As of 9/14/2013 this achievement appear to be broken. Our raid got it, but we definitely didn't meet the requirement of killing 18 warbringers with a single Iron Star because we killed all siege engineers. However, we did kill at least 18 warbringers with Iron Stars in total during our several unsuccessful pulls.

You can earn this achievement in raid finder difficulty, it's a bug for sure but Blizzard won't remove it from your log after the fix so go and inform your raid finder groups and get it while you still can.

I got this achievement before it was hotfixed in LFR, but we had three people who got it tonight in flex without any special strat. We only had two rounds of iron stars, so it's obviously still bugged in non-LFR difficulties and available by default upon downing the boss.

We can confirm as of 12/2/13
that you do not have to kill all 18 with one Iron Star
!
After several attempts at doing so we finally just killed each group that spawned with the Iron Star, and those in our raid that just needed that for the meta got the achievement.
As a side note, I had the achievement already, probably from the bugs listed in other posts, and I actually got the achievement again after we did it, even though I already had the achievement and the meta AND the mount!
So just dps the adds down to about 50% and line them up with the Iron Star one wave at a time, will take a minimum of 3 waves. I think the language is alluding to killing the adds with a
"single"
Iron Star, since hitting them with an Iron Star will not kill them unless they are at about half health.

As of 3/2/2014 (March, 2nd, 2014), the Achievement is still bugged. In Flex, the Iron Stars triggered 3 times and not even a Warbringer or any other NPC was even damaged by the Iron Star.

Would just like to add that as of 5.4.8 this achievement has been corrected and not cannot be obtained (according to blizz) by using 3 iron stars or bugs in LFR or Flex mode.
The only way (according to blizz) to obtain this achievement now is to gather up 18 warbringers at once, aoe all down to 40-50% HP, use 1 iron star to kill all 18 at once then proceed to kill garrosh.
Had this confirmed by a GM today.

I can confirm that this achievement is still bugged. My roommate was doing a flex meta run through openraid; everything was going fairly well until they got to Garrosh. As he was one of only a few people in the 25man group who didn't have the achievement, RL decided they would only give it a few attempts (as someone in raid had heard it had been fixed and must now be done properly) before moving on and just downing Garrosh for the heirloom attempt. Roomie was pretty pissed, even more so when on the last attempt someone "accidentally killed three of the mobs with a one-shot". Yeah. -_-
So, they kept on and downed the boss after clearly falling short of the number they needed. Well, when Garrosh fell over, he got his meta, anyway. So, as I said, I can confirm that - at least on flex - you can cheese this achievement as you have been able to do all before.

I can confirm that as of today the bug is still in affect. Just kill 18 with iron stars throughout the instance and you will get it (doesn't have to be 18 all at once).

In case people are having trouble getting the achievement, heres a strategy I came up with to get it.
1. First of all make sure you have people with good burst dps in your group, fire mages with blast wave are a good example.
2. Have two people of both engineers to avoid accidentally killing any of the warbringers.
2. Allow three packs of warbringers to come out have only the tank on them over to the side.
3. When the next shaman comes out let him heal all the warbringers to full hp, then kill him.
4. Now have all dps switch to the pack of warbringers and burst them with aoe to around 20%.
5. Only kill one of the next siege engineers.
6. Have the tank suicide into the iron star or have someone with knock backs knock them into it.
7. Brez the tank and finish the encounter.
Also it's important to know that if the fourth set of adds come out have the tank on garrosh pick them up. We had a BIS warrior tanking the adds and whenever the fourth pack aggroed onto him he took crazy damage and died.

Is this still bugged? We tried to kill each set adds individually and did not get the credit. And we tried it again several times with all three sets of adds at once and still the Iron Start won't kill them all no matter how low they are. Have anyone tried this recently?

As of 11/10/2014 (10.11.2014) we did this achievement on normal garrosh (former flex) after trying different tactis.
Like the achievement says you need to kill 18 warbringers with a single Iron star.
The Iron star does about 180k damage to them. A buffed warbringer has about 480-500k health.
Our line up:
- 3 tanks (2 warriors, 1 druid)
- 3 heals (priest/druid/priest)
- 6 damage dealer (2 hunter, 1 rogue, 2 paladins, 1 mage) - although i would advice more ranged dps
Our strategy:
- kill the first 4 (2x2) iron stars, then only the left one (which would roll into our camp)
- kill fareseer asap, don't let them heal
- one tank takes garrosh, the other two go to each side and tank the warbringer
- don't damage garrosh below 40%
The key part of our strategy: single tank and damage focus onto the warbringers, so they stayed at 100k to 150k life (first wave to 40-50%, because they would soak aoe later on).
Each tank has 9 warbringers after three waves. the 3rd wave must be damaged hard in order to bring them low enough to be killed by an iron star.
The third iron star on non-camp site will roll through, so let the tanks take cooldowns if any left (had to blow them in the 3rd add wave), but a guardian spirit or life grip or legendary cloak proc would save you as well. Shockwave or taifun + mass root may be handy.
After all warbringers have been fired, continue the fight normal. do the new iron stars, kick the fareseer and push him into phase 2.
Important: don't shockwave (or mass stun) the warbringers earlier. Else they will "one shot" as their melee hits will hit at the same time.

For those wondering how to keep count.
here's a macro:
/run local count = 0 for i = 0, 10000, 1 do if _G ~= nil and _G:IsVisible() then count = count + 1 end end SendChatMessage("Count: " .. count - 1,"SAY")
What it does is counts the amount of enemy nameplates on the screen, and says the count out loud "/say".
The reason it starts at -1 is because throughout the fight Garrosh will also be on your screen so it takes his count out.
Get someone in raid to spam it until it hits 18!

We've been having some trouble on this achievement recently. We finally got it on March 7th, 2016. We did it on 10m normal with all level 100s.
We would get the Warbringers to 50% or lower, run into the path of the Iron Star, and they'd lose maybe 20% hp. We kept trying, but eventually we'd be overwhelmed with new adds.
Something wasn't working properly, and it had to do with us being level 100. When calling a wipe, one of our members mentioned that the star would actually "miss" her when she was in its path. That got me thinking.
If the Iron Star is designed to explode upon impact of either the player or the wall, then with it constantly missing the tanks as they stand in its path, holding 18 warbringers, it's only doing so much damage.
So, I changed the strat, which is survivable on 10m normal.
Once we had our 18 warbringers, we (the tanks), moved all of them to the wall where the star crashes. The Iron Star does more damage when it explodes. I honestly don't recall it exploding before it hits the wall.
I could be wrong on the damage output, but upon impact, it does noticeable damage to the Warbringers.
We still had the problem of getting their HP low enough, and my being a guardian druid, it was hard to get them down without AoE and without hitting them with something that would cause a bleed effect.
Anyway, it was chaos, but it actually worked a few times for us.
Get your warbringers and try to NOT do any damage to them. Just let the stars roll into the wall, but be at that wall so they DO hit you and the adds!
We had it a couple of times, when the text of the achievement, while tracking it, turned from red to white, but we wiped on Garrosh. My guild consists of new raiders, so the mind control part got us.
Either way, if you're having trouble on this fight, try my strat. If you are all 100, and have 1 or 2 healers in there (we had 1), just have everyone stand in the path of the star. Have someone who doesn't have the achievement, track it, so when the text turns white, you can continue on with the fight.
I couldn't find a strat that worked and was easy enough. The Iron Stars just don't do the damage expected just by simply standing in their path. The explosion upon impacting the wall seemed to do the trick.
You may want to just let all hell break loose and have a few extras come along with you, because some are sure to die if their health is lower than others.
With the damage as it is now, you have a lot of time to sit in phase 1 and do it. Just burst Garrosh hard through phase 2, and during the heart phase, so he doesn't MC anyone. If you can do that, you're golden.

Just did this today. We (group of 12 with 2 healers on Normal) pulled a group of 18 near 100% health right to the wall where a star would explode, and the damage was not nearly enough to kill them.
We stayed at that corner and just let more and more come to us and, over time, more and more died from the stars.
Eventually the achievement turned white, and we got credit after the kill.
Takeaways:
You do NOT need to kill all 18 Warbringers with 1 Iron Star.
A single Iron Star explosion is not enough to kill a Warbringer at 100% health.
The damage from the Iron Stars is trivial at 100 (easily healed with 1 healer, even if it takes you a long time to get 18 Warbringers killed).
Just track the achievement (shift-left click in your Achievements pane) and wait until it goes white, and then kill the boss.

This achievement is bugged as of 7.0 prepatch again. Multiple groups, including mine have been attempting multiple times, after clearly killing 18+ with iron star and we cannot get this achievement to turn white. We have contacted a GM and all they said is that they will look into it. Anyone else having problems?

Did this last night and today again, we were sure we killed 18 warbringers with a single iron star, but we didn't get the achievement.
Talked to a GM today before going for our second try, he said the achievement wasn't bugged.
Idk anymore, going crazy from this -.-
Edit: Contacted them again about it - a different GM again confirmed it wasn't bugged.

Achievement bugged as of 7.03
We had a GM in game in our raid. He made a visual confirmation and confirmed that the achievement is bugged.
We collected ~26 warbringers and damaged them to half hp. Achievement progress did not switch to white, no achievement after garrosh kill. Repeated 3x again in the same try, collected 19, 25 and 22 warbringers again. No achievement.
GM told us that they usually don't investigate achievements, since most achievements, can not be verified through game logs. So they never know for sure if achievements work or not. They even rely on checking wowhead if issues exist. But if recent posts about achievement working exist (like here from 6.2) and they don't have a confirmed bug in their database yet, they ask to try again. So their options to help are quite limited.
He was only able to investigate this with us, because we already had a raid setup and ready to pull garrosh.
He told us, that he made a bug escalation and that this will be adressed with a future patch.

We tried this today, in 10m normal with a monk and druid. Gathered enough Kor'kron Warbringers but Iron Stars didn't damaged adds. Does anyone experienced this problem?

Game Master Neenastra here. Thanks for reaching out about the issue with the Strike! achievement. I can confirm that it is currently bugged and sadly there is no current work around. We are working on a hotfix for this but no set date when it will be pushed out. Sadly at this time due to verification issues that is not an achievement we have the ability to grant. Be checking patch notes in coming patches and hotfixes for information on when this will be resolved.

I just got this achievement today as a holy priest. Even though the achievement text did not turn white, I went ahead and killed the boss anyways and I got it. You can see the achievement date on my toon, Nadrii on Illidan.
I did 2 sets of adds, I'm unsure how many I killed each time since they just continue to spawn as I get them low. But each time it was approximately 20.

Just soloed this on my shaman. I did NOT lower all of the enemies below 50% before they were killed and several of them got hit by two Iron Stars before dying, but at least 18 did die from the same Iron Star. I was tracking the achievement and it was red the entire time. Decided to kill the boss even though it showed red and was surprised when I got the achievement. So it is able to be completed but don't rely on the tracking text to turn white.

This achievement is FIXED and obtainable as of 2017/03/01, I just soloed it as a Level 110 Feral Druid on 10 man Normal Mode.
Here's how I did it:
I unequipped my weapon, chose the Mass Entanglement talent and put the Achievement on Tracking. After staring the fight I grabbed the first pack of six Warbringers and gave them a couple of AOE Swipes, getting them below 50%. After that I took them to a corner of the room that had an Iron Star and didn't do any more damage. Next, I made sure to kill both the Farseer Wolf Rider before he healed anyone and the Siege Engineer on the side of the room I went to. This ensured the Warbringers didn't get hit by the Iron Star on my corner.
The next part was simple, when more Warbringers came through the gates, I used Mass Entanglement on the ones that I already had and went to grab the new ones. This way, I was able to swipe the new adds without doing more damage to the ones I already had. The next part was repeating this cycle until I had enough adds.
Eventually Farseer Wolf Riders and Siege Engineers started coming at the same time as new Warbringers. I just made sure to kill them before they caused any trouble. I will note as well, that I did end up killing Warbringers even when trying to only lower their health, but I had a macro to count the mobs and only proceeded when I had 20 something adds (I know only 18 are needed, but I recommend getting more since some might not die with the Iron Star).
When I had enough Warbringers, I stopped using the Mass Entanglement, got them on the path of an Iron Star and let them get hit. If you're tracking the achievement and everything went ok, it WILL BECOME white, at which point you can kill Garrosh. GL!

Did it on 4th march of 2017. Kept killing one of the stars and stacked the adds. After getting like a ton of them, did a bit of aoe damage and then kept on running onto a star until I got white text. Finished the boss.

Completed this achievement today (24/4/17) on 10 normal. Took a lot of messing around and we eventually gave up as we could not get the text to go white in the tracking. We killed the boss deciding to call it quits and somehow got the achievement anyway.

it - it's possible for Windwalkers as well, but a lot easier for Brewmasters, because your damage is a bit lower and your ranged damage is higher - also no Chi costs!
You need the
Rushing Jade Wind
and
Black Ox Statue
talents.
Unequip your weapon and any AoE items - like
Choker of Barbed Reins
.
These 2 macros are very helpful for the fight as well:

The first one simply cancels your
Rushing Jade Wind
.
The second one is there to count all nameplates that are active - so you need to enable them as well in your settings!
For the opening I pulled Garrosh with
Crackling Jade Lightning
and set up the
Statue
around the middle of the left Iron Star. I let Garrosh get aggro and ran to the middle to face pull the packs.
For each pack I simply used
Rushing Jade Wind
and used a cancel macro to cancel it when the enemies were @ about 20% health (macro is: /cancelaura Rushing Jade Wind).
Then I ran to the
Statue
and let it taunt the adds. I resummoned it whenever I killed the Enigneer and the Iron Stars were about to go off. Obviously kill the one on the left - your
Statue
is next to him already after all.
Kill the Shaman as soon as it spawns, most of the time the Iron Star will hit him so that he's only @ 20% already, so he's an easy kill.
You can clear the weapons (though you don't need to).
Rinse and repeat the process - don't forget to resummon your Statue, else you'll get into trouble if the timing isn't correct. ;)

As of 7.3 I did this with doing nothing fancy. No need to take off weapons, damage the mobs yourself or use special talents. Normal 25man, 915 geared.
Pulled boss to one corner of the room, killed the engineer on that side and stood in front of that star(that will not fire because of a dead engineer) to dodge the other coming across.
Killed each farseer wolfrider so there was no healing for the adds. Killed the same engineer each wave.
Stayed tanking them until I had over 20 to be sure. Turn name plates on if they are not, use this to check: /run local count = 0 for i = 0, 10000, 1 do if _G ~= nil and _G:IsVisible() then count = count + 1 end end print(count)
Once I had over 20 I stopped killing engineers and hugged my corner near my star as tight as possible.
Once the third star hit my pile of now close to 30, it killed the first 20+ I had together, the achievement tracker went white, I killed Garosh and completed the achievement.
Other than the above I used crimson vial a few times to heal and used one evasion while the first set of 20 enraged due to low health.

Note: This guide was written specifically for Marksmanship Hunters on Heroic difficulty, though the same strategies apply to any spec, just fill in the abilities to the "equivalent" of your spec. Specs without a "tap" AoE (an AoE that only hits once for a small burst of damage) may find it a little challenging

0. (Optional, though highly recommended as it will simplify this a LOT.) Creating Your Macros:
Create a macro to target the Farseer Wolf Riders.
/target Farseer Wolf Rider
for those unwilling to type it. You want to burn these down as soon as they spawn, as

will be your friend for doing this, but will make it hard to kill them as it stacks up to 5 times. (750% damage and health increase). You can also use a macro for targetting the desecrated weapons, though they aren't a huge issue. I also suggest using a macro that will tell you how many enemies are available via checking their nameplates. (Remember: Subtract one for Garrosh, and every desecrated weapon, which is where defeating them comes in handy. Depending on how close you are, you may also pick up the Siege Engineer.)

1. Beginning Your Attempt:
Attack Garrosh to begin the fight. (duh)
2. Location, Location, Location:
Pull him to where either of the Iron Stars will spawn in. Personally, I chose the right side. The Kor'kron Warbringers will run to the center of the room, then automatically follow you. You may need to stand bit away from the spawn location, because if you are too close, the Iron Star might not hit the Kor'kron Warbringers, and you won't be able to get the achievement.
3. Keeping Up With The Kor'kron:
- (Optional) Run the name plate checker macro to check how many Kor'kron are available.
- This is where things get tricky. You need to keep track of all of the Warbringers available, their buff stack, and kill the Wolf Riders. Targetting a Wolf rider obviously makes it more difficult to watch the buff, as you will want it to reach it's max stack of 5, to prevent yourself from instantly killing them, and making sure their health percentage is semi-equal.
-Make sure you kill the Siege engineer as he spawns, as to avoid accidentally killing the Warbringers. Remember to stay in the corner, as going to the other half of the room will hit the with the other Iron Star, and be a pointless trip.
- After you have at least 18 Warbringers (I suggest going a little over, just for security), and they are all at 5 stacks of

to burn them down to under 50% of their maximum health. (I couldn't really figure out a good reason as to why, though I suspect it may have something to do with the game needing to flag them as "in combat with you").
4. Here's the Frying Pan, So Let's Kill It:
-At this point, I was getting a little low on health, with 36 warbringers at 5 stacks, Garrosh, and desecrated weapons all dealing a good chunk of damage to me. If you aren't using

, you will be hard pressed to keep your health up without using

, depending on how far along your artifact is progressed.
-Once all of the Warbringers are down under 50% health, let the siege engineers live and release the Iron Star. The first on might not kill it, and if it doesn't that's fine. Just keep killing the wolf riders, and use the other Iron Star if available.
-Be warned. After about 10 minutes of Stage 1, the siege engineers will stop spawning. From here, you will need to use

, or actually die to reset the fight. This happened to me, so don't feel discouraged if you don't get it on your first try.
5. Cheevy Chase:
After you kill the Warbringer with the Iron Star, bring down Garrosh. Finish Phase 1 as normal, and use all of your cooldowns for Phase 2. If you think you can kill him without going to the Realm of Y;shaarj, go ahead and use them at the beginning of this phase. If not, clear the Realm of Y'shaarj, and use them in there.. They should carry into Phase 3, and that's the fight.

I'm sure this has been mentioned somewhere already but just in case there is somebody else out there not fully thinking this through, in total you have to kill 18 - not 18 at the same time.
This made the entire procedure loads easier for me on my warlock, have your Voidwalker tank Garrosh (or you yourself) and drain life them down, have an Iron Star kill 2-3 or so and move on to more. Incredibly easy then :P

So I think this achievement has been fixed because we tried to kill them one group at a time and we killed 18+ with the stars and it didn't turn white but after we grouped up a bunch of them, over 18 and killed them with the stars it turned white and we got the achieve after killing the boss.

Just soloed as of 10/6/2018 as a Outlaw Rogue. I basically took off my weapons and killed all farseers and only the engineer to the right. After about 4 or 5 waves of adds I let the engineer on the fire off his iron star. Oh I almost forgot I had the achievement tracker on. Once I noticed it turn white I re-equipped my weapons and nuked the boss. I will mention that I probably had still 6 or more adds still alive as I nuked boss.

Still broken as of BFA. We (group of 3) had it tracked, it was red. We did the method of grouping up tons of Warbringers and letting stars gradually chip their health down evenly. Some got knocked into the other star, some died, some seemed to barely take damage. We had a group of around 40 when we stopped killing engineers and let the ironstars go across the room, and after 2 stars, most of the Warbringers were dead. We were about to reset and try again, but I wanted to see if I had any attacks that reliably brought them to low health, so we kept the few remaining alive for no real reason. Another star hit while I was playing around, killing the last 5 or so, and the achievement turned white. At NO point did 18 die to a single star, and we had probably 25 dead from stars and 15 to just us killing at that point, so who knows where it got the number from. Either way, we killed him when we say the tracker wasn't red, and got the achievement.
tl;dr killed a bunch of Warbringers, but never 18 to one star. Tracker said we did it correctly, and we got the achievement.

So my group did this today. The only thing that worked was killing the engineers that spawned and waiting for 3 waves, not damaging or killing anything besides the wolf riders. We then pulled all of the adds to where the iron star SPAWNS and allowed the one engineer to cast it. When it landed, this is what 1 shot them and made the achievement go white for us. Haven't seen this in a comment so figured I would add it.

As of patch 8.1.5 it doesn't seem to be any bug anymore. I just completed the achievement on Mythic.
IMPORTANT: the 18 mobs
don't
need to be killed at the

You could get the first group of 6 ready, kill them, do that to the next and so on. The wording makes you believe all 18 should die together, but actually each death should be dealt
through
the Iron Star.
I really thought I had messed up the achievement, all the damage was done through the Iron Stars, so you can basically just stay there, Alt + Tab and come back after a few minutes, then kill Garrosh for the achievement. I could be wrong with this "recipe" but I earned it this way, so maybe everyone can do the same way.

July 2019: A few notes doing this as a decently geared 120 BM Hunter. Don't bother trying to reduce their health. You will just annihilate them and get frustrated.
1) Go to the corner of the room near the star. I chose the corner nearest the gate warbringers spawn from, but it really doesn't matter.
2) Kill Siege Engineers and Farseer Wolf Riders (I marco'd targeting the Farseers but it isn't hard to snipe them as a hunter)
3) Each wave has 6 warbringers. I waited til I had 4 waves and stopped killing Siege Engineers. (I still killed Farseers).
4) Stack against the wall where your star is going to be released and allow it to hit your Warbringers. By this time you would probably have 30 or so in your stack. The stars will kill the more recent waves, but your initial waves should just take damage until you kill the first 18 and get the credit.
5) Once the achievement goes white, kill Garrosh.
I tried the other strats of DPS'ing down to 50% which may work or be needed on a harder mode. This was on 10 man Normal. I had to reset about 5 times and until I read another post on here about allowing them to take only dmg from the stars.
Now if only my final two achievements were solo'able (Go Long & Giant Dinosaur Vs Mega Snail). Trying to find 5 people to do SoO achieves is hard these days /facepalm. Should have done it long ago.

Completed the achievement just now on HC mode as a 110 Hunter with no good legendaries or a high artifact level.
I dismissed my pet completely. Used the target macro for Wolfriders. Waited until I had around 20 or so adds. Used the iron stars to get them to around 30% HP by standing in a corner. Note that for me the opposite iron star hits really hard once it hits the wall. So I would have the iron star hit the adds then I would move to the middle to remove the big damage.
If your hp gets low during the fight I simply multi-shotted the boss and the leech put me right back up at max HP.
I killed and completed the achievement requirement having two iron stars collide into the add back right after the other. Achievement tracker went white and I nuked the boss.

My raid was able to do this last night with about 6 people during BfA as 120's, and here's how -
1. Assign two people to continously kill the Siege Engineers as they spawn - this is to prevent iron stars from disrupting anything you're doing
2. Assign someone to tank Garrosh away from the adds so there's less risk of punching Garrosh to death
3. The rest of everyone can focus on punching (you'll want to remove all gear to prevent involuntary damage and because, with our levels, punching takes about 60% of their health, which means that two punches would result in death)
3a. People punch the Warbringers once to soften them up.
3b. People kill the unnecessary adds to prevent the healing of these adds as well as lessen clutter
3c. Once you are sure you have atleast 18 softened up Warbringers, transition to 4
4. Order 'ONE' of your people from step 1 to not kill the Siege Engineer to trigger Iron Stars, then have the punching group move the softened warbringers into the path of the Iron Star.
5. With luck, it will either kill all, or simply hurt them to very low health. In which case, just wait for one more Iron Star to trigger and you should have the achievement, just make sure to watch if any died from the first one and if that'll prevent you from completing the achievement (if too many died, just order both siege engineers to be killed again until sufficient number of softened Warbringers has been restored)
6. If completed while tracked, the achievement criteria should go from 'red' to 'white', indicating it is time to 'knock unconscious' Garrosh.

Soloing this during BFA...
- staying in one corner of the room, killing nearby seige engineers as they spawn, along with killing every farseer.
- Stackling up tons of Warbringer adds. Way more than 18.
- But they don't die together - because some of them have more +hp stacks than other newer adds.
- Other comments stating you "don't need to kill all 18 with one iron star - not sure about this. Have stacked up tons and tons of adds, and they ONLY take damage from the iron stars + eventually tons die, more than 18 - but no achievement.
- So tickle-damaging all the adds down to ~20% hp might be necessary, to ensure they die regardless of +hp stacks.

Completed by gathering all adds and simply waiting in the path of the wheel. It will drop them to low health. Just keep doing that over and over. Some will die and some will stay alive, just keep letting the wheel hit them.

I did this on HC difficulty and it was very easy to do this, basically what you should do is:
1. Track the achievement (if it turns white you can kill garrosh)
.
2. Stand near one of the iron stars and kill the engineer that spawns near it.
3. Garrosh will spawn 6 adds plus a farseer so kill the farseer and just wait as you keep killing the engineer.
4. After you have a huge amount
(more than 18)
of adds, stop killing the engineer and keep walking into the iron star to kill the adds with it.
5.
Make sure your achievement turns white
and kill garrosh.
6.
Congratz with your achievement!

Uhhh, are the exploding iron stars supposed to one-shot me sometimes at 60? Sometimes they don't hurt me at all when I'm right at the explosion, sometimes they one-shot me when I'm in the middle of the room....

This is a wierd and chaotic one if you solo it. Don't even try keeping track of how many you have and how much HP they have, they'll just blend into a ball of axes and &*!@#$%^&*!@ infront of you.
This is what i did, and it worked great on Normal 10-man (patch 9.1)
1. Stand in front of your chosen Iron Star.
2. Kill engineers and Farseers when they appear.
3. Wait until 4 waves (6*4 = 24 adds in total) of Warbringers have spawned.
4. Move to the opposite side of the room, where "your" Iron Star smashes into the wall. This is for preventing adds getting launched into the other stars path and taking double damage, which will mess things up.
5. Then just stand there, kill Farseers, and let the Iron Stars roll over you.
The Iron Stars will hit your initial 24 adds, which will have a warying amount of HP because of Hellscreams Warsong.
But it doesn't matter. After maybe 3 or 4 stars crashing into you, there will be maybe 12 of the initial adds left, with very little HP.
And during this, more and more adds will spawn in, and they all start at minimum HP (because they haven't been hit by Warsongs Hellscream).
Eventually you will get to a perfect moment, where the oldest adds have about the same HP as the ones that just spawned in.
With a bit of luck, there will be 18 of them getting hit by the same star, all dying.
I gotta be honest, I don't know if the achivement text is correct (18 have to die by the SAME star), or if it is like some other people claimed and you just need to kill 18 with ANY amount of stars. I couldn't keep track of all the adds infront of me, so I couldn't tell you if 18 died from the same star.
All I know is that I followed those 5 steps, and the tracked achivement turned white, so I killed Garrosh and got the achivement. Good luck!

The most recent comments are correct, just stand in place and wait long enough and the tracked achievement will change from red to white. What I want to add is that no matter how much I tabbed around it seemed like none of the mobs were ever at anything but full health. It seemed like it wasn't working but eventually it turned white and I got the achievement. 18 all at once really does seem to not be correct, just 18 in total. Either way it's easy if you just track the achievement and stand there.

As for the patch 10.1 Dragonflight, I did this challenge on mythic difficult and was a bit hard, but still managed to do it solo. The way I did, and a bit of info for the boss was/is:
- I was a human bm hunter (just for reference of passive stats / crit chance I had)
- Be sure to track the achievement so you know if you did it right (it will go from red to white, but take awhile, so dont feign death right way, wait a bit)
- The boss spawn sets of 6 warbringers (and a wolf rider) each time, and before the stars go off (when the engineer finishes it cast), Garrosh will buff their life, during my run they had ~80k life before and 200k after
- The stars wont kill enemies that are on full life AND have a health buff (it seems it was ALWAYS the case for me)
- You only need to kill the engineer on the side of the room you are at, I was on the left side of throne (from his perspective), or the right side (if you face him)
- The health buff Garrosh gives to the warbringers happens just a bit before the engineers spawn, so it can be a bit hard to actually get all 6 to low hp
- For you to lower the warbringers life, (before the fight I got naked) just do a single auto attack on the warbringers that HAVE a health buff, which will bring them down from 200k to ~30k, so even if they get yet another health buff by Garrosh, their life will raise only to 50k, instead of 320k or so if they were full life, it happened that one auto attack was a crit and i killed one warbringer, so I had 17 on the third round, and that is fine, because as the time you have to auto all the engineers once would take more than the time for the engineer to cast, so i was aiming to let the star free only on the 4th spawn
- I suggest just tab-target the warbringers and click a "start auto attack" button, and click on yourself to stop auto attacks, so you dont kill any by mistake
The full run would look like this: Aggro garrosh and go near the wall of one star and wait, when garrosh buffs them, do a single auto attack naked and be sure to kill the engineer, repeat this ~4 times (on the 4th run you can auto about 1-2 warbringers just to be sure and dont kill the engineer so the star can go free, and look for the achievement track to see if it is white (it took a bit for me, so just wait for ~20 seconds)

Solo as dh tank
1 gather everyone and keep them in corner moving from one corner to other to avoid iron star hits
2 when garrosh asks for heals infernal strike onto the one wolf that appears
3 move pack away from purple glowy sword then infernal strike it
4 wait until 18, 3 waves of hog riders jk harbringers
5 let the pack get hit by iron stars until they are all dead
no dps except infernal striking swords and wolf healers

I'm not sure how others were "dodging" the stars but I ended up just sitting there letting them swarm killing the wolf riders and IAT eventually popped off for me to kill Garrosh. Took some time for condition to be met, but overall very easy.
