These are bowls of corn in the huts all around TB. Some of them are hidden from the entrance of the hut so you have to go into the hut which dismounts you.

For the animation, I expected the toon to do something similar to one of the professions (LW, etc) where they move their hands about. Maybe pretend to use a mortar and pestle. But no no - your toon makes it look like they're not so much mashing the corn as beating it into submission with a large club. :-P

Simply start walking into the smaller huts/shops all over Thunder Bluff and click the bowls of sparkling corn mash and watch the ensuing "hammering of the corn" animation. Virtually every shop has these in them,and I suspect all the small shops do and the ones I entered that didn't have a bowl were most likely just 'hammered' by another toon.

Most of us have a cultural blind spot that insists that everyone else's customs should be similar to our own. In much of the world, Africa, South America, large swaths of Asia and elsewhere, grain is ground much as our own ancestors did in prehistory. Individuals or small groups come to a dished stone and pound grain with a stone or log raised and dropped or operated somewhat like a hammer. The animation isn't inappropriate even though it fails to meet one's preconceptions. What is a bit odd is that Taurens should still be pounding grain when they have wind operated mills. Perhaps the millers of Thunder Bluff don't do their job well or charge so much for the service that many residents can't afford stone ground flour and meal. Alternatively, perhaps it's a sort of do-it-yourself cum loca-vore revival of traditional ways. In any case, there's nothing objectionable in the animation.

Or, perhaps with so many of the wind driven corn mills under attack by meal worms, terrorists, and termites and Earth Mother knows what else, they had to do this task by hand.

For as quick as I found this quest to be it is really nice that it awards 2 Cooking awards. I hadn't noticed until today (my first time doing this quest) that there were even dailies that would give you that 1 bonus award. A nice addition to the more annoying dailies for cooking, such as roach coach. Not that I'm complaining but makes one wonder why this quest and not one of the others.

[One of Thunder Bluff's most important staples is cornmeal; bowls of corn may be found in nearly every home.

With so many of the local mills under constant attack by harpies, gnolls, reckless mining companies and Earth Mother knows what else, I often ask my students to help with the task of grinding corn into cornmeal.
