Hello, Durendil here. With BFA well underway, I've decided to update my soloing guide for any hunter out there who wants to face challenges alone with their trusty pet. This guide will mainly focus on Beast Mastery, but many points are not specific to a specialization - the soloing specs have changed expansion by expansion. I'll cover both the basics and advanced tactics, with example from the current expansion.
Current state of hunter soloing
To give an idea of the hunter potential, here is the progress of hunter soloers in BFA so far.
To give a comparison, Mythic Archimonde (last boss of WOD) was killed with 900 ilvl - which would be equivalent to killing Argus Mythic with 400 ilvl. 400 ilvl could be enough for Argus Heroic, but definitely not Mythic, so Legion raids should resist longer.
As of this moment the first kills in raids are mostly made by
Durendil
and
Shoot
. The name in the table corresponds to the first soloer to down the boss. If I've missed anything please correct me.
For the dungeons, I'm using
myself
as a basis, and only focus on mythic(+) solos (normal was cleared months ago). As always, don't hesitate to notify me in the comment if I missed a solo from another hunter. Or go for it yourself!
Shoot has recently retired, leaving me alone. Honestly, soloing is fun, do not hesitate to try it.

General principles
Hunters are well balanced when it comes to soloing due to our many tools, good resistance with our pets and high damage.
If you have questions pertaining soloing in general and not hunter soloing, the
Overview of soloing
contains general principles and tips, but is not required for reading this guide.
The short version is:
Soloing easy dungeons or raids for profit is fun, extreme soloing is even more fun!
The soloing community is spread out, but you can still contribute.
When soloing, analyzing the mechanics is key. Timings, combos and trigger conditions are usually more complex then they seem at first glance.
Soloing is a mix of survival and damage.
Making use of every tool you have including talents, gear, consumables, azerite and more is the key to getting a kill.
To detail the "mix of survival and damage" point, the objective of a solo is to kill your target, not rank on logs. Many enemies have a damage requirement due to a
狂暴
or having to kill them before running out of defensive cooldowns. Maximising damage while dealing with the boss's abilities makes a solo easier and sometimes is required for a kill. However, if you take too much damage you will die, so you must also aim to have enough regen and avoid abilities when you can, despite losing dps. Hence the importance of finding the right balance for a boss.
What has changed in BFA
If you were used to soloing in Legion, BFA has some changes:
Pets have changed a lot mechanically, I believe for the better
Pets have better aggro and regen, at the tradeoff of health - their survival is up against low/moderate damage but they are far more fragile against high incoming damage
Azerite has replaced legendaries, but during solo the two systems have a lot in common
Pet and self healing are no longer only affected by your total health, but by your ilvl/attack power/damage too
Comparatively, Legion is harder to solo now than WoD was in Legion, and Mythic dungeons are way harder this expansion than in Legion
Other than that consumables, talents and other details have changed

Spec
Before soloing, you will want to choose a spec.
Beast mastery
: the best for soloing for several reasons. It has the most durable pets (exotic), which is very important for pet tanking, and best survival with the spirit beast. Pets also do much of its dps, so they hold aggro far better. They have absolute mobility and no casting. This guide will consider you are familiar with the hunter class and beast mastery in particular, although it will contain a lot of hunter information not restricted to a single spec.
If you want a guide on BM hunters, you can find guides on
Wowhead
and
Icy Veins
.
Marksmanship
: it can have niche uses - it benefits more from leech and has more range. It can be used if pet survival isn't an issue, although if aggro needs to be kept you might be forced to slow down dps a bit at the start and after a pet rez -
Glyph of Misdirection
is no longer a thing.
Survival
: being stuck in melee removes a lot of soloing advantages from the hunter, and if the pet dies it can cause issues (the one-shot crit from boss kind of issue). Also, a melee needs 110% aggro and not 130% to take aggro. I do not know the spec well enough to know its upsides, but I suppose it could work if the pet keeps aggro and doesn't die.
Pets and Tanking
Unless things go horribly wrong, you usually want your pet to take the melee hits from the boss. Melee hits are usually the first source of damage by far in a fight. Your pet is like your party tank, but you're in full control. It goes without saying that pet management is paramount for soloing, you can't just forget about your pet as you do in raids.
In an easy setting, pet tanking consists of using
误导
on your pet and doing the normal rotation, adding
治疗宠物
when needed. Of course, difficult bosses aren't that easy. For this section, we'll start off by ignoring abilities specific to a pet family or spec, and then we'll see how those can complete pet tanking.
More importantly, a considerable amount of choices - gear, talents - take pet tanking and the hunter/pet interaction in consideration.
Pet survival
In order to have your pet survive, you must manage its health. First things first: pets inherit part of your stats, so versatility, leech, armor, and others function the same as they would on your hunter.
The main source of healing coming from the hunter is percentage-based.
治疗宠物
heals 7% health per 2 seconds, and you want to use it as part of your rotation. If you can afford it, use it when you are focus starved or when you would use
眼镜蛇射击
or
多重射击
, but not at max focus or during burst. If pet survival is tight, it can take priority over other abilities.
意气风发
is a lay on hands for the pet, giving it a second health bar. Make sure to use it before it dies or it will be wasted - pet health yoyos a lot more this expansion so it's easy to use it right as your pet dies if you're not careful.
Since about half of the healing a pet takes is dependent on his health and the other half on it's damage or AP, its resistance is very dependent on gear.
Finally, pets have a decent dodge chance (around 10%), which helps with survival but makes incoming damage harder to predict..
If your pet dies, it is time to revive it. The objective here is to avoid getting a melee hit, especially since it can crit. However if you're taking low damage on your hunter taking a few hits for your pet can be a valid strategy.
Your tool is
复活宠物
. Two seconds cast, affected by haste. It completely heals your pet, so sometimes timing your pets death is a valid strategy. You will have to
假死
before the rez, or after.
After: if you can, take your distance. Against stunnable mobs, stunning them while you rez is a good option.
逃脱
can help you get away. You can also rez while the boss is casting. If all else fails,
灵龟守护
can buy you time.
Before: only works if the boss has other targets, such as an animal companion or dire beast. While he hits his other target you can revive the pet and send it back. Note that this will probably result in a dead secondary target, making you lose dps. Whatever the situation, having your pet die will usually cost dps.
Aggro management
A BM hunter usually generates a little more aggro than his pet, but in BFA once your pet has grabbed aggro the only time you can take it back is during a burst. As such, using
误导
is enough in most situations, and if you grab aggro
假死
should work. Remember that you need 110% aggro in melee and 130% in range to take aggro, so if you are high do not come near the boss.
When soloing a dungeon, if there is any difficulty, do not pull several trash without
误导
, or it will get hectic.
Of course, this is a moot point if
低吼
works. But the vast majority of minibosses, dungeon bosses, and raid bosses are immune to it.
If you want your pet to lose aggro, you can use
解散宠物
or
装死
.
凶暴野兽
is another possible tanking tool. If you haven't generated aggro, or the boss is static, it can soak a few hits.
Pet Commands and Movement
Pets have 6 commands. The first is attack (/petattack), that will make it attack your target. If he is in assist mode (/petassist) or defensive (/petdefensive), if a target dies he'll switch to the next. If in passive mode (/petpassive) he'll run back to you.
To move your pet, you can use move to (/petmoveto) but it can be a bit wonkish. You can also use stay (/petstay) to make him stay in place. In both cases, putting the pet in passive will make him go back to his assigned spot. The easiest way to move your pet where you want, however, remains putting it on passive (or reclicking passive if he's already in it) in order to make him follow you while you move your character to the desired spot.
Pet spec and family
Spec
Depending on the situation, you will want to use different pet specs. All specs have one passive aura and one active ability.
Cunning
Ferocity
Tenacity
Aura
寻路
掠食者的渴望
耐力训练
Active
主人的召唤
原始暴怒
优胜劣汰
As far as active abilities go, they are very niche, so they seldom factor in consideration when choosing your pet:
主人的召唤
is redundant with
迅疾如风
, and few fights have roots in general, so it's barely ever used.
优胜劣汰
is a defensive cooldown, but so weak it seldom has any effect.
原始暴怒
is used a lot more but you do not need a ferocity pet - you can use it at the start of a fight (while dismissing the pet, before summoning another one and pulling) or use a
drum
.
The passive abilities are very important though:
The speed increase is extremely niche in extreme soloing, mostly because it is the only passive that doesn't increase pet or hunter survival. It is nice when farming old dungeons with no survivability issues. In short, it is a luxury.
The leech is very powerful, healing both pet and hunter for a substantial amount (we'll talk numbers below). It's by far the best in soloing. It scales with damage, so in AoE situations it shines even more but when you can't deal damage you don't get healing. However, one major issue right now is that leech procs on the pet by chunks of 5 seconds - so if it dies before it won't be healed.
The extra health is nice but barely helps hunter survivability. However it noticeably increases the pet's health and healing taken - it's at best 1/3 as strong as leech though.
Before talking numbers, let's talk about pet abilities. The full list can be found in
a guide made by BananaStalker
, but in soloing there are two best pets. They are the Clefthoof and Spirit Beasts.
The
裂蹄牛
is the best ferocity pet because he has a defensive with
厚皮
and also takes 10% less
physical
damage and gets 20% more heal from leech (not percentage-based heals) thanks to
犀牛之血
. He's the most durable overall pet.
The
灵魂兽
is a tenacity pet but has access to the very strong
灵魂治愈
. Therefore, if used on cooldown it offers the best hunter self-healing and can nearly compete with ferocity pets in terms of self-heal. However it lacks a defensive, and if forced to use its heal on the hunter its survivability is greatly reduced.
As such, most of your soloing will be a choice between these two. From experience, I usually use them 50/50 - Clefthoof if its sufficient or if a Spirit beast can't survive, Spirit beast if I need more self heal or there are too many moment where the pet can't rely on leech (kiting, out of range, stuns).
If you want more numeric details, clic below:
Here lies math
Now let's talk math. We are using
野兽守护
. Note that pets are affected by double dipping: for example tenacity pet increases hunter health, which increases pet health, and also increases pet health, and once all the math happens tenacity pets have 24% more health than ferocity pets. It's why the passives are strong. Also, we are in single target, with mend pet permanently up, and dps is normal.
意气风发
has a 1min30 actual cooldown thanks to
自然治愈
.
In terms of testing, based on experience, math and logs
(example)
, the math is
roughly
as follows.
Pet survival:
The clefthoof's leech heals at least for 75% of the amount offered by
治疗宠物
. The spirit beast takes 25% more healing from mend pet and its
灵魂治愈
heals for 50% of said mend pet to a total of 87% more healing. So it has slightly better regen than the clefthoof - what makes it weaker is the lack of damage reduction and defensive cooldown in high-damage situations. Also this is considering it spams its heal on itself.
Note that in AoE situation Clefthoof pet healing skyrockets, but as said before if dps drops healing drops too.
Hunter survival:
With leech, with my own specs on hounds of sargeras: 14K5 dps (dps is usually lower in solo than raids) and 152k health (unbuffed). The hunter deals 45% of total damage, that's about 980/sec per second through leech - but mend pet also triggers leech, so add 570/sec. And so does
意气风发
which heals for an extra 10,5% of your health - add 680/sec (with 1min30 cd). That is a total of 2230 hps.
With spirit beast,
意气风发
heals for 7,5% more, so 630/sec. There is no leech, instead
灵魂治愈
heals for 75K, so 2500/sec. That is a total of 3130 hps, so 40% more.
Note that azerite traits can heal for up to 2000 hps (in total, BiS traits, not counting crits), so it slightly reduces the gap.
Finally, not all other pets are bad just because they are suboptimal - for example, I enjoy using a
熔岩犬
on trash and island expeditions because its
黑曜石之肤
is a short and very reactive defensive. I really miss my turtle though, it seems strange but Tenacity pets are just bad at tanking now without a powerful heal.
Your Character
Before attempting to solo, you have to prepare your character. When it comes to soloing, the more tools you have the better. And when it comes to utility, there is a difference between overall good talent and those that are very powerful in niche situations.
Talents
Let's check the hunter talents. Although there is a "best build" for most situations, don't forget talents because they are niche. We'll start with the default talent tree then analyze the talents. I will not be focusing on dps unless a talent truly underperforms.
The default build for soloing is the following one:
Before reading all the talents, there are a few considerations to take in:
Due to the way leech works, talents that increase pet damage or hunter damage can also affect their survival
The more you fill your action bar, the more you risk delaying casts if you need to weave in mend pet in the rotation
Level 15 talents:
杀手本能
: The best overall talent. Usually, bosses are more difficult near the end, so an execute is handy. However less optimal if the difficulty of a boss lies at the start.
动物伙伴
: If your pet dies, the companion can tank for a bit. But that's all it can do - it is extremely buggy and disappears for a long time as soon as you rez or change pets, to the point it can be a dps loss compared to having no talent selected. Also, it reduces your main pet damage by 40%, so do not use it if you rely on leech. Last thing to note, if you can not attack (no kill commands) and your pet need to solo something on it's own, this talent is a dps loss (about 20%).
凶暴野兽
: Good if you're trying to maximise dps before 35%. Can also take 2-3 hits if needed.
Level 30 talents:
血之气息
: Suboptimal dps, no known use in soloing.
兽行成群
: A noticeable dps loss compared to chimaera shot, but is not part of your rotation and increases pet damage.
奇美拉射击
: The overall best one, the cleave and extra focus can be useful too.
Level 45 talents:
开拓者
: Great for clearing easy dungeons or raids. Also has niche uses in fights where you need to run a lot without attacking - for example, Soulbound Goliath where you need to run 100 yards away (
灵魂荆棘
) then come back to heal your pet.
自然治愈
: Usually the best talent by default - it slightly increases self-heal, and in many fights it's either unnecessary or not enough, but can make an impact in difficult but not impossible fights.
伪装
: Great for skipping trash in dungeons or regenerating between pulls. No use in combat.
Level 60 talents:
喷毒眼镜蛇
: Suboptimal dps, no known use in soloing.
狩猎刺激
: Suboptimal dps, and doesn't increase pet dps due to a bug. It's not bad, but AMOC is far better.
夺命黑鸦
: A great talent, even in single target. In situations with adds this talent is even better if you manage to get the reset.
Level 75 talents:
天生狂野
: Niche uses if you really need that faster immunity.
迅疾如风
: Overall great talent due to the mobility, and its root/slow removal is often useful, not to mention dispelled abilities are sometimes also DoTs.
束缚射击
: Niche, especially since bosses and some adds cannot be rooted.
Level 90 talents:
践踏
: Default talent, and the best for dps.
弹幕射击
: Not easy to use, and not always great for dps, but against spread out adds it isn't weak by any means.
群兽奔腾
: Niche, it's a dps loss even in short fights but if you really need burst it does some serious damage on cooldown.
Level 100 talents:
野兽守护
: Mandatory. It increases the power of passives, which is important for pet and hunter survival, and the damage from your pets, and also the healing from
灵魂治愈
.
杀戮眼镜蛇
: Suboptimal dps, no known use in soloing.
喷毒眼镜蛇
: Suboptimal dps, no known use in soloing.
Race
The race of your character can affect its soloing possibilities. I separate the racial traits in two categories : performance enhancers that act similar to gear increases, and utility abilities that give hunters another tool to work with. Since all races have passives that increase or decrease something by 1% or 2% I won't be mentioning those, nor will I mention minor dps abilities such as bursts.
人类
:
生存意志
allows you to get rid of a stun or CC - useful on a fair number of bosses.
兽人
:
坚韧
can have niche uses.
玛格汉兽人
:
同步活力
is very strong, and
狂野之血
can have niche uses.
矮人
:
石像形态
is niche but can be worth a lot on certain specific bosses. Compared to
净化药水
, it also dispels Magic and Bleed effects. It makes certain impossible solos possible.
黑铁矮人
: see above for
烈焰之血
,
钻探机
is also nice for farming.
暗夜精灵
:
影遁
is similar to an extra
假死
. However extensive testing would be needed to check if it works in situations where
假死
doesn't.
虚空精灵
:
空间裂隙
could be slightly helpful in movement-heavy fight.
亡灵
: From analyzing simulations,
哀伤之触
is actually pretty strong - at least 5% more self-heal.
被遗忘者的意志
is a more restrictive version of the human racial, but it works on abilities such as
黑暗压迫
.
食尸
can be useful on fights with edible adds, but corpses tend to despawn quickly.
牛头人
:
耐久
is slightly less powerful than a stamina flask, and the gain is less noticeable at high gear level.
战争践踏
is one more stun against trash or adds.
至高岭牛头人
:
蛮牛冲撞
is a small speed boost.
侏儒
:
逃命专家
can be useful if there are so many roots or slows that a single
逃脱
isn't enough, or if you want to take another talent than
迅疾如风
.
巨魔
:
再生
isn't overpowered but still noticeable (count health*0,11%/2sec)
地精
:
火箭跳
is a reverse untalented
逃脱
, so same utility.
火箭弹幕
deals little damage.
血精灵
:
奥术洪流
is an extra dispel, but your spirit beast can dispel too.
夜之子
:
奥术脉冲
can help for kiting.
德莱尼
:
纳鲁的赐福
is a heal that can be used on the hunter or the pet.
光铸德莱尼
:
圣光裁决者
deals good burst AoE damage.
狼人
:
疾步夜行
is a medium speedboost that lasts for a full 10 seconds.
熊猫人
:
震山掌
a 4-second stun that breaks on damage. Can buy a little time, but if your pet is attacking the target it will break instantly.
Profession
Most professions have little impact on soloing. Those that create the consumables we use can be real money-savers, such as
炼金术
. The one that stands out is
工程学
: it has lots of nice toys, which are even more options - although usually you'll only have use for
高弹力衬垫
and
腰带附魔:微型等离子护盾
.
Gear and consumables
You won't necessarily be using your default raiding gear for soloing. The win condition for a fight sometimes requires prioritizing survival, and other times it's dealing with a specific mechanic.
Stats
Stamina
: stamina increases your maximum health, allowing you to survive more damage. Same for your pet. It affects percentage-based heals. However since in BFA healing also comes from offensive capabilities and ilvl the value of agility compared to stamina has increased.
Leech
: other than the pet aura, leech slightly increases pet and self healing. Remember that leech is split between hunter and pet (about 45% hunter/55% pet).
Versatility
: despite being underpowered as far as dps is concerned, it slightly reduces damage taken.
Avoidance
: reducing damage taken from area of effect spells can be useful on some fights where they are a significative source of damage.
Speed
: useful if you are kiting, or simply trying to time a mythic+ solo. Seldom serves on bosses, but can give some quality of life improvements.
Crit
: this ability influences the most on your self-heal azerite powers since any of their heals can crit.
Azerite
Choosing the right azerite powers for the job is important. Let's check the different powers from a soloing perspective before talking about combos.
Rings 2 and 3
I won't analyse powers from a dps perspective, I would suggest visiting
bloodmallet
or
Bendak's guide
for those info, they do a better job than I would. From a survival standpoint, azerite powers can increase pet damage, hunter damage or both, which is especially important when using ferocity pets. Very few traits have a defensive effect - such as
污秽传输
- but those who do can be a nice bonus.
Ring 1
This is the most important ring, since azerite can do more than half of your self-healing.
Short version is:
冷漠面容
is by far the best,
娴熟掩护
and
回声防护
are good. The rest is more situational.
For a more detailed explanation, see the table below. Weight is calculated in comparison to
回声防护
, which is the simplest one to grasp, discounting crits, and considering it procs on cooldown - for example
娴熟掩护
loses value if you only FD every minute.
If you have pieces with different item levels you'll probably have to do math, but also consider the extra health and damage.

Trinkets
Of all equipment pieces, trinkets are the most unique. Between raids and Mythic+, we have a lot of options to choose from. As usual, you can priortize flat dps, burst or AoE.
For survival, don't hesitate to grab every trinket you can get rather than watching it go to the vendor, grab it if it's interesting. However in BFA tank trinkets are a little less valuable, mainly stamina trinkets since they trade a small amount of dps/self-healing for a small amount of survival, so it's hard to say if they are worth it. For example, I valued a lot
暗月套牌:封锁
at the start of the expansion, but 30 ilvl and 3 BiS azerite traits later it's no longer impactful enough for me.
However, stamina trinkets are not necessarily the strongest trinkets for the hunter's survival. There are currently no overpowered trinkets, but for example
夏尔扎克斯的迷蒙之眼
can increase hunter self-sustain by around 10% in exchange for around 2,5% dps.
Those are only examples, make sure to hoard trinkets that have any effect increasing your survivability, but I'm not sure they are worth farming.
You also want a PvP trinket for some fights, but they are hard to come by. I have one I bought years ago, but the most accessible should be
精制恶毒角斗士的顽强勋章
and
联盟徽记
(needs testing).
Consumables
When attacking a boss, I tend to prefer an agility flask (3-4% dps) to a stamina one (4-5% health), but if you are having difficulty keeping your pet alive it can negatively impact your dps, so either do math or just try different options and see what feels better.
In BFA we have two healing potions:
海滨治疗药水
, off cooldown, and
海滨活力药水
, on the same cooldown as the dps potion. In cases you are using a tenacity pet and plan on using hero before the pull, drums (
漩涡战鼓
,
高山战鼓
...) will be required.
There are also quite a few potions that have an effect unavailable to your class.
净化药水
can dispel some debuffs,
天行药水
is great for kiting, and
活力行动药水
is a pvp trinket.
Just because you can't do something doesn't mean there isn't an item that can do it for you.
Finally, BFA reintroduces scrolls:
战吼战争卷轴
and
耐力战争卷轴
, which are very powerful.

Analyzing bosses and dealing with abilities
We'll begin with analyzing boss abilities, talking about pets, and finally what tools us hunters have to deal with it.
Boss abilities
Before downing a boss, you will have to try a lot in order to understand the mechanics, even if you know the fight. Given that they often aren't coded with the idea of a soloer or pet tank in mind, they may not behave as you would expect.
You first want to check how much damage the boss does on your pet with his
Melee Attack
. It will give you an idea on how much you must invest in pet survival. You also want to check his
狂暴
timer, in order to gauge the minimum dps.
Since all abilities focus on you, you will be dealing with a lot of overlaps, and there are unexpected mechanics that can arise. For example on
萨维斯
Mythic
腐蚀新星
removes the dream buff, which I'm extremely sure wasn't the case in Legion with 20 people.
You will also want to understand the timings. For example, in the
黄金风蛇
fight, he spawns three puddles then cast
卢彻的召唤
, but if you delay a puddle you will only get two.
Then there is the fact you are a pet class. This will cause "tank" abilities to work differently. There are spells that will target the pet, some that will target the hunter, and others that will not be cast unless the hunter is in range or has aggro. The best example is
猎魂者伊墨纳尔
: he casts
震击之枪
on the hunter and
撕裂
on the pet. This makes some bosses far harder, such as
克洛苏斯
who will spam
灼烧烙印
on the hunter. On the other side,
阿格拉玛
is a complete joke with a pet tank:
泰沙拉克之触
doesn't proc, plus
泰沙拉克剑技
doesn't affect the pet at all and doesn't even stack
燃烧之怒
.
The same principles apply to trash packs, in addition to the fact that it is possible to separate packs by pulling and trapping an add out of line of sight from his pack, resetting the pack then pulling the add alone.
Hunter abilities
Once you've understood how the boss's abilities work, you must also understand how they interact with hunter abilities.
You can check if abilities can be outranged. Some spells have a 40-yard range, same as you. Range is calculated from the center of the attacker to the limit of the hitbox. For example, on the hearstbane triad you can avoid
毁灭箭
(40 yd) by being out of range of the static witches while dpsing the one holding the Iris. If the range of an ability is more (ex:
上古摧心者
- 75y), you can try to outrange it then run back to resume dps/healing.
Note that outranging also works on instant spells, and sometimes the boss will cast them and they don't affect anybody - so you can come back in range. Other times he won't cast it until someone is in range, meaning you can only delay.
Line of Sight works like outranging: if you LoS
无尽黑暗
on
深海祭师
it will miss you completely and you can resume dps. But on
格罗斯
, although you can LoS
燃烧护甲
, he will not cast it (so it won't go on cooldown) if no targets are in LoS - the instant he sees you again, he will cast it on you. To be fair, in BFA this trick still works on trash but is far less prevalent on bosses.
Then there is
假死
. Unless the boss ignores it or despawns, it can help avoid all kinds of abilities. Some will affect you even through
假死
, and others will not cast until you get up. For the latter, if they have a cast time, feign death during the cast and see what happens. It can also be used to delay abilities, buying time or avoiding bad combos. Same with
灵龟守护
, it can be used before an ability to try to deflect it or after and ability to deal with a debuff.
Finally, some abilities are targeted bolts that focus on a location, not you -
逃脱
or running really fast can help you avoid it.
In conclusion, you must learn the boss's abilities, if you can avoid them, and prepare a cooldown rotation. Theorycrafting and analyzing videos of your tries can help a lot.

Tools and tips
Videos
Some people prefer to learn on their own, some prefer examples. Right now the current extreme soloers are
Durendil
and
Shoot
.
Useful Macros
You may want to keybind or add in macros some pet abilities if you need to time them well. To macro a spell, write "/cast <spell>".
This isn't an exhaustive list, just those linked to soloing.
Make your pet stop attacking and come back/follow you
:
/petfollow
/petpassive
Misdirect on your pet, and puts it in focus
:
/cast Misdirection
/targetlastenemy
/focus
/targetlastenemy
Misdirect on focus or pet and start generating aggro (multi)
:
#showtooltip multi-shot
/cast Misdirection
/cast multi-shot
/petattack
Spirit beast heal
:
/cast spirit mend
/targetlastenemy
/petattack
(note: pets are currently bugged to stop attacking if they use an on-command ability while in passive.)
Send pet on specific target
:
/tar <enemyforpet>
/petattack
/tar <enemyforhunter>
Feign death immediately
:
#showtooltip Feign death
/stopcasting
/cast feign death
Reactivating growl in soloing
/petautocaston growl
(note: in instances growl has a tendency to toggle off if your pet dies. I macro it to kill command.)
Weakaura for Clefthoof defensive internal cooldown:
https://wago.io/rJPUD5x47
The ability can not be put in an action bar, but the weakaura allows to work around it.
Other tips
Entering a raid on your own
:
If you need to be in a raid group to enter a raid, or want to reset a dungeon and need to be in a group, it is possible to open the group finder then start a group - this will make you the leader of a single player group, and you can switch to raid etc. Note that if you do "leave party", you will be ported out after one minute, which is an easy way to leave a dungeon - to quit the group and continue, delist it.
Start small
:
If you want to learn to solo, old raids and normal/heroic dungeons are a good place to start. Try to find challenging content that will force you to better yourself, but with a certain margin for error.

Acknowledgments
I would like to thank Perculia for making this guide possible, as well as all the members of the hunter soloing community. Mainly Shoot, but also old guard like Caribald, and fellow Elitisjerks soloers like
Narî
who made me feel part of the community. Also Nolan Hunter 18, whose channel is gone, who introduced me to soloing with his videos of Molten Core.
About the author
Durendil
has been playing his hunter since Vanilla. During WotLK, he decided to try soloing because the alternative was playing another class. He started with BC heroic dungeons, and followed with
熔火之心
and
卡拉赞
. It was then that he ran out of guides, so he started creating his own strategies for Zul'gurub (level 60 version), Zul'Aman (level 70 version) and
预言者斯克拉姆
, which required nature resistance gear. He rose as one of the top two hunter soloers along with
Caribald
, and made a name for himself in the hunter community thanks to his first hunter
solo of The Lich King
. He continued soloing expansion to expansion, getting the first hunter kills on
拉格纳罗斯
(10-25H),
雷神
(normal and heroic), and
海拉
. During that time Caribald retired from soloing and
Shoot
made his debut.
He plans on keeping on soloing and pushing his hunter to his limits.

Hey thanks so much for this guide, I was wondering if you could update it? because the information about what has been soloed, the ilvl's and stuff all seem too out of date. Also I would very much appreciate an updated racials section for all the races + allied races. You should go into details and pros and cons of each one in a table or something, (doing the math etc). Thanks again.
