This achievement is named after tv series
The Twilight Zone
It is very likely since that tv program have been referred earlier in World of Warcraft (
An Exotic Cookbook
)

This achievement is much harder than it's heroic pair. World first completion by
Method
11/28/08, and now 11/30/08 by Kungen from his newly formed guild Ensidia ( which comes from SK and Nihilum ).

So im wondering when you fight the drakes while fighting Sartharion are they still opening twilight portals and what not? Or are they like normal adds?

I suggest to kill Sartharion with 3 drakes with 25men first. It is ALOT easier but the tactic is the same. After you understood what to do, you can try the 10men version.
Roles must be exactly clear, everyone can mess up the whole fight. This fight is mostly about individual skill, movement, dps and knowing when to heal or how to avoid damage. A good setup is 2 tanks and 1 offtank, 3 healer and 4 dps - caster or melees. You need best support ( I guess it will be easier when better gear is available).
As the others said, the 3 drakes will join after a certain time. You have to kill them before killing Sartharion. If you try to nuke Sartharion, the small drakes will go enrage.
Good luck.

If you see anyone with this title now, don't immediately assume they are a great player. There was until the morning of the 8th of January (upon this date it was fixed), a glitch that allowed you to damage Sartharion without aggroing him.
You would send priests specced with reflective shield into the lava, which would reflect onto Sartharion. You could then nuke him down a few thousand health for the killing blow.
This was achieved by a pug on my server, while the best guild on my server has yet to complete it.

OK ... a friend did the bug for 4 hours with 2 priests, he got banned for 72 hours .
edit: his title and items aquired via the exploit got removed.( incl emblems )

Will one be saved if one of the drakes die in the fight, and you die afterwards?

ok so basically, I've read alot about this fight, myself I only did 2 drakes 25 man, never tried 3 drakes, but now I wanna do the 10 man Twilight. The thing I don't understand is, why is this fight so harder on 10 man ? The breaths don't even 1 shoot(or do they?), so if you bring people who know how to move and output sick dps, it shouldn't be THAT much of a problem?

A question that doesn't seem to have been asked:
Why not DPS one of the drakes down to close to dead (probably
Shadron
) then engage
Sartharion
?
You are still
engaging him while all 3 drakes are still alive
, so it seems like this would be the best way to do this, since you're starting the fight with essentially one drake dead.

well, my group did it without heroism (we had used it last try) so i guess that's a world first :P
setup was:
- 1 warrior prot (for drakes)
- 1 dk unholy (for adds)
- 1 feral druid (for sartharion)
- 1 discipline priest
- 1 holy paladin
- 1 elemental shaman (dps only on 1st drake)
- 2 fire mages
- 1 balance druid
- 1 shadow priest
It was not the ideal setup but we knew it was possible.
Thank you for all the comments, they really helped.

The 2 healer 2 tank strategy is not feasable anymore. I could see a 2 tank strategy working, but 3 healers really are required now with the portals. We're trying just nuking through, but twilight torment is really packing a lot of damage. With 2 tanks you will want the Drake tank to pick up adds as well, but they do have a stacking armor reduction effect. Lust on first drake seems best so we get that down safely before a 2nd whelp spawn and Shadron not in for too long. It all goes wrong once the 3rd drake joins, all the damage from adds and twilight torment really add up. We had an average of 3500+ dps per person. I guess this is something of Sunwell level after all!

We (Ruthless Aggression of Illidan US PVP) completed this achievement last night using this setup:
Tanks
-Protection Warrior (tanked Drakes)
-Blood Death Knight (tanked Sartharion)
-Protection Paladin (tanked Whelps and Blazes)
Healers
-Holy Paladin (Sarth tank)
-Resto Shaman (Raid/Drake tank)
-Elemental Shaman (assigned to switch to healing when Vesperon lands)
DPS
-Frostfire Mage
-Arcane Mage
-Boomkin (Balance Druid)
-Shadow Priest
-Elemental Shaman (assigned to switch to healing when Vesperon lands)
We simply dpsed Tenebron when he landed (with BL and speed pots), cleared adds when Tenebron died, dpsed Shadron until Vesperon landed, killed Shadron, then Vesperon, took one portal, then killed Sartharion.

This is an EXTREMELY difficult achievement to accomplish. As of 2/7/09 only 1.3% of all guilds in the world have accomplished this achievement. (
http://wowjutsu.com/world/
)
Our makeup was 3 tanks (Druid, War, DK), 3 healers (Druid, Pally, Pally) and 4 DPS (Ele Sham, Shad Priest, Demon Lock, Arcane Mage).
Like others have suggested, you will need BAMF dps. You'll need the best of the best of your guild and to have them pull roughly 3.5k dps throughout the fight. Our ele sham blew heroism after the first drake and the adds at the time were down.
We had our feral tank Sartharion, the DK on adds, and warrior on drakes. After the drakes were down our warrior taunted Sarth and took over tanking so that our feral tank could switch to kitty for extra dps. Our DK was strictly on adds, but it's certainly possibly to have him/her tank Sarth should the situation call for it and pull this off successfully.
Our resto druid was essentially healing everyone, both raid and tanks, and we had a pally on Sarth tank and Drake thank with split heals to the DK tank. Don't let healing meters deceive you in this make up, as it's normal for the resto druid to have 50% of the healing done, with about 25% done for each of the paladins.
Again, this is extremely difficult to accomplish right now (patch 3.0.8), and you'll need top notch raiders to pull this off. Everyone will need to be on their game, and performance must be flawless. Aside from flasks, consumables, correct buffs/auras, and a whole lot of coordination, do your homework and prepare for a lot of wipes. This will take a lot of practice.
Best of luck to you guys working to accomplish this!

okay, maby this is just me. But you only have to kill sartharion here? why would you even bother killing the drakes then, just tank them on the side and nuke sartharion.
If I'm reading this achievement right, nothing is said about those other drakes, dus kill sartharion and you got it.
So, I'm not sure about 3 drakes, but with 1 drake our guild takes sartharion to around 15% health before the drakes comes in.
These last 15% shouldn't be that hard, even with those drakes up.

My guild(Dynasty of the Ghostlands server) has been trying to do OS3d(it'd be first on our server for the 10 man version) for a few days now, and one of our officers mentioned offhand that I'd be good for the sarth tank(DK, but I dps now) if I could get geared, since he figures I could have lots more burst mitigation for when Sartharion hits the hardest and the buffs take their toll. I decided I'd take his "mention" seriously, and see if there are any suggestions on how I should prepare myself. In my guilds current setup we avoid even touching Sarth, and just position everyone for the burst on the first drake, so I can almost completely forego worrying about threat if my healer could get something like Hand of Salvation, so I've been thinking of a pure(or at least with that mindset) avoidance and damage mitigation build. Any suggestions on gear and spec?
I was thinking mostly frost, but thought maybe I should spec half unholy for the 2 bonuses from Magic Suppresion(5% off to all spell damage and making Anti Magic shell absorb 100% spell), or maybe spell deflection from blood(though it's direct hits, and I'm unsure of how much of the spell damage is from direct hits). Should I go far enough into frost for acclimation and guile of gorefiend, and put the rest in blood for spell deflection?, or go a little shorter into frost and put the rest into unholy for Magic Suppresion?
Basically, what I'm asking, is what should a DK tank look for as an all out Sarth 3d tank. I can afford speccing and gearing up specifically for this, if it's for "guild renown and progression".

With the new patch upcoming (3.1.0) new and better gear will be available. People will be able to do this quite easier. Once Icecrown comes around, this will probably be on farm by a lot of top notch raid guilds. Pulling maybe 6-7k dps, 40k health unbuffed, crazy big heals? Getting the black drake mount won't be as prestige. In my opinion, I think it may be as common as the amani war bear at around the end of the x-pac. However...
Ulduar isn't the first dungeon to include
hard mode
, but it certainly makes the most use of it. Out of 14 bosses, 11 will have a hard mode that offers
additional challenges and rewards
.

With this, there will always be something harder to look forward to.

Currently, the hardest encounter in the game right now due to the fact that it requires a perfect group set up (melee heavy seems to work the best) and since you cant sacrifice dps over a healer. Going with two healers is the way to go.

Finally got this on 3/2/2009 with:
Holy Priest
Resto Shaman
Resto Druid
----
Ret Pally
Affliction Lock
Frostfire Mage
Elemental Shaman
----
Lock + VW tank
Prot Warr
Feral Druid Tank
Also had a paladin waiting outside for a 2nd paladin buff.
Voidwalker base health with raid buffs: 68.7k (82.6k with Demonic Empowerment). Lock tank used VW + Health Funnel glyphs. The warlock tanks health was 34.9k. (
Link to spec
) Warlock tank also used all frost resist gear with all +24 stam gems including frost resist ring. Stam enchants on helm, shoulders, gloves, boots. All +24 stam gems in hateful gladiator gear, wintergrasp cloth pvp boots, and void star talisman trinket.
The lock tank pulled with Fel Armor on to buff the Void's AP for aggro gain and to aide in DPS'ing drakes, then switched to Demon Armor after the 2nd drake died to buff the void's armor.
The lock tank dps'd both tenebron and shadron letting the priest solo heal the voidwalker. When adds became too numerous, dps focus turned briefly to AoE on the adds, including the lock tank. Once shadron died, dps + resto shaman went into the portal to kill acolytes. DPS held off on killing the 2nd acolyte briefly to allow the fire wall to pass. Once back up top, DPS focused on vesperon. When the next vesperon acolyte spawned, vesperon himself was fairly low. We chose to dps'd through torment to kill veperon, then killed the acolyte.
From there, the voidwalker tanked Sartharion as long as he held threat. Our feral tank began to build aggro and was to taunt if the voidwalker died or lost threat. Eventually, the feral tank's threat over took the void's and he tanked it the rest of the way.
Total combat time: 9mins 2 sec.
Average raid dps while in combat: 15.3k
Combat log entries of note:
Sartharion melee swing hits Voidwalker for 21609 Physical. (Critical)
Sartharion melee swing hits Voidwalker for 6141 Physical.
Sartharion Flame Breath hits Voidwalker for 6841 Fire. (4927 Resisted)
Sartharion Cleave hits Voidwalker for 447 Physical.

Just got this last night with my guild. It took us quite a bit of tries with the comp:
Warrior/Druid/DK tank (Druid on Boss)
Shadow Priest/Mage/Boomkin/Hunter DPS
Shaman (me)/ Priest / Paladin healer (Priest healing MT, disc).
After several attempts which we realized were going nowhere, we switched the group comp up and ended up with:
DK tank/Druid tank/DK tank (better geared DK on boss, second DK on adds (not drakes), druid on Drakes
Shadow Priest/Mage/Boomkin/Warrior dps (the warrior who had been tanking respecced)
Shaman (me)/Priest/Paladin Healer (disc priest on MT).
After setting stuff up, clearing respawned adds and flasking, etc. we killed him after 2 attempts. First attempt just failed because the priest healer got an unlucky combination of void zone/firewall. Because of this on the next (and last) attempt we had myself stay out of the portal for the 3rd drake and the Shadow Priest heal inside the portal (the things hit very weakly, and we had the DPS warrior throw on a sword & board). After that it was very easy.
I
strongly
recommend having a very well geared Blood Death Knight tank for Sartharion, healed by a Discipline priest. With any other class, it is extremely hard to survive the massive damage that the Flame Breaths do later on in the fight without cooldowns and large magic damage reduction.
I also recommend that as a cautionary measure, the DPS know that while Twilight Torment is active, STOP HITTING YOUR TARGET WHEN YOU GO BELOW 50%. It can crit and do a huge amount of damage to you if you aren't careful.
Definitely harder than 25 man due to the limited amount of DPS you can have because of the 3-tank requirement. However, much more fun in compensation.

Very, very challenging encounter.
Done with :
Holy priest ( Healing Sartharion's tank and whelps tank )
FFB mage
Holy paladin (Healing whelps and drake tank and raid healing )
Blood DK ( Tanking Sartharion )
Unholy DK
Prot paladin ( Tanking Whelps )
Prot warrior ( Tanking drakes )
Elemental shaman
Shadow priest
Fury warrior
In terms of strategy, this fight is not difficult. It is executing it properly and having good luck to avoid damage, or getting a lucky string of critical hits for DPS.
As the holy priest, I would have our prot paladin in our focus window to shield him every cooldown and heal him whenever he went low.
The healer on Sartharion's tank should
ALWAYS
be precasting a big heal when Sartharion starts to cast flame breath.
The holy paladin used Beacon on the Whelp and drake tank. Glyph of holy light sufficed for raid healing, but our elemental shaman would throw out chain heals as necessary.
The hardest part about this fight is killing Tenebron and Shadron fast enough before everyone is overwhelemed by whelps. Once those two are dead, it becomes exponentially easier to kill Vesperon, then Sartharion.
Heroism should be used at around the time the second drake lands to finish off Tenebron as fast as possible and punish Shadron as much as possible.
After Tenebron and Shadron are dead and Vesperon puts up his aura that damages attackers, our shadow priest and elemental shaman healed inside the portal while our designed healers stayed outside healing the tanks.
Once Vesperon is dead, it is pretty much a victory, as Sartharion's flame breath should only start hitting for a bare minimum amount and there are no more void zones or particularily dangerous adds to worry about. (Lava blazes easily picked up and finished off)
Good luck to everyone that tries this. Once you have this nailed, your plagued proto drake shouldn't be any harder.
You should hurry with that plagued proto drake too, before they remove it.

Did it with:
1 warlock: 77k voidwalker w/ kings/fort/mark (Sarth tank during drakes)
2 tanks: warrior (on drakes) + paladin (on adds)
2 healers: disc priest (on Sarth tank) / druid (on raid)
5 dps: Fury warrior / mut rogue (anesthetic poison for adds) / hunter (MD on tanks) / ret paly (offheals) / ele shaman (offheals)
Everyone needs to: 1) avoid firewalls 2) avoid blue circles
Voidwalker tanks Sarth on front left of island, positioned where left firewalls won't hit.
Warrior tanks 1st drake down in back of island. DPS it quick. Warlock can help DPS on 1st drake to burn it faster, but his priority should be to health funnel voidwalker during bad firewalls (the ones from the right) to reduce damage, then reposition the voidwalker after firewall debuff disappears. Paladin leaves consecrates near portal to pick up whelp adds faster.
After 1st drake down, DPS whelp adds to get them out of the way, then DPS 2nd and 3rd drake. Should AoE down fire adds right after lava walls to keep them under control. Shaman can also heroism here to help take down then 2nd drake faster to reduce the chance of the drake tank getting double-breathed and ease healing.
After 3 drakes down, everyone in raid except 1) warlock/voidwalker, 2) the healers and 3) the add tank goes into portal to burn alcolytes down. Retpaly and ele shaman offheal in the portal while drake tank picks up alcolytes one at a time. After alcolytes are down warrior tank picks up Sarth in same position. Keep fire adds to a minimum while dpsing Sarth. It's just like 0 drake Sarth now.
At 5% Sarth enrages. Focus and burn Sarth. Offtank the adds and don't worry about them until Sarth is dead.

Not to rain down on anyone's parade or anything, but am I the only one who thinks it's "cheating" to have a voidwalker tank here instead of a player?

We just downed 3D 10 man. Group makeup was:
Tank DK on Drakes
Prot Paladin on Adds
Feral Druid on Sarth
Holy Priest on Sarth Tank
Resto Druid on everything else
DPS:
Warrior
Pally
Hunter
Boomkin
DK
This fight was insanely difficult but we managed to do it without a heroism and a pretty terrible group makeup overall. As a healer (druid) this fight was incredibly intense. We had the boomkin help out with healing on the drake tank and pop Tranq during twilight torment. He also healed inside the portal once Vesperon was down.
Good luck!

Just got it tonight. 3/13/09
Resto Shaman
Disc Priest
Blood Dk
x2 Fury Warriors
Retapally
Warrior Tank
Pally Tank
Druid Tank
Ele shaman
We had the Druid and Priest alternate cool-downs on Sarth, whilst the shaman kept the raid alive during the first and second drake. First drake was down then moved to the third drakes landing spot, and picked up. At that point the tank popped cooldowns while the addtank, which was the pally, had the ele shaman chainheal himself and melee, with the resto shaman chainhealing the warrior tank. Once the second drake was down, we took a deep breath, and focused.
All dps went in, and the tanks and healers stayed up. Killing both disciples in the portals, then popping back up, dpsing on drake, then back in. And out. This continued for about 2 minutes for another heroism pop. At that point, we downed the drake, then just focused on Sarth. With careful and avoiding fatfingers, we kept the tank up and got our nifty of the Nightfall.
Hope this helps people :) I would go into more depths but not going into rotations and such on the dps. Just know that I kept all my cd's, and did more then chainheals, unlike the popular Resto shaman belief on how to play.

Downed him yesterday night too :) 3 tanks / 3 healers / 4 dps setup.
Tanks:
Blood DK - Satharion Tank
Prot Warrior - Drake Tank
Prot Paladin - Add Tank
Heal:
Holy Pala - he was healing me + beacon on drake tank
Resto Druid - drake tank healer
Disc Priest - Sath tank healer
DPS:
Ele Shaman - offhealing in portals
Fire Mage
Affi Lock
Surv Hunter
We killed Tenebron before 2nd add wave without heroism, Vesperon landed when Shadron had 90% hp. We cleared portal two times after Shadron died and after Vesperon. When they died it was easy, we used hero on Satharion, was on cd during drake part :P. You will need a lot of luck in this fight :P

Done it without killing any adds.
1 tank: prot warior
1 healer: holydin
8 dd: 2 ench shammys, retrodin, fury warrior, feral dps, hunter(me), dk and rogue
tactic:
Sarth tanks in center.
md on tank->charge->heroism->full dps
when Tenebron lands, tank takes him and did some aggro (10k will be enough). Pal use sacrifice and go bubble. After first lava wave ends, hunter by using distracting shot kites tenebron away from tank, because two breaths on tank is a oneshot. How to kite: ds->run away->ds->fd->ds->deterrence->ds->disengage. Use AotC at you own risk! (elem can spawn and daze you, or sarth hits fireball in you). warlock's stone end heal pot helps to survive. Rest of dpsers use haste potion. (When tenebron lands, sarth must have approximately 30% HP)
Throughout a fight warriors fear elems and whelps, rogue removes enrage when it needed.
Сertainly, we had mage, warlock and priest out of a dungeon to buff us.
The whole fight should occupy no more, than minute of 20 seconds or about that (Before the second drake will arrive)
Thanks for attention and excuse for my bad english :)

Completed as of 3/31... cutting it close to the next patch.
Anyway, raid setup is as follows
1 Unholy DK tank (Sarth tank)
1 Prot War tank (drake tank)
1 Prot Pally tank (add tank)
1 Unholy DK dps (consequently, me)
2 Mage dps (arcane + frostfire)
1 Elemental Shammy dps
1 Shadow Priest dps (imp VE)
1 Holy pally healer (Sarth tank + drake tank healer)
1 Resto druid healer (add tank + raid healer)
We positioned Sartharion horizontally (as you're facing him before the pull) around the middle of the large island (a little bit more towards the pull area, so off-center I guess). The strategy we used is pretty much the same as the 25 man 3 drake OS. Since we had 5 dps instead of 4 due to only having 2 healers, we burned Tenebron down without Bloodlust and was able to avoid the second spawn of adds (while not trivial, it won't kill you if a second set spawns). Then (after clearing adds), we blew bloodlust and zerged Shadron down fairly quickly. The key is to zone into the portal immediately and kill Shadron's disciple to avoid the Sarth tank dying to the flame breaths without cooldowns (we also had the holy pally's cd's in rotation with the tank's). No healer should zone into the portal, as we had the spriest and ele shammy offheal while I tanked the disciples in frost presence (take care not to aggro both disciples on first portal). After that it's pretty much a slow dps burn towards the finish with easy portal hops.
Some key points that I think people should note:
-The 3.5k dps required from your dpsers I've heard pretty much holds true. I find it simply easier to have 1 or 2 dps assigned to proximity-aoe'ing the adds (while dps'ing the drake) while all others burn the drakes. By the end most of the single target dpsers had ~4k dps while the aoers had ~6k (quite an epeen boost). I do recommend an unholy dk to aoe the adds for they can do it while doing really decent damage to the drakes. But of course, most classes that has some sort of aoe should do well.
-Always try to tank the adds (whelps + elementals) around the drake that's being dps'd so aoe takes care of most of them (unholy dk aoe, ww from a war, spriest, etc).
-What worked for us was 2 healers and 5 dps instead of 3 healers and 4 dps (what we tried weeks before). Due to the holy pally's ability to almost heal 2 tanks at once, the extra dps really made the dps crunch trivial. It's definitely possible to do it with 4, but 5 dps made it easier for us. Spriest's raid healing also helped a ton.
-Save the bloodlust for Shadron.
-Thank your healers.

Got it last night with a 3/3/4 setup.
Feral tank on sarth (54k prepull health, 230 FR with totem and enchants)
Warrior on drakes
Unholy DK on adds
Disc Priest on sarth tank
Resto Shaman on adds tank/raid
Resto druid on drake tank/raid
For dps myself ret paladin
Surv Hunter
Blood DK
Ele Shaman.
Popped bloodlust after first wave and nuked down Tenebron before he spawned the second wave of whelps.
After tenebron died we cleaned up the adds and started on Shadron. At this point, it is up to your sarth tank and sarth healer to stay alive long enough to finish of Shadron (dps was slow on Shadron our kill attempt and ate around 5-6 fully buffed sarth breaths). Since the Unholy DK was able to finish adds as they came up, healing on the add tank was a joke, and the two other healers could concentrate more on the raid taking a lot of damage from twilight torment.
Once Shadron fell the resto shaman and 4 dps jumped into the portal, since there were no adds alive, killing Vesperon's acolyte first (taking away twilight torment and 75% more breath damage), then Shadrons acolyte, and then Vesperon acolyte again (we also had eggs, but you don't have to kill them since Tenebron cant hatch them and finishing them would be a waste of time).
Zoned out of the portal and burned down Vesperon, ignoring the next portal that spawned with 400k health left. After Vesperon died, Warrior took over tanking sarth, so feral druid could innervate and help dps.
Killed the last acolyte that had spawned, and then finished sarth.
All said and done our dps was all 4k+ for the whole fight.
Good luck with getting this done before the patch for Glory of the Raider!

some russions made a "nuke it" - tactic
they took 4 furys(dps) 2 dks(melee support) 1 rogue(tricks of trade) 1 tankpala(sartharion tank + sol) feraldruid (first dps -> 30% taunt and run) 1 healshaman(bloodlust)
fight:
engage sartharion with 3 drakes and nuke sartharion as fast as possible. the rogue use tot on cooldown on the tankpaladin and the tankpaladin tanks the first drake and sartharion. just dps dps dps dps until 30%.
at this point the cat druid switch to bear taunt the drake and run away into nowhere, because the drake enrage when sartharion hits 20%.
the druid will die and you have to nuke the last 20% very fast.
everyone will die but sartharion too.
you have 85 seconds to do until the 2nd drake will come down and give sartharion immunity.

After the Russian movie I assume alot of guilds will be trying the zerg strat.
We completed it today after 2 days worth of attempts(using zerg strat ofcourse).
http://wowwebstats.com/ex4brxo5f3wji
The basic idea is you have to get lucky and not have the tank, drake or DPS move from 100% to 0%.
Just need to be in a safespot for two waves. Pop BL after the first wave has passed completely, have someone(anything) that can taunt kite the drake and pray for dear life that Tenebron doesn't come to obliterate you till the big guy is dead.

It is a world where not all is as it seems.
Where you may start out fighting one dragon but end up fighting 4.
It is... the Twilight Zone.

Azgalor fastest zerg today...
Setup was:
Prot Paladin (Slippie of End Result)
(Me) Holy Paladin (Rord of House Sole)
Blood DK (Afx of Social Butterflies)
Unholy DK (Pioblood of End Result)
Surv Hunter (Catawba of End Result)
Enhance Shammy (Simos of Southern Gentlemen)
Muilate Rogue (Hyorin of End Result)
Arms Warrior (Gustave of End Result)
Doomkin (Zenara of House Sole)
Demo Lock (Satansangel of End Result)
Wiped once on first attempt do to the hunter failing to kite Tenebron away from the tank, which resulted in him being shotted. Second attempt, hunter failed again, but i hand of sacrificed the tank, bubbled myself and the tank blew all of his cooldowns, while I spammed the hell out of Holy Light. The tank survived until Sarth was at 3%, which the dps finished him off before he could breathe on us.
Total time in combat: 62 seconds
All dps was above 4.5k, with the highest (Afx) at 6.8k. Both DK's popped army of the dead right off the bat, so ghouls flying everywhere!

Got it last night wasnt too bad.
Prot Warrior MT
2 ret pallys
DK (unholy)
Feral druid
Resto shaman
MS warrior
Frost mage
2 Rogues (2 combat)
We pretty much blew heroism 10 second into the fight and blew all our cd's. We had the feral druid kite the second drake that lands where sarth is to where the first drake normally stands. Was pretty easy took us a few attempts but we nailed it.
We have either 25 Naxx gear lvl or better and pulled at least 4k DPS or higher.

Tenebron has recently been made
immune
to hunter's
Distracting Shot
in 10 man. For a hunter(
specifically
) to kite him away from Sartherion in the high DPS burn strategy, they will need to switch to Tene at about 40% and out-damage the tank's threat generation. I have not heard of any other classes' taunts giving back an immune for him in 10 man, at this point in time.

Killed it today and got the achievement via the zerg tactic.
We used the following setup:
Enhancement Shaman (Me)
Resto Shaman
2 Arms Warriors
Rogue
Feral Druid DPS for kiting Tenebron (Still works)
Unholy Death Knight tank
2 Death Knight DPS
Ret Paladin (for kings/bom mainly)
We all were fully flasked, we used Fish Feasts every attempt, and we bought everybody Haste Potions.
We engaged Sartharion at the back, and the DK tanked him facing away from our starting point. Everybody popped all cooldowns and got debuffs up, and 5s into the fight we popped Heroism and our haste potions for maximum DPS. Warriors were assigned to stacking sunders, which boosted the melee heavy raid's DPS a LOT. They lost about 1.5k DPS each, but the bonus DPS on Sarth by the rest of the raid cancelled it out. When Tenebron landed, the DK tank picked him up and tanked him till Sarth hit 30%, at which point the Feral Druid went bearform, taunted Tenebron, went cat form, and ran like hell. We managed to kill him
just
before the 2nd drake landed, an extremely close kill. DBM counted our kill as lasting 1 minute and 20 seconds.
This was done as a PuG, so yes, it IS PuGgable if the raid is geared enough. Only the Warriors were under 5k DPS, the one doing 3.6k, and the other 4.2k.
Good luck with your attempts, hope this helped.

Contrary to popular opinion, the normal version of this achievement is actually much easier than the heroic equivalent. Rather than turning your attention to the other three drakes when they come down, it is easier to simply dps Sarth down before the second drake even lands. Here was our group makeup:
2 Warlocks (both destruction)
2 Mages (one fire and one arcane)
2 Druids (one feral and one balance)
1 Shaman (elemental)
1 Hunter (survival)
1 Paladin (protection)
1 Priest (discipline)
It is recommended that the group either be all casters or all melee to keep buffs together.
Our tank, healer, and feral druid all came at Sarth from his back right and started the fight. We kept the healer stacked on tank to keep adds on tank, while all the casters sat in front of where Sarth starts and began to dps as soon as he was pulled. Tenebron comes down after 30 seconds, at which point heroism/bloodlust was popped. Once Sarth's health reaches 30% all three mini-bosses go into a beserker rage, during which they hit harder than the healer can heal through. To combat this, at 30%, our feral druid taunted Tenebron and ran away, pulling Tenebron away from the fight. Then the rest of us simply finished Sarth.
When the second drake lands, the twilight tormentor is out, during which time Sarth goes immune to all attacks. As such, you only have about 79-82 seconds to down Sarth. Therefore, you need an average dps of 4200-4500 to successfully do this fight (Our two warlocks and one mage put out about 6k each for us).
Complicated as it sounds, we got the achievement for the first time on the third pull, in a pug. The video can be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO1LOkTyz4I
Good luck and enjoy!

we left him with 300k hp and would be able to do it(but i messed up it up in the end cause i got hit by firewall in my try to save the 42k dk unholy tank).
A bit of a problem in this fight as we saw was that dk tank could not hold aggro from everyone at least half times.
The Set up was:
UH dk tank(42k hp)
1frost dps dk( no enh shaman in raid)
1blood dk
1feral(dps/tank dudu)
1retadin
1fury warrior
1elemental shaman
1arca mage
1destro lock

This achievement is easiest done by the "zerg" way. You get a group comp of the following:
1 tank
1 healer
8 DPS (They must pull 4.5k+ dps and 1 of those dps MUST be a Shaman unless you're using a resto shaman)
And 1 of those dps has to kite Tenebron around 30-20%.
The whole point of the Zerg is to burst Sartharion down from 100% to 0% within 80 seconds, while still Avoiding flame walls and void zones. Because a couple dps dying is calling a wipe. The best healer for this is probably a Shaman. For the Zerg you stand in the back like you're going to Tenebron. When you pull him the tank will run up to him on his mount hit him with whatever he needs to. His head should be facing the lava. About the kiting strategy, when Sartharion reaches low health, whatever drakes are still left will go into a berserk mode same as Patchwerk, making it impossible to heal through the shadow breaths from Tenebron. The whole objective for the Zerg to to dps him within 80 seconds as I said above, and before Shadron lands, once Shadron lands you have about a 10 second time frame to dps before Sarth goes immune.
For the kiting I recommend a Druid goes into bear form and taunts then cat form dashes, or a DK taunts and goes into Unholy presence and runs, either way you will probably die in the end, the whole point is to take the drake off the tank when it enrages for as long as you can. And by the time you start kiting, Sarth should be around 20% health and by the time the drake kills you, Sarth should be dead. Cheers!

Just downed this zerg style....took us quite a few tries but with bloodlust, elixirs, and haste potions we were able to take him down in 73 seconds. We popped bl 5 seconds into the fight. When the first drake came down one of the feral druids kited him in cat form. After then second fire wall the holy pally bubbled so he could strictly focus on keeping the tank up. I think that holy pally is the best option for healer if you're gonna zerg. They can beacon the tank, sacred shield, and have two instant crits in the beginning of the fight (divine favor, holy shock because the tank will take 20 to 30% dmg first hit, and then instant FoL or big HL depending on his health). All 8 dps were between 4k and 6k dps...make sure to get haste potions we failed many times and downed him first try once we had those potions..looking to farm the mount now :D

My guild and I finally downed him with 3 Drakes about a month ago. Our setup was:
Prot Warrior
Arms Warrior
Warlock x2(One Destro., the other Afflic.)
Feral Druid x2
Enhancement Shaman
Ret Paladin
Resto Druid (me)
Combat Rogue (Fist MH Dagger OH)
As you can see it was very melee oriented with the exception of the warlocks. Everyone was flasked, buffed (even with fort from one of our 80 priest alt), and had the feast buff. On our kill, no one was hit by the firewall. If someone does get hit by the firewall, they will probably die (increased damage, lower health, hard to heal more than one person by the time the wall comes up). As soon as we killed Sartharion and got the achievement, we wiped.
For anyone who is trying to get this achievement, don't give up! It may seem hard at first, but if your group has great dps (at least above 3.5k) then you will have no problem downing this guy.
Edit: You will also need heroism/bloodlust for this fight. I don't think it is possible without it.

Did this tonight via zerg, took us like 5 attempts due to RNG but we got it, Just a note you want to bring as much dps as you can, thats all this fight really requires and a little bit of luck
Also what helped us was we had a Ret Pally who taunted Tenebron off the Tank so he would not get one shotted, another good way to Taunt Tenebron is get a Druid to go bear taunt, then go cat form and sprint and run as far as possible
Good Luck, really fun fight

For anyone zerging, it is notable that Tenebron enrages when Sartharion is low on health (I think around 25%) and it will be extremely difficult to keep the tank up during that time. You may want to save your bloodlust and other bursty cooldowns for that time or have someone taunt Tenebron and run away while the rest of the group kills Sartharion.

Dunno about other servers, but this is PuGable on Lightning's blade EU, did it yesterday and several other people pugged it already, all PuGs use zerg tacs what makes the fight rather easy.
Edit: took me 3 times with PuG.

There was a hotfix put in for this fight with 3.2 that I confirmed tonight. Sartharion now goes immune to all damage when the second drake lands, as far as we could tell, so you have to either get the kill in 74 seconds or kill all three drakes. We were getting him to 25-30% in 75 seconds so our dps tonight wasn't cutting it with this new hotfix. Not quite sure why they would still allow you to perform something they have clearly decided was an exploit provided you had the gear level for it. If you are in mostly Ulduar 10/25 gear it's okay to zerg, but if you are still in Naxx gear, it's an exploit? Seems like an odd change to the fight to me since out-gearing the place makes it less of an achievement.
Edited to add how far down we were getting Sarth as a reference because the hotfix could be if he reaches a certain health percentage before any drakes are killed, but from what we saw it looked as if it's linked to Shadron's landing.
Addendum: Tried regular 3d method after finding the hotfix and are able to confirm that Sarth goes immune when Shadron lands, regardless of his health.

SimplyDK
You do realize that there is no such hotfix?
However, the 'hotfix' you experienced is truly a change in Shadron's abilities from when he is fought alone compared to when he is fought with Sartharion.
When Shadron is fought alone, his Acolyte inside the portal increases
shadow damage from Shadron by 50%
and
makes Shadron immune to all incoming damage.
When Shadron is fought in conjunction with Sartharion, Shadron's Acolyte inside the portal instead
increases Fire damage from Sartharion by 50% AND makes SARTHARION go immune to all incoming damage.
This has always been the case, has not changed, nor been hotfixed.

Hey all, Just did this achievement, we did the zerg method, (1 tank, 1 healer, 8 highly geared dps). This achievement is very dps dependent, all the dps were pulling 4.2K+.We had a Feral druid kite the 1st drake as far away from raid group as possible before he died. and downed sarth just after the 2nd drake got down. It took us about 4 attempts. as of patch 3.2, I think this achievement is most likely a lot easier (because of huge gear improvements). but over all, it was a fun and challenging achievement. =)

Completed this earlier tonight with the following group setup:
One Prot Pally
One Resto Boomkin
Four Arcane Mages
One Warlock the spec of which slips my mind
One Boomkin
One Arms Warrior
One Elemental Shaman
Tactic was to blow Bloodlust and all CDs on the pull - this ensured Sarth was at or just under 50% when Tenebron lands, the Pally then taunts her and tanks her momentarilly, the Arms Warrior then taunts her off the MT at 40% and runs like Hell, aiming to get her as far away from the group as possible for the berserk at 25%.
At 25% Tenebron berserks and oneshots the Warrior as soon as she catches him, then turns around and slowly makes her way through all of the DPS - Sarth is down to 100K at this point and the MT pops everything he has and manages to take down the last of Sarth's HP just before Tenebron can turn him into paste.
Average DPS in the group was around 4.4K, but the fourth arcane mage only managed to pull 3.3K
This achievement is relativley simple now as long as you can churn out some impressive DPS, dont get hit by the lava walls and you can get Tenebron far enough away from the group in order to buy them enough time to nuke his last 800K or so HP.

We just did this tonight with 1 tank, 1 healer and 8 dps.
Simple zerg strategy. You still need to avoid the lava walls and the circles.
After the first drake comes down the tank picked him up and we continued to nuke Sarth. You have until the second drake comes down to finish him or he becomes immune and you lose.
Oh and don't listen to people who claim you need to be melee dps heavy.
Of our 8 DPS we had 7 ranged and one melee.
2x hunters
2x warlocks
2x mage
1 elemental shaman.
1 dps warrior.

Zerged this last night, 1 tank, 1 healer, 8 DPS
Group consisted of;
Protection Warrior (me)
Discipline Priest
Retribution Paladin
Combat Rogue
Survival Hunter x2
Marksman Hunter
Enhancement Shaman
Arms Warrior
Arcane Mage
All in Ulduar10/ToC10/Triumph gear; I had 38k health unbuffed to give you an idea of the gear-level we were at.
Strat was; clear all patrols, skirting around the drakes. When cleared, healer and DPS gather on the small rock "islands" to the south-west of Sarth, mounted. Tank mounts up and heads to the normal pull point to the east, facing Sarth.
Tank pops an Indestructible Potion, mounts up and charges, turning Sarth to face north; DPS rides in from their position behind Sarth and gets on him. Heroism popped immediately, along with DPS cooldowns. This position offers the best means of sidestepping flame-walls; it goes without saying you still need to avoid them; a single healer can't deal with any raid damage on top of what the tank’s taking.
By the time Tenebron landed we had Sarth at 200k. Hunter kited Tenebron to the south east corner of the island (diagonally opposite corner to the tank), priest Pain Supressed herself to survive any add/aoe damage, I used Shieldwall followed by Last Stand to mitigate as much of the damage as possible before death. Rest of the DPS just kept hammering Sarth regardless.
Raid were all dead by the time Sarth was at 1%, but dot ticks finished him off.
Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, the raid will die. But yes, you'll get your achievement(s), title, and a ten percent chance at a black drake mount. Was quite a night, we’d got Knock, Knock, Knock on Wood just before which inspired us to try this.

"Sporeggar" EU server
I've completed that yesturday. The most funny, that I wasn't even going to do that. Some dumb guy organized such a PUG but with guys who did less 3k dps (I was the only over 4k) and without shaman. After 2 wipes I left, and gathered group that have done it!
We had
-one
Paladin tank
-one
Holy Priest
(
the only healer
) (however, its's believed that best healer for this would be
Paladin
or
Discipline Priest
, I didn't bother to find them :p)
-3x ranged dps (me, hunter and Warlock)
-5x Melee dps
Our specialities:
-Shaman has put totem whi was buffing melee dps.
-Some of use used Hallow's End sweets. :p
-We didn't sdtart from the side of portal, but from the side of right wing of Sarathion (left gorge if look from portal)
-Warlock casted curse which lowered Sarathion's damage against tank
Our disadvantages:
-We hadn't arms warrior, for atack power buff for melee dps.
-Warlock's curse didn't increse any dps (but helped tank)
-Our tank has foregotten to use SS, that time we had wipe. And then did it without SS
-2 Shamans had Reincarnation on CD during that time we completed achievement.
(I'll edit message, if I'll be to remember something)

Managed it on 10/25/09 with:
1 pally tank
1 pally healer
8 dps between 3.5 and 5.5k.
Burst him down in under 83 seconds and, other than the pally using Righteous Fury on the healer, ignored the adds. The only problem we had was that our tank was one shot as we came close to downing him. To counter act this, we spread out a bit for the few extra seconds of dps as he went from person to person.

ML linked mount, we all rolled and i was highest with 87, a pause that seemed to last forever happened while 2 people who must ahve been afk were waited on. I was worried that the leader was having a "should i ninja2 moment. But i thankfully won the mount and hapilly ran outside to use it :D

I'm surprised there aren't more comments about the zerg strat on here (I did most of my research about it at elitists jerks though), but I wanted to post one because when I finally got this achievement, we did it slightly different than the most typical zerg strat.
Generally, as stated toward the top of the page, you zerg with one tank, one healer and eight dps, one of whom is a feral druid who will kite Tenebron away at 30-35%. Gear has gotten to the point where it makes basically no difference whether or not you have all melee or not (which someone said was needed above). A shaman is still required for bloodlust in most cases.
While this strategy is still mostly accurate, when we did this we used two tanks instead of attempting to kite Tenebron off. I actually am a feral druid, but our raid leader didn't want to sacrifice my dps. We blew life-saving CDs (Pally tank Ardent Defender, Guardian Spirit, etc. etc.) around Tenebron enrage, kept tank up as best we could, when he dropped, heals went on second tank who blew life-saving CDs. I went bear after first tank dropped and thought about trying to pick it up when second tank died, but by then it didn't really matter. Boss was dying, no doubt about it. Went back to cat dps.
We didn't even wipe (most claim this strat inevitably leads to a wipe). Mage blinked out and I dashed out. Two alive, a wipe does not make.

No need to kite Tenebron away, we managed to simply zerg Sarth with 8dps/tank/healer in a poor class setup (the only raid buffs we had were heroism, gotw and +5% crit, no paladins and no priest buffs) and a druid tank.
All dpsers were doing between 5-7k dps + 2.2k tank. Got the title in 4th attempt.
It's a shame that one of the hardest to obtain titles is now fully puggable in the zerg tactic :(

Got this last night, standard zerg. (We did have the rogue go in and vanish to despawn Sarth so we could set up at the west end of the island.)
1 paladin (tank)
2 druids (balance and a resto)
3 mages (2 arcane, 1 fire)
1 rogue (unsure of his spec)
1 unholy dk
1 enh shammy
1 MM hunter
Few wipes due to stupid mistakes here and there. Finally got him, downed him in 56 seconds. O_O Enh shammy got the black drake. Fun times. Arcane mages were topping out at 10.5k dps, the meters ended with them around 8k, myself at 7.5k, DK and rogue around 7-7.5k. Had a couple on the lower DPS end, but the shammy was off spec dps. This was a spur of the moment type of thing, so we really just needed bodies for this.
Things can still go wrong here, even with so many players out gearing the place. The little lava adds on the healer, bad luck with Eclipse procs, etc etc. Pugs can zerg this successfully, but even now, still have to be on your toes. GL to everyone out there still workin' on it.

Can be a tough achievement even now, but I finally have it after about 8 wipes and 4 replacements.
Raid setup on successful attempt:
Healer: Resto shammy
Tank: Prot warrior, Feral Druid picking up Tenebron when he landed
DPS: Feral Druid (me), Arms warrior, Survival hunter, Ret pala x3, someone else (can't remember class, I think it was a DK)
Wasn't the highest DPS group, the hunter was doing 8k, and one of the retridins was doing 6k, but apart from that it was all 4-5k.
We just ran in, nuked Sarth to 40%, then tenebron landed. The MT picked her up at first, then let the feral take her away. Previous wipes were caused because the tank thought he had lost aggro to some overzealous DPS, and everyone got hit by the breath.
The achievement is quite forgiving with the current level of gear; we had our arms warrior and a retridin flamewalled, and our shammy got voidzoned, but I just BRed the shammy and we carried on.

It's fairly easy to do with 1 tank 1 healer.
Kill all the adds but leave the drakes, if you pull a drake, wipe the raid.
It's a good idea to have a rogue pull the boss and vanish, so that your raid is setup when sarth reappears.
Have the tank pull him and do max DPS at the start.
The damage the tank will tank will be fairly negligible until tenebron comes down, so the healer can do some DPS to help out.
Tenebron hits extremely hard, he hit my tank for 25k, wiping the raid, however, if you bring a priest healer, that shouldn't be a problem.
The flame walls are almost a guaranteed death for anyone who gets hit, as the healer will already be hard-pressed trying to heal everyone.
And as a dragon, sarth does a cone and a tailswipe (as well as a cleave), so don't try to avoid flame walls by running infront or behind the boss, as you will probably die.
Remember to never kill the drakes, with everyone doing 6k DPS, you should have sarth down before one minute.

Not sure why this hasn't been mentioned yet but..
On 10man +3 drakes, the zerg method will more often than not, end with the tank being 1 shot by a shadow or fire breath. (This doesn't mean failure - most of the successful runs I've done end with Sartharion being killed with 2 or 3 dps/healers left alive, who are then nibbled to death by the small adds.)
Once Sartharion hit's 35% with at least one drake alive (zerg), she Berserks, and the Berserk also effects the drakes.
So from 35% until Sartharion's death, your tank can be hit with the following:
(Remember the raid, including the tank, has 25% lower max health than normal)
Shadow Breath: 69380-80620 shadow damage
Flame Breath: 87500-112500 fire damage
Melee from Sartharion(swings slow) + Tenebron(swings much quicker than sartharion): Roughly 10k-25k (after armor n' such)
Yes, these are 10man values

Just got this yesterday in a pug.
Got it after about 7 wipes, the closest we got before we completed it was 337 health and then he went immune.
I was not happy.
It's not hard at all, we had some pretty low DPS in there.
I was pulling about 8k DPS, others were pulling about 5 -6k DPS, and the few undergeared players were doing about 1 - 3k DPS.

I just soloed this achieve in 10 man on my level 90 elemental shaman.
I was in ilevel 468 gear and had my primal elementalist talent selected to give me the better earth elemental.
I simply ran in, cleared the trash (quite easy) and pulled Sartharion with my flame shock after dropping my searing totem. Once he pulled, I hit my heroism and clicked into Ascention and spammed Lava Burst- that alone got him to an easy 50%. Once Tenebron came down, I dropped my Primal Earth Elemental to deal with her and continued a standard rotation on Sartharion avoiding the flame walls. Once he got below 10% and started hitting very, very hard I dropped my Healing Stream Totem and Stone Bulwark Totem and finished him off.
I dare say that the Black Drake and title is now quite solo "farmable" by a level 90 provided you don't ignore mechanics and move out of the fire walls and twilight ruptures.

Soloed as a Demo Warlock with Wrathguard.
Tactic:
Yes, it is possible to easily obtain Reins of the Black Drake and "of the Nightfall" title now! Just kill Sartharion before the second drake (Shadron) lands. When the first drake (Tenebron) lands, your minion should start to tank him. The drake will enrage once Sartharion gets to low health (25%). Remember that before you pull the Boss it is necessary to clear the trash! Good Luck and Have Fun!

Two manned this with an arms warrior and a disc priest.
Strategy :
According to the calculations we did before the actual kill, you will need at least 10 000 single target dps on Sartharion to kill him before the enrage timer hits. Before you pull the boss it's important to clear out the trash mobs in the instance, or they will engage when you pull Sartharion. With decent damage you will be able to kill this very qickly maybe even before the first drake lands.

Very easy to solo this as an Arms warrior (483). Clear the trash and just burn him. Had over 50% life left.

Any way to solo this besides nuking Sartharion? Can't get in the portal to get rid of Gift of Twilight or it resets.

Level 110 Resto Druid - Solo'd today March 4th, 2017. Took off all gear. Ran straight to boss. Engaged boss by getting close, waited a second for some adds to start coming down, then...Moonfire. Sunfire. Moonfire. BOOM. Achieve done.
