Just finished this quest, one of the longest grind quests Ive ever done. It just is.. blarg it sucks. The rewards aren't even that great. The raptors themselves are super tough. They have some move where they heal themselves for about 100-130 or so.

The ones I killed were down south near Boulderfist Hall.Took me about 20 minutes to complete. Just make sure you have Call To Arms in the meantime, so that you can kill some Ogres to await the respawns. About 1 out of each 4 Raptors drops the item.

With call to arms you can get two quests in about 20 minutes, and guile pretty much has 6k xp (like that guy above said), PLUS the xp you get from killing so many mobs.

This quest is very irritating. But very, very worth it. All in all you get about 6k experience just in quest completion alone. You also get Call of the Raptor which is a cool buff. I pulled a greenie Aurora Cloak, not to mention the xp you get from killing the 65 billion raptors and the 45 quadrillion spiders and buzzards that aggro from 15 continents away. The drop rate totally sucks, I had to actually check the log a few times to make sure I was killing the right monsters and also that the quest wasn't bugged or abandoned. Talk about annoying, I got to 11/12 hearts, and I joke you not I had to kill 11 more raptors just to get that last heart. Final numbers are in:

Total monsters it took to complete quest drops: 63 Raptors / 12 hearts

Total time: 45 minutes

Level : Solo 35 Warlock / VW used for aggro

VW's "Taunt" and "Suffering" were huge on this one. Without VW tanking it would have taken forever.

Wasnt too bad about 45 raptors to get the hearts. I did get a bit concerned at the end where I was at 11/12 and I killed about 7 guys before it dropped :)

It seems as if most of these creatures are supernatural beings, seeing as almost all of these can function perfectly without a heart.

A very long quest was it for me. At first I tried to group it with a 32 lvl pala, but the drop rate is just too low. I'd recommend soloing it at any conditions.

I only aggro'd additional mobs twice, and if your cautious enough can get through without issue.

One thing great about this quest is for the skinners, you can basicly gain around 10 skill levels, i went fron 234 to 249 from this quest.

Go to the field west of Boulderfist Hall and east of the main road, around 48,77. Plenty of raptors there. The grind really wasn't bad at all, about on par for any gathering quest with a random drop.

Yeah, I was wondering about all of the aggro too, I was in that area before I got the quest and it was remarkably insane.

Now I have to go back and use most of this for good XP.

Oh and yeah the two people that talk are like 10 feet away from eachother, what's the point of making you the messenger?!

soloed it ez on lvl 33 with my druid just casted regrowth on myself and killed them in cat form i recommend you kill the lvl 37 they drop the most

You'd better pair this with the "Call to arms" quest.
The part where you kill the Boulderfist Brutes and Magus.

Raptors are just outside their cave at 55.74 Saves you some time and will bring you in about 10 -12k XP together (depends on how many mobs you kill in total ofc:>) .

And if you get sick of one mob type you can kill the other:)

Either I'm getting really luck, or the drop rate was bumped up to near 100% in patch 2.3 - I'm getting one on every kill as opposed to when I tried it earlier in the month.

this quest ain't hard at all, sure it will take some time but it drops,very good!
a good idea is to finish the quest "call to arms" https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/quest=678 the boulderfist outpost is really near the raptor location. exact coords are : 53,77
by the way there are 2 raptor locations,the first is really close to the road and has like 3 raptors
and the other spot is west to the boulderfist cave and near the river
coords are between 45,82-50,82
got much more raptors there

Note that the vultures patroling the area (who used to be the worst about Arathi) are now not red, which means they won't attack. So one less thing to worry about, I guess.

Completed this as a 33 hunter. They had a 100% like people are saying, call to arms is nice to have so you can just kill the ogres while your there =] Found it funny tho, that the guile quest was a light red, while the ogres were dark red and the ogres were of lower levels >.>

i just charged the first raptors i saw, and didn't get a single one,after about 12 I decided to go for a different quest and kill raptors on the way.
But when i hit the Highland Flesheaters around 50 , 67 .yup, it was a 100% drop rate.

As previously said, near Blouderfist hall.

Near the ogre cave , you can find some around. Just kill those and the drop rate is rather good, so if you are at the right level, you may be able to finish this one up rather quickly.

there only level 36-39 i did the quest with a level 34 rouge in about 15-17 minutes but make sure to stack up on food and i found them at 52.1 the hearts have a 100% drop rate :)

Cosmos coordinates are 51,70 for Fleshstalkers.

It'd be wise to go there with Call To Arms as well, so that you can take care of both quests at once and get exp faster.

Those of you who said this wasn't worth it didn't pay attention to detail: I got 5990 exp from this quest once it was completed. You take the hearts in (got 2850 exp,) then he tells you to go give an orb to an orc (got 290 exp.) You talk to the orc for a minute then go back to the troll who originally gave you the quest (another 2850 exp.)

Was lvl 35 when I delivered this. Yes, the drop rate is ridiculous, but after all of the kills and delivery I got roughly 30000 exp total.

Actually, the drop rate is higher than 0.8%

What people who whinge about "omfg! low drop rates!1!1" fail to realise is all that thottbot does is collect data that users record while in game. That being said, if Player A runs off and kills 50,000,000 of the raptors that drop the hearts and DOES NOT have the quest, the hearts will never, ever drop. That would be 50,000,000 kills added to the list and greatly decrease the drop %.

Took me about 30 kills to kill these things.

I don't understand what you all mean by "This quest is a waste of time" or "Don't do this quest". Grinding quests are GOOD. You get experience from the mobs, and this quest gives a ton of experience in a small talking chain once you return back to town.

XP after just a couple 100yd runs back and forth, this quest gave me 5990 XP, and if your a skinner, decent amount of thick leather to be had.

on the plus side, although the drop rate is really low outside of boulderfist, was getting about 1 in 10, I picked up a lot of heavy leather for the war effort ;)

Can confirm that the drop rate seemed to improve to around 1 in 4 as I headed south past boulderfist towards the river (47,81).

Mobs themselves were ok for me at 35 Shadow Priest, although due to their fast heal rate it would take a good 2/3 of my mana pool (at Int 160). Bring loads of drink ;)

Do NOT listen to the people who say this quest isn't worth it. You will get around 5000 XP + what you get from killing the raptors. This quest very much worth doing.

True, the drop rate isn't the best in the world, but this quest is easily soloable (35 pally) with no deaths or much resting. Keep at it, the drop rate actually isn't that bad around 47,79ish.

I attempted this quest for about an hour before getting all of the hearts. Towards the end i noticed a pattern: First I would hit with curse of agony, then corruption, then immolate, then searing pain, then shadow bolt and then i use searing pain until the raptor died. I'm not kidding you, this got me a heart every time. Who knows if it was just random, but it worked for me!

So we need to kill Highland Fleshstalkers eh? I went around the area of 46, 80. There are a ton over there. And for some reason the hearts dropped more quickly. (Just pure dumb luck imo). If you run out of raptors to kill over there make your way west to Witherbark Village, slaying all the raptors you find. If for some reason you still dont have enough hearts make your way back to 46, 80. If you still dont have enough, well lol ur SOL...

Btw...all those tricks to get the hearts to drop faster are all lies. Just kill the raptor >.>

I had no problem with this quest.
It was a good grinding zone and I thought it was a better place than the one in James' Leveling guide.
Level 35 Troll Priest, holy spec and I was able to handle 3 of any mob that popped up on me. I may have run out of mana but the XP added up. Maybe it's because beasts don't silence me and Troll have a racial advantage against beasts.

The mobs respawn quickly and you have to be on your toes and I used a lot of Nectar juice and ate a lot of Sagefish Delight.

I don't notice any coorelation between low health and the drop rate. I got one on the first kill. After that it was about 10-20%, just guessing.
I was also looking for silk which the spiders in the area gave.
I would do this quest a dozen times again.

I have done this w/ two ppl and it has been a low drop rate but i like to think of them not as a quest w/ a low drop rate but a quest w/ ALOT of xp :)

I agree with the people who say this quest is a snap. I started it at level 33 (warlock) hit 34 a quarter of the way in, then finished it up all in about two hours. Well worth the effort I say.

After WoW's patch which changed Arathi Highlands to be easier and gave more experience for lower level characters, I found the following (so this is an update to those patch changes in 2007). The characters were a level 37 and 39 and both received the same experience and rep:

All the Highland Fleshstalkers near the bridge (48,76) all dropped the Raptor Hearts. Not one miss on each kill to get a heart.

The experience on the turn-in of hearts was 3700 with 250 Orgrimmar rep.

You receive item: . Turn that in to Gor'mul and get 370 experience with 25 Orgrimmar rep.

Go back to Tor'gan to complete the quest and receive item (increases your agility by 12 for 30 minutes and has 3 charges) and get 3700 experience with 250 Orgrimmar rep.

Ran this for the hearts after most recent patch. drop rate for me was 100%. Last week ran the previous Guile of the Raptor and drop rate was terrible. No idea if this was just a recent fix. Also the locs are right on.

i went 12 for 12 on the RIGHT type of raptors, which are southwest of the ogres, they are the only kind that drop them and they are scattered very scarcely throughout arathi so thats why everyone is complaining, just go between that river and the boulderfist ogre cave and you will get them at least 90% of the time, but i think it is actually a 100% drop for the people who do this quest right

I registered here just so I could say that I had a 100% drop rate for these hearts; seriously! The only "problem" I had was finding 12 Fleshstalkers. I was done in approximately ten minutes.

I dont know about any of you, but I spent about an hour to the north of all the raptors and only got 3 hearts in an hour. BUT when I travelled south before you hit the bridge, every raptor I killed dropped a heart. Finished this in 10 mins after getting the first 3. Rocked?

Honestly the quest item is a waste. But, if you are rested it is a different story. At level 36, I went from ~17k XP to ~47k XP. All rested, about 450XP (225 unrested) - 476XP (238 unrested) per kill. Overall, it is a grinding quest, and go ahead and do it if you are a leatherworker. This is a nice place to start your Thick Leather collection.

I did this quest as a level 37 Rogue and it was relatively straight forward -the drop rate was dreadful though - no more than one in six for the hearts. On the plus side there are lots of beasts to kill and the xp is fine

Because of all the discussion on this site and another site I looked at, I decided to keep track of my xp and # of kills. I did this qst solo as a 35 Druid and I lvled about 2/3 of the way through. I had to kill 29 raptors to get the 12 hearts which comes to a drop rate of about 24%. I was fighting lvl 36-37 mobs and was getting about 225-240 xp per kill which comes out to about 226 xp per kill. The total xp I recieved after turning the qst in was 12,540. So the question is whether or not getting 12,540xp for killing 29 mobs is worth it to, I think it is :). Happy Hunting :)

The Fleshstalkers at 46,78 had a 100% drop rate on those hearts for me as of today (11/27/2007). Done as a 33 shaman. :)

Done with my 37 Hunter and I got %100 drop rate too. The coords are 50,70. I did it with Call to Arms, cause the raptors and the ogres are like, at the same place. It was a very useful quest. You get xp from the kill, you get xp from what's dropped and you get xp from the quest.

Did this with a 36 mage took 1 hour including 3X spider silk farming. Very low drop rate, they are around 47,70.

Hey guys,
I made an account just to confirm one of the below posts. I killed raptors at around 50, 67 for about 30 minutes, with only 2 drops. I moved down south by the bridge at around 46, 77, and I got the other 10 in about 10 minutes. There is DEFINITELY a much higher drop rate near the river.

I did this quest fully rested so I got 200% xp, but the numbers pretty much bear out. I had to kill 44 Raptors to get the hearts, as a lvl 36, but the drop rate was strange. Got 4 hearts in the first 4 kills, then nothing till the last 8. Still averages to 1 out of 4. Total XP's was 26,911, including the 5990 for completing the series. Remember though, that was double xp's but it still equals out to rough 225-240 per kill. Not a bad total, but not sure if its worth the effort for the prize if you are only getting 100% xp. I spend most of the time hanging out north or stormeguarde, near the crossroads. The spawn rate was pretty good, and even better, nobody else was around, so it took about 30 minutes to finish.

all the below info is correct...its just the drop rate is 20 percent for the hearts....i got half a lvl and i completed other quests that were in the are....i only seemed to have a problem if the raptors attacked me first

i also got 1 blue drop and 3 green drops

this quest is .. well not worth doing... you ent up killing rapters (lvl 28 or so) for about a less than 10% drop chance... takes for ever and all you get is an elixer that icreases agility by 12 for 30 minutes... i mean thats cool and all but definatly not a quest i would recomend for the amount of time required...

Lvl 35 Troll rougue. 100% drop rate for me too. Took about 10 minutes if that. Nice quick and easy quest thats well worth doing for the XP. Confirmed co-ordinates as 50,68 or for those of you without co-ords- Between the path to Thandol span (Is that what its called?) and the ogre compound that is close by, its worth picking up the quest from Hammerfall to kill these ogres (4 Magus and 10 Brutes i believe).

Personally I think this quest is totally worth it, as with *MOST* others. Im killing these things @ Lv35 and getting about 240XP average per kill. The drop is kind of rare BUT the XP is AWESOME. Ive gained 10k XP already and I have been at it for .... well I dont remember, but I dont think it was too long hehe.

I just finished this quest, lv 36 holy paladin, took about 20 minutes, drop rate of 54% by the end, better drop rate from lv 37 raptors, best place i found was at the corner where the "river" meats the cliffs of arathi (around 46, 80)

46,80 has a good cluster of raptors. This q is a pain because of the drop rate, but I hate raptors. Almost as much as elves. 36 Mage, solo.

I just finished this quest - it didn't take me over an hour but it did take a good 30 minutes or so (which, for 12 drops, is still annoying IMO). I personally didn't notice a big difference in drop rate between the lvl 36 or 37s, but maybe it was just me. I also stayed in the area right around 48,80 close to the tadpole-shaped lake.
I soloed this with my bear as a lvl 37 hunter.

Honestly, not sure if this quest is going to be worth your time. The raptors are all 36-27 (mostly 37) and have a slight healing ability in the fight. It is probably something similar to drain life. There are wandering adds and buzzards (level 38) and the drop rate is no greater than 20%. All in all, I killed over 40 raptors for this quest.

Playing tbc classic I had a 100% drop rate of the hearts so I assume they buffed it since these comments

Dog&*!@ drop rate, and about 20 other people trying to fight for 15 raptors. Sucks.
