Don't want addons? Don't use them. Don't ruin the experience for the rest of us.
many many addons works back in days so stop make drama over it
If I cannot customize my UI to what I like, there's no way I'll be playing Classic.
... you mean that time in wow where there was an ACTUAL heal bot as an addon? that could calculate incoming damage, most mana efficient healing spells and could actualy tell you the best target to heal...yeah i dont think anything we have to day comes close to that
Open any pvp video or post patch 1.7 raid video of a somewhat competent player.Oh look addons. Dozens of them. cast bars based on talent modification, cooldowns of other players in your BG, respawn timers, boss mods, threat meterPrior to the 2.0 EULA and API changes you could run legal bots in WoW. Decursive is the first that comes to mind as it was a real bot.it was targeting for you with no mouse targeting required.Emergency monitor was the same deal and a lot of pleb guilds relied on it as their supports were unable to coordinate themselves for 40 man healingRogue-bot was a dps bot for warriors, hunters and rogues. You only had to move into range of a target and it was running your preset rotation that was properly tracking combo points a energy/rage/mana based on your spec procs for you without the need to press a single buttonMeanwhile on the classic reddit ... and apparently also on wowheadmuh durr addons are evil they ruin the vanilla experienceWe didn't have addons in classicthe new api is so much more powerfulwhat a bunch of hypocrites
If those complaining about the API used for Classic were planning to run the game on early 2000s PCs and peripherals with dial up or crappy DSL while never watching any videos, following any streams, nor looking at any information resource sites, and somehow expunging all previously acquired knowledge about the game from their minds, I might start taking them seriously.
I want to be able to use addons cause not everything is simplified in the quest logs and or interface another good example: autosell junk cause who wants to sit there for hours deciding whats good to sell and not when it can sell all the greys and soulbound stuff that is not usable by your character.. quality of life is essential on any game... this is why people make addons if there is no quality of life provided by the game itself.
I'm pretty sure the only addons I'm actually going to want for Classic are DialogKey (or some variant) to let me more organically chat with NPCs, maybe stuff like SellJunk and BuyEmAll to make vendoring stuff less of an insane hassle, and DBM if I ever raid. Map, Quest, Inventory type addons aren't getting picked by me ever, since that kind of defeats the purpose of Classic in the first place. If I didn't want to have to read quest text and mindlessly run to points on the map, I'd still play Retail. Basically I want the QOL addons without seriously corrupting the spirit of the game, and DBM is there only because most raids will probably require it.
I would agree that most addons should be fine. They can help give a player a bit of an edge or cover some mistakes but for most it isn't game breaking and those that don't want them don't have to download them if they don't want to. I know I personally will only be using one to help organize my bags and a threat meter. That said I agree with the others that have posted here about Auction house addons. These addons have a HUGE impact on the server economy and other players' game play . They make it much easier for a small number of individuals to easily and consistently control markets in a way that can gold starve and ruin the auction house experience for others. There will always be people who use the auction house effectively and religiously and that's fine. The big problem comes with how automated auction house addons have become over the years. For that reason I think they should definitely have limits placed on them; though I leave what those limits should be up to designers who have far more knowledge of the problem than myself.
Pretty sure the only Addon we used for Ony/MC/BWL was KTM. The mechanics are so simple and straightforward they were all pretty simple fights that almost entirely revolved around resist gear. Yeah you had 50 abilities but your rotation was 111111111121111111112 for many classes, and don't get aggro, or dump it if you can.Naxx/AQ40 were much harder in almost every way.The AH is going to get exploited massively however I predict. I look forward to all of it.
It's weird not to see it mentioned that CPU power increases have lead to significantly more powerful Addons.Weakauras probably wouldn't have been possible on 15 year old hardware, it would've made the game entirely unplayable.Maybe that should be the proposal for classic addons, focus on limiting how much and how often you can query the game state through the API in order to replicate that limited hardware but nearly unlimited API access of the day.

I remember back in vanilla some pretty broken mods, like Auto self cast, where things like inner fire, pally seals and shaman armors. The old API could cast skills for you without you doing a thing. That's pretty dangerously close to an add-on playing for you.
This is getting a little out of hand. You guys wanted Classic WoW you got it. Now you're trying to impose other players how they should play the game too? It's getting stupid.
Classic wow addons = a rogue addon that you could configure as to what skill it whould activate next.Had 4+ cp, SnD had more than 7 seconds left and rupture had more than 8 seconds left on target?BOOMEviscerateIf notRefresh Rupture or SnD depending on which timer was the lowest...And all I had to do was spam SS (sinister strike)The addon would take care of everything elseSo yeah.. you tell me... do you want "vanilla addons" ?
Excellent post.
My having addons does not affect anyone else's gameplay soooooo maybe people who are screeching against them just... shouldn't install them? It's so easy.
