I rate this poison up from it's old version. It used to be half of an equivalent instant poison, but didn't remove an enrage effect, just causing no threat.

Unfortunately, unlike Wound, Instant and Deadly Poison, Anesthetic Poison's damage does not scale with attack power. Which means on fights where it is beneficial to use Anesthetic Poison to dispel an enrage (Gluth, Ingvar the Plunderer to name a few), you will be taking a significant DPS hit.

Unless the enrage needs to be dispelled frequently and quickly, you may be better off getting a hunter to dispel with Tranquilizing Shot instead if one is available.

I cross checked between WoWhead and Thottbot of all the listed abilities that are marked as Enrage effects in WotLK and wrote down the instance creatures and a few zone bosses. I've only confirmed two on the list in-game thus far (gluth and lava blaze).

.. if you're up against a feral, it might pay to switch to anesthetic poison.

Another great opportunity for this poison is the Sarth(1,2,3)D fight. In the chaos that ensures while wiping your way to 3D, it's a great help to have rogues AE distributing this (fan of knifes) on the enraged flame adds.

Would this work against Beast Mastery Hunters, dispelling Beast Within on the Hunter, as well as Bestial Wrath on the pet? Or perhaps, if this works on the pet, would beast within be immediately removed from the hunter? I'd check myself, but I my rogue is level 13 : / Plus, my level 79 hunter would like to know.

As a combat rogue this poison seems better for dps because it procs more than instant poison and does slightly more dps than it overall when coupled with deadly posion on offhand which all rogues should be doing anyway. as a mutilate rogue id go with instant/deadly because envenom is used more in place of eviscerate. But using wound poison is better for 5 mans because more npcs heal and bosses like ank rubak who heal with damage like in TOC arent affected by the 50% heal reduction.

our raid finds that this along with tranq shot makes the drake mini boss in RS alot easyer, somtimes it removes it before we even see it go on, and other we just have to tranq

If shiv is being changes to this :

Strikes an enemy's pressure point with your offhand weapon, guaranteeing poison application from that weapon and dispelling an Enrage effect on the target. Slower weapons require more Energy. Neither Shiv nor the poison it applies can be a critical strike. Awards 1 combo point.
20 Energy, 5 yd range, Instant

Seems with the change to Shiv, Blizzard has removed this item from the game and is no longer sold by Vendors.

However, for some reason, Jeeves still appears to sell it, though it's disappeared from my inventory three times not too long after purchasing it.

Edit: I tried to put one on the Auction House. The auction appeared among my auctions, but I'm not sure if others could see it. A day later I received a letter in the mail to try to return it, but the item wasn't there. You can trade the item, but it will similarly disappear from their inventories after a time.

Edit 2: With the onset of Patch 4.0.3a, it appears that Jeeves has finally been fixed and now no longer sells Anesthetic Poison, and will also sell the correct level poisons as well.

Blizzard removed the various versions of each poison type and now only sells a universal poison for each type which scales with the level of the user.

Unfortunately, the anesthetic poison (very useful for the Lich King encounter in Icecrown Citadel) has been removed from the game.

The enrage dispelling effect of anesthetic poison is still available for rogues in the form of Shiv.
