How is this even possible?
"Streamer fails most basic internet security test possible"
This seems like a good indication Blizzard might change the API to block this even if it might work with what classic really allowed.
I hope he reported that. Even if he cant see who the mail was send, Blizzard can. Blizzard still takes actions against scammers.
on the upside he could have been called by a nigerian prince and it could have been irl.
The guy who scammed him wasn't a random guy though. He got scammed by someone he's played with for months. Watch the rest of the stream vod, not just the clip. This really isn't a case of "haha he accepted a WA from some random stranger" - this guy got backstabbed by someone he thought he could trust.
When putting out a post like this as a "PSA," do you all do any due diligence like reaching out to the addon developers for a comment? This particular defect is with the WoW Classic UI, accessed in this case via a WeakAura, but isn't based on kind of exploit or loophole created by WeakAuras itself. WeakAuras has blocked the offending code as a stopgap measure, so it can't be used to do this any longer, and I'm sure Blizzard will secure the frames that were accessed for this exploit.
HAHA nice WA tho some guy props for creating something like that 1st see of that kind of weak aura :D
Blizzard has the capability of tracing this and will do something about it
What he did was actually a really simple concept. It is horrible this happened and I would very much like to know if Blizzard intends to return his gold.
Didn't they remove this exploit method for WA on retail WoW a long time ago?EDIT: I realized that it was done on Classic WoW, does it means that Blizzard overlooked this one?
So did Blizzard ban scammer and return gold or what?
This is what happens when they don't keep interface code in classic up to date with retail. This was fixed on retail but classic is based off not just 8.1.5 but early early PTR 8.1.5
