After killing a couple waves of his crocs for the quest, he'll hop down and start wailing on you. Carefully kite him through the croc eggs, but make sure not to walk through them yourself. This will slow down his movement as well as his attack speed, which is critical for a squishy's survival.
Much like many of the newer quests, if you kill the guy even after someone else has tagged him, you'll get quest credit.

Only saw two croc egg piles while fighting this guy, then was too busy trying to stay alive to find any more (note: they spawn outside the pit as well!). Just confirms that tankadins still have decent survivability, as I managed to kill him using no more croc eggs (not even sure the 2nd pile counted coz I stood on it myself) :D

Having watched two groups of higher lvl people only just suceed, this amused me greatly :)

It is recommended that you line up the path between croc eggs in advance. Make sure you know where you plan on kiting him at least 1 croc egg ahead of where you are going.
Also note that you do not have to keep attacking him after you start the encounter.
The croc eggs alone will kill him if you are patient.

As a warrior, be ready with Enraged Regeneration and maybe bandages too. You will need all the healing you can get.

Load of bugged BS... I'm all the way across the pit from him and he's still hitting me. He's pathing in the other direction and still hitting me.

i also noticed that i was getting hit even after he was dead. there were no crocs in sight, so i dont know what was going on. i did it on two characters, once on my druid, and then on my hunter. same thing happened on both!

Really cool fact - Wait until someone else is half dead, and the mob has 1% life left, then hit it with an instant, so you get credit for 1 seconds work.

Beastmaster hunter, using aspect of hawk mostly. Started with a bear on passive. I set up behind a nest of eggs. Hunters mark, concussion shot then serpent sting. Once he hit the first group of eggs, bear on defensive to get it attacking and moved behind another pile of eggs. Cobra shot, bear on passive to kite the guy into the next egg clutch, blather, rinse, repeat. Took a while and a few tries, but it worked for me in the end. And a LOT of mend pet.

Lvl 83 Shadow Priest, quest gear only, nothing purple. Died 4 times.
Finally just kited..that's it. Went down easy. When I aggroed the occasional add, I just walked/ran away. The eggs will kill him easily.

I had trouble with him resetting. Not sure if it was a bug or if I just got too far away from him while kiting, but I never went out of the area where you find croc eggs, so I dunno. I found that hopping down from the pit wall was part of a good path too keep him going. Not hard at all as long as he doesn't reset :-\

Still bugged as of 10-24-2011, invisible baby crocolisks can attack you while you're doing this quest. Most annoying, even on a prot paladin they were able to kill me rather quickly (even after using all my CDs). I put in a ticket and the GM said the devs were working on a fix. Oddly enough in the 11 times I've done this quest this was the first time I've had this bug. Hopefully they will fix it soon.

What a horrible quest! I didn't die, but he was at like 98% health and I kept getting attacked by the baby crocs. Speaking of a crock.

he is bugged for some reason u will get crushed like a bug if he gets near you with crocs, there is a way though, keep dpsing him as much as you can before luring him into baby crocs eggs. Once you are into the first one keep kiting him through the rest, they deal like 2-3 % dmg each pile. On my rogue I managed to get him to around 25% without using eggs my hp was about 10% but successfully finished him in around a minute using baby crocks

I usually do pretty well when soloing elites such as this one. The pets were cake walk, but when he popped down, I noticed he had a ton of damage for a simple quest like this! I could get him to about 15% health, and I'd just have to vanish because I would be close to death. I knew there had to be some sort of trick! Thank you WoWHead! You've saved me once again!

Still buggy today - trying to do it with a frost mage, which should be ridiculously easy, given Caimas is slowable. No dice, three deaths, all with Caimas pretty much on the other side of the pool from me.

Combat Log says I'm being dazed by the baby crocolisks (even though I didn't step in any eggs), and still being able to run arond... daze fades, die right away, still with Caimas comfortably far away, and no mention of any damage in the Combat Log.

Done the quest on three other chars, so I know the mechanics... Reported the bug, but Blizzard's probably too busy with making love to Pandas to fix bugs.

Confirmed, still bugged. Did this as a unholy DK. Hunter joined, so we partied up. I slowed him with chains of Ice, and used DC when available. Hunter blasted him away.

I died without any obvious reason, and nothing was in the combat log about it.
(And this happened 6 times also a few times to someone else)

After not moving for a while even if he's on a large distance you die, maybe a strange phased version of him? I was Frost mage btw so there's no way that guy could've reached me.

I got one-shotted by nothing while doing this quest. Thrown damage, thrown damage, dead. I watched an 85 warlock land and attempt it, and she too was one-shotted by nothing, nothing in the combat logs. My lvl 85 disc priest guildmate turned up, shielded both of us & we tried again; the quest was completed, but all three of us instantly died at various points a few seconds afterward. Happened both inside & outside the pit.

I did find that I was being one shoted for no apparent reason as well on an 85 mage. However after several attempts I noticed if I did not hit him while he has the croc debuf I was not one shotted. Hope this works for others. I also stood at the top of the podium of the pit and made him walk to me then jumped down and finished him.

I managed to do this as an 83 unholy dk. I died a few times in a row, same as shown above... hit by nothing, dead. I went off and did some other quests and came back a half-hour later and was able to do it...

One thing of note is that while I was getting hit by the phantom damage, when I'd die and come back, Caimas was waiting for me (didn't have to re-do the crocs again)... But when I went off and did other quests, and came back to it, I then had to re-do the crocs again, but this time i was able to kite Caimas alone around and let the eggs kill him, while also leaving the random Death and Decay just for a bit of extra damage.

I did get hit by a couple phantom nothings, and only had like 5% life left at the end, but I was able to complete it solo.

kite him to the river without getting him or you near croc eggs. then beat him down. just killed him using that method as a 84 afflic lock with voidwalker as tank

Just confirmed that as long as you don't actually make him walk over any eggs he will not one hit you. just kite him away from the eggs just to be safe and dps him down.

this might make it a bit harder as the quest was intended for you to deal extra dmg with the eggs but since it's impossible to utilize them you might need a friend to help but most likely not.

There is something in different phase. I tried with my hunter's snake trap and those snakes begun to hit air and die one by one. Every other trap disappears too if they are thrown left to pit master!

It alternates between killing me in a few hits or one hit, even at range. Once I hit him once and I died instantly..

Caimas does not appear to be the cause of the phantom damage. I was able to finally solo Caimas with a Blood DK. Does not appear to be the crocs either as they were never triggered. I was still taking this damage even after Caimas was dead. I opened a ticket but after reading the comments here this has been an issue since 4.0?. The weird thing is I was not able to see anything in my combat log about the phantom damage. Though my ghoul was able to attack the phantom menace even though I was not. Wonder if Blizzard will ever fix this bug. Very frustrating. I would have to agree with the above poster that it is probably a phased mob glitch.

Ditto to the bug, the boss was waiting there when I showed up(someone must have failed it). Cleared the mobs around the area and kited him around with my arcane mage's slow and arcane barrage and blast. Quest completes when he dies. Didn't have luck on my DK. Got blown up alot of times.

Me and a guildie kept wiping on him for a while today from the bug. It seems like it's a phased mob problem. I was healing my guildie cause he needed help with it. There was one time when I casted a heal on him and several "Attacking you!" showed up and I died instantly right after. Another time, I had slowly been taking damage like there was only one enemy attacking, but nothing was and it continued for a minute then I got nuked again.

After we had finally killed him we were just standing on the side of the pit talking and I died all of the sudden.

So it's definitely not Caimas doing it. All I have to suggest to people trying to do this is just keep trying and eventually you'll get it.

WORKAROUND

As posted above, pull him from max range towards the river. Then kite him back and forth parallel to the river. It works, I just did it, did not die after he fell, be wary of AoE'ing a wasp.

I don't think it's just the mobs that are bugged on this quest, I think the whole thing is a little off.

I died 3 times to the phantom damage, so on my final rez, I stood by the edge of the pit and watched a pally and warrior lead him on a wild chase around the egg piles. The pally only hit Caimas once to get aggro, then they just ran around. The warrior killed the serpents/wasps/scalehunters/etc, while the pally held Caimas. I couldn't assist (Horde vs. Ally), so I just stood there and took notes for technique.

In any case, after about 10 minutes of running around, Caimas dropped. But MY quest got marked complete. I can understand if he was able to share the quest, but this is kind of confusing to me.

Any input?

Yep, still bugged... like entire time that cata has been out. Invisible mob seems to 1 shot you, not the crocs, nothing registers. As a shadpriest I found a nice workaround: pull him to the "pen" that is between the pit and the river, and kite him around that. You can make him go back and forth on the other side of a fence and slow/dot/dps him safely.

BLIZZ C'MON! Not fixed in a year even with tons and tons of reports?

Kite him like 100yard away of you ..u will probably aggro the thrash around .took me 5min to make him die

Tried to do this quest, and i can just say I'm extremely frustrated with it. I cleared out the mobs around him, didn't even attack him and these "invisible" npc's just destroy my pet and knocked me down a ton of health(10%). I think I'll just skip this quest for now. F--- you Blizzard! /headdesk

I was oneshotted even when Caimas did not, in fact, run over any eggs. However, kiting Caimas to the river (without any eggs being broken) did work. (Though I nearly got killed by the random mob aggro I ran into running backwards...)

As a lvl 84 Undead hunter, I soloed him with my Beetle, just kept healing it whilst using powerful shots and never got any aggro from Caimas. Pretty easy really even when he has around 600k; took about 2-3 mins for me or so.

Soloed on a level 83 Shadow Priest. I totally forgot about the whole trick with the eggs, so I just ran up to him and started attacking. Used shield every time it was up, mana potion, Dispersion, and healed occasionally. I killed him with SW:Death just as he was about to kill me (I had 7k health left). Just keep DoT's up and you should be fine.
