Perhaps worth noting; The slaves appear in the region just south out of Deathwing's Fall, an area of purple/blue-ish crystals which they are mining.

Due to some sort of bug, I was unable to get the key out of the box. I'd open the box and crouch down, but nothing would be inside. Neither relogging nor re-acquiring the quest worked.

I was able to complete it when I grouped with someone else on the quest who was able to loot the key. Credit for freeing the slaves is shared with your group, and you do not need to have the key to finish the quest.

Apparently slaves are treated well in Deepholm, they're given language lessons.

without co ordinates.. the key is at the camp while doing "blood of the earthwarder" quest where the "living blood" mobs are, NOT at the place where "twilight bloodsmith" mobs are!

its on the steep hill, inside there will be a box with the key.. hope this helps.

At Deathwings fall there are 4 platforms over the lava. If you are facing northish then to the left of the two center platforms there is a hill with a metal path on it. the key is in the tent at the top of this hill in a chest that is on the left side of the tent.

If for some buggy reason you can't get the auto follow up quest, just go back to Maruut himself. It will be there.

The chest containing the key is located on the South East corner of the lava pit. Inside the crater, and roughly 50 yards from the lava itself. Its tucked inside the left edge of the tent there. Finally found it after wandering about for a good 15 minutes due to poor directions.

No Coords....OK sorry but none of the above helped me (except Eskimo a bit) - maybe this key spawns in different places?

Anyway I found the key as follows:

1. Go to center of lava pit between the 2 center bridges.
2. Face east (per mini map)
3. Look for a short metal ramp that does NOT go all the way up to the next level (where the slaves are)
4. The tent is on a small ledge up the ramp & they key is inside to the left

fyi there is another tent on the higher elevation level (northeast of lava / key tent) that is NOT the right one.

Possibly the easiest "free the slaves" quest ever, there is plenty of slaves there and only a couple of elemental guards, you only need the one key to free them all, and the rewards are fairly decent. Could have been a greater challenge but we'll take the easy xp :D

Unless it spawns in different places I found the key at 62,59 right inside (left side) of the tent.

The box with the key in it is located at 68.8/54.4 as of 5/23/12 , just outside of the tent. Although the coordinates will lead you to the Deathwing area just remember that you have to be in Deathwing and not Deepholm. The quest verbage is misleading and it should really be called Freeing the Slaves.

As of 8/20/12 the key is in a box that is in a tent at 62.83/59.5. There was nothing guarding it and quite easy to get to.
