For those that are not aware, if you do all 3 of the OOX quests from the random "eggs" dropped in Feralas, Tanaris, and the Hinterlands, this quest will open up after turning in the last one.

There is nothing to do really, just click the NPC, take the quest, and earn your mechanical chicken!

I highly recommend this quest for everyone who is interested in gaining a lot of XP for pretty much nothing. The actual escort quests are quite a fun and a nice challenge. I've had a lot of fun earning my metal chicken and I'm sure you will too :D

Note that the reward is not bind on pickup, so you can try selling it on the auction house since this pet isn't that common.

If you do the three escort quests at a level where you definitely need a good group to get through them, they also provide a couple of pieces of decent gear.

I think I did this and destroyed the pet. The stable master is not giving it back to me though. I wonder if I can redo these quests or if its just lost forever. Anyone know.?

I contacted a GM as well and he told me which ones I had and hadn't done for this so give it a shot!

@ krisscampbell: You may have gotten the egg but failed the escort. You can go back to the chicken and start it again but the egg would no longer drop. This may be why it showed as not being completed to the GM.

I asked a GM which quest i had done. He told me the one in Tanaris. So i did the other ones, and handed them in...but can't the get the follow up quest. Going to go and try and get the beacon in Tanaris. First i'll try going to the chicken and seeing if i've already turned in the beacon.

Edit: So even though the GM said i had done it...he just meant turn in the beacon. So be careful and check yourself =)

Chicken looks awesome after you do the three OOX quests located in Feralas, Hinterlands, and Tanaris. Note though that it can be a long grind for the eggs to drop in each area as it took me about 30 minutes to get the last egg in Feralas on my level 80.;)

Also, recommended to do in a group with those who also have the egg as this can be difficult to solo depending on your level.;) Make sure though that you both turned in the first part where you find the chicken before starting the escort. This way when you start it you both will get this quest done.:)

I just completed the third OOX escort quest and Oglethorpe didn't offer me this quest. I opened a ticket and a GM confirmed that I'd done all three escorts. He then found that it was a "known issue", identified recently, that players completing the three escorts aren't being offered the final quest. A fix is expected Soon.

I have done 2 of the 3 egg quests still trying to find the egg in FE. But i have read in other web pages that you can not get the pet chicken if you go over 50 to complete the quest, is this true? I'm lvl 47 now and am wondering if i should just grind to find the egg in FE.

Certain mods such as "EveryQuest" (useful for doing Loremaster) can also show you whether or not you have completed these quests. The mods basically do the exact same thing as the macro scripts above and query the server about all of your quests completed.

What if you found the beacon but didn't complete the quest.. and probably destroyed the quest item a million years ago.. am I going to be able to locate the quest item again?

As of The Shattering, the Ferelas quest has changed. If you have done the quest before, you will have to do it again in order to get An OOX of Your Own, per a GM that I petitioned. Before Cata, I had done Feralas and Tanaris already. After The Shattering, I finished the last one (Hinterlands), but I did not get my OOX. Upon petitioning a GM, this was the response I got:

I wanted to let you know that I have looked into this issue for you. It appears that, while you have completed the Feralas version of the quest, it has since been updated, and no longer counts as a pre-requistie for An OOX of Your Own. In order to get your OOX, you will need to find the OOX-22/FE in Feralas again!"

So it looks like the Tanaris one did not change, the Feralas one changed/reset, and I don't know about Hinterlands one (since I only did it afterwards).

This pet can be a gold mine.
I just sold mine for 5000 golds on AH, and i'm planning to get farm another one with my main char... still undecided if i shall sell it again or keep it :D

Still, collectors pay MAD prices for it, and usually there are none on AH, at least on my server.

After pretty extensive Hinterlands and Tanaris/Zul'Farrak farming, it's safe to say that if you did all of these escorts pre-Cata, the only one you can redo in Cata is Feralas.

I'm confused. I put in the macros and it said I was missing the Ferelas beacon so I did it, handed in the quest at Booty Bay, but I don't get the quest 'An OOX of Your Own'. The macro shows that it's all been done. What gives?

I just complete my last quest "Rescue OOX-17/TN!" /Find part was done pre-Cata/. When land it npc offer me quest to accept for my Mechanical Chicken, but got "You don't meet requirements for this quest". And when talk with him again, just offer me to "Complete" quest and get the companion. I do in cata: Find/Rescue OOX-22/FE! and "Rescue OOX-17/TN!". Other quests, a long time ago in TBC time. And one tip to confirm, if have done find part, no need to farm quest item, just go and rescue :]

even GM's told that this will be fixed on patch 4.2 it is still not fixed yet... still cant complete the final quest and cant get the pet reward... /shame

FINALY got my pet ... after i type a hatefull post to GM's via help request.. when i wasnt online they place the pet in my inventory and added the REPUTATION to linked faction. also they type a apologize letter visa versa...

When I run the handy little scripts from other posts it says I'm done with all the find/rescue bits. I literally am only missing this final part of the set, 3721/An OOX of Your Own. I don't know if it's discounting the two I completed prior to Cata or what, but I hope this chain gets fixed soon.

typing it again, if you have diffuculties to have obtain the quest or QUESTS just make a ticket to a GM and they will add to ur quest list or tell u which quest is missing for ur progress, if u still cant complete the final qeust make an another ticket, after some painfull hours just waiting for a silly pet... one way or another u will get ur reward.

For those of you having trouble getting this quest to show up, make sure you try going back and killing the yetis in Feralas. Even if you think you're bugged and can't get the final quest, like I did, you might get lucky.

I can confirm, that Find OOX-22/FE! is "This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed."
Spend hours farming item in Feralas. Script told me that i have NOT found it. But when I came to handle in Find OOX-09/HL! Oglethorpe Obnoticus gave me An OOX of Your Own!

One thing to note with this, these escorts quests have been massively shortened from their original lengths.

Anyone who has done any of these prior to Lich will know.

Example: The Feralas escort end as soon as you get to the road. You only get 1-2 spawn rounds and if you clear the area from the cave to the road, you can complete this in roughly 3 minutes when 65 or higher.

Also, for the Hinterlands beacon, I finally got it from a troll in Jintha'Alor, after about 4 hours of farming just about every creature in the zone. I farmed the turtles for a very long time =(, very frustrating.

Here's a kicker for you....if you do a race change (I went from Blood Elf to Goblin) ... you must do the quests over again. I ran the macros mentioned in this thread and they reported that I had completed the quests, but the Questgiver for 'An OOX of your own' would not give me the quest, so I opened a ticket. The GM indicated it showed yes, I had completed the quests, but due to the race change, it caused issues. He said this happens quite a lot. I wish he had just granted me the new quest, but he indicated I had to go back and do them again. So...I'm off to do that.

I hope this helps someone else with this type of trouble.

Want a chicken for vanity or big profits? You need to start by grabbing each of these:

OOX-09/HL Distress Beacon from The Hinterlands (Personal stats: Killed some stalkers, some trolls, some owlbeasts (about 20 all told)... Then killed my first ooze at Skulk Rock, and it dropped)
OOX-17/TN Distress Beacon from Tanaris (Personal stats: Went into Zul'Farrak like all other posters recommend, killed some twenty or thirty trolls and scarabs, and it dropped from one of the troll corpses)
OOX-22/FE Distress Beacon from Feralas (Personal stats: As recommended by many other posters, Feral Scar Yetis - dropped on my first kill)

Only available if you have not already completed the quest.
Yes these still drop in Mists of Pandaria.
Yes it can drop off ANY mob in the respective zone, however OOX-22/FE Distress Beacon has the highest drop rate from Feral Scar Yeti IF you haven't already done the quest.
It WILL eventually drop - some days RNG is your best friend, other days you want to repeatedly punch a kitten (or other obscenely fluffy creature) just to illustrate how cruel the universe can be.
The command to check if you have completed ANY of the distress beacon quests is here (special thanks to MrsSushi for locating the updated version which is still working as of patch 5.3):

For some reason when I first turned in the Feralas & Hinterlands quest I couldn't accept the chicken (said I didn't meet the requirement). .

I just talked to him again and was able to accept the quest.

Okay so, I had to petition a GM about my 'OOX of Your Own' quest, as it didn't show up and I actually went back to try and see if I was missing any of the quests--I wasn't. They couldn't help me, they just said that Blizzard can't provide any game hints, and directed me here. ;) VERY helpful.

I just finished the Feralas quest yesterday, and the script says that I had already completed the Tanaris (I actually remember doing that one, way back when) and Hinterlands one. My question is, can a realm change (not faction change) and then appearance change have anything to do with it? I actually spent a good hour farming for the beacon quest in the Hinterlands yesterday, as a level 84, thinking maybe it did--after reading one of the previous comments--but it didn't drop. And I had the trolls insta-spawning, so I was killing a LOT of mobs. I know it sometimes takes days, so, do I just need to go back and try some more?

If anyone has an answer, please let me know. ^^

If you have completed this quest before Cata you will not be able to complete it again, Although you are able to complete the quests that lead up to this reward.

Can someone tell me if there is anything special I need to do to prompt Oglethorpe to give me this quest?

I have completed all three of the homing beacon quests and turned them in to him... He has no other quest to offer. I have talked to multiple gms about this and first they said it was probably my ui, then they said it was a known issue with the quest and just recently I was told there is nothing wrong with the quest. It is my understanding that all I had to do was turn in the three homing beacon quests and he would give me the quest for the mechanical chicken, is this correct?

i dont know were all the beacons are but i did find one in the Hinter lands. it was sitting on a rock in the middle of a lake.
you have to escort it to a safe spot.

I am having the same problem discussed earlier in the comments. I have completed all three of the chicken escorts. Some had been awhile so I took a friend who had not done it before and once the beacon dropped for him I would check the loot and they didn't show for me, basically telling me that I have completed the quests. I also checked my bank and inventory multiple times, clear. I go to Oglethorpe and "A OOX of Your Own" is not offered to me. This is extremely frustrating and I just finished writing a ticket, hopefully Blizzard has something constructive to say in regards to this problem.

1 is in Feralas when you go into a cave to kill a naga, the beacon drops from the nagas
2 is when you kill Jade Ooze in the Hinterlands
3 is in The lair in Tanaris where you kill all those bugs.
turin in 3 quests in Booty bay and u will get that quest which does not let u 2 do anything and gives u about 10000 exp plus a robo chick pet
very big boost in exp and chicken is cute :D

There's usually a OOX thread in there somewhere, but after so many posts it gets locked so just start a new one. (try searching OOX and mechanical chicken)

It may take a few days, but the Blues will tell you what you need to do.

Hey people, I've a question about getting this quest. I never done this quest while I was horde, but was eligible to take the quest from the gnomish engeneering guy. About 4 months ago have I done faction Change, so now am I alliance, but from the date I changed from horde to alliance, can't I take the quest anymore because I've to do all get over again when I've done faction change. So I've finnished 2 of the 3 quest succesfully, but whenever I took the third quest I get the message: You don't meet the requirements for that quest. That's because this quest will let me get goblin engeneering (and I'd have already gnomish). Now I even tried to take the quest again, but the quest is just gone( I can't take it anymore, there does not shown even a quest mark '!' anymore). That means that I'm not eligible (because of this bug) to complete this quest 'An OOX of Your Own'. I don't like to pay about 2300g for the chicken on the AH too.
So my acctually question is: Does might anymore knows how I can still get this quest and complete it so I can get my Mechanical Chicken.

I did the ones in the hinterlands and in tanaris, but I never got the beacon to drop in Feralas. It might be worth farming for if this chicken is good for anything.

The 3 quests leading to this where pretty fun actually, done them all on the same night, got help for 2 and aggroded everyone on my mount for the last one. The XP for doing all 3 and then the final 1 was great, but the rewards where a bit crap for a lvl 52 mage, and the chicken, well I am selling that as I got a real chicken from that special quest in Westfall.

I did this "quest" at Level 50, got 10200 XP and 500 Rep with Booty Bay and -500 Rep with Bloodsail.

The guy who gives the quest, Oglethorpe, has the chat bubble icon instead of the quest icon. I couldn't get a single quest from him. I'm level 80 and I have earned Honored with Booty Bay but I wasn't sure if reputation had anything to do with it. Comments? Thanks. -Bethany, Stonemaul.

This quest matters a little bit more now for the new achievements. At 50 pets you get a skunk pet. So this is kind of fun, and doing this series is helpful for that.

To sum it up...
1. Hinterlands- highest drop rate for beacon is Tcha'kaz the spider. The chicken is on a hill in the lake to the north.
2. Feralas- Highest drop rate for beacon is on Snarler. or you can try the bugs around feralas as well.
3. Tanaris- Highest drop rate is on scarabs in ZF. Chicken is on eastern mountain range.

If you are a high level going back to just get the pet and are having trouble getting the beacons to drop...remember to check oglethorpe in booty bay to make sure you havent already completed them. Also check the chickens too, you might have turned in the beacon but never completed the escort.

I'm worried that I completed the quests, got the chicken then deleted him :/. I vaguely remember doing these but not hinterlands...so heres hoping im still eligible and not wasting my time! :P

I know I have completed at lease one of these preliminary quests, but don't know which ones I have yet to do. Is there anyway to determine this? Like an add on mod that will tell me if a particular quest has been completed? Or will a GM tell me if I ask them? The gnome in BB is not very helpful in advising me of this.

Got my chicken at lvl 56 finally. I don't think you can solo this any lower. You will sometimes have to fight up to 3 mobs at once, the hardest was to unaggro them from the chicken.
How much does it sell on AH? I need money but if it sells for crap I won't sell it.

I did the quest at lvl 45 troll hunter, I would attack from far to bring the mobs to me then used Feign death to cause the mobs to attack pet. Easy quest just need to be tactical.

At lvl 53, I got 7100 exp, 500 BB rep, and the chicken, which you can vendor for 10S if you like, or if you didn't use and bind it to you, you could try the AH.

I soloed the 3 robochicken quests between levels 50 and 53 as a fury warrior, having stumbled across the quests after the homing beacons were dropped. At the end of all 3 you'll have the option to get an OOX of your own. The quest criteria when accepted is nothing more than to complete the quest by accepting the robochicken. It's a quest you can accept and finish in a couple of clicks and you get 10200 XP for it! Not to be missed.

You've recovered three of my OOX homing robots! You've gone above and beyond what you needed to, so I will give you something special for all your help. It is a miniature version of the very same robot that you have come to know and love, the OOX!

I normally wouldn't let anyone have such a potentially lethal device, but you've been a real help. Besides - the combat mechanisms and the homing logic on this one have been disabled.

Other than that, it's an OOX by golly!
