With all Dragonflight Raids and Dungeons returning in Season 4, players will have renewed access to some favorite trinkets; however, there are likely changes to these beloved items since you last equipped them.
Taeznak, our guide writer and one of the implementers of trinkets and cantrips for Simulationcraft, discusses all the Season 4 trinket changes and how they compare to past iterations.

Season 4 Trinket Changes
In Patch 10.1:
Algeth'ar Puzzle Box (Trinket) on-use effect duration has been increased to 30 seconds (was 20 seconds) and its Mastery bonus has been decreased by 38%.
Algeth'ar Puzzle Box shared cooldown increased to 30 seconds, effect decreased by 30% for Unholy specialization.
In Patch 10.2:
Rashok's Molten Heart mana restore reduced by 70%, healing reduced by 50%, and Versatility reduced by 20%.
In Patch 10.2.6:
Mutated Magmammoth Scale chance to trigger now scales with Haste and damage reduced by 13%.
Kyrakka's Searing Embers chance to trigger increased by 100%, damage reduced by 50%, and healing reduced by 40%. Additionally fixed an issue that could cause inconsistent proc behavior.
Conjured Chillglobe mana restore effect reduced by 70%.
Storm-Eater’s Boon damage reduced by 25%.
Whispering Incarnate Icon's infusion effects granted to allies reduced by 45%.
Fixed an issue causing Whispering Incarnate Icon to grant significantly more passive secondary stat than intended.
Manic Grieftorch will now trigger a 1 second global cooldown and may not be used when the global cooldown is active
Manic Grieftorch damage increased by 1.2%. Can now be channeled while moving.
Ominous Chromatic Essence shared alignment secondary stat reduced by 5%.
Ward of Faceless Ire cooldown reduced to 1 minute (was 2 minutes), absorb reduced by 35%, and damage reduced by 50%.
All remaining stacks of Enduring Dreadplate's Hellsteel Plating that are not consumed by taking damage now rupture to release Rays of Anguish upon expiration.
Neltharion’s Call to Chaos primary stat reduced by 6.4%.
Dragonfire Bomb Dispenser damage reduced by 15%. Flash of Inspiration may now only occur every 2 seconds (was 0.74 seconds).
Neltharion's Call to Dominance duration increased to 20 seconds (was 10 seconds), but primary stat granted reduced by 50%.

Pretty strong for 3-minute burst specilizations, as It paired Incredibly well with large burst cooldowns, specifically with Unholy Death Knights

With the change to its duration and reduction to the Mastery given, it lost a lot of its potency when paired with shorter duration cooldowns. Combining that with Unholy's damage profile changes due to

nerfs means, while still strong, this trinket can now be outclassed by other trinkets.

Before Changes
Pretty bad, all things considered. Its effect has a low proc rate (1rppm), with low damage output. Not being able to control the procs either leads to the on-death effect never really activating, hindering this trinket's potential massively.
The Rework
This trinket was entirely reworked for Season 4, so here's a comparison:

After Changes
The changes boosted this trinket's potential quite drastically with an increased proc rate (1.5+haste rppm), as well as higher baseline damage, resulting in it being able to compete with other trinkets around its item level. The change to sub 5% hp did help it a little bit compared to on death, but, still being RPPM does mean that this still can't be controlled. But, it spreading to new targets, which can trigger the effect as well does substantially increase its potential value in AoE compared to its previous version.

Previously, this trinket required fairly constant attention due to its 30s cooldown while also triggering the 20-second shared trinket cooldown, using it as soon as possible after reaching 4 stacks was vital to really let it perform its best. But at the same time, this came at the cost of constantly blocking out using another on-use trinket if you had one. This made the trinket pretty undesirable for most.
The Rework
This trinket was entirely reworked for Season 4, so here's a comparison:

After Changes
All around, with these changes, the trinket is lower maintenance and no longer interferes with other on-use trinkets, but doesn't stand out compared to many of the alternative options. It's reasonably strong in AoE if you can explode all 50 stacks, but it's still outclassed by many other trinkets we will talk about later. In single target, this trinket struggles all around and could probably use a buff to its base frost damage proc to try to bring it more in line.

Fairly bad outside of niche scenarios where an extra external was necessary. Its long cooldown (2 minutes), small relative armor value, and small heal lead to this trinket being generally undesirable.
The Rework
This trinket was entirely reworked for Season 4, so here's a comparison:

After Changes
The changes still leave this trinket as pretty niche. But, with a more practical niche than previously. The Versatility and movement speed debuff triggers every 45 seconds now, allowing it to be used drastically more. With the armor effect changed into an Absorb shield instead, and its added 10-yard AoE component, this can now be used as a raid external when your group is stacked. Of course, this comes with the downside of having to deal with the movement speed slow until you get to the group stack point, making it still a hard sell.

Before Changes
Fairly average in terms of damage potential. While it wasn't going to turn heads with its damage output, did well enough to be passable in single target, and pretty good in AoE.
After Changes
Sadly, nothing really changed here. damage was nerfed, but its RPPM was changed from 2rppm to 2rppm+haste. If you have more than 13% haste on average, this will be a buff to the trinket overall, and those with higher haste will see more benefit. Still, it can do well in AoE with some good luck on the proc timing, and still a bit lackluster in single-target.

Before Changes
Fairly mediocre, as this was an RNG defensive benefit, with a small damage effect. While not the worst trinket out there it didn't give the flexibility or consistency to make a difference in tanking.
The Rework
This trinket was entirely reworked for Season 4, so here's a comparison:

After Changes
This trinket now works as both an external defensive and offensive combo trinket. Works fairly well at what it does, and its 2-minute cooldown does give it the flexibility to be used when the player wants to negate a large hit. Combine that with a substantial buff to its damage output when the shield breaks, and you have a trinket that's got some more value now. While I don't expect this trinket to be commonly used for tanks still with trinkets like
Fyrakks besudeltes Zornesherz
being available which does everything this trinket does, but better.

Before Changes
Another trinket that was pretty poor at what it aimed to do due to being RNG. Its low proc rate (1rppm+haste) previously led to inconsistencies. While its healing and damage were reasonable for this proc rate, it would often happen at inopportune times.
After Changes
The notes above seem to be incorrect vs what the actual values changed to, its proc rate was increased to 4rppm+haste, up from 1rppm+haste, leading to it proccing 4x as often. Its healing was reduced by 66% and the damage was reduced by 57%. All these changes though, lead to an overall buff to this trinket. As it is now proccing 4x as often compared to before, the inconsistencies tend to be evened out, more often than not it's going to give you decent healing and damage output due to the lower value, but more frequent procs.

Before Changes
Pretty bad all things considered. dropping below 50% hp to trigger the shield and damage counterattacks at a high (20rppm) proc rate was perfectly fine in theory, but, ended up lacking both defensively, and offensively compared to other trinkets.
The Rework
This trinket was entirely reworked for Season 4, so here's a comparison:

After Changes
While a bit better, this trinket now suffers some new issues. Only doing damage while the shield is active makes it inconsistent in terms of offensive power, while proccing at 75% hp means this is often going to proc when you're really not in any need of defensive benefit. All around, you're better off going with trinkets like
Fyrakks besudeltes Zornesherz
for a defensive and offensive combination trinket.

It was quite heavily limited by it previously being a ground effect, similar to Mage's old Rune of Power. Being forced to stand in place for 15 seconds to get its full power was both incredibly risky, and generally not worth it for the power the trinket gave

After Changes
Everything about this was changed, and now more closely mimics Mage's Mirror Image's. This does incredibly well in AoE scenarios, as the damage it deals is not split amongst the enemies hit, making it scale incredibly well the more targets you have to hit. In single-target though, it struggles to compete.

Raid Trinkets

Before Changes
Quite potent for many Caster DPS specializations, most notably Mages. While this wasn't the number one choice for healers, it was still an option if you needed to restore some mana mid-combat.
After Changes
Pretty much the same for DPS specializations, as mana is rarely an issue for them outside of Arcane Mages. Otherwise, the hit to healers potential mana regen with this makes it even less appealing to them. This may be a good thing if some DPS specializations want this as it has to be traded from a healer.

Before Changes
Great in AoE, lacking in Single-target scenarios. Comes with the downside of rooting the player in place for 10 seconds after being used, but the player can still cast while this is active.
After Changes
These changes hurt it pretty bad all around, while it was never anything notable in Single Target scenarios, its AoE niche did give it some use cases in Mythic+ and Tanking. While this still allows for immuning forced movement effects on fights like Razageth and Dathea it can still be quite risky to do so. Being able to cast while using this does alleviate some of this, but doing only okay AoE damage while rooting the player for 10 seconds is a death sentence for this trinket for DPS players in Mythic+, though might still have some use for tanks.

Before Changes
Was among the best of the best for almost everyone in Vault of the Incarnates.
After Changes
While still strong, it's now a lot more well-balanced compared to other trinkets. It can still be the best for some specializations, but, far from all of them. While this may be healthier to give players more choice, it makes justifying having both a healer and a tank wearing it a little bit more difficult, as this is often a loss for them to do, with significantly less party benefit after the nerfs.

Before Changes
One of the best trinkets for anyone that could utilize it in single-target, more so in progression raiding environments where your raid members would often die, resetting the cooldown of this trinket and amplifying its power so much more. AoE damage on the other hand is, and always has been quite inconsistent and low due to its RNG nature in hitting other nearby enemies.
After Changes
All in all, the changes mean fairly little for this absolute beast of a trinket. Lots of players will still want this trinket. While not being able to cast it anymore during the Global Cooldown does hinder it a little bit, it's still competitive if not better than almost every other single target damage-dealing trinket in the game when you consider raid deaths in its value. Combine all this with being able to cast this now while moving also gives it a ton more freedom than before.

Was among the best of the best for almost everyone in Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible.
After Changes
The nerfs to the shared stats, all around, don't change a whole lot about this trinket. While it can be outclassed by other trinkets now, I expect this, unlike
Flüsterndes Symbol der Inkarnation
to be significantly more commonly utilized by players. Without the tank and healer requirements, all the DPS players can go buck wild with this, equipping them and sharing their preferred flight's buffs with other DPS players. This still does come with the downside of requiring other players to wear it though, so always be sure to check your group composition to see if it may be worth it for you.

Pretty good as a Healer trinket that serves as both a DPS trinket and external defensive cooldown for other players.
After Changes
The changes here are pretty neutral in terms of damage output, though the defensive benefit has been increased quite a bit. While it is not the best trinket for that job, combining it with the damage output gives it a strong argument to be utilized when your healers can drop some defensive or healing value for more damage.

Before Changes
While not the best trinket in terms of tank defensive or offensive power was generally fine at what it did.
After Changes
Allowing all remaining plates to rupture on the expiry of the buff does increase its offensive power quite drastically if you are in a scenario where you wouldn't rupture them previously, such as using it just before a tank swap. All in all, these changes should lead to the trinket being quite good at what it's trying to do, being a solid offensive and defensive combination trinket that does well in AoE.

Before Changes
Incredibly potent for healers. Not only did this trinket restore mana often due to its proc rate, but also increased the healing they did and granted the player healed a vers buff if any overhealing was done from it.
After Changes
The nerfs to this trinket were insane, to say the least. Every aspect of it aside from its proc rate was reduced so massively that this trinket won't be anywhere near as desirable as it was previously.

Before Changes
Among the best trinkets for most Agility specilizations.
After Changes
With the nerfs to this, it's still pretty good, although is seeing significantly less value than its previous iteration. The damage reduction, combined with its internal cooldown increase reduced its potential power down to generally be worse than other strong Agility damage trinkets, such as
Kataklymisches Signetbrandmal
or
Elementiumtaschenamboss
in Single Target, though its AoE power can still be quite high if timed well.

Neltharions Chaosruf
Before Changes
It was incredibly hit or miss, depending on your specialization. Some specializations would cast spells that could trigger this often in single-target, while others did not. Making this very subjective based on your specialization rotation and talent build.
After Changes
The nerf here is a bit odd, as it will disproportionally affect some specialization's value of this trinket in single-target. Those who proc this less are now getting even less value out of it. Seems like an odd change all around. For this one, make sure you check your specialization's guides to see how it is for you specifically.

Neltharions Vorherrschaftsruf
Before Changes
It was incredibly hit or miss, depending on your specialization. Warlocks in particular took incredible advantage of this trinket, making it by far the best for them.
After Changes
While this trinket was generally strong for all specializations that could use it, with Warlocks being the outlier for it, they were hit the most by these changes. They still get a large benefit from this when paired with their cooldowns, albeit the changes to Demonology's damage profile in 10.2 already hindered this effect's potential, making these changes push it entirely off the radar of Warlocks. As with Call to Chaos, make sure you check your specializations guide for this trinkets exact value.
