Perfect answer. No nonsense and straight talking. Wish everything was like this.
It will happen. Give it time. They said they wouldnt do a lot of things, like cash store, legacy servers etc and yet here we are. ActiBlizz NFTs are inevitable.
I dont share the vitriolic hatred of NFT's that many express.Theyre another way to make money. Some people rage just as hard at ANY in game shop. I dont necessarily want them, but not wanting them and possessing an almost bloodboiling fixation on them as the next iteration of satan aren't mutually exclusive, I suppose.
Good answer, NFTs are ruining a lot of things these days, we don't need them.Even if, as others have said, maybe they are really inevitable and we will see something on that side sooner or later.
Remember when Activision said "that" patent was theoretical and wouldn't be applied but they threw it into warzone?Remember when they said they wanted community feedback and created a special forum?Remember when they said they were going to fix WC3:RE?
Strange, my survey did not contain that question about current trends
I mean sure make useless NFTs and grab money from people that actually think they'll get something off of that. As long as it doesn't fulfil any game related purpose like pictures it just serves to keep the game running.Other than that NFTs don't seem to have any use, which means you could literally just increase the price of everything else by a minor amount and be done with it.
Sweet
Unfortunately, at the end of the day, it's not Mike's decision whether Blizz gets involved with NFTs or not. Still, glad to see he's speaking against that pyramid scheme.
Good job, perfect answer. We don't need NFTs in WoW, we need to fix the nightmarish secondary markets (you know what i mean) that thrive since WoD, so ingame achievements won't devalue (in hearts of the players especially).NFT can be cool, but in some new, brave zoomer projects. Not Blizzard games for sure.
Honestly, Mike Ybarra made the right call to say "No" to NFTs... It would've shot Blizz in the foot if they did NFTs, especially when there are lots of examples of it not working well in other companies like Ubisoft and even SquareEnix.
Here's an idea. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Problem solved.

One reason Blizzard would survey about NFTs, even if the Blizzard leadership already wanted nothing to do with NFTs, would be to push back against pro-NFT folks at Activision. In a business environment, you can justify decisions a lot better with solid data than with just gut feelings. Saying "everyone knows players hate NFTs" won't fly in front of some bean counter who's seen data about NFT revenues at other companies. So you do a survey and come back with, "Here's hard data showing that our players rabidly hate NFTs." It functions as a self-defense mechanism.
Interestingly, I took this survey, but did not get the page in the first screenshot asking about the NFTs and stuff like that. I'm not sure what I would have answered "wrong" to not be directed to that page. Albeit, at the end of one of the pages I completed, it just abruptly redirected me to the Blizzard website with no mention of the survey being done. So maybe mine glitched out and did not finish? I tried clicking the link to the survey again from the email and it told me I'd already completed it.
I actually had an idea for an NFT for Warcraft.Add an achievement after reaching 1000~ mounts. You unlock a special npc that turns your character + equipped transmog into a mount item. The owner can name it, and sell/trade it for whatever value they want.If people want it enough they will just do what they do now, buy wow tokens :)
