Introduced in patch 3.3, these nests contain vanity pets. The pets you can get from these are:

Leaping Hatchling from Takk's Nest
Darting Hatchling from Dart's Nest
Razormaw Hatchling from Razormaw Matriarch's Nest
Ravasaur Hatchling from Ravasaur Matriarch's Nest

Prior to 3.3, these pets dropped from rare creatures that are on five to eight hour spawn timers. The other hatchling pets, such as the Razzashi Hatchling, are not obtainable from nests.

Ok, sorry for late post. I got Dart at 10:12 yesterday. Nest took 45 mins or so to spawn. It spawned between two trees just north of quest giver. (Aerie Peak)

Nest is not spawning after Dart is slained definately.
I killed Dart and checked all spawning locations plus every tree and bushes. For 20 mins and there is still no luck.
I learned Darting Hatchling yesterday after I found it @ 47,18.
It sells around 1200g so why not farming.

I just have to say that this is absolutley ridiculous. You come out here and find the rare spawn, kill it and then have to wait anywhere from 20min to an hour for the nest to spawn, during which time ANYONE can come and take the nest you just wasted a bunch of time looking for? I preferred it when the rare spawn dropped the pet.

I have a theory that the nest spawns for some number of minutes, then hatches into the Silver Elite.
I have never seen the nest AND the elite, but I have looted the nest and I have killed the elite.
I suspect that the nest spawns, and if unlooted, hatches - and the silver eilte remains until it is killed. (So if you see the Silver, be sure to kill it so the nest can respawn.)

No the theory about the next turning into the mob has a chance i suppose.But i have found the nest and the mob in the exact same spot dart was just standing there so you could be right.

When I went there, I'd just seen the co-ordinates and was prancing about the four spots hoping to find the nest. When I saw Dart, I started following it, thinking that it would eventually happen upon the nest. It did just that. Found the nest at (46,17) and THEN killed Dart just for the sake of felling an elite...

So, I don't know if the nest only spawns when you kill Dart. Most likely, the nest and Dart spawn at the same time like Takk.

I will confirm this theory when maintainance is over.

I just looted the nest, was running away and bumped into Dart while he was running around. I've also looted the nest with no dart and killed dart with no nest.

I just found the nest, and dart.

I've been farming all of the raptor hatchlings for a while, and was under the impression that: If i kill the rare, and loot the nest; when the mob or the nest respawns the other will aswell.

Also, on that note... I've never found a nest spawn without the rare. It is possible that on the occasions where people have found such occurances people have killed the mob and not successfully looted the nest.

I know this is random and different across realms, but this nest and the Razormaw nest seem to be the easiest to get. Takks nests is quite well known and can be stumbled upon by the mass amount of lower-levels in the Barrens. Ravasaur is the most profitable and is the first nest people will search for if hunting for the hatchlings, so thats usually gone.

Whereas this pet and the Razormaw are in fairly obscure locations in somewhat less populated areas than the other two, I'm not saying this nest will definitely be here but if you just want to get at least one hatchling you should consider Dart and Razormaw first.

Pretty annoyed as i saw dart and thought the pet was pretty much mine!

Ok after much more searching the dart eggs spawned 20mins later after the kill infront of me ... strange?

I don't think that would have anything to do with it. Tho it might have seemed as it did. That would mean that even if someone found the nest 30 min ago, it would spawn again if dart was killed.
A few weeks, I spent a weekend (or had to spend the weekend at home due to the flu) just camping this guy and takk.
I did on occasion kill dart or takk and if I had not seen the nest in some time, I might see it after the kill.
I wrote down every time I killed a rare and when I found a nest. I was able to keep written notes from early Saturday through tuesday night. Having more than one account allowed me to stay logged on if I chose. If I'd found a nest at 6, I'd log off and then on again 2-3 hours later and stay there. I can't say I was watching the computer every minute. There were things like potty breaks and all in all not feeling well, so my attention wasn't 100% (an under statement)
All in all I got the feeling the eggs spawned 4-6 hours. I would not be surprised if it were as often (tho not necessarily at the same time) as the rare did/does.

In one case , I saw the razormaw nest in less than 4 hours. Could I swear to it?
No, but I am fairly sure of my times.

In order to really know, someone would need to have one or two accounts logged on to one area and be able to watch it for not only the nest, but for other players. Someone else could just stop by or log on in a few sec in an area you cannot see, grab the nest and it wouldn't be known if it did or did not spawn.

A few weeks I might have said it was random, now I am leaning more toward a spawn time.

If you are looking for one in particular, I would take a day you have the time to spend 6-8 hours looking. Stay in the area and keep any eye out for the spawn points. I do feel it is something you can just wait out.

I have all 8 now, and I found all but the one:Gundrak Hatchling. I bought this one.
The Ravasaur - in un'goro is one I almost bought. I hate un'goro. I can't see anything, even when on my desktop with a 29" monitor. Place is depressing. I wanted that one because it matches king krush, one my hunters pets.
Out of no where, I walked around the area- looking at the coords listed and there it was. I was really surprised. So I grabbed that one. It was the last one I have seen. Probably because I just can't take being in that area more than a few minutes. /sigh

LOL after farming takk's nest with no result, i thought of farming this one instead... 8 people were running around looking for the nest... i ganked a couple og low hordies and then i saw it... the guys kinda ran around it.. so i sprinted and took it... easy....

To keep you all updated.....there are a total of 5 spawn points for the rare nest.
The spawn time is about 6 ~ 8 hrs once looted and the time spawn defer from the rare Dart.

Others tends to loot the nest but leave Dart alone and this will indeed create a confusion, of Dart and the rare nest is spawning at the same time or later.

For farmers, take note of the loot time(server) and return between 6~8 hrs later for the next spawn of the nest.

I found Dart's Nest at Co ords 47 - 17 at 12:30pm today. (Just between teh 2 tree's behind Stinky Ignatz)

Returned this evening and found the nest again at Co ords 48 - 14 at 20:22pm (Northern point on a mound next to a tree).

Times are local and Server is Blade's Edge.

I have found so far with TWO of the spawns, in dustwallow marsh and with the barrens, that when the rare spawn appears, within 10-25 minutes afterwards of having the rare spawn run or pat around its area, the nest will spawn. I have not killed the rarespawn, and leave it patting around, while patting myself through the spawn points and looting the nest when it appears within 20 minutes of the rare spawn appearing. I have consistently found that on the Thorium Brotherhood server that the rarespawns appear around the 1:45 pm mark and the egg spawn will appear shortly afterwards. I have retrieved two of the pets so far, have not looked in the wetlands or un'goro crater at this time of day.

ive got the leaping hatchling and the razormaw hatchling these nest have a very high chance to find on lowly populated servers and im on spinebreaker eu i am hoping to collect all of them by tonight

I used /target Dart macro and i found Dart, then i searched around a bit and found the nest at 48/14. on Ghostlands the hatchlings cost 300g each. yesterday i farmed all hatchlings and got 1200g easily

Just got this pet :D There are lots of raptor nests in the area, and I actually found it by following Dart around (he runs around the area) and eventually he led me right over it.
Very cute pet, will randomly 'dart' away from you at top speed kind of like the mulgore strider pet before returning.

I was in the area so I went to check it on a whim; found it at it's northern spawn point. Dart came patrolling by several seconds later.

To clarify exactly how to get the pet:

What you are looking for is a nest near a tree, it doesn't matter if you kill Dart or not. Once you loot the nest the pet is a 100% drop rate.

Please don't be fooled. There are other nests in the area that spawn but do not give hatchlings. I found 3 nests actually lined up in a row before I realized that the nest I needed has two unhatched eggs and one hatched one. The other nests had more eggs but no drops. Also, Dart's nest disappears when looted.
I think Blizzard is playing mind games with us.
Next time I go searching, I'm going to try making an macro"/ tar Dart's nest" and see what happens.

As of 4.03a this nest still spawns in the area like it did pre patch. I've not collected it from each location but assume it hasn't changed.

Just got this today 4pm server time on bleeding hollow. had a restart at 8pm server time so that's 8 hours. was camping out sense 10. found it at 46, 17 right behind Stinky Ignatz between the two trees. i killed dart 30 minutes earlier. (don't know if this had any effect).

I'd say about 75% of the time I find Dart's nest, Dart has been present. Same with the Razormaw Matriarch and Takk. The Ravasaur Hatchling seems to be the toughest to find, and the times I've spotted the matriarch, the nest is nowhere to be found. Happy nest hunting :)

Just to add to what people above have said, every time that I went there and didn't see Dart, there was no nest present. Today was the first I'd seen Dart there, and the nest had spawned (49.2, 17.5 as marked on map above).

I have to be lucky. I found Dart and chased him down and the spot that I killed him just happened to be where the nest was. Got the pet and Dart in the same spot.

Was circling the area searching for the nest when Dart... Darted at me. After the kill I continued to circle until I found the nest about 1 minute later behind Ignatz (it wasn't there before). The Tuesday maintainence had ended about an hour and a half ago, so we can safely assume that Dart and his nest have the same respawn time, but don't spawn at the same time.

Used the waypoint macro, took about 1/2 hour and it popped up. I got my Dart hatchling first time out. BTW Got a lot of raptor eggs too. lol

When I got to the marked area, I was circling about looking for dart's nest. Apparently there was another nest which looks nearly the same as dart's nest except that its unclickable. So to those who went there and felt disappointed, look around closely and you might find the actual nest.

Also, when I went there, Dart was circling the area like a mad raptor in a small - medium radius. If your a hunter, you might want to tame Dart and pair her up with her hatchling =)

Just found the nest at 46.6 - 17.1 which is between the two trees behind "Stinky" Ignatz. No Dart around although I have killed him twice in the past with no nest in sight. Good luck :)

I just wanted to confirm that the coordinates offered are valid. I found Dart's Nest today at the coordinates of 47,19, Llane server at 1:04pm. I did kill Dart before finding the nest but as I understand it they are on separate spawn timers. Good luck!

It took me three different goings over before I found it. I apparently found the east nest. It was just a quick movement over the hill behind the guy in the area who gives an escort quest.

Wow so my luck today just keeps getting better and better, just found this hatchling 10 minutes after I found the leaping hatchling, and before that I found the razormaw hatchling. I'm thinking that they all spawn at the same time. No one must be looking for these right now, or I'm really just having good luck today! Found on bleeding hollow at 11:40am est

I got this nest and my companion at the northern spawn point. The nest was being guarded by the rare npc Dart. Dart no longer drops the non-combat pet, you have to click on the nest. I found the nest and Dart again almost 4 exact hours later.

Just wanted to confirm the North listed coordinate. Dart spawned about 7am EST then the nest spawned at the Northern location at 9:41am EST. I sat there for about 4 hours. Only saw one other person who gave up quickly. On the Norgannon server.

Can actually confirm all of these now. If you are on Norgannon? NO ONE EVER LOOTS THESE. I know because I have gotten 7 of them in the past 2 days and have NEVER seen another player there. Go get one! I have only seen Dart 3 of the times I looted the nest. It seems he is on a seperate spawn timer and the nest usually spawns about an hour to one hour after him.

Just looted it at 3:25 server time on Deathwing... I also found Dart before hand and killed him and read some comments. It spawned while I was reading. So people say it doesn't spawn when the mob is killed, but that means that 6-8 hours ago it was looted or despawned and I just got really lucky or it might just spawn with the mobs death. /shrug.(It was also at the northern spawn point.)

Picked it up again today at 9:21 server time.

found today at 6:34 pm server time on ysondre. went to all 4 spawn points and nothing found. on second pass of first spawn location 48, 14.5 checked, Dart snuck up and attacked me. after killing dart moved on to other spawn locations and found Darts nest at the next location i hit which was 47.9, 19.0! Happy Hunting!

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KILL THE RARE TO GET THE COMPANION! I never kill the rares. Some times i tame them, But i NEVER kill them! The nests are always there, and nobody hangs out around the nests but me! I promise this. If you were a moma raptor would you want to die so someone could steal your baby, or atleast see if it will hatch? Hehe. Anyway..... Dont kill these rares, for this little strategy you guys made up does not work! The easiest to farm is Leaping Hatchling, personally.This little bugger is ALWAYS there. There are only three spawn points, so its quick and easy to get. Spawn timer is pretty low, 6-8 hours. Pet collecters pay great deals for this little cuties! If you are interested in one, or want to sell them just camp the mountain in northeastern nothern barrens! Dart is also a great little pet. Simply go to one of the 5 spawn locations and camp. here are a couple things you should note though.
If you follow Dart, Takk, or any of the rares around the nest, they will lead you to them!
Its best to sell these little fellas on populated servers, even though some more people may be at them!

The longer you just sit there the more impatient you will get, dont farm them like that. Thats only a way to get yourself frustrated! Quest, dungeon, PvP, do something, cuz these babies only spawn every 6 hours or so. You will get unenthusiastic and bored, you will be facepalming and will probaly smash your head into the keyboard. Take my advice and relax.

I found Dart today and killed her ("her" because she has a nest with eggs) near Stinky, and then went looking for the nest. I finally found it at 49.1/17.3, where the 3:00 pin is on the map. It is at the bottom of a hill, at the base of a big tree next to a medium tree, and I spotted it because the pinkish color of the eggs in all the swamp greenery caught my eye. Looted the Darting Hatchling.
