Alleria had that right as a daughter of Quel'thalas.
Lor'themar Theron says: Please, call me Lor'themar. But where are my manners? Allow me to introduce another guest: Lady Alleria Windrunner, a hero of Silvermoon's past.
First Arcanist Thalyssra says: An unexpected honor, Lady Windrunner. Silgryn told me of your courage during the campaign on Argus.
Alleria Windrunner says: The honor is mine, First Arcanist. I do not mean to intrude upon your visit. Perhaps I should return another time.
Lor'themar Theron says: Nonsense. Whatever you came to say, you may say in front of our guests.
Alleria Windrunner says: As you wish. I come bearing an offer from High King Anduin Wr--
Lor'themar Theron says: I had hoped your visit was motivated by a love for Silvermoon. Instead, you come at the behest of the Alliance's boy-king. How disappointing.
Alleria Windrunner says: Cutting words, Lor'themar. Are they yours, I wonder, or has the dutiful ranger I knew become the mouthpiece of your warchief?
Lor'themar Theron says: You doubt my words, yet how can we trust your own? Do you deny that the lords of the Void whisper to you? Did you not surrender yourself to the shadows on Argus?
Alleria Windrunner says: I seems the offer I bring has been anticipated... and spurned. Very well. But before I leave, I have one request.
Alleria Windrunner says: It has been a thousand years since I set eyes upon the Sunwell. May I visit it once again?
Grand Magister Rommath says: I advise against it. We cannot trust that she will not--
Lor'themar Theron says: Whatever she has become, Alleria is a daughter of Quel'Thalas. I will not deny her pilgrimage to our most sacred site. First Arcanist, you and your retinue would be welcome to join us.
Alleria was awestruck by the purified Sunwell, noting that although it still looked as beautiful as ever, the energies were different from what she remembered. Lady Liadrin told her that the Light and the Arcane's combined might now serve as sustenance for the Sin'dorei. Alleria tried to approach the Sunwell, but as she did, it erupted with Void energies, calling forth beings from the Twisting Nether, including a Void horror who tried to use the Sunwell to open a portal to the Great Dark Beyond. Alleria, Rommath and Thalyssra combined their powers to defeat the Void enemies and close the rift they opened, saving the Sunwell.
Rommath blamed Alleria, believing she tried to corrupt the Sunwell on purpose, and ordered her imprisonment, but Lor'themar once again overruled him, instead deciding to exile Alleria from Silvermoon, believing that even as a prisoner would be dangerous to the stability of the Sunwell (
记住太阳之井的耻辱
).
First Arcanist Thalyssra says: The sense of power is palpable. As potent as the Nightwell, but of a different nature.
Lady Liadrin says: The Sunwell was corrupted by our enemies, but a naaru's sacrifice purified its waters. Now the essence of the Light sustains us.
Alleria Windrunner says: The Sunwell has changed... but its beauty remains. It has been so long.
---
Lor'themar Theron says: What is happening?
Grand Magister Rommath says: This is why I demanded that Umbric and his radicals be exiled. Anyone who treats with the Void is a danger to the Sunwell!
Alleria Windrunner says: I did not intend for my presence to...
Lor'themar Theron says: Enough! We need to cleanse this corruption before the well is lost!
---
Lor'themar Theron says: The Sunwell is secure. Your aid was invaluable, Thalyssra. And yours, champion.
Grand Magister Rommath says: Guards! Seize this saboteur.
Alleria Windrunner says: I will not be taken prisoner in my own homeland.
Lor'themar Theron: Enough! You will leave at once, Alleria. Accident or no, your presence poses a danger to Quel'Thalas. Go back to Stormwind. Silvermoon is no longer your home.
The Void Elf Exiles
Alleria returned to Stormwind, and told Anduin about the disastrous meeting, although she remembered Rommath mentioned someone called Magister Umbric, as someone who was also exiled for dabbling with the Void. Alleria and an Alliance adventurer then returned to Quel'thalas to find more about Umbric, both as an act of empathy for Alleria's possible brothers in the Void and as another attempt to bring strong allies to the Alliance.
Alleria and the adventurer arrived in the Ghostlands, and after much reflection about what happened there thanks to the scourge, Alleria tracked down a trail of evidence left by Magister Umbric: A Silvermoon scholar who developed great interest into researching the Void. Alleria managed to track echoes of Umbric's involvement with the Void, from his clash with Rommath, which earned him exile from Silvermoon, to the discovery of a Void world that contained an item that could grant mastery over the Shadows. After reading about this world, Alleria believed she knew which place Umbric was talked about, and she opened a rift to the shattered world of Telogrus (
幽魂之地
).
Arriving in Telogrus Rift, Alleria met with Magister Umbric, who had learned of her dominion over the Void. Umbric warmly welcomed Alleria, who felt kinship for the exile, but warned him to not be too eager to embrace the Void, as it comes with a hefty price.
Alleria Windrunner says: Magister Umbric! I am Alleria Windrunner.
Magister Umbric says: Alleria Windrunner!? How did... My, what an unexpected honor!
Magister Umbric says: My people and I heard tales of what transpired on Argus. As you might imagine, we have a keen interest in your interaction with the darkened naaru.
Alleria Windrunner says: Another time, perhaps. This champion and I have been searching for you. We know of your exile from Silvermoon and felt we shared common ground.
Magister Umbric says: Indeed! Like you, we believe the void can be used to defend life rather than consume it. We have made great progress, Lady Windrunner, but many mysteries remain.
Magister Umbric says: Take this cube, for instance. It is an ancient device, perhaps even predating life on Azeroth. It seems to have been locked, and we cannot yet open it.
Alleria Windrunner says: Careful, Umbric. Answers to such mysteries often come at a price.
Umbric walked with Alleria through Telogrus Rift, revealing the item he had sought on his research: a Void storm. They began a ritual to discover more about the storm, but they were interrupted by a void ethereal, Nether-Prince Durzaan, the same corrupted ethereal who attacked the Sunwell when Alleria was there. Durzaan began a ritual to strip the Blood Elves of their mortality and make them succumb to the Void, but Alleria engaged in vicious battle with Durzaan. Durzaan also attempted to tempt Alleria into giving it in, but she refused, and defeated Durzaan.
However, Durzaan's ritual was partially completed - Magister Umbric and the other exiled elves were transformed by the Void, their skin and hair became dark, their voices more lower-pitched. Umbric, altered by the Void, thanked Alleria for her help with his research and saving the elves from going mad with the Void. Alleria offered to help the new elves, calling themselves Ren'dorei, to control the whispers of the Void, fighting for the Alliance in exchange. Umbric stated that Silvermoon had turned their backs on them a long time ago, and eagerly accepted the offer (
泰洛古斯裂隙
).
Magister Umbric says: Alleria... <Player>... My people are free, but we have been... changed. And the voices...
Alleria Windrunner says: Durzaan tried to tear away your mortality. To make you like him--a slave to his hunger.
Alleria Windrunner says: But your fate is still your own, Umbric. I can teach you to quiet the whispers. To make the shadows serve you, instead of serving them.
Magister Umbric says: My arrogance was nearly our undoing. I dabbled with powers far beyond my control. If you will train us, Alleria. We will follow where you lead.
Alleria Windrunner says: I sense the powers at your command. They are... considerable. You would make valuable allies of the Alliance.
Magister Umbric says: Silvermoon turned its back on us long ago. Today we are reborn... and it is fitting that we walk a new path. From this day forth, the Alliance has our loyalty.
Alleria Windrunner says: And in turn, I pledge to aid you on your journey. <Player> and I will inform High King Wrynn of this news. Then I will return, so that we can begin your training.
Magister Umbric says: It will take some time for us to adjust to our new forms. We look forward to your return, Lady Windrunner. And <name>, you have our deepest thanks.
Alleria, triumphant in her mission to bring in new allies, returned to Stormwind and told the good news to Anduin. Telogrus Rift was stabilized and became the capital city of the Void Elves, with Alleria acting as their leader. Locus-Walker eventually found Telogrus Rift and made his home there as well, serving as a teacher to newly converted elves, as well as researching into the Void storm.
Battle for Lordaeron
Alleria and the Void Elves helped with the Alliance offensive at the Battle for Lordaeron. Working together with the leader of the gnomes, Gelbin Mekkatorque, she helped transport heavy gnome machinery like their spider tanks thanks to the power of the void rifts. Alleria and Mekkatorque's timely intervention saved the Alliance from an ambush from the Forsaken army in the heart of Lordaeron.
Alleria and the Void Elves teleport the Gnomish machinery right into the Ruins of Lordaeron.
During the final showdown between the Alliance leaders and Sylvanas, when Sylvanas is cornered at the throne room of Lordaeron, Alleria mentions she regrets not killing Sylvanas when she had the chance during their meeting (
洛丹伦之战
).
Campaign in Kul Tiras and Zandalar
Alleria was sent as one of the Alliance commanders to Kul Tiras and currently serves as their Order Advancement NPC, riding atop the Wind's Redemption boat in Boralus.
During one of the chapters of the War Campaign, when Halford Wyrmbane and Shandris Feathermoon were having disagreements on what would be their next target in Zandalar, she appears in the middle of the conversation, offering her Void Elf reinforcements to pick up one of their targets for them (
下一个目标
).
Halford Wyrmbane says: We will deal with Blood Prince Dreven soon, General. But this is a rare opportunity to cripple the Horde's military. Everything else must wait.
Shandris Feathermoon says: We can kill that gluttonous goblin any day! If Dreven escapes, we may never find him again.
Halford Wyrmbane says: Gallywix funds the Horde's war campaign and understands Azerite better than any of their other leaders.
Halford Wyrmbane says: Tactically speaking, he is their weak link. This is a rare opportunity. We must strike now.
Shandris Feathermoon says: I saw what Dreven was capable of, Wyrmbane. What if there are more like him?
Alleria Windrunner says: Forgive my interruption, but I believe you are both right.
Alleria Windrunner says: We cannot afford to allow either of these targets to escape us... and we do not need to.
Alleria opens a void portal behind her.
Alleria Windrunner says: My void elf forces can lead the effort to eliminate Gallywix.
Alleria Windrunner says: We will hunt him down and bring you his head. Shandris can focus on tracking that Blood Prince.
Halford Wyrmbane says: A wise strategy. I approve.
Shandris Feathermoon says: Thank you, Alleria. Your aid is most welcome.
With the leadership of Alleria, and field action led by Umbric, Alleria and the Void Elves prove to be invaluable allies during the War Campaign in Zandalar, with Void Rifts being used in multiple opportunities to dispatch of heavy machinery (
虚空对策
), quickly send enemies into the Void (
虚空度假
) and even serve as a gateway for multiple people when combined with the powerful Arcane magics of Jaina Proudmoore (
劫掠珍宝间
).
Visions of N’Zoth
Alleria is part of the scenario Vision of Stormwind, an evil version of the Alliance capital twisted by N’Zoth.
At the beginning of the vision, Alleria - overtaken by void and the Old God himself - tries to kill her son Arator:
Arator the Redeemer yells: Mother... do not listen to the whispers!
Alleria Windrunner yells: I have ignored them for too long. They speak the truth, Arator. And you will hear them. I will make you hear them.
Arator the Redeemer yells: No! I will never--aah!
Alleria Windrunner yells: The Light could not save them, and it will not save you!
"Shadows Rising" and Shadowlands
In Shadows Rising, the pre-expansion novel by Madeleine Roux, Alleria and Turalyon are ordered by Anduin to find Sylvanas - who has abandoned the Horde and disappeared. Anduin is surprised and disappointed when she returns with no leads. Of all the Alliance, Alleria knows Sylvanas best and was their greatest hope.
Around this time, Anduin reflects on the fact that, while they still faced N'Zoth, Alleria came to him, suggesting Sylvanas would be the right choice to face N'Zoth. Anduin refused the request, and the fact that Alleria even asked it still bothers him. He's also bothered by Alleria's connection to the Void, and feels doubt about trusting her loyalty. This combined momentarily makes him wonder if Alleria really has been defeated by Sylvanas, or if she's lying - but he ultimately decides that Alleria has proven she can be trusted.
Soon after, the Alliance receive information that Dark Rangers could be in Zandalar. Some of their scouts turn up dead, killed by arrows very similar to Dark Ranger arrows. Not wanting to risk the armistice by sending Alliance forces into Zandalar, Anduin sends Alleria and Turalyon to investigate.
On their journey, Turalyon and Alleria slept in separate tents, but the affection between them remains strong. Alleria falls asleep in her saddle, and has a nightmare about Sylvanas killing her, her son, and her husband, while the Void still taunts her, encouraging her to give herself over entirely to darkness in exchange for power. Turalyon wakes her, and it's shown that he can still touch her - providing she's not in her Void form and he's not in his Light form. Alleria reflects on the fact that Turalyon can see the darkness in her, but he accepts it. While many would consider their relationship impossible, their love is enduring.
Turalyon and Alleria's scouts have brought them news of a group of Horde refugees in the Arathi Highlands, impoverished and homeless after the war. The refugees have been seen with a cloaked and red-eyed woman that sounds very much like a Dark Ranger. When Turalyon wants to take a break, concerned about their exhausted soldiers, and Alleria's own clear exhaustion, Alleria refuses to stop, insisting that they catch up with the refugees first.
Once they track the refugees down, Alleria promises them that none of them will be hurt as long as they provide her and Turalyon with the answers they require. However, the refugees refuse to talk. A small Orc child even dashes at her and Turalyon, roaring defiance. As Turalyon stops the child, his mother begs that they spare him. Alleria crouches down and looks in the boy's eyes, telling him that she will say to him what she said to her own son when he wanted to play soldier:
“Whatever your elders have told you, war is not glory. War is seeing people at their very worst and choosing to protect them anyway. Go back to your mother, and do not forget what I told you.”
Alleria's connection with the Void helps her to identify that the Orc's mother has the information they need. She would be able to rip the information out of the Orc with her Void powers, but she allowed Turalyon to question the Orc first - to give her a chance to provide the information without them having to resort to torture. Turalyon tries and fails to question the Orc, only learning her name - Gowzis - but he's still hesitant to let Alleria use her Void powers, worrying that using torture would mean they are at their worst. Under different circumstances, Alleria would agree, but she points out that Sylvanas has outsmarted, outplayed, and outwitted them because she's not shacked by good or evil, and will pursue her mission no matter the cost. Turalyon asks her if she admires her sister, but Alleria replies that there is nothing left to admire. However, they do need the information, and Turalyon eventually agrees, "whatever the cost".
Turalyon restricts Gowzis with light shackles while Alleria assaults her mind with the Void. The experience is unpleasant - Alleria can feel the Orc's agony, knowing it would haunt her forever, but also that that was the cost. Alleria saw a memory in Gowzis's mind of an undead Night Elf, raised by Sylvanas after Teldrassil was burned. This would be the Dark Ranger.
The sight of Gowzis in such pain shocks the leader of the refugees, a Forsaken named Apothecary Cotley, and he agrees to tell them the information they want. Cotley tells Alleria and Turalyon that the Dark Ranger has chartered a boat at Faldir's Cove, and that her name is Visrynn. Alleria feels pangs of guilt again over the Orc mother, knowing her mind would be scarred forever by what she had done, but she represses the guilt, telling herself that she has no room left for regrets. Having obtained the information they came to get, Alleria gives the orders to provide the refugees with food, water, and blankets, and for the Forsaken Cotley to be taken to Stormwind as a prisoner.
After some time, Anduin worried at the apparent lack of progress from Alleria and Turalyon, and sent Jaina to check on them. Jaina found the two interrogating a human man the same way they did the Orc Gowzis - Alleria searching his mind with the Void while Turalyon kept him chained with the Light. Jaina was shocked by these methods. Alleria, who seems excited by what she's discovered in the human's mind, explains that Anduin was quite clear - they were told to use whatever methods they had to in order to get this information. Turalyon takes the time to try mollify Jaina further, but Alleria is impatient by the delay. When Jaina mentions that she will be reporting what she's seen to Anduin, Alleria challenges her, asking if "tattling" really is their highest priority.
When Jaina reports the way that Alleria and Turalyon were torturing the smuggler to Anduin, she's surprised to find he supports their methods. Anduin tells Jaina that difficult decisions have to be made, and he trusts Alleria and Turalyon enough to know the line and to not cross it.
With the information Alleria and Turalyon uncovered in the Arathi Highlands, Mathias Shaw, leader of the Alliance's secret police, journeys to Zandalar to discover more. Later, Alleria and Turalyon attend a dinner hosted by the Proudmoores in Tiragarde Sound. Alleria eats very little and speaks even less, and Jaina finds herself wondering if Alleria can be trusted - wondering just how much the Void has taken hold of her. The meeting is interrupted by Flynn Fairwind, a former pirate captain that journeyed with Mathias, who brings the news that Mathias has been captured by Zandalari forces. He brings documents that were found in Zandalar, and Alleria examines them. The documents are written in Thalassian - language of the High and Blood Elves. As the Trolls would unlikely communicate in this language, Alleria considers this important evidence that Dark Rangers are, indeed, in Zandalar. She flips through the documents and translates them - stating that they're notes on the region, troop movements, patrol routes, and similar. Alleria announces that she will take the documents to Anduin and that they will need to act quickly, and is shocked when Jaina says no.
Alleria challenges Jaina angrily, asking if she doesn't think time is of the essence. While she's confronting Jaina, her voice changes and she becomes a little more Voidlike - scaring Jaina's mother. Jaina, however, refuses to lose her own temper, and is able to calm Alleria, appealing to her to think about the recently signed armistice between the Alliance and Horde. Ultimately, the Alliance continue to act with caution.
Later, it is shown that Anduin worries about Alleria and Turalyon, among his other concerns.

Very nice story. Thank you very much!
But torturing people with light and void powers sounds really badass... I hope Anduin will make a right decision...
