for those that like visual clues.....and coordinates.....for the Colossus of the Moon

41.2/37.6 as noted from the top of his head....

He's mostly buried in the sand, just like the Sun (who is right by the dying prophet, inside the city walls) but he's in front of the small pyramid that's outside the walled area of the city, almost directly across from the prince and the general at their little tent.

Make sure you don't run to far away after pulling them out of the sand. I had one of them bug out where it was attacking me, but was still "green" so I could not attack it (it had infinite aggro range also).

Am I the only one having trouble trying to finish this quest? I keep killing them and nothing happens after that.

Edit: Issue somehow solved? Relogged through character screen then I was able to get the items.... weird.

Edit 2: Still bugged... only could get the moon. As soon as the sun dies, disappears before i can loot.

Still bugged. Some people get, others like me can't. If they respawn before you kill them...which is stupid...they just disappear when you kill them. The rest of the time I will kill them, on the exact spot they spawned from, and they have a loot bag, but it stays grayed out. This is stupid that this is still bugged after so long. I'll be well out of this area by the time it's fixed...suppose it'll be nice to come back someday in the future and finish the chain.

Was finally able to complete this quest and therefor finish the rest of the quests in the zone on 01/30/11.

This quest almost gave me a heart attack...a simple quest killed by being bugged! I abandoned the quest 6 times...logged a good dozen times...As soon as the sun dies, it disappeared before i could loot but if you stay on top of where he spawns you can get it if you loot it while he is falling down...the moon was just as bad...to think this would be fixed by now?

I look at the comment by Velirae (11 days ago) and the same bug still exists. I killed the Colossus of the Sun several times and it despawns immediately. I DID see the object one time but it despawned before the system could give it to me. This has existed since the launch on December 7th. Might be time to move its priority up a notch, don't ya think Bliz?

I tried 2 more times with no luck. Then I saw a Priest do it, I asked if he was able to loot and he said yes. Asked him to group with me and then had him start quest...I was able to loot and finish the quest.

If it is a bug (which I believe it is or it would work all the time), it appears it's not a bug for everyone.

Still bugged. The statues die and disappear before you can loot them - I was on an 83 blood elf paladin. The statues respawn before you kill the first one so I activated 2 at a time and this way I was able to loot when the first one died.

This quest worked fine for me with no problem(s). A cog wheel icon will appear over both of these when you mouse over them.

When I first clicked on Colossus of the Sun he yelled, "You will be punished for this transgression, thief!". When I clicked on Colossus of the Moon he yelled the same thing.

After yelling they turn from friendly (green) to aggressive (red) and attack. Kill them both and complete quest.

Simply done.

After many attempts I made sure that I killed them right where they were found. Even though they had respawned I was still able to lot. Just make sure you do not leave the area where you bring them to life.

These corpses are very temperamental to loot. Make sure you don't click off them, and get it right the first time. I had to kill them about 10 times each. They kept resetting when I mislooted.

I read these posts then tried getting these two stones myself and it didn't bug out on me. I didn't realize I was on the right track by waking up the Stone of the Sun by accident. I was actually surprised when it attacked me. I did kill it but didn't know what to do after that so I came on here to see what others had found. I stayed in the same spot and just clobbered him, I'm an 85 balance druid and was ready to click on the 'wheel' as soon as he died, before he began to fall. Got both stones quickly. MUST get the stone before the re-spawn awakens is my best advice.

arrgh! Why does Blizzard leave things this buggy for this long? Went thru here on my hunter just fine not a bobble. Brought a pally thru and have killed the dang mobs 10 times each and can only loot the Sun one.
Anyay, still bugged as of 1/8/11 at 7PM central time.

I believe the key is to kite the guardians off the blown sand dunes. I was having the same problem with the Moon and once I walked off the sand pile he didn't disappear after my kill shot.

To get the Stone of the Moon you must kill the guardian before he re-spawns if you are not a high DPS then you should ask for help from a friend. this worked for my tank, my mage did quest solo.

I have the same problem i have kill them alot and they just poof i have never ran into any problems in this game this is crazy

The quest is still buggy. I abandoned and retook the quest & this time I tried to kill the giant where he spawned. I got knocked away for each spawn but ran back as quick as I could & tried to kill them about where they spawned & then I could loot them for the items. Reclicking the cogwheel as suggested by some only respawned the giant and I had to kill him again.

The answer with this quest is to loot both of the Colossal Guardians just as they are falling to the ground. If you leave it later than that, ie on the ground they despawn and it looks bugged.

Tried it yesterday and it appeared bugged and I put in a ticket which came back as no known problems with this quest so I went back today and tried to loot both of them after they had fallen but before despawning. Neither could be looted.

Next I tried it as they were falling and they looted fine.

Agreed. Be quick to loot, though. I actually had the sun guy respawn in the ground before I had killed him, so there were two of them. I almost missed it.

And they won't give up chasing you either, if you need to run away. One chased me halfway to the ocean before I had gotten healthy enough to finish him. Weird.

The trick to looting him is that you need to kill him and loot him before another one spawns, once another spawns then the one your killing wont be lootable. Get a friend to help or nuke him asap to be able to loot him.

The guardians you have to fight are statues beside the pyramids, half-buried in the sand.

This quest wasn't bugged for me, and I was also able to loot the one I was killing even though another one had already respawned.

For fellow stealthers out there, these guys can still see you if you vanish during combat.

I didn't have Kemaria's experience when trying to loot Guardian of the Moon. In several attempts, the loot cursor always was dark grey as though I were too far away, even though I was on top of him and trying to loot him the instant he died. Aitutaki says luring him off the blowing sand area will keep him from disappearing when he dies, but that didn't work for me. I think I'll have to leave this quest for another day. But I shall return!

Has been unbugged -- just click on the NPC when the wheel turns gold and they jump up outta the ground. You kill them and the loot is the stone.

I originally had problems with the Stone of the Sun, but the Stone of the Moon was easy. The sun took me about 5 times and I had to quickly click it before it despawned, quick fingers. And yes, it is still bugged, the Sun one despawns within seconds of dying. =D

An earlier post had this correct.

If you do not kill and loot the statues before their buried state respawns you will not be able to loot them. (From reading some posts, perhaps you may be able to loot if you are lucky, but I dont' think so).

Luckily, this quest doesn't appear to be phased. That means its relatively easy to get a friend to help you take out the statues before their buried state respawns.

This feature explains why some folks are reporting this as bugged while others are not.

Definately bugged..... killed the guardian of the moon about a dozen times and can't get it looted. Did this quest before with three other toons and never had any trouble, but now the loot bag is either dark grey or non existent. Ticket into gm..... for this "unknown problem". give me a break Blizz, if it worked people won't complain or put in tickets

A tip for all of you: the quest is not bugged. There is another colossus of the moon a few steps behind the colossus of the sun and the colossus of the moon that appears when you kill the colossus of the sun. Turn your back to the colossus of the sun and fly a few steps to the left. You will find the colossus of the sun burried alone.

The trick here is to stay as close to the original location of each guardian. Do not let them move away from within a few feet of the spot where each is buried. When you defeat it, loot it immediately. If it respawns it is too late. Be right on top of it when it is defeated and you will be able to loot it. Good luck.lit

I can defeat both of them as an 83 Lock with a voidwalker and not much else...it takes a few minutes but that's a minute too long as it always respawns before I'm done...

I don't do groups often (twice in 3 years) so...

tried several times to kill the sun dude, whoever up there said loot before he falls is correct ... THANK YOU! ...
Loot him as he falls or he disappears as soon as he hits sand and you have to kill him again, and again, and again, and again.....
Edit to add, looted moon dude also as he fell but I don't know if it was because he had already been looted but he stayed around for a couple of seconds, not long though

A WoW GM I reported the continuing bug to; replied that for some players it might help to try to kill the Stone of the Sun right after a server reset. That did not work for me. Another GM suggested adding DPS in the form of a party to speed up the killing of the Stone of the Sun so it can be looted prior to it respawning under itself which prevents looting. Before attempting the party idea I took into account that speed killing was now my goal and used every button available as fast as possible and this time the Stone of the Sun allowed me to loot it before it fell to the ground and the quest completed! I had spent three weeks killing the Stone of the Sun utilizing all the WoWHead suggestions and must emphasize while you do indeed need to loot immediately before it falls to the ground, you also must kill it so fast it does not have time to respawn under itself before it is even dead. The actual killing must be very, very FAST folks! Then loot fast!

This quest is not bugged. After much trial and error, here is what worked for me on both the Colossals. After you click on either Colossal, it will rise up out of the ground and will be "green" or "safe" for a few seconds before it turns "red" and starts attacking you. While each one is in "safe" mode, run away from the statue in the ground a few yards and make it come after you when it goes into attack mode. You may have to kill each one twice, but using this method of dragging it away from where it spawns and THEN killing it will pretty much guarantee successful drops.
Hope this works for you as well as it did for me.

This quest took me several tries. After killing the Sun guardian 4 times he would instantly seem to respawn without giving me the option of looting him. The 5th time I clicked him and ran far, FAR from his area. They don't seem to have a zone area they can't leave before the run back. Finally killed him. Nothing. Tried a few more times, besides instantly respawning, I was never given the option to loot.

I ended up killing the Moon guardian first, and was able to loot him. THEN go back and kill the Sun guardian.

Im not sure if there's a pattern, but that worked for me the very first time.

Very much bugged. I tried both guardians and in both cases the one in the sand respawned before I got the one that I was killing down. I tried to loot it before it fell, got an error message 'you don't have permission to loot that corpse' or 'there is no loot'. Tried both several times. Watched a human paladin (I am a tauren paladin) open the Colossal of the Moon, fight it, kill it, have the one in the sand respawn while he was still fighting.. BUT we his died, the corpse landed on the ground solid for a short time while he looted it. He flew off, so I'm going to guess that he was able to get the stone from it. I tried again, my guy fell and disappeared immediately. Practically before it fell, could not be looted at all. Is it possible for a quest to be bugged for a different faction?

***Edit - was finally able to complete. Spent some time researching the battle.net forums, found a few threads about the bug.. posted to 2 of them. Went back to the game, was able to complete. Happy miracle lol

After many tries, figured out that when he starts to go down...you Must continually try to "loot" him before he hits the ground. Just keep clicking and clicking and you will be able to finish this quest.

As of today this is still buggy. Not only did I kill each mob several times only to have them despawn before I could loot them. They often left my toon in the looting position so I had to relog to release this too. I tried all of the above suggestions, kiting him away from the spawn site, killing right on the spawn site. No way I can kill it before it respawns another head sticking up.

The Quest giver is in a half buried building. You enter fro the inside of the compound. I had no problems at all with the quest.

The plaque above it depicts two giant statues holding star and moon-shaped stones sockets at their center.
