I did this quest solo with my lvl 43 warrior and it was easy. Just go into the Alterac Ruins in Alterac Mountains and you'll find them. Just follow the north road from Tarren mill.

These guys are also Elite's. I tried it with a lvl 39 Warrior and it was hard. They have over 4,000 health so having at least one other person help you is advised at that level. Crushridge Mages are mixed in with the Mauler's. They have 2,720 health.
It's very easy to end up with two or more on top of you if your not careful, the place can get crowded in the middle so watch where your stepping during the fight.

soloed this as a 39 frost mage i just stayed on the outside and picked off the three maulers outside the gate and the first one you c when entering the gate. there is also a mage outside the gate. had no problems with double teams while killing these four

Solo'd this as a 38 Blood Elf Hunter. Easy. They are all elites lvl range 36 to 37.

I soloed as a lvl 38 warlock I didn't die or use pots or bandages. The thing is that you should not aggro the mages, who are almost very near to the maulers. To the 'locks: my tactic was corruption--> curse of agony-->ctrl:1 :) and run away, void catches his attention and I stop and start sending dots repeatedly while void is kiting. Then use shadow bolts as usual when his life is halved. If a mage sees you, just send fear till the mauler dies. After then you can kite the mage as well, you won't need any pots or stg. However, a soulstone is still a vital thing.

Soloed as lvl 39 warrior today. Experimented a bit with sword/shield combo and my trusty twohander, and it turned out fighting them with the twohander was way more efficient. They have lots of health so your limited dps while fighting with shield will let them grind you down anyway. It still works, but fighting them with 2hander let me take down two or three before I had to eat. You might want to do a bit of stancedancing to disarm them, that will keep you fighting a little bit longer.

I just solo'd this with my lvl 37 druid....WAs relatively easy... just prowl ur way in.. pounce on the mauler.. then shred..and dont move AT ALL.. stay in one spot fighting each mauler till he is dead... heal.. prowl. repeat....EASY.. LOL...THE COORDS LISTED 49.49 ARE CORRECT FOR THE PLACE TO START...

Soloed as hunter (BM-specced, too...), it's pretty straight forward "find the correct type of a mob amongst a crowd of them and pounce on 'em!" type of quest. Just lurk in the ruins, avoiding the Ogres and Brutes at the "outer" areas and when you have got past them, find a nice spot where lots of Maulers (I did it in a spot where Ogre Mages accompanied the same area) prowl. I like to do it one by one, pick my spot, put Hunter's Mark and send my pet charging down the enemy. *grin* Then I'll shot in Serpent Sting, start auto-shooting and throw Arcane Shot in when the mob has somewhere around 30-40% of HP left. Then the Mauler should be down and the process is repeated. :-)

The quest is definitely soloable as hunter (even though bringing a friend definitely won't hurt, it might even make it more fun, even though less XP! *grin*), my pet kept the full aggros of my target and even if you happen to pull the aggros for yourself, Intimidation always does the job and kiting these Mauler ogres should be pretty easy. If I happened to pull Ogre Mage throwing Fire Bolts at me, I'd just use Intimidation and send my pet after the mage. Then I just kill the Mauler while it whacks my pet and use Multi-Shot and the mage should die pretty easily in the teeths of your pet while you maul the Mauler down. Anyways, keeping couple of flasks both healing and mana potions with you is always the way to go in case things go wrong and of course there's always Feign Death.

The coordinates are incorrect. The Maulers are located at 44, 48. They are not elite. The only difficult thing about them is their stun ability...which is extremely annoying. You can complete Frostmaw also while you're there. Just make sure to watch out for the mages if you are heading there a little underlevelled.

The Maulers at the coords reported in Alterac are 36+ elites. There are also other ogres at 38+ and 40+ elite that I saw. Come with friends.

Just follow the road north of Tarren Mill and you'll run right into the elites with no opposition beforehand. If you single them out, it is easy pickings.

Soloed as a lvl 41 worlock died once when i pulled 3 in other then that really easy.took 2 on easy with Succumbus.

Wasn't too bad... if it wasn't for the 60 rogue and 47 hunter that were farming them...

I did have to use a cooldown on every battle (evasion, potion, kidney shot + bandage) unless I got lucky with crits and dodging. For the last few I started gouge-lancing them, and never went below 60%

(Gouge-lancing is when you gouge, and run as far as you can, then turn around and gouge them again when they get close and run back. Repeat until you have 5 combo points, then kidney shot and unload on them.)

somebody over here mentioned that u have to go through lots of elites before arriving to the maulers, Thats wrong! when u come to the last turn who goes into the castle, u keep go forward.

here u just meet some mobs at lvl 35-36, keep forward until it turns left.

Now u stand at the other side of the maulers, with a big wall between.

Just go up to ur left and there u find a big opening.

You are now at the maulers=)

Just follow the path north from Tarren Mill. When it says you've discovered the Altec Ruins, you're in the right place. (Duh.) The ones I've seen were lvl 36 or 37 elites. Avoid the lvl 39 Enforcers. I was able to kill them - carefully and one at a time - with a moderately equipped lvl 38 Shaman. I was down to a few percent of mana and health each time, but it's not impossible if you're careful and take your time. Don't aggro more than one. A lvl ? hunter killed me, but then he aggroed two and I returned the favor.

Solo'd easily with a lvl 41 warrior. Tried both defensive and battle stances - both good with decent gear. Don't go for berserker stance though, the damage can be pretty high.

I soloed this as a lvl 34 warlock.. just keep using fear.. I had to use lots of mana pots but I was able to solo even the lvl 38 elites.. dont believe me if you dont want to. I'm on kilrogg, whisper me if you wanna

Ok, so I'l ony a level 38 mage, but if you kill the 2 Crushridge Maulers ( elite 37 ) one at a time and don't mind waiting for the respwan its easy. Don't get me worng, I've got a few goodies ( Combat Healing Potions ) up my sleves, but its not as bad as other people have pointed out.

As for where to go, just head North from Taren Mill and you will find it quite quickly.

i soloed this part at 39 as a rogue. didnt die at all didnt even have to pop coooldowns. the maulers knockdown and are 36 and 37 elite the mages are 37 and 38 and are easily disposed of.

it was pretty hard for me as a lv37 pally. i soloed it, but i had to keep healing, and after each fight, i'd have less then 25% mana and health left (starting with full both)

I soloed this as a lvl 40 mage with about 400 health spare after each fight and barely any mana...be careful!

ok i got a problem with this q. When i kill them it dose not start to count up how many i have slain. AND i'm 100% sure i'm killing right mobs. do i need something or what to get the count? or is it just bug ? tried to restart wow and abonden and get the q again same !@#$. Help plz....

solo'd with a 39 rogue, stealth makes it so much easier to go after just the maulers without drawing anything extra.

I solo this as a lvl 39 mage.

I jumped over the wall at 43.39, right between the mountain and the tower. Might be a bit tricky, but not impossible
There are atleast 4 Mauler's u can pull one at a time from that spot. then just wait for them to respawn

I solo'd this quest as a level 36 Hunter. If you try this, you have to definatly rely on your pet alot, keep him healed and you wont have to feigh death ;) HAVE FUN

Solo'd lvl 39 hunter with 38 pet. it was easy. you have to have lots of mana replenishers and if you do this quest rested, you get like 800 xp per kill and 6s drops. take them one at a time. didnt die once

Was afraid to try solo after reading this thread, but as a lowly 37 Priest I was able to solo this with some patience, didnt touch a single 38 elite mage (those which I would not be able to solo). Just very carefully pulled the level 36-37 elite maulers outside the castle and a few just a bit inside the castle (you can bypass the mage guarding the door). This took about 20 minutes to complete and had to refresh mana after each fight, but not one death.

all u have to do is go north on the path to the entrance of the mountains and all ur maulers are right there...all 10 of them...simple as that

soloed this as lvl 37 warrior.no elites in sight you mage have to take on a couple of mages or keep goin back up the road and wait for them to respawn but works have fun.

Go to Ruins of Alterac (46,46). There you will find them. You only need to kill 10 now, not 14.

killing the crushridge maulers was so easy! soloed it as a 37 mage, no problem. you have to go through the crushridge ogres and brutes first to get to the maulers (and mages) but you just have to kill a few that patrol, and the ones on the side don't aggro if you stick to the pathway. the occasional mage wasn't a big deal either (probably since i'm a mage myself, you just put on frost ward, pyroblast, counterspell, then finish them off). yay!

I don't get it you guys are saying this stuff but there level 36-37 non elites. I soloed with a 36 pally and they must have nerfed it cuz you only have to kill 10 of them.

I am not sure if this quest has been nerfed since the last post but I with a little bit of effort did it with a lvl 34 shaman granted i have almost all blue gear but it didnt seem all that hard if you nuke frost run back and nuke some more.

I wish people would talk about the details of the quest instead of talking about how good they are and how they solo'ed it as a level 12 priest.

I killed two of the marks but couldn't find the last one before getting killed by 6 ogres.

On the very top the 'boss' is a level 40 but I was able to kill him at level 38 with a warlock.

another is on the first floor. I got him in the left hall. Watch out for two ogres in the back room of that hall.

Quest is pretty simple,soloed it with a 34 mage.You can find the maulers north of tarrens mill in the mountains,just follow the road,didnt really have to enter the ruins that much to complete the quest.All maulers are between 35-37 lvl,the sorcerers are 37-40,just watch out fo their ice blast.

I soloed it in about twenty minutes with my 40 mage.

Nice drops and lots of goldthorn around for herbalists.

done this solo as a level 39 warrior took my time as i had to either bandage or eat between each kill. BUT only died once and that was because 3 ally ganked me :@ but thankfully didnt camp my body :)

Just solo'd as 38 preist, no problems, what the mages they have with them, their frost spec'ed and are surprisingly tough for clothies, well to another clothie they are.

I was considering trying it, but hearing that they're lvl 37 elites kind of makes me hesistant since I would be attempting it at lvl 36 as a lock. =/

Solo'd this with my 38 Shammy, make sure to use totems, totems=teh pwnage

and boy i got a buttload of money on this one! i can count more than 5 times where they dropped 8s or more :D

you dont have to fight the mage's if youre a rogue, just pick the maulers carefully.
and make sure theyre maulers, i fought some enforcers by accident because they look exactly the same

Easily soloed as a level 38 Enhancement shaman. With 1h+shield, 38% armor and ~1700 health. The mobs were only hitting me for 50-60 damage each hit. Didn't even have to heal in combat; I'd usually end combat around 40% health.
