so nothign changed very much
I chose my covenant because of story, and atmosphere and all that... I didn't care about my class or my spec... still don't
GODDAMN PULL THE CORD OR LET US HAVE DUAL COVENANTS
Would be interesting to see how this data changes if you looked at specific levels of m+/PvP/raiding
Blizzard designs WoW for the "general" population of humans: there are LOTS of personality types, and Blizzard try to cater to all of them. The truth is, most of us who still play WoW are neckbeards who want to min/max, or, don't want to get gimped even by 5-10%. I bet a lot of us have some sort of engineering/mechanical degree, and we DO know that 5-10% difference can make or break something. There you go Blizz. There is your playerbase! Design your goddamn game for us, and not some hypothetical group of players who want "meaningful choice".Or, show us what meaningful choice is. Because this is not.
Meaningful choices there.I remember being on Beta and people arguing that 'People will play what they want. Only the top 1% care about dps'. Which... was obviously wrong. People check to see what's the best choice and leaned into it. As an example - I play a Disc Priest main and mainly pvp and raid heal. I have no real options. Mindgames is SO useful compared to the other options I feel compelled to pick Venthyr. As do about 80% of other Disc priests.
It kind of speaks more about players sticking to an "established meta" even when other covenants are just as viable, if not more. Take Elemental Shamans for example. Night Fae on paper is the highest ST covenant for them, yet they are last in popularity. That's because the player base makes their decisions based on second-hand information rather than actually playing and experimenting themselves.
Kind of sad to know I'm part of the 3.7% of night fae ret paladins just because I like the night fae aesthetic and soulshape ability.
I chose Night Fae Warrior because I wanted to be a tree. I may not have the big executes, but my bark is definitely not worse than my bite....I'm sorry.
The four covenants should have been mirrors of each other, systems-wise. With just different campaign stories. There was no need to make all these different soulbinds and convenant abilities, except that Blizzard just like extra work.
Remember when people were talking about Death Knights being FORCED to pick Night Fae because it was the "best" choice?I remember~
I have 4 max level priest each in different covenants because I refuse to have to regrind the progress I put into my characters. I hate the system design and depending on the content you play one is definitely better than the other by a wide enough margin it makes a difference. So I wonder how many like myself there are in these statistics 🤔
Wish they'd buff Monk Necro so I can leave the creepy angels and join the cool deadbois.
Oof. Look at all those meaningful choices. I'm sure absolutely no one could have foreseen most people picking what was best because Blizzard decided to lock player power behind what should have been cosmetic. :^) I'm so shocked!
