By the way. Nemisis is inside the cave where you get the small turtle. After the phasing Nemesis disapears from outside.

The Child of Tortolla WILL attack everything it sees, whether it's yours or not. And it WILL stand on top of the body when you try to loot.

One would think you'd get a little more respect for saving its life...

I am probably the only one who would fall into the lava, but I did near Nemesis and although it didn't kill me there is no way that I could find to get out. Ended up having to hearth. Flew to moonglade.
Picked up another turtle, and all was well.

The Child of Tortolla turtle has to be alive for the Totem of Tortolla quest item to work while killing Nemesis.

...Took me a couple of deaths before I realized why the quest item wasn't working

OK, this was probably obvious to everyone but me. I had to die one time to learn what to do. The totem puts you and the turtle in a shell. So the first thing I did was click on the totem. While it was cooling down, he eruped and I died. Wait for the warning and then click the totem. I thought the totem was going to be active the entire time and protect us. Wrong!

I killed Nemesis before he could even erupt. Pretty easy for (i think) a big quest.

As a rogue, I thought I could stealth past trash mobs. I thought if I sap shadowflame masters on the way, I had only molten tormentors to kill. I sapped shadowflame master but the turtle aggro'd it even if he was sapped, so I had to kill all of them.

well, you know. just a bit of advice. if you're an assassination rogue and you find out your turtle glitched up and isn't doing any damage, forget to reapply your poisons and do almost no dps, and end up getting hit by nemesis's fire AoE because of poor timing on the item.. well. you're screwed. just saying. not fun.

I had to attempt this quest a second time before successfully completing it. The first time, I fled when I couldn't find the totem on my action bar. I took considerable damage, but survived (Draenei Retadin with about 50k health in blues and greens). On my second attempt, I bolstered my attack power (relative to the first attempt) with a couple of armor upgrades and a Titanic Strength flask, and was able to burn Nemesis down faster this time. However, he erupted sooner as well, which suggests his ability is tied to his Health Point percentage (I can't say this for certain, especially in light of the post above where the player was able to finish him off before the eruption, but it is a fairly common mechanic in boss fights...).

I was also too slow to activate the totem, and took the eruption hit. It took me from more or less full health down to somewhere in the 30 - 40% range. But again, survivable in melee range for Plate-wearers near full health with decent questing gear (I know, a contradiction in terms. But relatively speaking... And let's just say cloth and leather wearers should not expect to be as lucky). I finished him off quickly after the eruption snafu.

I got this on the first try, but the cooldown for the totem is longer than Nemesis' Eruption, so I did get hit once.

A couple of thoughts here, after following some of the instructions here and dying three times anyway before success:

1. Do yourself a favor and put the totem on a key binding and/or the action bar. It's MUCH easier and faster than trying to frantically move the mouse and click on the icon representing the totem in the Objectives area.

2. Use the totem as soon as you can when Nemesis is about to erupt - don't wait until just before it happens. At first I was doing it just before the eruption, and because the timing of the eruptions is essentially identical to the totem's 20 second CD, by the second or third eruption you'll find yourself unable to get the shield up in time... then your turtle dies, your totem stops working... and soon you're dead, too. As long as you see the message that Nemesis is about to burst again, the shield will hold up long enough if you invoke the totem.

Once I did these two things it was a very easy kill.

Unless you are underpowered, I'd like to suggest you don't obsess too much about the child turtle and the totem. Spending time thinking about it distracted me from working my own abilities. It was only after both the child turtle and I died that I got myself together, rebuffed, and killed Nemesis without one. I'm a rogue, I have Cloak of Shadows and I'm not afraid to use it!

I thought Nemesis was a little disappointing. Running a level 82 Afflock in blue/green quest gear, I took him (her/it?) down quickly and easily.

Of course, to be fair, I was a bit concerned because of some of the previous posts, so I summoned my Doomguard to start the attack. That got things off on the right foot!

Dotted up, haunt, seed of corruption, then hit the totem. By the time the first eruption was over, Nemesis was down to 10% health.

easy quest, just use that totem as soon as you need to.

2 EASY steps how to get out:
1, be an holy paladin
2, ignore the mobs and just keep running sometimes do holy shock/word of glory xD

Forgot to use the totem; the blast isn't even close to deadly.. Just ignore it if you don't feel like using the totem :P

For hunters, don't even use the turtles protection, send your pet in and stand right at the edge of your ranged weapons. Nemesis' area attack won't reach you, but you might want to throw the occassional mend pet into your rotation.

This quest was easy for me, as a level 81 arcane mage. Use the 4 arcane blast and arcane missiles combination, and use the totem when it pops up he is about to explode, and you're fine. Having mana shield up will obviously help also.

Apparently the turtle you go along is the same one as in the Molten Front daily quest for killing an echo of Nemesis; "Nemesis is about to erupt! Get under Tooga's shell!"

Finish Nemesis

Use the Totem of Tortolla and the help of a Child of Tortolla to defeat Nemesis. See Garunda Mountainpeak if you lose your turtle companion.

Your turtle companion can use this newfound power to render the two of you invulnerable for a short period of time. You can "turtle up" to avoid the worst of Nemesis and his fury. To do so, simply invoke this totem.
