We think "the Exalted" is a really awesome title. With Cataclysm we added a bunch of new reps though, and we want the title to keep pace so that it's always representative of someone that's obtained a considerable number of exalted reputations throughout the life of the game, even as we add more.

We did consider offering multiple titles for the various tiers, but "the Exalted" fits so perfectly and we wanted to avoid a potentially infinite string of titles like "the Fairly Exalted", "the Nigh Exalted", "the Mostly Exalted", etc. We also considered grandfathering in those who had already earned it but think that this title can be a unique testament to the continued efforts of reputation hunters and keep the same value as we introduce more reps and push the requirements up to match.

It's different than every other rep in the way we're raising it with a new bar to meet, and I do apologize that it wasn't communicated clearly beforehand that it was going to be functioning this way.

57 exalted reputation from today for me (just reach exalted with guild)
and same title as one with 40 who get it today on so much easier way then before.
unated nation (55 exalted) is in guild list and I earn it for guild alone.
And with so many changes it show that I get 45 and 50 at same day, and date for 40 is wrong too
....

While checking through my titles today I was very pleased to find that they've returned "The Exalted" to those of us who had 40.

thank-you Blizzard for returning this title. Seemed unfair to take it away from those of us that had it without telling anyone that it would be taken away.

Nice to have it above me again.

I figured since it doesn't look like anyone has posted any recent news on this I'd clear up a few things.

The achievement IS still rewarded at 40 exalted reputations, but the achievement will not say so. Don't believe me, check out the only existing character named Torvalz and dig the 44 exalted reputations and my proudly worn the Exalted title. There is also no reward listed under the 45 exalted reputations achievement for a title either. I also got this title only this week IE a few days ago, meaning that as of 4.06 you can snag this title whether or not the achievement displays it as a reward for doing so. I'd also like to point out Wowhead doesn't acknowledge my title yet since I'm at 44 exalted reps.

Short version: It's still 40 as of now and I am living proof of it.

Confirmed. "the Exalted" as a title for getting 40 exalted reputations, but no acknowledgment or achievement.

Guild reputation does count towards achievement and title.

They may have added factions in Cataclysm, but they removed at least two from Desolace in the process: Gelkis Clan, and the opposing Magram Clan.

once you gain exalted with a faction, do you lose the added exalted status counting towards this achieve?

Eg. Im exalted with bloodsail, if i do lore master and such and i drop back down to revered to i lose the once accounted exalted rep, (go from 36/40 down to 35). Or is it once you hit exalted it counts towards the 40?

It appears that going by the MoP beta at least that "The Beloved" is in place for 60 exalted reps since people have been clammering for a new level. That being said it'll likely be tweaked a dozen times and/or possibly get removed before it makes it to live.

A simple solution would be to make the old Exalted Title a feet of strength. Those who had it, keep the achievement/title, and count towards a new level of exalted such as "The Cataclysmicly Exalted", "The Exalted of Pandaria" etc, etc, etc. This would solve the problem without penalizing those who had obtained it earlier.
