Beguiling in Mythic+ Season 3 - Feedback on the Seasonal Affix So Far

The Season 3 Mythic+ Affix, Beguiling, was made available for testing last week and we managed to get some runs in on the PTR. In this article, Moofz and Flawless give their thoughts on the upcoming seasonal affix, break down the pros and cons of each of the Emissaries and give some feedback from their testing.

Beguiling Recap
Beguiling encompasses 3 different types of NPC’s.

虚触使者
and
潮汐使者
. Each of the three NPC’s are scattered randomly throughout the dungeon next to different mobs. The location of each of these changes each week, similar to how
共生
was treated. Each Emissary will have a passive effect in addition to the mechanic that the Emissary brings.

- Grants nearby allies

, reflecting 200% of damage dealt back at the target. Enchanted Emissaries have the passive

, causing attacks to push back the emissary.
虚触使者

is an 8 sec cast. Deals Shadow damage equal to 50% targets' health to enemies in line of sight within a 60-yard radius. Damage is doubled with every cast. Void-Touched Emissaries have the passive True Sight, granting the ability to see stealth at a larger radius.

be crowd controlled.

How to Deal with Beguiling and the Emissaries
We’ve done some testing on PTR with this new affix and here’s what we’ve discovered so far:
Beguiling in General
Currently we have only been able to test with
激励
/
易爆
. However, at the moment, emissaries can be Bolstered (i.e they’re affected by affixes).
Emissaries do not die. At 1% health, they port back to Queen Azshara so they are not affected by on-death effects such as
血池
or
激励
(They can be Bolstered and can be healed by Sanguine, but they will not Bolster other mobs or drop Sanguine when they die).

They have an aggro table. This means that classes that can
嘲讽
can simply taunt them out of the group, rather than having to deal damage to them. They still melee so be careful!
AoE abilities (such as
剑刃乱舞
) and pet damage work to push these mobs back.
These mobs will time out after 30 sec (Once their energy bar has been depleted). If you wipe, they still time out and will not reset.
You cannot drop aggro with these mobs, so getting into combat and then using
消失
does not work. They simply stop gaining energy until you re-enter combat with them.
In addition to attacking them, you can use
台风
,
平心之环
or any other displacement ability to further push them back.
Enchanted Emissaries can pull other mobs if you knock them back into other groups. You have to be careful on your positioning and which way you knock them.
Only the initial damage from abilities cause a knockback. Dots do not consistently knock this emissary back. Only the initial application seems to knock them back.

There are typically fewer of these emissaries throughout the dungeon (2-4).
These guys
HURT
. A lot. You typically want to avoid these at all costs if possible. It’s worth planning your route around these.
These require potions, cooldowns, defensives and everything else you have at your disposal.

doubles the AoE damage it does every time. The first cast does about 50% of your health. The second nearly kills you without defensives and the 3rd cast is basically guaranteed death without immunities (This scales off of difficulty of course). This means that you have about 24-sec max to burst these down. Keep in mind that these can be coupled with some already nasty packs in the dungeon as shown in the clip below.
The cast can be line of sighted. However, the add will never stop casting so its damage continues to ramp up. On higher key levels you may have to line of sight after just one cast. In some places, you cannot line of sight and it must be bursted down. The cast can be line of sighted but keep in mind that these mobs will not move and line of sighting may not even be an option.
You typically cannot skip these due to their True-sight. It may be worth to death skip these if you cannot skip.

Tide Emissaries themselves can be crowd controlled. Treat these like
共生
. Try CC’ing these, pulling mobs out and dealing with these later.
Mobs surrounding Tide Emissaries cannot be Interrupted, Stunned, Knocked, Rooted or Distracted. At the moment they can be purged though.
These mobs melee fairly hard so be wary!
Emissary of the Tides have a fairly long cast once they are brought to 1% health. They retain the CC immunity effects during the cast and keep the party in combat until the cast is finished. If this mob is stunned just before the cast begins it immediately disappears (do not know if it's intended or not)
Tidal Emissary's melee attacks are counted as Frost damage. This means that tanks will get trucked by these.
Opinions and Thoughts
Beguiling in General
Pros
迷醉
is a more controlled affix. It requires a more priority target and mid-range damage distribution. This means that the mass AoE damage that
收割
required (i.e Outlaw Rogues, Prot Warriors, etc) isn’t as necessary anymore. We might very well see other classes such as Fury Warriors, Marksman Hunters, Boomkins, Ele Shamans and some others become more viable.
迷醉
is on a weekly rotation. This means that between rotating Beguiling and rotating affixes, M+ will be less stale. There will always be a need for new and innovative routes each week.
Cons
Due to
迷醉
's controlled nature, Beguiling naturally slows down the pace of the dungeon, as opposed to
收割
which sped up the pace of the dungeon or at least allowed for bigger pulls.
Since
迷醉
and affixes change weekly, the learning curve will be extremely high, especially since there are now 3 different mobs on a rotating basis (as opposed to
共生
’s single mob on a weekly rotation or
收割
s 3 mobs that stayed consistent each week).
Emissaries should have a reward of some sort (reward percent, give a buff, etc). Currently, it feels more like a chore for dealing with these and it feels bad that they don’t reward percent. While
收割
did not give percent, you were able to incorporate it with additional pulls and it did not really slow down the dungeon. You were able to pull big numbers and it felt a bit more enticing. Beguiling slows the dungeon down without having any sort of reward.
It feels like there are
WAY
too many of these mobs. Especially since they have no benefit in killing them other than posing a roadblock for teams to deal with. As of right now, you typically want to avoid as many of these mobs as possible.
Emissaries should not be affected by Affixes. They already have a ton of health and hit extremely hard. Making them affected by
激励
or getting healed by
血池
or having them become
激怒
d is way too much to deal with, especially with how often you encounter them (we assume they are affected since emissaries are affected by
激励
).
Emissaries placed in pathing groups will halt their pathing as shown
here
. Emissaries should move with the pack rather than forcing it to be stationary.
Void-Touched Emissaries
Pros
虚触使者
are scarce throughout the dungeon. You can typically skip most of them so luckily, you rarely have to deal with these monstrosities.
Cons
虚触使者
require way too many resources and they are almost always skipped if possible. Adding some benefit or buff for killing them would make killing them an option and might give some variability into how players deal with them. At the very least, the AoE damage should be tuned down quite a bit.
Currently,
虚触使者
seem to feel like a wall due to their current nature (they don’t move, they ramp damage quickly, they have a ton of health). If you do not have enough damage for Void-Touched Emissaries you may have to find other solutions to get passed them. It might be better to extend its cast time or lower its health to make killing them more bearable. As it stands it is never worth expending the resources it takes to kill these mobs unless you simply cannot avoid it.
Emissary of Tides
Pros
潮汐使者
add some complexity to packs and require a bit of crowd control. In most packs, these are not extremely hard to deal with and can be AoE'd down with the pack.
Cons
潮汐使者
remaining in combat after killing them is extremely cumbersome, especially when it's the last mob killed and you have to wait an additional 8 seconds just so your healer can start getting mana back. The cast should be sped up or removed as there is no real reason to have it linger as long as it does.
This emissary feels almost exactly like
共生
. You deal with it in the exact same manner often times and feels a bit stale in terms of repeating an affix.
In a few packs,
潮汐使者
crowd control immunity make it almost impossible to deal with the pack. This typically occurs in packs with multiple casters. We recommended restricting the location of some of the placements of these emissaries as certain packs become nearly impossible to kill with these emissaries attached to them.
Enchanted Emissaries
Pros
魔力使者
seem to be the most well balanced and thought out emissary. It has a clear impact on how to approach the pull, and it’s very engaging for the group to deal with it. At the same time, it's not nearly as daunting as the other emissaries. There are multiple ways of dealing with it which allows a variety of different options for different groups.
Cons
魔力使者
can pull other mobs that you are not currently in combat with while knocking them back due to proximity. This is especially evident in closed condensed quarters (think Waycrest or Tol'Dagor). We don't believe that it should be able to pull other mobs as it can seriously hinder how you deal with this emissary.
