Gol'dir is on the top floor of the building that looks like an inn/tavern. Be prepared to deal with at least a half dozen Syndicate mobs, though not at one time. Jailor Borhuin has the key you need, and he usually spawns in the room before you reach Gol'dir. If he's not there, you will need to search the other buildings (except the northernmost building).

The first poster is incorrect, I found the jailor in the house with the clocktower. Its just like the hillsbrad town hall. Theres 3 mages and a thief in the last room who aggro as soon as you attack 1. When you get in the room theres a mage and the jailor left.

I found the jailor in the town hall, but beforehand I had seen him in the inn which leads be to believe the spawn location is random. Once you have the key off the jailor, just talk to Gol'dir on the second floor of the inn and get the follow-up quest to return to Krusk.

Note to druids and rogues;
If you stealth all the way to him you wont be able to hand him over the key,
to fix this leave stealth in the doorway so you get "Find where Gol'dir is being held" complete.

Now what is this - I was there this morning and killed the Jailor, the Baron and every other mob in the entire village. I looted the key from the jailor and searched every room in the inn - and later the other buildings - but Gol'dir was not around...

Hence I couldn't finish the quest and I got killed by respawns when poking around in the ruins with a puzzled expression...

Is there some kind of prerequisite - other than the quest that I obviously have - for Gol'dir to spawn, or did the server just decide to play tricks on me?

Jailor Borhuin is a lvl 37 mob. He has a rather annoying disarm ability that lasts for 7 seconds and he throws a net at you aswell. So put crippling poison on you'r weapons or be ready to use hamstring / int.shout because there are 2 stealthed rogues in the rooms next to him.

Soloed with a lvl 33 holy priest, fairly easy if you take it slowly and watch for the stealthed rogues. Found the jailor in the building directly east of the one Gol'dir is in (looks like a town hall).

A little trick when looking for someone. Write a macro "/target Gol'dir" (in this case) and map it to a key. Then as you walk round you can just continually hit the key until the mob is found. This macro is quickly edited anytime you need to find someone.

Sadly, while a good idea in theory, the /tar macro has far too large a range to be very useful. You can easily target him from too large a distance to narrow down what building the Jailor is in.

Soloed as lvl 34 rogue, if you wanna get through easier, sap each person one at a time until you only have the jailer left, and dont forget to pickpocket everyone while they are sapped for some extra $$

solo'd level 36 Mage. I just frosted him and buddy on the top floor of the inn building and give him blizzard twice. Before he could do anything to me he started to run so I used cone of cold. Pretty simple and nice 3500xp ;)

the /tar jail command helped me out so I knew when he had actually spawned! good luck :D

I did this at 29 with a 30 holy and 30 shadow priest, and it was easy as hell. No one died. The jailor was in a different building than Gol'dir for us though, not in the room before.

Also it's a good idea to get the "WANTED: Baron Vardus" quest as he is located on the bottom left corner (down the stairs) part of the inn.

I found this quest especially difficult to complete with my mage, and others that I know did as well. I wasn't able to do it until level 38 with the mage.

Soloed as a level 31 Enhancement Shammy. Takes time and alot of healing but its possible. I had mana and stoneskin totems down at all times and put a fire totem when i had the spare mana, keeping up water shield aswell for the high mana it gives. Then just normal hitted and waited for windfury to proc, while healing myself when needed.

I have killed Jailor in another building, I had the key but Gol'dir didn't take it. I don't know what's the problem... I'm lvl 37 warlock. Is there any level requirement?

Note that if you're multiboxing or in a party, each character needs to loot key from jailor to proceed. Jailor does drop one for everyone in the group when killed, though :)

You can find Jailor Burhuin in the clock tower in Strahnbrad. It is the northern-most building there.

I have cleared this town out 3times witha warrior friend and we could not find him anywhere. I have the key, I just cannot locate him. I went to coor. 59,43 as stated above and there is nothing there. Its not even inside a building. please help. Thnx.

Just did it, easy easy solo, actually did some blizzard AEing to clear the town out faster after picking off the casters. I had no problems completing it, but i did talk to goldir before killing the jailor, maybe that's important?

If you see a grey question mark and you have the key, just run over the entrance to the room he's held in, I had to shift out of cat form for it to recognize me.

tloc is correct, this approach can work for most classes, it was just easier as hunter: I use tracking to find gol'dir/jailor, jailor was next to gol'dir. ganker was killing me, so I let myself die where I could rez IN THE ROOM with gol'dir, behind the doorframe to avoid being spotted. used range to draw jailor in without pulling the 2nd assassin.

If the jailor runs he does NOT call for help (or didn't for me), so i waited till he came back to finish him off and completed the quest.

This is the first time a ganker actually HELPED me, lmao!

Just solo'd as a 34 sub Rogue. Didn't even need potions, just my poisons. Took me thirty minutes, fifteen of which were spent on a hill outside of town, waiting for the Alliance to leave.
The jailor won't pull anyone when he runs, don't even bother chasing him or trying to slow him down. Just take the opportunity to use a bandage, and finish him off when he returns.
Getting through the inn is easy, just watch your step. It's crowded in there, and if they get the chance to run, they'll find one or two more to come back with.

Anything you can use to slow or root mages makes this a cakewalk.

Warriors, hamstring.
Mages, frost nova.
Hunters, wing clip.
Rogues, stunlock.
Shaman, earthbind totems.
Druids and Priests, use your imagination.
Paladins and warlocks, push your I.W.I.N. buttons.

Solo'd it as a 36 warrior. Took everything one pull at a time, never dropped below 60% health. Two or three of those mages will wipe you though, but if you're careful and PATIENT you'll do fine.

I just did it as a 36 Rogue without too much problem. Had to use a couple pots when I'd end up drawing aggro from two guys at once - but otherwise, most of the time it's easy enough to go 1x1. If you're a rogue, don't forget to vanish if you get in trouble! I found the jailer in the building SOUTHWEST (not SE) of the clocktower, in the room just outside Gol'Dir. I went after the mage in one of the side rooms, who ran and drew both a rogue and the Jailor - barely got through that fight!

First you neeed the key, Kill Jailor Burhuin for the rusted key. He's located in the building just north (next door) to the inn, in the clocktower.

While you're here, there's another quest you can complete in the basement of them inn, the quest is called "WANTED: Baron Vardus".

I soloed this as a 37 Shammy and didn't die. Just be careful and don't pull too many.

Get the key first - from Jailor Burhuin - in a house opposite the inn 62,44.

Then fight your way to Gol'dir who is in the top level of the inn 60,43 to complete the quest.

To get to Strahnbrad, go out of tarren mill. Take the north road. Follow the road till you hit Gallow's Corner, 50,55.

This will lead to a fork, take the west fork. Follow it till you hit Strahnbrad.

Steps: First kill the Jailor Borhuin at 60,43

Second, Talk to Gol'dir 59,43

P.S. Watch out for Syndicate Spy's, they are stealth. Also, if you are on the quest WANTED: Baron Vardus, he will sometimes spawn in a building the the Strahnbrad area

Solo'd as a 33 Combat Rogue. The jailor was in the alternate location as mentioned above, SE building from clock tower. No deaths, used a few health pots, good xp.

I had little trouble with this. Maybe i got lucky. I went up to top floor of Inn and found jailor. There was a wziard in the room who i sapped. Then i went to work on jailor. He ran away just before he died and then i had to tend to wizard. Killed the wizard with out much trouble, then went looking for jailor again. Noticed that Gol'dir was in a room beyond also with a ? above his head. Had to kill a few more villians before i noticed that Jailor had died and was on the floor. I then just took the iron key and went back to wherei saw Goldir in other room and completed quest. This was really much easier than i anticipated after reading all this .

Did it at lvl 35 shaman.
Was a bit careless, and died twice. Trying to fight 3 at a time.
But when I took some time, scouting, and picked out the humans 1 by 1, it was, not easy, but not that hard.

Troubble is the rogues, combined with the ranged spells from the mages, if your not careful enough, you will end up fighting more than 2.
The mobs are around lvl 35, and if your skilled enough, perhaps lucky, you will be fighting them 1 by 1.

Don`t waste a lot of time and potion trying to solo this quest before at least lvl 32-33.

A tip, if u die, take some time scouting the area.

For people who are frustrated, read this. I was frustrated too, and here's my comments.

To the site: You can run directly north from the the Tauren Mill grave. up the hills, pass the camp, and you'll be at the site .

It is better if you can get someone to help you. 2-3 members is more than enough. (lvl 30+) But if you must solo, then here are some guidelines.

Slowly, _pull_ monsters one by one if possible, and pick them out. Some are stealthed, so watch your step. When i say pull, not just aggro. Aggro them, then move BACK to a spot which you already cleared. These buggers are runners, especially the mages, so make sure you make them chase you for a bit.

You'll see a factory/workshop place, and a smaller house across it. I never found anything useful in these houses.

Then, from the left, there's a Two-story house, a "clock tower" house, and a regular looking large one.

Goldir is in the two-story house, be careful pulling mobs when you go in. The Jailor MAY spawn in the second floor.

Some people say the Jailor spawns in the clockwork tower, but it didn't for me, i fought my way in there, it was tough. nothing particularly useful.

Now, the large house on the right. The Jailor may be inside there. As you enter, his spawn is to your left. I think there was only a mage in there.

Kill the Jailor, grab the key, and go up and talk to Goldir.

If you happen to have the Baron quest (if not, see the wanted poster in Tarren Mill.), He's in the basement, same house as Goldir. Kill the stealthed mob at the bottom of the stairs, Lure him out first. If you run up to him, there's gonna be this Arch Mage or whatever shooting your from the corner. Next, kill that Arch Mage. Barron is in the corner, adjacent to where that mage was. If you walk over to where that mage was standing, he'll immediately start attacking you. The barrels will get in your way. Bewarned, if you're not level 40 yet, he may resist most of your attacks.

Solo'd this as a 36 rogue. Very easy... just sapped they guy near the jailor then killed the jailor and got the key. I then stealthed my way upstairs and talked to Gol'dir. No mobs in his room so very easy. :)

i found the jailor inside the inn with one mob. the jailor was 37 to me, and the other syndicate was level 35. (i was a 34 sub. rogue) Sapped the 35 and pulled the jailor out into the hall. had to health pot & gouge/bandage and won. not too hard. would be better with a group if you are 34 and under though.

for my friends he didn't respawn in the inn upstairs he spawned in the house across the little street. he should eb around there chances are there will be horde/alliance around to help/kill u. lol be careful & gl:)

You will most likely find the jailor at the large clockhouse just clear everything in the house till you find him.

If you don't find him there he is at the house at youre right when you leave the clockhouse. ( he is at the top floor )

Ok so I hear this quest is bugged -- WRONG

Quest is quite simple, although with all the adds I do not advise it. You first kill the jailor guy who is in the inn-like building but it doesn't have the little entrance turn thingy. After that you have go into the actual inn model and kill your way to the upstairs back room. You'll see an orc. Run to him, his question mark becomes yellow as soon as you hit the entrance to his room. If the quest is still grey and you have the key rewalk into the room until it changes -- you're probably lagging.

I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but while I (fury warior) was doing this quest, the "syndicate Wizards" would run around every after every attack.

After they cast a fireball, they would run away and aggro more mobs. I tried to shield bash or hamstring them, but they still ran around like mad men.

Before I knew it there were 3/4 mobs on me.

36 mage has no trouble with this, with frost/arcane spec only real time i paniced was when 3 jumped me inside the inn (upstairs) and even then it was a piece of cake with IAE and a flamestrike, easy quest, pity the follow on is a 42 quest :(.

soloed as lvl33 discipline priest, died once, just keep buffs up and health up and manage your pulls. Had to fight two at a time a few times, just keep your shield up. Gol'dir is in two story building on left and jailor is across street

Was a little tricky, but do-able as a lv 34 arms warrior, (orc). Definetely remember to use move impairing effects on those mages, or else you'll be facing down more then one of these guys, which was really tough for me at lv 34. The jailor respawns in different places, just keep looking in the buildings.

As a rogue I solo'd this quest at 34. I definately reccomend using a catseye elixir or two to help navigate through the hidden spies. I helped others do this quest later on, and APPARENTLY the jailor spawns in several different places, which is why I had such an easy time because for me he was in the room right outside of Gol'Dir, with only one other mob near him. But later on helping someone else he was in the town hall surrounded by about 5 others. It would have been extremely difficult to pull that off by myself, if possible at all, making use of sap and using a bunch of potions and flashpowder. Gol'Dir however is always in the same spot, hang to the right on the 2nd floor of the inn-like building facing east.

What a pain in the butt this quest is. The loc of the buildings is: 61,44. The first part is that you need the Iron Key and the Jailer has it. He was level 37 when I found him and I'm not sure if his level fluctuates like a few of the other NPC's in the game. When you are in the general area of the buildings you need to keep an eye open for spies. They're stealthed and are a nuisance. Track Hidden sucks ass but have it up anyhow and make your way into the building get the key. Once you have the key you need to enter the build that looks like an Inn. It gonna be guarded by stealth mobs once you get inside. Kill them then you need to kill all the wizards and more hidden mobs. Make your way to the 2nd floor and kill more of the same. Gol'dir is ball and chained and is in the deepest part of the middle room.

My results:
You gain 2800 experience.
Your reputation with Orgrimmar has increased.

My whole body hurts from how horrible a quest this is. I have difficulty with it at level 41. Absolutely LAME, close quarters sucks big time. Anyone have a suggestion on what traps to use? Freezing Trap doesn't seem to cut it as you get rushed by about 3-4 Spies. Those Syndicate.... -_-

The jailer isnt in the 2 floor house, he's in the townhall. Maybe he is random, but check there if you cant find him.

I actually soloed this at lvl 33 as a rogue. The jailor is hard as hell, and I did die from when he ran away into other mobs that killed me... but I looted the key, stealthed upstairs, and finished the quest without any problems

I soloed this easily at L36 Mage. Cabon's info is incorrect. Goldir is on the second floor of the inn. Jailer is in the two-story house building across from the Smithy.

AREA LOCATION:
Alterac Mountains. Strahnbrad* Village. Almost true North from Tarren Mill.
NOTES:
The village is run by Rogues (levels 34-36) permanently in stealth mode, and Wizards of same levels.
KEY LOCATION:
To free Gol'dir you MUST find a red Key first. It was (2/2 times) in the hands of a human: Jailor Borhuin (level 37). He was (2/2 times) at the dilapidated City Hall in Strahnbrad.
GOLDIR'S LOCATION:
Gol'dir is at the second floor in Strahnbrad's ruined Inn (3/3 times that I found him he was there).
FINAL NOTES:
Gol'dir will give you a quest to be delivered at Tarren Mill.

Did this as a lvl 34 prot pally. had some trouble with the mages (so many of them) but i managed to do it without dying. Hes inthe second story of the two story building to the left. The guard is righ in front of him.

He is in the alliance style inn, there 3 rooms if you cann remember. One on the lft has wizrd, one in the middle has stealthed rogue and the one to the right has Jailor lvl 37 PLUS wizard. Lvl 34 rogue sapped wizard and almost got jailor when it ran bringing other rogue in. They killed me as I killed Jailor, so I came back and looted, killed last wizard and completed quest.

Just expect 3 mobs on 1st floor and 4 on the second one.

You need to talk to Gol'Dir first in order to make the jailer show up. I cleared out the mobs 3 times without finding the jailer, but after I talked to Gol'Dir and searched again in the city hall, he was there.

The jailer is a level 37 in the last room in the city hall (the biggest building in Strahnbrad). There's a mage in front of him though, but I didn't aggro him when I attacked the mage.

Solo'd it as a lvl 35 Belf warlock. I didn't find the mobs too hard, although I did get ambushed a few times.

Found the jailer in city hall with a couple of mobs, he dropped the rusty key. Then found Gol' Dir in the upstairs bedroom of the inn. Two mobs downstairs and two upstairs. My pet pulled most of the aggro, didn't have much of a problem at all.

I soloed this as 33 hunter though it was a bit of a challenge.
I had to use feign death ones and to kill the jailor melee style because of the small rooms in the inn.
But it can be done and the xp is nice :)

tried to solo this as a level 34 rogue. Its my first character so i don't know all the ins and outs of rogue play and i found it really hard when at least 3 would attack at once in the church like building.

God damn this is impossible as a 35 warrior. If you get single pulls you're fine, but the fact the mages run around like idiots even with hamstring on makes this practically impossible.

I'll go back there next level and see what happens.

Warlock tactic (I did this at lvl 33): Summon your Eye of Kilrogg and go into the inn & up the stairs, then select the closest Syndicate member to Gol'dir and immediately end the Eye enchant.

Send in your Voidwalker to attack that Syndicate member up the stairs, he will aggro and drawl attention of every single one on the way up there, simply follow him up the stairs as he takes the punishment, talk to Gol'dir and run out ASAP, if your Voidy is about to die before you can get out of the inn, then Sacrifice him for the Bubble and run.

As for getting the key from the Jailer, somewhat same tactic: Find him and highlight him via Eye of Kilrogg, then send your VW in there to tag him, then pull your VW back a bit to get the Jailor outside (VW Fishing) load him up on DoT's while backing yourself & your VW away from the camp, at this point the rest of the adds will run back to thier posts meanwhile your VW will have so much aggro on the Jailor he will follow you the distance, DoT & Drain/SB til dead.

To get back to Gol'Dir, use the original tactic I mentioned (EoK > Mark closest Syndicate > Sick VW > stay on his heels > free Gol'dir).

Im sure a hunter with a sturdy pet could do the same.

I solo'd the quest at Lvl 37. I used my succubus which helped a great deal. The jailor was in the inn (similar to the one in Brill) on the second floor, inside a room with a syndicate wizard. Gol'dir was in an extension of the room, I just had to walk to the back of the room to find him.

When you enter the inn keep to the right hand wall that way you can avoid alot of NPCs.

if you end up dying somewhere in the center of the building, you can rez at the corner where he is located and then you can just kill the jailor and get the quest... i am also realizing that sometimes if you do not chase the ones who run/disappear they do not aggro more...

Easily solo'd as a Lvl 36 Blood Elf Retribution Paladin, Lucky for me the building that he was in was cleared thanks to a Unknown lvl Tauren Hunter, Once i found him i got the key from The Jailer guy and the warlock guy, God killed once but did it again and took them both easily, I stunned the Warlock and used Judgement of Justice afew times so he wouldnt run away, Used Concectration to bring him down faster aswell as the Jailer, Moved onto the Jailer easily done, used Judgement once just in case, All in all an easy quest :D

Fairly challenging for a 34 hunter, even for hunter hard to single-pull, ended up feigning a LOT.

Jailor has multiple spawn locations, including right outside room gol'dir is being held in on second floor of inn, usually he's at the town hall though.

hardest pulls are probly the town hall and the upstairs of inn.

Jailor was in the Town Hall in the back. Was able to LOS pull each of the wizards 1 at a time. Hit them with Hamstring before anything else. They run constantly, but hamstring keeps em close enough to kill. Kill em fast. Gol'dir was in the alliance style inn, this was no problem. Same thing, LOS pull the guys downstairs, hamstring, kill fast. Only had to kill one guy upstairs, didn't agro the others, but they are singles if you want to kill em just in case.

I did this as a lvl 33 druid...its easy...just use FFF (faerie fire feral) to pull one mob at a time...if you arent use to pulling using FFF then start NOW.

Inside the building was no problem either...just pull one at a time...and when the mobs are close together pull the one closest to you and RUN....the mob you pulled will be the only one that comes and you can solo him with ease....heal (if needed) and restealth AFTER EVERY BATTLE

i had 1.3k health around +40 stam i suggest you do the same...and my agi is +55 i can crit those mobs for 600 easy....use your ravage before every battle in case you get an add or two

overall it was easy it just took time...

xp is amazing and a plus for this quest you get 2.8k when you free the guy.

type in /tar jailor and walk towards a building. if your target goes away(without someone attacking you) then the jailor is not in that building. Gol'dir is in the building that looks like the tarren mill inn.

Found the Jailer AND Gol'dir in the Inn. The Jailer was on the 2nd floor near the landing, Gol'Dir was in one of the bedrooms.

We found the jailor in the North building, facing south (looks like an inn), and Goldir, in the west building, facing east, on the top level.

The inn where Gol'dir is held is at cords 61, 43. You have to get to the second floor. And in a house at 62, 44 was the house where the Jailor spawns.

Bear in mind that Gol'dir is on the upper floor of the ALLIANCE style inn, the same style as the ones in Lakeshire & Goldshire. At first I went into the Horde style inn (Tarren Mill style), the one with the low ceiling and the stairwell on your left. Fought all the way upstairs only to find he wasn't in there, but in the building opposite. The jailer was at the end of the long room in the town hall as previously stated.

Managed this as a 34 hunter without too much difficulty. Sent my pet in to manage the aggro while I stood off and used my bow. Only died once, that was when my pet got polymorphed, and all the aggro turned to me. The only mobs to seriously watch out for are the Argus Shadow Mages, they fire quite hard-hitting shadow bolts, then once they reach low health they morph into a large armoured skeleton that hits for hard melee damage.

All right, so I read through most of the feedback left by other plays and none of it is very specific and or wrong about the location of the jailor and Gol'dir. First off, the Jailor isn't in a friggin' inn. He's in the town hall building, Gol'dir is in the top floor of the inn, the back room.

Mosstruo has it exactly right. With his mistype correct - Stranhbrad not Stratholm - that's the best directions I've found for any quest on this site thus far.

I agree, this quest is terribly difficult for most classes to solo even at much higher levels than the quest is listed... I'd find a partner if you want to finish the quest.

Pretty easy. I only died once. The Eye of Kilrog does the trick. The only problem I ran into was there was only stealthed mobs upstairs in the inn. I wasn't able to target them and have my void train the mobs upstairs. This was the reason I died the first time. The second time I just feared him, turned in the quest, sac'd my void, and ran like hell.

Was good! I like this quest... very interesting!
I got the key from the human lvl 37 and used vanish to escape from the other 2 with him.
So using the Distract, went to the orc in the second floor in the "human Inn"...
Very good. one of the bests quests of the game.

Completed this as lvl 32 hunter. Took care of the mobs out front and then moved and had pet tank while I stood off and used the bow.

Jailor is a random spawn for the buildings, though it seems like its always in multi-room places. The undead style inn, the town hall, or the building with Gol'dir himself have been locations I've now seen.

This is definitely not the whiney cry-fest that several would have you believe. I definitely appreciate the word of caution but this was a fun quest. I took it slow and played tight (not backing up into areas I hadn't cleared) and it was very straightforward. Never had more than 2 on me at once.

Note, the respawns are fast so get to your targets and get out. The Jailor was on the right and Gol'dir on the second floor of the Inn on the left as indicated earlier.

I just did this quest with a lvl38 shadow/discipline priest. It's no problem with the directions you get from here. :)

had to run once when aggroed by two mobs. Pull the mages, run around a corner, use hammer of justice and they go down quick.
The Jailor is a different story at 27 5 levels above you. Was a long fight. Didn't have to bubble but used arcane torrent and all buffs available...

Found Jailor Burhuin in the same room as Gol'dir. 2nd floor of the inn.

It spawned for me at the Inn, in the same room where Gol'dir is, after killing an army of rogues and mages.

But, this almost made me quit... After getting finally getting to fight him, right before I killed him, he escaped right through the wall and died at the top ledge (Unreachable from the top or bottom - See picture).

After that, I had to restart the killing and of course, he spawned somewhere else and three mages jumped out of nowhere and killed me.

There were three level 36 wizards in the Town Hall's main room grouped tightly together. Of course you can't pull casters. Game over.

The main problem with this is, finding the jailor.
When I did it, a paladin was fighting him in the building to the right, opposite the inn-like building.
After an age the pally killed the guy and he then took a long time to respawn, and of course, there was no way of knowing where he would be.
As it turned out he respawned where he was previously, in the meantime I had been keeping the three places that I knew he spawned, clear.
Once he appeared it was just a case of dealing with him, getting back to Goldir and job done.
It would have been tricky at lower level though, due to the numbers of mobs present in the buildings.

I had the key, but Gol'dir wouldn't talk to me. As a rogue, I had stealthed into Gol'dir's room and as a result, I hadn't satisfied the part of the quest that required me to 'discover' where he was being held. I stealthed out of the room, killed the stealthed mob in the outer room and then unstealthed came back into Gol'dir's room. It looks like you need to be unstealthed when crossing the threshold into his room to satisfy the quest.

From what I can tell of the documents you procured, Gol'dir is being held in a large Syndicate base to the north, most likely in the Alterac Mountains. He has been held captive far too long and must be freed.
