I'm incredibly impressed and delighted with how they'll be doing all this.To be honest, I was expecting them to just dump 1.12 out all at once and let that be it. The fact that we're getting something relatively close to the original WoW experience, with things being rolled out over time, is amazing. Not to mention that they understand the importance of no changes (the only major one I can think of so far is raid loot trading, which is a non-issue) and keeping Classic and BfA separate (thank God no transmog from classic will transfer to BfA). They've handled Classic almost perfectly so far. The only things I can think of that would make it better would be:
Figures, Blizzard never listens, AV 1.12 instead of 1.5, I hope all you *&$# that wanted 1.12 gets tired of people blitzing and you quit. Remember you are only one patch from the AV you have now and 1.12 is NOT the patch you all remember or love.
I am happy to play classic again since I only experienced it on a private server back then. But I wont be happy to have classic purists all around you to deal with.
So this content will be released over a period of time. What happens after all this is done? Will you continue playing at that state indefinitely?
Despite the fact I am playing Classic for reasons other than player versus player combat, this format seems decent enough. I do like the idea that mass, unscripted, adhoc world combat is still there at the start rather than the more formal system that came later. At least there is progression to it that somewhat mirrors the past despite the patch itself being only one version.
part of me wonders how long it'll be before a good chunk of the "yay classic!" crowd realizes that their memories of fun doesn't take into account that they were younger, that they had more free time, that the game was new and exciting and everything was being done for the first time, that everything was still a mystery to discover due to a lack of wowhead (thottbot was always a bit hit or miss lol). Eventually (hell, some have started already), these people will find something else to complain about as the problem was not ever the game, but themselves and being unable to admit they have simply outgrown it or perhaps attached too much of their sense of self in what should've been only a past time. That being said, I'm sure within that crowd there are a subsection of people who remember it all as it actually was and still will enjoy it. To those, I wish a genuine, non-sarcastic "have fun!" and hope the whiners who will follow you into the classic servers won't spoil it for you.
