NEAT! Please add it to retail WoW too! Classic, TBC, Wotlk, Cata has alot of models and sets with low textures.
If they decide to touch them up by hand to fix a lot of the worst warping, then these could be the best uprezzes I've seen in any game.
ABOUT TIME! I've seen the results of using AI upscaling on older game textures, even as far back as Doom and Quake, and have been seriously impressed with the results. I've been waiting for them to run all the old textures through upscaling. I'm tired of all these years later the classic gear from vanilla through Wrath looking awful next to the current stuff. "Colored vaseline smears" was fine in 2005 with the hardware and monitor resolutions of the day. These days it just looks plain awful.I'm assuming this is a test before they bring this to retail.
Retail badly needs this. There are a million old looking things in the game. A million blurry things that hurt my eyes. This is EXACTLY what i wanted for the last 15 years. Lets hope they do the right thing and not just keep this in the old version.
"16 times the detail!" - Todd Howard
I mean, its cool and all, but lets be honest, people talking about that 'this kind of treatment should be on Retail' dont probably know that HD assets are still in the files of Retail WoW, which COULD be used to replace so many old assets which would do so much more than "Upscaling the resolution" just for the sake of saving money. If it would be me, I would rather replace the old assets with the new HD ones, but only the old assets that have a direct HD counterpart, just so that atleast some old zones would be, FINALLY get a fresh coat of paint, though, you could argue "This isn't needed right now cause the 3 next expansions will mostly overhaul some areas in the old zones like Kalimdor and Northrend" which I could agree with, but atleast having the zones transition from old graphics to new graphics, feels a little weird to me. Arathi Highlands got this treatment but still feels a little weird to think that a HD zone is in the middle of a low graphics continent exists. But I think thats just me.
I guess these are some okay-ish results for a low-effort, automated process. But it all just shows again and again how hopelessly outdated everything from before the panda era has been for years and decades now. And that visual detail not only comes from textures but that polygon count (no matter how 'well optimized'), object density and conscious design are equally important. When revisiting old zones in the game, it's actually distracting how all the terrain, vegetation, architecture and so on seem to have the same combined polygon count as your character in some modern-day armor set. The fact that we have no concrete prospect of a full old-world(s) revamp for the near future really bothers me.
great now implement it in SOD
I swear on God , the moment they put in “new wow models” - that’s literally the end of my 7 (seven) WoW accounts . Idgaf about demon hunter . Just keep monk / metamorphosis warlock . GLhf 🙌
