Really good article. As a L60 golden priest, one of the main problems as you say is that the class is generally reactive, which is difficult when you have no minions on the board due to most opponent classes having mana-efficient single and multiple target removal spells. One of the other issues is that, although SW:D and SW:P are good and SW:H can be useful, removing 4 attack minions (in Standard) remains a problem except for Entomb.Would adding some Priest class Basic cards with higher health but low attack help?
You ever gonna hit legend, Skiff? You write so much about the game, you gotta hit legend sometime!
My main is priest. Anduin is lvl 60 for about half a year now on my EU account. He has 240 wins in ranked, most being from the pre-standard era.I want to get a golden hero portrait. BUT I can't do that. Ever since Standard showed up, 3 months ago I won just 26 games with priest. Whenever I try to play it I am boggled by just how crazy it is I can't play anything on turns 2 and 3. I just sit there, twirling my fingers, putting in a hero power while my oponent nonchalantly fills the board with efficient and powerful minions. And the problem is, in the current state of the game, you HAVE to keep either Auchenai or Circle and pray that by turn 4 you get the combo off or you are dead. The ability most classes have to deal with priest's squishy minions just seems so unbalanced. Oh, turn 2 they play a Totem Golem, I play a Museum curator that dies without even denting the golem. They play a Flamewreathed Faceless on turn 4, I play a Shifting Shade that dies to the infinite other ways shaman have at dealing 3 dmg - existing minion, Rockbitter, Lightning bolt, Flametongue Totem. The ONLY option for priest is to be reactive. Or play C'thun (never managed to make it work) or Dragon (so boring.... sheebus) priest, the only decks that can consistently get minions on the board. N'zoth Priest is severely missing 3 drops and while loot hoarder can be good, getting that back 2 times can severely kill your chances of winning if your N'zoth board is cleared away. Even with all the minions N'zoth Priest has, they still require at least two offs of Auchenai + Circle, 1 SW:P and 1 SW:D at least, excavated evil and 2 entombs and other situational cards like Cabal Shadow Priest. It sucks so much that the effectiveness of an all Deathrattle priest is hindered by priest' necessity to clear other minions, because their own minions are subpar and do not trade favorably against the decks in the current meta. I really really wanted my golden priest! Can't we just get a 2 drop! Please, please... Cabal Shadow priest is not a solid enough excuse to curse Priest to a lifetime of no turn 1,2,3 plays!
Priest is one of my favourites. I am working my way through getting Golden Heroes and the couple of seasons I chose to work on Priest (pre-standard) were some of the most fun I've had. Dragon Priest got me my highest ranking ever (rank 2).Dragon Priest doesn't have problems with curving out with good 1 and 2 drops. It's quality minion after quality minion (as long as you've got a dragon in your hand to buff them) and there are tons of taunts to counter aggro. is a terrific card especially when you could use (a card not mentioned above, I notice). is a great combo with Cabal or to handle those otherwise hard to deal with 4 attack minions and, even without that, can really help with early trades. or may seem like weak early plays but combo'd with or even they can do great work.Standard has taken away a lot of the best tools from Dragon Priest but, in its day, I think it was very underestimated. Stealing the odd Ysera with a Shrinkmeister/Cabal was so much fun :D
Are there any wild priest decks that anyone has had success with lately? If so, what deck is it, how high did you rank, and where did you start at?
So annoying when people claim priest is the worst class only because it doesn't have any fast decks...
Kripp recently made a Priest deck and it had a 7 game win streak no losses. you may want to check his youtube video.
