If you find that your DPS is not enough (say if you're a holy paladin *cough*) and Tortollo eventually dies, you can summon the turtle again. Saved my ass when he had 3% left.

My mage got stomped to death by the King. I flew back to watch the end of the fight, after eating and drinking, my mage did a little more fighting and then it was all over. So don't give up if you die.

Be aware that you can pull aggro from Tortolla, which will most likely lead to a quick death. I'd advise against blowing cooldowns and going all out if you're a decently geared dps.

Friendly advice from one tank to another:

Feral druids: Don't be in bearform for this encounter.

Prot warriors: Don't be in defensive stance for this encounter

Prot palas: Make sure your righteous fury is off.

Blood DKs: Make sure you're not in Blood prescence

King Moltron hits like a truck. He chopped me up (protwarrior 75k hp) in a few seconds.

Moltron is south-west of the Sulfuron Spire, There should be a small group of molten giants roaming the area

If you're doing this quest at level 85, be warned - the turtle's threat is very low. Sit back and just auto attack or refresh dots, as he melees for 25k on plate.

If you get killed during the fight against King Moltron, don't release. Tortolla can finish him off and you will still get credit for the kill.

I found this quest to be very misleading from the opening text. I imagined both from how it discribed Tortolla as 'being able to fight for an eternity, and also how in war of the ancinets how he faught and held of an army of demons by himself, that he would easily hold off against one magma lord...

Not so. He will die unless you help the fight and kill the king before he kills Tortolla. Kinda disappointing considering what I expected Tortolla to be like in a fight.

The big guy killed me, but I made it back in time to watch the turtle kill him and get credit. It's not pretty, but it works.

Just did this at 85. A healer and tank would be a nice help, but I just made sure, as a Ret Pally, that I did not out dps the turtle. Mainly just autoattack, with some Exorcism in there when it procs.

I overaggroed on this with my cat druid and he hit me twice, once with a load of overkill but for some reason I did not die.

Either it bugged because I hit shadowmeld at the same time, tortolla now protects you from death, or ferals have a talent like cheat death / cauterize that I am not aware of.

Thanks for all the advice. I did this as a level 82 Subtlety Rogue.

I used my Tricks of the Trade to transfer my threat to the turtle. For my finishing blow I'd use Rupture instead of Eviscerate. It took a while but the big guy went down, easy peasy.

I would caution you against wandering too far during the fight. I attracted the attention of one of his magma giant buddies who stomped me into the ground right after King Moltron died.

Note- if you die, then decide it would be best to wait till the end of the fight to rez, discover that you don't get credit for the quest if you're dead, then fly back to rez, DON'T rez by your body. I couldn't see the magma lord, but as soon as I rezzed, he stomped me, killing me again.

Tortolla did a good tanking for my 82 warlock, we just burned him down.

If you do this quest at level 85, do not do more than autoattack. I waited about 5-10 seconds, then peeled off tortolla in 1 stormstrike, then got 3-shot by king molton.

Did this with a level 85 blood DK that almost got killed because I pulled aggro from Tortolla. Had to run away with Bone Shield after he hit me for 15-25K several times, also rune tapping health back into me when I could, and once Tortolla got aggro back I stopped with my special attacks (except for Death Strike to recover health) and backed off when the threat window turned yellow. Easy kill... if you don't pull aggro.

I just finished this quest as an 85 Fury Warrior. He killed me on my first attempt because Tortolla just doesn't move quite fast enough to jump on him and aggro him off of you. When I rezzed, I summoned Tortolla from a ways away from him, then attacked once Tortolla had his focus. Quite simple fight once Tortolla is fighting him, so, be sure to summon Tortolla and give him time to get aggro before you start attacking if you're soloing!

Did as 85 Frost mage. Used my mirror image, Frostfire Orb, Brain Freeze.... everything. I summoned the Tortolla first. I fought from a distance and Tortolla kept aggro til we killed the King.

I did this with my level 85 DK-Unholy with Pet. I got just so close to the King without aggro him, hit the drums, the Turtle came and stated his DPS work. I waited until the King and Turtle were mixing it up pretty much, then sent my Pet in. I got close to the King and even hit him a couple of times. But my health was 1/2 gone, I kept to my spells, but, NO AOE spells. I did not want the kings buddy joining the fight. What killed the King was I threw a frost spell on him and his turns his attention to me which gave the Turtle an opening SHOT at the King. Who dies shortly there after. but my Poor Pet was picked up by the Kings buddy, who killed him then came a running after me. So I ran as fast as I could, and got out of his range. No death to me, completed quest and turned in! Level up!

FYI hunters you can't misdirect to Tortolla. Not that you need to, but it would be fun to truly unload on the King.

just went and tried to kill on my barely geared 85. thinking he was a rare. he almost killed me and i had to use a *!@#on of cooldowns. when he dropped nothing, i had to rage quit.

Just did this quest with my Arms warrior. His item level is only 337. The trick is you have to summon the turtle god and let him tag Magma first. But I'm sure most of you knew that. I've never had Tortollo die on my characters.

For those people trying to complete quests without reverting to flying mounts, this one (like all the rest of the quests in Hyjal) can be completed. The route I used was around the lava lake from north side, bit of hill climbing got me over the wall. If you don't want to return with hearthstone, you can get back up from the south side of the lava lake. Hearthstone might be faster/safer though.

atm this quest is NOT doable at all if you are NOT 85 but leveling in that area.
even with auto-attack you agro and then get killed by him and then the turtle...

gotta LOVE bugalysm....

Hunters turn your pet off! Especially if you send your pet in BEFORE beating the drums for Tortolla. The lord will ignore Tortolla and come after you once he makes short work of your pet.

[The magma giants who serve Ragnaros are kept in line by their king's heavy-handed rule. Were we to take care of him, the rest will surely fall into disarray.

Without the giants, the fight on the ground will get a lot more even. Perhaps even tilt to our favor.

But felling the magma monarch will be no easy task. Use these drums to enlist the help of the great Tortolla who is capable of holding off King Moltron for an eternity. But holding him off won't be enough -- and that's where you come in.]
