Click the item you get, it will turn you in the direction you need to go for a fossil. Additionally it tells you in the chat pane how close you are "You are very close". At some point it startet turning me always around when I used the item and after about 3 times turning on the spot it said "you should dig here" and a big bone appeared wich was lootable. The Fossil-Finder thing works when mounted.

Click it multiple times when you are at the spot. It spawns. It's not just there.

I just finished this. Once I was in the general area and used the Finder, it pointed me in a direction. I started to run and my toon "bumped" to the side. I stopped and "Dig Here" appeared along with a mound of dirt that wasn't there a second ago. So just go in the direction it points your toon to and when it gets to "2 second beeps", then "1 second beeps" then "finder is brightly flashing" you are pretty much there.

How many times do you have to use this thing to get a fossil, I've used it abou 20 times now and I get nothing but mounds of dirt.

So let me get this straight - there's this goblin who has a device that works better than the finder we use for archaeology - points us in the right direction, informs us of distance...but we don't get to use it apart from this quest?

So for me the quest worked as above except mine turned up @ 33.01,74.52

Once it starts telling you that "you're very close!", it will probably begin turning you around in circles each time you use it. Don't get frustrated and give up, keep going where it tells you, even if you feel like you're chasing your tail, the mound with the fossil will eventually show up! :-)

Took me a while to figure it out: when it start pointing you in circles, just walk/ride a bit forward, and you will bump into an invisible item, shifts you a little to the left/right. That's where you should use the item again, and then you can loot it.

In case you are high lvl doing Loremaster DO NOT use your Flight Mount as you never find fossil. Use Ground mount ONLY.

spend 30 min to figure it out.

[One of the things I hate the most about digging is the fact that half the time, all you find is dirt. That's why I've been spending most of my time out here tinkering instead of digging.

Let me show you what I've invented: the Fossil-Finder 3000. I just put the finishing touches on it. If it works properly, it should find the largest fossils in the area. I know, sweet, huh?

Test it out and see if you can find some ridiculously big dinosaur bones.]
