Basics
Warfronts are a 20-man, PvE, large-scale cooperative mode meant to represent the large-scale war on the homefront, as members of each faction fight for control of a location critical to their war efforts.
Inspired by the real-time strategy (RTS) origins of Warcraft III, Warfronts allow you to play the role of a lieutenant leading the charge on the group for a massive battle. With a full group of 20 allied players, you're responsible for creating outposts, securing resources, set-up supply lines, and train troops to push the assault forward and conquer the enemy stronghold. However, unlike in Warcraft III, you won't be commanding the action from a top-down perspective - Instead, you will be fighting first-hand in the front lines.
In Season 2, the power of all enemies in the Darkshore Warfront will also go up by roughly 15.

Bashal'aran
Once captured, Bashal'aran serves as your main base of operations in the Darkshore warfront. You must first complete the beginning stages of the Warfront before you reach Bashal'aran. Defeat the enemy champion and click the flag to capture the location.
All constructed buildings are located here for spending

.
The War Chest is located here to collect stored

that gathers overtime.
Your

Your commander is located here once Bashal'aran is captured and will remain here until you capture Lor'danel.
Horde Only:
The Lumberjack's Axe can be obtained here, allowing you to harvest
from certain trees around the Warfront.
Alliance Only:
Unlike the Horde, you do not bring harm to the forest. instead,
will passively be generated from Wisps and stored in the War Chest immediately after capturing Bashal'aran.
Lornesta Mine
Once captured, Lornesta Mine will slowly generate
passively for all players that can be collected by interacting with the War Chest at Bashal'aran. Lornesta Mine will initially be held by a 3rd party group of Naga located southeast of Bashal'aran. Defeat the Naga leader and click the flag to capture the Mine.
While your team holds Lornesta Mine,
is passively generated and stored for all players in their War Chest at Bashal'aran. The amount of resources currently stored in your War Chest is shown under your objectives as the value in parenthesis.
Additional

Upgrading the Tree of Life / Great Hall increases the rate of
generation from the Mine.
A maximum of 200
can be stored in the War Chest.
Cinderfall Grove
Located east of Forlorn Crossing. Capturing Cinderfall Grove will slowly generate
passively for all players that can be collected by interacting with the War Chest at Bashal'aran. Defeat the enemy champion and click the flag to capture the location.
While your team holds Cinderfall Grove,
is passively generated and stored for all players in their War Chest at Bashal'aran. The amount of resources currently stored in the War Chest is shown under your objectives as the value in parenthesis.
Alliance Only:
Capturing Cinderfall Grove enlists more aid from the Wisps which further increase the rate of
generation in the War Chest.
Horde Only:
Cinderfall Grove is NOT required to obtain the Lumberjack's Axe used to harvest
from trees. The Axe is obtained at Bashal'aran.
Forlorn Crossing
Located north of Bashal'aran. Capturing Forlorn Crossing simply increases your force's presence on Darkshore and adds an extra layer of defense between your base and the enemy.
Capturing Forlorn Crossing is required for your Siege vehicles to progress forward towards Lor'danel.
Gloomtide Strand
Located west of Forlorn Crossing. Once captured, Gloomtide Strand will allow you to train Druids / Alchemists at the Ancient of War / Barracks that will follow you around the Warfront. In addition, a player may spend 100
at Gloomtide Strand to summon a powerful friendly NPC that will help pressure the enemy. Defeat the enemy champion and click the nearby flag to capture this location.

Players may talk to an NPC at Ashwood Depot to take a flight to several other bases currently controlled by your team.
Capture of Ashwood Depot is required for your Siege vehicles to advance towards Lor'danel.
Lor'danel
Located northeast of Ashwood Depot. Capture of Lor'danel begins the final stage to reclaim Darkshore. To capture, players must destroy 2 colossal guardians and the enemy champion located near Lor'danel. Once all of that has been taken care of, the flag may be clicked.
Siege weapons are effective at taking out the 2 colossal guardians.
Once captured, your siege weapons will move up to the shore and begin firing on the Dredge Defenses setup on the waters. Players may also contribute to destroying the defenses by interacting with objects around Lor'danel Landing.
Enemy attack waves stop spawning once Lor'danel has been captured.
Tool Barrels can be found at Lor'danel to repair siege vehicles.
Once the Dredge Defenses have been destroyed, a flight to The Dredge can be taken nearby to reach the enemy commander.

Is the whistle upgrade permanent or just for that battle?

I know there's a flight path from near the front back to Bashal'aran.
However, is there a way to fly back to the front?
Once I've collected a bunch of mats to upgrade buildings, it's a real time-waster to have to ride all the way back to the front.

As far as I can tell, the Alliance doesn't have access to the axe in Darkshore.
