Cataclysm Preview: The Battle for Gilneas
Blizzard has released another preview, this time of the new battleground coming in Cataclysm -
The Battle for Gilneas
! This new 10 vs 10 battleground will take place in the actual city of Gilneas, and feature many familiar objectives. Much like
Arathi Basin
, you must control
one of three capture points
that accumulate points - first team to 2000 points is the victor! What's so great about this map that it's actually
in
the city so there are all kinds of choke points and places you can strategically block the opposite faction from progressing.
You can read the entire preview after the break or on Blizzard's official
website

4.0.1 Now Available on the Background Downloader
It seems when users start up their launchers on the live client you will be greeted with a nice message that says --
Data for the next patch is available.
What does this mean everyone? It means we have finally begun the pre-loading of the 4.0.1 patch. Usually spread out over weeks prior to the release of a major content patch users can grab a huge chunk of the already completed items in the patch so not everything is downloaded on patch day.
To get the background downloader started all you should have to do is boot up the Launcher and make sure you have the options enabled to download in the background.

Cataclysm Changes to Badge/Emblem System
Bashiok just posted a very interesting announcement!
It seems in the upcoming 4.0.1 patch (which is currently on the PTR), all old PvE and PvP tokens will be converted to a new currency system. Badges like
Emblem of Frost
and
Emblem of Triumph
will be converted into
Justice Points
, and all PvE gear that had badge costs will be converted to the new Justice Points system.
On the PvP side, Arena Season 8 will end with 4.0—all Arena, Honor, any leftover Battleground marks,
Stone Keeper's Shard
and any other PvP tokens will be converted into the new version of
Honor Points
. Any items that were sold for any of the old PvP points/tokens will also be converted to the Honor Points system.
Both
Justice Points
and
Honor Points
will have a soft cap—you can go over the cap on the original conversion, but at a later point in time a hard cap will be introduced in a content patch. Any excess points after the hard cap is introduced will be converted to gold, which will be received via the mail system.
You can read the original post by Bashiok after the break!

Official Cataclysm Ashenvale Preview
Blizzard has once again graced us with another zone preview - this time with quest designers
Eric Maloof
and
Steve Burke
, who talk about the changes coming to
Ashenvale
in Cataclysm. Eric and Steve go on to talk about the new volcano that has erupted in northern Ashenvale, and how the Horde are taking over key points that were once held by the Alliance. They wrap up the preview by discussing what changed most in Ashenvale, and according to Eric and Steve the terrain is less frustrating than before but the story hasn't changed much—other than being much more intense!
You can check out the entire preview after the break and while you're at it you can check out all of our screenshots of Ashenvale in our

Cataclysm Beta (Build 12857): New Glyph UI + Eclipse Bar Redesign
You may have remembered hearing that
Glyphs
were changing from consumable items to learnable skills. Last build we saw the makings of that—now, when you use a glyph, it goes into your general tab of the spellbook, ready to be used whenever you want to place it. Well in this latest build Blizzard has taken it a step futher and given the glyphs tab of your talent frame a complete makeover!
First off they've vastly increased the size of the frame—it's now the same size as the talent frame. You now have
NINE
glyphs to select: 3 Prime, 3 Major, and 3 Minor. On the right side of the panel you will have a list of all learned and unlearned glyphs. Blizzard was also kind enough to add some advanced glyph searching! No need to scroll down the list forever trying to find that one pesky glyph to switch in.

Cataclysm: Heroic Shadowfang Keep and Deadmines Available at Launch
I know you all heard the bad news that heroic modes for
The Deadmines
and
Shadowfang Keep
wouldn't make it in for the launch of Cataclysm. Thankfully, it seems the original appraisal was wrong!
Valnoth
has come along and posted an announcement stating they
will
have the heroic modes for both SFK and DM at launch!
Heroics are not ready for testing.
Heroic Shadowfang Keep and Heroic Deadmines
WILL
be released with Cataclysm. You will not have to wait for a later patch.

Cataclysm: Zul'Gurub Gone!
Sad news for a lot of people,
Valnoth
has just made a post on the official forums stating
Zul'Gurub
will be removed in Cataclysm. No word yet on if
Swift Zulian Tiger
or
Swift Razzashi Raptor
will be moved elsewhere, but we can only hope!
Zul'Gurub is gone as a raid instance come Cataclysm.

Cataclysm Beta: More Zones Open For Testing
Valnoth
just went on a posting spree in the Official Cataclysm Beta forums announcing that several zones are now ready for testing!
Felwood
is a level 45-50 zone in Kalimdor, the quests for this area start at the Emerald Sanctuary. The completely revamped
Thousand Needles
, located in southern Kalimdor, is available for levels 40-45 and the breadcrumbs for this zone start in both Feralas and Dustwallow Marsh.
Next,
Uldum
is finally available for testing! It is available for levels 83-84 and the breadcrumbs start in
Deepholm
. The zone is not completely finished so you will run into a few stopping points. Finally,
Twilight Highlands
is also open for testing. The zone is made for levels 84-85 with breadcrumbs starting Orgrimmar and Stormwind from their respective city leaders. As with Uldum, Twilight Highlands is not completely finished and you will run into stopping points while questing!
You can read all the original announcements after the break.

Azeroth, Revisited: Stratholme in Cataclysm
Once again, we're going to dive into the beta and take a look at one of my personal favorite dungeons from classic—
Stratholme
.
Now if you don't remember anything about
Stratholme
, here's a quick rundown: Stratholme was originally one of the largest human cities in the world. During the events in Warcraft 3 (as we witnessed in
The Culling of Stratholme
), Prince Arthas finds out the plague has spread to the city and orders it purged. Later on the Undead took control of Stratholme and Kel'Thuzad established it as his capital and built the floating fortress
Naxxramas
above it.
Overall the dungeon has not changed much physically, but there is now a new wall splitting it literally into two instances. They have changed the level range for each side, levels 42-52 for the Main Gate and 46-56 for the Service Entrance.
OBLIGATORY SPOILER WARNING: DON'T READ THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Official Cataclysm Azshara Preview
