It has been my intention to update
glowchart.com
for a number of years now, and for various reasons (career, family, etc.) I've been unable to do so. Starting a new character every expansion (
warlock
enchanter
no less
) hasn't exactly helped my cause. However, As one of the first resources to publicly endorse wowhead a number of years ago, I'm happily moving my entire website to cuckhead.com as a guide so this information will remain current as Azeroth continues to grow... at least that's the idea.
If you're simply looking for what enchant to apply to your weapon to improve your stats (and you know this guide is silly
nonsense
fun), you may want to look at
all weapon enchants
. If you just want to see videos, I have all the enchants in this guide on my
YouTube channel
in HD. For everyone else who wants to look cool and for all my glowchart followers, all the weapon enchants have been categorized for your convenience/reference below (toggle the link next to the arrow for an embedded video of each enchant):

Frequently Asked Questions
Do other enchanted items glow; such as shields, bracers, cloaks, etc?
Although quite a few
non-enchanted
items have their own, dedicated glow, as of the current patch only enchanted weapons give off a glow you have control over. One can only hope that Blizzard will consider having other enchanted items glow in a future patch and/or expansion.
Fiery is more reddish than Demonslaying which should be orange.
This is incorrect and a common misconception. Having compared the two on numerous different weapons, they are in fact the exact same glow.
This guide is stupid... it's the bonus that matters not the glow.
I find this an amusing comment that I get ALL the time... gotta love hate mail. The funny thing is that I couldn't agree with you more. However, if you've leveled enchanting then you've been asked what color an enchant glows at least once. This guide was created so enchanters could have a reference for the players who ask that very question. I think the answer to those that don't understand why people care about the glow is that many players do indeed care about what their character looks like. Afterall, the game is about having fun, right?
What quality of weapon should I enchant?
That's really up to you. Blue and better quality items will glow and most greens will as well. Gray quality weapons will NOT hold a glow. You will also run into weapons that carry their own glow and may or may not be able to carry the enchanted effect in addition or in replacement of the default glow.
I thought there were low-level weapon enchants that didn't glow?
That was certainly the case until Cataclysm, which added faint glows to the low-level enchants. All weapon enchants glow.
So how long did this guide take to create?
As a web developer by trade, I coined the term "glow chart" and created
glowchart.com
in February 2006 dedicated to the topic (you'll notice other sites such as wowwiki and wowpedia have also adopted the term "glow chart").
Glowchart.com
has been featured on WOW Insider (
2006
|
2007
), Digg, worldofwarcraft.com and numerous other mainstream sites since its conception. I converted the site to a guide on wowhead nearly six years later in August 2011. A big thank you to the developer(s) of
wowmodelviewer
and
fraps
which made the videos possible and much nicer (and less time/resource consuming) than had I done them in-game. The original site took well over 100 hours to complete for each version (there were two versions) and because of the videos, I could easily say the same for this guide.
Isn't there a black glow?
There currently is no enchant with a black glow. However, there are a few weapons that carry their own black glow, such as
Lord Valthalak's Staff of Command
.
How do glows work with transmogrification?
The item you transmogrify will keep the original glow/enchant. You cannot transmogrify enchants (ie-you can't have one enchant transmogrified to look like another... yet).
When will you update this guide with the glows of MoP?
Links to the enchants have already been added in their own seperate tab, which will be removed and its contents integrated once MoP is released. I am in beta and will be adding videos as soon as I can. Although you can purchase the next level of training in beta, items do not disenchant into MoP materials yet thus preventing any use of enchanting. Although I'm hoping to be the first to cover the information, I will add videos as soon as I possibly can.
UPDATES
August 19, 2012
Updated entire beta section to reflect name/material changes
Updated Windsong, which is now yellow instead of blue (MoP Beta)
Added Dancing Steel (MoP Beta)
Added Jade Spirit (MoP Beta)
June 24, 2012
Added Living Steel Weapon Chain to MoP beta list
Added Pyrium Weapon Chain (white)
Titanium Weapon Chain tested and does not glow
Adamantite Weapon Chain tested and does not glow
Steel Weapon Chain tested and does not glow
It seems the weapon chain glow scales for each expansion. Screenshots indicate that Titanium used to glow, but does not anymore in Cataclysm, wheras the Pyrium glow now glows like Titanium used to. I think it'd be safe to assume Pyrium will also lose its glow in favor of Living Steel in MoP. We'll see.
June 19, 2012

Wow how could you deal with the bbcode for all of this? This is truly hard to edit.
I used to run around with an
火石法杖
enchanted with
初级屠兽
, as a mage! Wow was so fun lol
I was often asked to enchant a weapon with the red glow... The server was new and I guess the people was still learning how to play and looking good is always nice =)
Great work!
What was the bb code used in the reagents column? Was it like #?
Figured it out:

Anyone who asks about the stats is stupid. The whole point of this is possibly linked with vanity pets. Waste of money? No. I'd love this if I had enough gold!

The enchantments on my game look slightly different than in the videos shown here. For example, Mending does not have a "flame" type particle effect where the leaf particles all go up like flames. Rather, they all bloom from various points on the blade and shoot out in a random direction. Similar thing happened with Icebreaker. The fire particles do not go up, they go up the length of the weapon to the tip.
Just wanted to put this out there as a heads up to glow enchanters.
edit: considering glows are often sought after by people who want their weapons to be special somehow, please do not downrate valid information.

It's only valid to you when you clearly state:
The enchantments on my game look slightly different
which pezz kindly addressed with:
What are your spell effect settings? It's possible the videos were made using the settings turned up higher than you keep them.
Although I'm not in any position to address why you're being downrated, I just wanna chime and state that the videos were made on ultra video settings (video settings all the way up) and the enchants will vary slightly from video card to video card... the enchants do look slightly different on my laptop (nVidia 1GB DX11) vs. my desktop (ATI 2GB DX11) vs. my kid's computer (Intel integrated DX10.1) vs my wife's laptop (ATI 128mb DX10.1). The videos were also created using wowmodelviewer, which isn't perfect (but ever so awesome!). Bear in mind though that this is a
guide
, the videos are intended to be a
close resemblance
of what the enchant will look like when you get it... kind of a try before you buy deal. In addition to the various possibilities with each video card, you're also introducing hundreds (if not thousands) of weapon models that handle weapon enchants differently. There's a very good chance that your weapon enchant is going to look slightly different on someone else's machine. If you're looking for exactly what an enchant is going to look like on your weapon on your computer with your video settings, I'm afraid the best I can recommend is for you to get the mats ingame and do the enchant as I'm pretty sure there's still nothing like this anywhere else (Maybe wowhead will add the ability to enchant weapons in their Flash/Java models in the future, which would be sweet but it's not there now).
Of course you're more than welcome to also download and purchase Fraps and take the time to make and upload your own videos to youTube to share. You're also more than welcome to upload screenshots here at wowhead. I'm sure we'd all appreciate both.
All my screenshots from the old glowchart were actually ingame shots and I'd like to do this again with videos. However, coughing up the gold for all the mats and the weapons and then spending all the time required seemed somewhat counter-intuitive to the purpose the guide was going to serve the community and why I sought out and found other means to accomplish the task. I think the vast majority of this guide's users/readers understand this.
Thanks for your input.

I think you should add a category for enchants that add special effects, such as
治愈
,
斩杀
, etc. I have hopes that Blizzard will add transmog effects to enchants, so I can forever glow with
猫鼬
.
I understand you have them listed by color, but because their effects are unique, I think they could be in their own category. Props for the guide!

Pretty awesome to have this info available if I ever need it, but I wish the videos used a larger weapon so that I could have a better idea of what the glows look like. Blood elf females have among the smallest weapons in the game =(
Isn't Mending more of a green? It doesn't look yellow to me at all, so its placement in that category confuses me. Especially since it's all leafy and everything.

Dear Cordana,
I think this is a great guide; it's fun, original and well-presented. But why did you choose to use a
female blood elf
with a
dagger
to display weapon enchants? I know Vexis58 already mentioned this in his post above, but you didn't reply on this topic so I'd like to restate the issue. Wouldn't using a larger weapon on a character with better weapon scaling (e.g. a male orc with a sword) provide a better preview of the enchant's glow effect?
Note: I'm not saying you should change it or anything but I'm just curious if you had a particular reason to pick a very small weapon for your videos.

Possibly. I just picked a toon that matched my main. Being male, I kinda prefer to view the opposing gender. ;) I'm very careful where I go in the game to get videos/screenshots so they stand out, but I really didn't face that on a black background with the model viewer.
As for the weapon... I specifically wanted a dagger or sword that was pretty dull. Many of the current weapons have they're own cool details and even effects which I was intentionally trying to avoid. Lackluster weapons are tough to come by these days as Blizzard gets more creative with each xpac/patch.
I'm in the process of redoing ALL the videos in game, so there's a model and ingame presentation available (I'm adding six more as we speak). The model is close and gives you a good idea, but it's not perfect. All the ingame videos are being done with a staff on my Female Goblin Priest, which I think does a pretty good job (checkout Power Torrent which has been updated).
I've yet to choose my weapon for the 1H enchants, but I'm still looking and open to suggestions.

Anyone know of an index of weapons that come with a default glow? I am trying to find daggers with a white glow to transmogrify to, to go with my rogue's Boneshredder outfit. Would be greatly appreciated!
评论来自

what would be great and I believe we should ask blizz for is a way to customize the glow. both in color and intensity.
for example for my rogue I would love to have a faint dark green glow instead of having to go with two bright yellow lighthouses. don't get me wrong the glow of landslide is great but not very roguish in my opinion.
yet I'm forced to go with that glow since there's nothing I can do to customize it (and the stats are far more important than looking good when you want to go to hero dungeons or raids)

You cannot transmogrify enchants (ie-you can't have one enchant transmogrified to look like another... yet).
Does this mean they are considering a way to allow us to get the glow we
want
, rather than what we
need
for our weapons?
I would absolutely love to transmog some of my weapon loud and bright glows to more subtle or more "appropriate" glows. For example, a mage ideally wants "Power Torrent" on her weapon, but since I have a frost mage...I honestly would prefer the glow of "Avalanche" (or even the more subtle "Winter's Might").
Is this going to be a possibility in an upcoming MoP patch? (*edit*) Nope, but now you can in WoD with the "Illusion" Enchants... and most likely this will be following in Legion! ^_^

And in saying that don't take this the wrong way, but why not choose a bigger weapon to preview the enchants on?
I don't know if you were limited by the model viewer you were using, but a simple dagger doesn't really do many enchants justice.

In addition to the calls for a larger weapon (and higher zoom?), I'd also recommend a set of static images. To compensate for loss of space, what are currently the right-most five columns of the table - that is, everything except the video - could easily be merged into a single box a la Wikipedia fact boxes.
Having images available would provide at-a-glance information for viewers who are generally familiar with enchants, and only need enough detail to identify them. The videos still provide utility to newer viewers who stand to learn the full animation sequence.

More than likely been said, but I'll say it too, but I wish they would add an option to Transmog to change enchant effects on weapons to that of another one. It should also work the same way, meaning you must use an enchantment straight from the profession window if you're an enchanter, or from a Vellum/Scroll if not one.

Great guide, just thought I would link a few that were added for 5.3 just in case people were wondering/looking for these, thanks!

that's odd. in-game, the massacre enchant has a sort of "blood dripping" effect. but in the video here, it not only doesn't seem to drip very far, but the particles appear to go UPWARDS like effervescent bubbles or something. I'm confused.

Can't thank you enough for this guide, I really appreciate the amount of time it must have taken you to write. Really good job.

umm. I used Windsong and the glow is yellow, not bright blue. Did it change with 5.4?

Keep in mind this guide is going to be very useful for
Warlords of Draenor
because it seems we'll be able to transmog enchants.

Enchanter garrison building allows you to trade WoD enchants for the same effect with a different visual (including none).
Ps: Excellent guide, I've been using it from the very day it was created :)

Needs updating rather badly; went to get Major Intellect for yellow and it's now a whitish blue...

The item you transmogrify will keep the original glow/enchant. You cannot transmogrify enchants (ie-you can't have one enchant transmogrified to look like another... yet).
As of Beta WoD, it is confirmed that it 'mogging' enchant glows (aka, making an enchant glow in a different way) will be available through your Garrison. It may also be possible to completely remove the glow.

This guy was ahead of its time. With the new "Illusion" enchants in WoD I bet this page will get plenty of traffic. I was looking for just the thing to see what could work best with some transmog sets I plan to make.

If you have a follower stationed to your Enchanter's study in your garrison you can Xmog enchants!

This guide has new relevance now that WoD allows you to customize the look of your enchant.

Just wanted to say that I put Major Intellect on my priest's staff and it was bright yellow...not blue. And yes I made sure it was "Major" Intellect, not "Mighty" Intellect.

This is just amazing!
The amount of time this must've taken, seriously impressed. Great formatting, easy to understand and direct links to both the enchant and the formula. Even writing the required skill for said enchant as well as the materials and how much of which you need, even writing the required runed rod.
I will be saving this, can't lose a treasure like this.
Off-Topic:
Doing a combination of colored weapons such as the
幻影之刃
for my demon hunter, the colors are "connected" to the spec I'm in, and was looking for an enchant with a stronger blue glow than the "Striking" enchant.
Just if anyone is wondering what the colors are and why I've chosen them.
Vengeance:
Main-Hand:
振动轻剑
-
公式:附魔武器 - 次级屠兽
- Red for health and leeching.
Off-Hand:
偷来的虚灵刀
-
公式:附魔武器 - 生命偷取
- Purple for soul shards.
Havoc:
Main-Hand:
复仇军的相位之剑
-
附魔武器 - 敏捷
Green for the fel.
Off-Hand:
幻影之刃
-
公式:附魔武器 - 超强打击
Blue because, well just because. Will use
附魔武器 - 心灵之歌
when I've gotten it.
