This guy has a *ridiculously* small melee hitbox. You pretty much have to be standing directly underneath him to get in any melee attacks, which makes avoiding his 지상 포화 rather difficult.

Just got this ticked off. stood at max spell range (40yrds), i retested after completing it, Groundfire is the special you need to avoid, and it simply involves not standing point blank next to him, you can stand around 10 yards back as melee and not get hit, and stay at max spell range as a caster, his Flaming meteor ability is something cast as the NPC pulls, this is not the spell you need to be avoiding though.

As melee hit him a few times then move back, use your ranged spells, such as judgement, heroic throw, deadly throw anything of that nature and let the NPC's do the damage.

As ranged, nuke from afar, really easy.

ok, from melee point of view i'll try to tell; i just did this with my fury warrior.
i started as in that ridiculous melee range with intercept, kept spamming, stood in white areas for more damage, then when i saw him casting groundfire i heroic leaped out to max range, waited for it to be over to be safe, then charged back in with intercept. rinse and repeat; voila! ^^

just did this as a ret paladin, started to use the melee attack and run like hell method, but in the process of that accidentally found out the easy way (and most likely proper way) of doing killing him without getting getting hit by has groundfire.

the little white circles is air, jumping through them will launch you away to safety and you wont take any damage

To clarify, you have to dodge both Groundflame and Rain of Flame. Just tried the fight as an enhancement shaman with the run like hell method. I was never damaged by Groundflame, but I got clipped by Rain of Flame once and didn't get credit.

Dont try dodging or "run like hell" methods. Simplest way to avoid groundfire is to stun him while he casts that. Get a group of 3-4 people including a paladin and nuke him down.

No need to abandon the quest if you failed to avoid its abilities. I abandoned 2 times then I thought I'd practice a bit before the real thing and I got it :)

Just did this as melee today, almost impossible to do without stuns so if you don't have a stun there's an easier (albeit longer) way to do it.

Basically you just have to pretend to be a caster for a while. Sit back at max range and lightning bolt/heroic throw/exorcism from back there. You won't be doing much dps but don't worry the NPC's will actually kill him for you. That far back you don't have to worry about the groundfire and all you need to do is move out of rain. Easy-peasy.

Just to clarify, he needs to actually cast the ability 지상 포화 in order for you to get credit for the achievement.

Was able to do the achievement as a feral/resto druid with a holy/prot pally. Instead of bothering to dodge the fire, I would just stay in it while the pally stood out of range and healed me. Once we finished, we fought this guy again, but with me healing instead, using the same tactic.

Hope this helps for anyone having any problems getting this part of the achievement.

P.S. the person standing out of range still has to watch for rain of flame.

I had the Behemoth for the first time today. I noticed that if you interrupt every Rain of Flame you don't seem to get any Groundfire. You still get credit as long as you tag him first. Hope that helps.

I tagged him first, bursted like wtf, then took damage from groundfire.... so i abandoned quest meanfight, went back to questgiver, retook the quest, went back to 'boss' and it was still in fight at around 10% health. I did not hit him again, waited. It died and then i got the achi.... what the hell?

Was in party with my boyfriend and both of us got hit with 지상 포화. He stood there and died after getting hit. I was hit as well and ran out of combat to where the pools were. I came back and he was still fighting Witherbark so I hit him again(re-tagged him) and after he died I got credit for the achievement :) Boyfriend also got credit after dying and running back(though it may be because I ran out; resetting both of us).

Tldr; If you get hit by either, run away to get out of combat and come back and re-try :)

Relatively easy to get as a prot warrior.

Just be patient, thats the key

tag him charge in and use whatever you want to dps him EXCEPT for 충격파 and 충격의 일격.

Always make sure either of those abilities is off cd and that you always have enough rage to use them. Don't just spammed attacks because you need to wait for him to start casting 지상 포화 as soon as the cast finishes, shockwave or C. Blow him. From what i've seen he wont rain of fire in melee range but if its a just pummel or heroic throw him. since you're it will silence.

May take you 1 or 2 tries but once you get the timing down, it's easy.

I know this is kind of a cheesy and mean way of doing it, but this was the last I needed for the Firelands achevements so how I did it was I waited for the mob to go active, marked him, then went and waited out of harms way and moved around as needed to avoid the attacks and let others kill it. If you must do it this way try to do it to the opposite faction.

Here's what happened to me on my priest: I was the only one there, I started it and tapped him. I just dotted and ran around in a circle and I was doing great. Then when he was almost dead somebody else came up there and started killing him. When I ran past the person, he cast rain of flame on them and I happened to be next to them and got in it. So word to the wise, make sure you don't run past anybody else either.

Hmmmmm. OK i guess i should contribute once in a while and post.

So here's how the Pros do it ;) DK Tank.

1- IF you FAIL, keep quest in Log and do it again.
2-Target the "thing" (or /focus, whatever you feel confi with)
3- Talk to the Tree, Hit the "thing" with something from afar and run to the Sleepinn Dog Pack. (whatever side you choose is good to go, there are 2 packs of Dogs at both extremes of the area)
4- Wait for the cast of 지상 포화 to finish. It will begin to cast 불의 비 a few mom after. (at this stage you may wanna consider "Greener Pastures" ) ( translates to => WTF yer doinn there still ?)
5- Run (no need for Forrest Gump style of thing) to the other Sleepinn Dog Pack (on the other side) *as you pass the "thing" feel free to hit him with the kitchen sink or a simple DoT of whatever you got*
6-Wait for 지상 포화 to clear again and rinse and repeat
7-IF you fail that...consider retiring your toon or an overdose of Strawberry Yoghurt.

The Reason why you have to change dog packs is that you do not want to get him to 불의 비 on your parade ;)
Done With a DK Tank on the second try...(Horde rogue tried to get my scalp on the first try =.=)

Edit: Do NOT bother with stun, or damage, I used just my 돌발 열병 every time i passed him by and the NPCS did the dirty work.

As a melee I found it rather difficult to outrun is groundfire each time, maybe it was me being a lazy ass:p So I just basically applied rend (I am prot warrior) and some sunders and shockwave and before he casts anything I just ran away and waited for him to start and finish his cast.
I charged him and did this all over again.

It takes a bit more time but I found it rather effective.

I will say as someone else said, you do NOT have to abandon quest and pick it up if you get hit by his special attacks. I too decided to "practice" after already completing, yet not yet turning in the quest.
The second or third time I did, I got credit for killing him.
What I did was wait for the elder to spawn, talked to him, then ran, hit the behemoth a time or too, then ran back to the ramp. On the right side of the ramp is a rock you can climb on that keeps you safe from groundfire attacks, and if you have your view pulled back far enough, you can see where rainfire is falling and avoid it.
I ran down the ramp out of the way, then ran back up and hopped on the rock.
It did help that someone looking to fo the Strike at the Heart quest came up and fought it. A few times I saw the elder get killed by the behemoth, and then despawn. I am assuming it had already killed Thisalee.

hey guys, i just did this fella really easily as a rogue. the key for me was to have done the dailies with the shadow wardens. the shadow warden that comes along to help cast portals thru out the fight, so i just moved to portal and jumped thru when the behemoth was about to cast his groundfire. it ports you just out of range, too easy hope this helps :)

The simplest way is just to use whatever ranged attack you have from just inside your maximum range. That way you don't have to worry about his Groundfire AoE attack at all and there is no chance it will hit you. It may not be fast if you don't put up big numbers on ranged attacks (as a rogue, I certainly don't), but it is a sure method.

To avoid the rain of fire, just wait for him to start casting, and run to a different point just barely inside your max range and resume ranged attacks. Or, to be clear, start running when he starts casting rain of fire, and that way when his targeting circle appears under you between .5 and 1 second after he starts casting, you'll be out of it before the rain of fire comes down a second later.

Over 2 weeks and no spawn on US-Kilrogg. I check religiously. It's the last thing I need under the Cataclysm Quest Achievement tab.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen this guy. I didn't start really looking until about 2 weeks ago. It's ridiculous. It's not RNG, it's how Blizz keeps you playing.

Honestly I am not impressed with all the schemes and tricks so far. This one actually works and is foolproof.

1. Engage the mob, do some dps.

2. If you are in Groundfire or Rain of Fire and you get hit by it, RUN DOWN THE RAMP toward where the Scorpions are.

3. If you DO NOT KNOW if you have been hit, get GFTO addon or something that tells you when you're in crap.

4. Wait at the ramp until you are OUT OF COMBAT; then mount and proceed into the fight again and tag the boss (again).

5. Lather, rinse, and repeat steps 1 through 4. The Ancient Smoldering Behemoth should be taking a lot of damage from Witherbark (the ancient) and will be getting lower and lower in health.

6. For the grand finale, Witherbark (the ancient) will probably die, by a hair. Then you will proceed to demolish the Ancient Smoldering Behemoth for the achievement. By this time, he will have maybe 2% health.

In summary, I have tried many times to do this tonight in both melee and in caster mode (no stuns). The only thing that was guaranteed was when Witherbark (the ancient) died, there were no more Groundfires or Rain of Fires and he went dead w/o a hitch at so low % of health. The main thing is to get out of combat if you screw up and take damage. I believe Blizz doesn't care if you took damage somewhere in the fight, as long as you take no Groundfire/Rain of Fire damage in the last segment of combat.

To whoever thinks only Groundfire will screw you up, it's wrong. Both Groundfire AND Rain of Fire will screw with this achievement so if you get either, simply get out of combat and pretend you just walked in on the fight with the boss at 2%.

Foolproof. Rank up if you tried and it worked. Thank you.

So I read all the above comments and have another solution to getting this guy crossed off ur list for the achievement. Here's what I did at first: Tried as a resto druid and popped a couple Moonfires and Wraths at the Behemoth then letting the Ancient kill him while i healed the ancient and but after he was killed saw he was still on my list. I'm guessing that I didn't do enough dmg myself to have him count only because I know I didn't get hit by any special attacks. My health stayed at 100% the whole fight. So I abandoned the quest, then i went back to feral kitty and tried the hit and run tactic. This was working well until either a rein of fire tick hit me or I just wasn't fast enough to outrun the groundfire. Yea you'd think a Worgen Feral druid with 3 speed boosts would be able to outrun both the Rein of Fire and the Groundfire but somehow i managed to get a tick hit of the fire or the groundfire clipped me. Here's the trick of how I crossed this guy off my list.

NOTE: you should have the Wardens giving you the quest since the initial quest giver for me was by the cave just below where the Behemoth is.

Each time I got hit by a special attack I immediately abandoned the quest, ran down to the Warden and retook the quest. Then I ran back up where the Ancient was still fighting the behemoth. Since I had tagged him first it was still my kill and after 3 times of doing this the big guy went down and got crossed off my list :)

I say doing it this way is prolly easier to do if u use the Wardens as ur quest giver only because they are closer to where the behemoth stands but I suppose you could use the Talons as well and hopefully you may only need to abandon and re-take it once or twice due to the distance you'll travel to and from that quest giver. You do run the risk that the behemoth may die before u get back in range to get credit for the kill so I'd suggest this method only if you use the Wardens as your quest giver.

easyest way to do this is:

Im a ret pally btw

run in lay concecration down and hit him with ur judgement and if u can get another hit on him with your hammer then run down the hill but not too far still keep in combat with him and just stay there and you are safe from all his abilitys!

the tree will die eventually and the behemoth had a teeny tiny bit of life left so i ran up and hit him with my hammer and bam achievement done!

:D see its really that easy!

If no one mentioned this yet, easiest way to do it (and i just did it myself), run in with the NPCs, get Behemoth to 20% or so, dont wory about avoiding anything, run out far enough to exit combat, run back in when hes at 2-5% finish him, stun if you have to, and you get credit for killing him.

He came up yesterday on Zangarmarsh-US. When I got the achievement as a fury warrior, I went in close and DPSed him until the first Groundfire went out, ran out, then used Intercept to go back in after the next Groundfire, repeating the process when he did Groundfire again. This way, I was able to avoid taking damage while getting in enough to ensure that Witherlimb wouldn't die.

Ok, this achievement is VERY easy for ANY class.

Go to the area. Hit him once from range, (melee can use throw for this) and then just leave the immediate area from where you can safely watch Witherbark kill him without you needing to do anything else, run around or avoid anything. Achievement part completed, simples.

I even died 1st time I came, but ran back, abandoned quest, re-acquired quest, went back to the area used throw once from range then just left it to Witherbark and it showed that I had completed the part of the achi.

I would like to ask if I've missed something, seems that i have been killing these Lieutenants for several weeks now, and this one has yet to show, can someone please tell me if this is a glitch or if i have missed something, this is really frustrating, especially since this is the last guy to kill for the achieve title of Flamebreaker lol.

This is actually very easy to get credit for for the achievement- simply tag him once, then run to the charhounds that are yellow. You will be out of range of his abilities, and although witherbranch will die, Sira Moonwarden will not, so as long as you're willing to wait it out, you'll be fine and get credit.

On the other hand, I'll note it took me two months to finally see this guy spawn.

As melee, the first 지상 포화, will have to be avoided by running straight away from the "boss"(captain obvious i know but hold on), second and third wave (depending on your dps), you can just step to the right, where a whirlwind most probably have appeared, and this whirlwind will throw you to a safe distance! when the 지상 포화 is over you can step into a similiar whirlwind that will throw you back behind the liutenant!

(And btw, if you fail miserabely; the NPCs can pretty much solo the thing if you just punch the health down to about 85% in the beginin, then you can stand on the ramp and chill, that will reward you with the kill for the qs, and (if you managed to do the inital damaged without getting hit by the spells) progress on the achievement)

For players, such as myself, who finished the entire quest-line, completed quite a few achievements, left, but then came back a while after to finish up the rest of the achievements and found themselves wondering which and how many of the available quests they needed to complete to reach certain achievement related dailies.

Behold- the bare minimum!
You must complete these everyday (In order to reach the quests for: 공격 준비 완료 II
: (Aggressive Growth/Wisp Away)
: Burn Victims
: Hostile Elements and (Breach in the Defenses/The Dogs of War/The Harder They Fall/Traitors Return)

You must then choose one of the two quests offered by General Taldris.
You can do either, it's simply prefrence as they both lead to the necessary quest for: 공격 준비 완료 II)
The Forlorn Spire or Into the Fire

If you choose: The Forlorn Spire.
You can ignore all the quests, to proceed (other then: The Wardens are Watching which will continue the chain.)
1. The Wardens are Watching
2. Enduring the Heat
3. Strike at the Heart (i.e. Our Quest for 공격 준비 완료 II)
Important: If You don't get credit for the kill in the achievement tracker then abandon the quest and re-grab it!
Note: This Quest is Indeed a Daily (Even though Wowhead displays this version (offered by Shalis Darkhunter) as being a non-repeatable Quest.)

If you choose: Into the Fire.
You can ignore any of the quests in the immediate area other then Thisalee Crow's Quests to proceed.
1. Both of Thisalee Crow's Quests

Flamewakers of the Molten Flow
Fire Flowers- Note: You do not turn this quest into her; the quest ends back on the surface, so you must take the tunnel back up to turn in this quest. When you turn this in, there will now be offered more quests.

You can ignore any of the quests in the immediate area other then Morthis Whisperwing's Quest.
3. Morthis Whisperwing's Quest- Note: You can turn this quest into him or into Skylord Omnuron, whom you need to travel to next to obtain the next quest.
4. Strike at the Heart (i.e. Our Quest for 공격 준비 완료 II)
Important: If You don't get credit for the kill in the achievement tracker then abandon the quest and re-grab it!

The Into the Fire version is far more tedious and time consuming in my own personal opinion.
Choosing Into the Fire also has a chance to backfire as completing this method two days in a row will result in Morthis Whisperwing's Quest being Fire in the Skies which will not allow you to obtain Strike at the Heart for that day.

Aspect of the Fox
Stay at max range
Strafe

As soon as you see him cast Rain of Flame, start moving. A puddle will spawn under your feet, indicating the location of the rain. If you don't move until the puddle spawns, you will get hit by the rain. The rain lasts for ages but I found you can run back through it after the initial attack has ended, and it wont muck up the achievement. When he does Groundfire, move back out of range until it's over. You can always disengage to be sure you're clear.

So after a long time of waiting for this guys day to come up, and reading the previous posts. I, being a resto druid, ran around him after a couple 달빛 섬광's, and 요정의 불꽃(stacked to 3). Then I started healing Witherbark with hots; 피어나는 생명, 회복 and threw in a couple 재생's for good measure. Made sure to stay out of his 불의 비 and kept moving. Once he was down to 50k health I put up a couple more Moonfires. Took him down w/out retreating and got the achievement.

Hello everybody! :) I have an advice for warriors only! if u nuke this guy hard from the beggining and then hc leap out of his 1st groundfire then charge and nuke him hard again(using cooldowns both times) u will avoid his 2nd groundfire cause he will be already dead! :) this will help u considerably because ur hc leap will be in cd for his 2nd groundfire!

When the Tree NPC attacks they meet in the middle, at roughly 5 o'clock to where he stands there is a small cluster of rocks. You can stand behind these and avoid the Groundfire
