BFD is filled with 22-27 Elites. A group of three should be able to do this easily since most of the mobs are spread apart enough to allow single combat. The manuscript is located in one of the many chests inside the instance and is easily obtained. A solo attempt at around 33 should be feasible.

This is located in a specific chest. The chest is just to your right as you enter the room with turtles. It is under the water in the alcove just to the right on the North end. There are a few single pull naga which must be killed.

You're looking for a grey Pitted Iron Chest (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/object=13949) underwater in the northern leg of the big Pool of Ask'ar cave. It's where Ghamoo-ra the 25 elite turtle sits on the island in the middle. Inside the chest is the Lorgalis Manuscript that you need for the quest.

There is something wrong with the quick info summary here - it is either not sharable or not obtainable at lvl 10. I just tried to share the quest with a lowbie alt I was going to twink through the instance, and it told me that the person was not eligible for this quest - they were lvl 15.

My guess is that the quest is NOT sharable.

It is shareable, i am a level 46 paladin as of now and i had a level 20 share the quest with me.

As a 48 warrior, I took a 60 friend with me thinking I would have to fight.

At 48, you can run around all the mobs, and only need to fight 2 or 3 naga near the chest. Didn't even need the 60s help.

This quest DOES count toward the Loremaster of Kalimdor achievement.

On a side note, this chest does not track using the 'Find Treasure' dwarven racial.

You would not be eligible for this quest if you have the quest "The Powers Below" (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/quest=968) in your quest log. It's an optional prerequisite for this quest. I didn't know this and I was trying to get the quest shared but it said Not Eligible. So, if you want to get this quest shared without travelling a long way to IF to turn it in first, you need to abandon "The Powers Below".

If you haven't figured this out, or read the Manuscript, Bonegrip is talking about the Old Gods when he mentions the "Sleeping Ones". Is that 1 strength and 4 spirit REALLY worth helping loose Yogg'Saron upon the world?

Did as a solo 36. Annoying corpse run. Easy till you get to the chest, but it's surrounded by lvl 22-23 'elites'. not sure what that means, but they seem much harder to kill. :(
First run I got to the chest, but was killed while trying to open it.
Second run when I got to the Turtle Room I went left, circling around while staying A. on the surface thereby not attacked by anything, B. to the walls to avoid the turtles. When I got to the alcove (sorry,forgot to look for coords-but it's got lots of seaweeds) I continued to stay on the surface and against the wall until I was 'behind' the chest. From there I slid down the wall, underwater and waited for the naga to move away. I was able to get to the chest, open it and retrieve the item before the naga got back. I retraced my steps on the way out. I fought no one this run.

At level 34 I was able to slip through most of the mobs to get to this without a group, as I outleveled it. The two naga in front of it will likely aggro, however.

Contrary to what the red text at the top of the page says, you can still get this quest and turn it in, the quest giver and receiver are inside the instance, just past where you zone in.

Ok i finally found the thing and for all the ppl that wantto know heres where it is....ok when you walk into to the room with the turtle boos in it from the door you walk into it at go to your left (the chest is under water) theres a little cave like thing just swim down (its protected by some minor naga) and open the chest and BAM there ya go

It's in the Zoram Strand. Which is the extreme northwest of Ashenvale. On the shore of the ocean. Hope this helps.

When entering the area of The Pool of Ask'ar where Ghamoo-ra is located make an immediate right. On the radar you will notice an outward extention of the pool. This is NOT a cave. The next one over is. Swim to the extention area and you will find a chest down on the bottom guarded by a Naga or 2. Kill them and open the chest to find the Lorgalis Manuscript.

Allright fellas! I've found it. The stairs that lead down are at Kaliomdor 44.35 or Ashenvale 14.14. When u go inside you won't see monsters or anything until u dive and swim to the actual "dungeon".

I went there with a friend and killed everything in our path (he lvl 22 druid. I lvl 31 rogue). eventually we ended up in a room with just murlocs lvl 24 elite if my memory serves me right. At first i thought that was the place, so i went stealth and checked it out. I saw a orb(ish) thing, andh thought that was it. So i go closer, sap the guard, and try to open it. BAM it gives me a so called "Blessing of Blackfathom" that increases intellect by 5, spirit by 5, and frost damage done by 15. It's a nice boost, but not worth killing all the murlocs for.

After experiencing that, i go back a bit (still stealthed) and take another path, that leads me to a big room, with tons of humanoids (mostly warlocs and warriors) all lvl 27 (elite), after i sneak by them all i come to another room with a big statue of some guy. Since i cant break stealth i wont be able to actually finish this q at my lvl. 'cause if i did start fighting i would have about 7 elites total on me... :( I walk around the big statue and the small plate looking things which i believe you should all light. AFTER you have killed everybody in there. there are 4 of those in each corner of the statue. When you light all those i think (THINK) that the big gate behing the statue will open and lead you to a boss. I'm not sure though. I WILL investigate the matter further when i get to a higher lvl :). Good Luck to you all! :)

This a very difficult task for a lvl 21 Druid, there's alot of elites on the area.

Despite the low exp and crappy reward I wanted to do this quest. I had other quests to do in BFD and I needed the Rep darn and Argent Dawn.

Anywho, it's in the big turtle room, but it's underwater next to like 2 or 3 clams and has 3-4 Naga gaurding it.Its towards the outside wall, in an area that doesn't have any side rooms or caverns.

"you can get the ring at lvl 10 because you can get the quest at lvl 10"

I've been running people through BFD to get the gravestone Scepter and Artic Buckler. Before opening a portal to Darnassus to get that quest, I had a level 18 meet me in IF to get the quest. He could not. A level 22 got it. While in the "Turtle room" The Level 18 hit level 19, and we shared the quest with him. I therefore conclude that it is available at level 19, not level 10 as shown. If you are in IF at level 10, check it out yourself and see.

I have read at least 5 accounts of people saying how easy this quest is. Unfortunately, every one of the accounts is incomprehensible! (And that is sad, considering that most WOW gamers is at least somewhat used to improper English!)

Having read thoroughly through the info above prior to going through the quest (a ritual of mine to prepare for each quest), I felt it necessary to actually add a comment after my experience.

Most of the comments indicate that the chest is off to the right in the second "cave."

As a human priest, currently Level 47, from Stormwind on The Forgotten Coast server here is what i learned:

The trail you take to the Blackfathom Deep is further south off of the main path than the plotted location of the site. So, if you're using COSMOS and looking to cross the mountains or swim around, don't bother. Simply stay heading south on the main trail out of Auberdine and as you cross into Ashenvale, look for a small path that will take you west and loop back up north, through the ruins, to the Blackfathom.

The next important thing is to understand that after you navigate through the cave, your quest is actually INSIDE the INSTANCE.

As many quests at such sites are not inside, and some quests inside requiring going back out to acquire necessary items (like the mallet for ZF), then this is a little tidbit to save you the time of searching for locations that you will not find until you get to the instance, which is essentially off the end of the non-instance portion of Blackfathom... as you're heading through, it will be off to your left... basically you'll make a left and another quick left and be facing the instance.

Once you enter the first pool area, you'll need to enter the water, swim straight across to the far side, where you'll be able to climb up on the rocks.

From there, you'll leap across the ruins in order to get to the "cave" passage that is off to your "right" WHEN YOU FIRST ENTER this pool area.

BASED ON MY RUN on 29JAN2008 - I came to the pool with all of the turtles... eventually, having failed to find the chest in the "second" cave or any other further down, I returned to the entry and tried the first area IMMEDIATELY off to the right... off to the right as you enter the pool area and are facing the center island with the turtles.

A number of folks had said this was not correct, etc. and MOST people seemed to find the chest in the "second cave" - so I followed that search approach first.

As I have found that people's interpretation of "cave" and "area" can widely vary... or that the game varies from instance to instance and realm to realm... I searched long and hard thinking I was not in the "second" cave.

I did come across a quest in the "horseshoe" cave... I say horseshoe because on the map it will look like you can go in one side and out the other... hence, a horseshoe shape... call it a "U" if you prefer - but there is a quest for the instance inside.

When I went back to the original entry to the pool and faced the island of turtles, i dove down to my immediate right and there indeed was the pitted chest with the manuscript.

The previous comment that talked about there being a lot of seaweed was an accurate description of this area. The second cave and beyond did not have the amount of colorful seaweed that this did.

There are a few 22+ and 23+ Naga to dispose of, but then you can get the quest.

As I did not gather from the comments on Thottbot that the quest was in the instance, I ended up leaving to turn in that one quest.

Even as a Shadowform 47 priest, I could not quite make it all the way to the center of the end area where i needed to kill the leader of the "cult" - that's from the quest i picked up in the instance at the "horseshoe" cave.

Like most things on here and in WoW, description is everything. Coords are great and everyone should add a UI (User Interface) like COSMOS to help them. Everyone commenting should be as detailed as possible if they're truly wanting to be helpful.

Most of the input is great, but sometimes what you read here is like hearing a distress call over the GENERAL Channel that goes like "Help! Horde here!"

First, if you were in real combat, then you're already dead and so is everyone around you.

Give a location... coords or at least a cardinal direction and distance from the closest universally known point.

For instance, if you're near Refuge Pointe, then save Refuge Point and not just Arathi.

I had someone talking about an FP in Arathi the other day and it threw me off because I know the FPs by their actual name and less by the area. Once you go somewhere to quest and have seen what sector it's in, you call things by what they are... Scarlet Monastery, Marshall's Refuge, etc. because that's what people know immediately.

Also, give some details... number and level of horde...

I've been told that if they're ? that this mean they're 70+ because they're wearing EPIC ARMOR that masks their level - now, other's have said that the ? simply means that you're too low in your level to see their level.

So, give your level and class too.

I hope this has helped anyone who is questing.

Just to confirm the manuscript is in the room with a big turtle boss called Ghamoo-ra in a grey chest under the water (one of the grey areas on the map)

This quest is definelty not solo lvl 23. I was a lvl 23 warrior with a 19 priest and I couldnt even kill one mob(almost but the mob ran and got a lvl 23 elite warrior who kicked my butt. YOu need a large, experienced party at lvl 23 if you want this to be enjoyable. Doesnt help that this is horde infested in PvP.

The chest is located in the north gray area on your mini map. It is a area with colorful corel.

In addition, once you've cleared the instance and the level 22 elites swim across the pool (no diving needed) there's a ramp to the platforms and then it's time to start jumping the gaps. The chest is guarded by 2 level 22 elites.

For the manuscript :
Enter Blackfathom Deeps by swiming underwater, follow the tunnels (full of mobs, you'll need a party for that, we had 3 levels 22iesh and a level 30), in one of the tunnels you'll find a new zone, enter the "portal".
Go straight, kill the few mobs and jump on the plateforms, you'll get to a new room, standing in front of the new room, the chest is in the water, to your right (guarded by mobs).
You dont need to kill the turtle boss if you dont want to but it dropped a very nice armor for me, level 20 def 311 (bound when picked up). The boss was tough, cautious.
On the opposite side of the room is a dead NPC who gives you a quest (didnt write his name down, sorry ).

Northwest corner of Ashenvale map. North of "The Zoram Strand". Go just north of Coords 14,14 then you you cant use coords on the map because it defaults to map of Kalimdor. You will see an open cellar type crypt, go to it and it will tell you that you have discovered the Blackfathom Deep.

Excuse me but what does Shadowfang Deep has to do with Blackfathom deeps and recovering the manuscript ? I've been running around there for hours looking for that manuscript ! Usually, reading the additional notes is enough to complete any quest (depending on how complete they are) - but after one hour not finding that darn thing I had to read on.

Why in the name of the WoW GOD him/her/it self are notes completely off topic from the quest itself included in the "Additional Notes" section ?

Yeah, now I know that I'll have to go to Ashenvale (not Silverpine Forest) ! What was the meaning with deciding that the aforementioned info should be set as "Additional Notes" ? What have I missed with all this ?

Blackfathom Deep is located inside the Zoram Strand, which is the NW corner of Ashenvale. It is full of lvl 20-25 elite nagas and satyrs, some of which are rogues and hide. If you are travelling from Auberdine, head south till you hit ashenvale, then turn west and go to the beach, it is located inside a ruin, the only one you can jump down into water in. Have to go underwater a very short distance to get to the mobs. The instanced zone inside is at the very bottom, and would highly suggest taking a full group of 20+'s with you to get to. Even the crabs in the instanced zone are 20+ elites.

The box is located in the Pool of Ask'ar, no coordinates available in an instanced zone with my mod. Face directly north from the platform with the turtle, go underwater. It's guarded by two Naga. Good Luck.

All is good but if you are coming on the platform with turtels then you will see a kind of ruined wall.
from there go straight north.. its is the gab with no colors
the chest is on thet bottom there

For me it was in the first "dent" to the right after entering the area that has the turtle boss in the middle. Not in a cave, underwater in that first dent with a couple mobs next to it.

There are rumors of an old piece of lore, the Lorgalis Manuscript, at the bottom of Blackfathom Deeps in Ashenvale. That place is the old dwelling of long-dead elves. Elves who held great knowledge before their city fell to ruin.

Search Blackfathom Deeps for the manuscript. Do this, and I will not forget it. Not even after ... the end days.
