There will be a beer barrel outside the inn at Kharanos. When the barrel is activated you will receive a backpack that will boost your run speed and a three minute timer will begin. Upon activating the barrel you will immediately be propelled forward(I was dismounted) so be sure to aim yourself toward Ironforge first. Deliver the ale back to the quest giver before the time expires. A Brewfest hat was also applied to my character's head for the duration of the timed segment.

Assuming you don't wander too far off the path, you'll have thirty seconds or so left on your timer when you get back to Daryl Riknussun. I imagine the fastest path is through the right entrance into the Ironforge Commons, then the right-side tunnel, and cutting around right side of the Great Forge back to the Bronze Kettle.

Any type of speed increase that does not require you to shapeshift can be used without removing the buff (Blink, Sprint, Nitro Boost, ...) Shapeshifting or attacking anything will remove the buff and require you to go back to Kharanos and pick up the barrel again.

Unfortunately, this quest sets you up for failure the first time. It leaves a multitude of details out of the quest text:

First and foremost, this is a timed quest. If you do not complete this quest in under three minutes you have to go back to Kharanos. The timer in this case is the time left on the buff from interacting with the quest object.

Second, the "brewery" in Kharanos is the Inn, the Thunderbrew Distillery.

Now you must run. Upon interacting with the cask outside the Inn, you are given a temporary buff. This buff has just enough time for you to run back to the quest giver. You cannot fly, you cannot cast, you cannot hearth. The running animation is forced. You have no choice but to hoof it.

Finally, on first ~~read~~ skim, the quest objectives can be confusing due to order. You must first acquire the cask in Kharanos and then deliver the cask to the quest giver.

I found this quest to be extremely irritating and it took me 4 times to complete it. If the timer runs out and you have not completed the quest, you do not have to re-aquire, just go back and get another cask. I can just about guarantee you that you will fail the first time because the time allowed is EXTREMELY tight.

Don't get me wrong-the basics of the quest are simple-go to Kharanos, aquire a cask, and run it back to the questgiver in the time allowed. Sounds easy enough. I wish!

First of all let me emphasize one thing that was mentioned previously-when you aquire the cask (which appears on your back) you MUST be facing the street with no obstructions in your way. Once you acquire the cask you take off automatically. Bumping into something and wasting time turning around will likely cost you the quest.

Second, because you cannot control the speed at which you are running, you must know in advance where to turn to get the most direct route. After you fail the first time, check out the route and make sure you have the shortest one firmly implanted in your mind.

Lastly, do not be looking for the golden question mark-it will not appear until you give the cask to the questgiver, which is automatic when you finally get there. And the last few steps to do this are a real pain.

This is because at the speed you are running, it is EXTREMELY difficult to make the last turn into the room where the questgiver is. BE SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE A SPEED BUFF ON WHEN YOU TRY TO ENTER THIS ROOM-YOU WILL NEVER MAKE IT. You have to hit the door at exactly the right angle and this may take some practice.

Well I got 5050 XP for this (at lvl 43) and the usual cooking daily rewards. I guess it was worth it but I came very close to writing a ticket. I really think Blizzard needs to add a few seconds on this one. A visible timer showing how much time you have would also be nice.

I'm guessing that darthveda and Dractulamede are mostly Horde players and not that familiar with Ironforge; I found the quest easy, if annoying to be forced to run back. (If this quest was applied to Undercity, I would be complaining too.)

My first buff, I was taken by surprise and wanted to see if I could mount instead, but no dice. I tried this right before I actually ran out of town. If you are going to experiment with the buff, do it RIGHT AFTER you get it and in town, NOT right before you get back to the quest giver! I would think that ought to be obvious...

It took me 3 times to finally get it. I kept getting stuck past the door in that dang corner. On my last attempt I pressed the number pad / and it changed my running into a walk. I hope it works for those who try it.

I got it the first time, and i ran into 3 walls. Just follow the road to the road that heads to IF then go up that and go over the bridge after the gate, then go through the tunnel and then take a right and its the last building. You just gotta know what your doing. Use your mouse, not your keyboard, it works the best using your mouse.

Count me as one who dutifully ran all the way back to Ironforge, only to find out that there was no cask. Did someone steal it? I certainly made it there well within the time allotted. Oh, the quest was bugged? What was that? The quest is still bugged? How lovely for all of us who don't really have a lot of time left.

Putting aside the exigencies of pancreatic cancer, which shortens your time faster than a noose, why have these kinds of quests that waste your time this way? Time is the only thing in the world that money cannot buy. OK, maybe true love. But other than that, time is the most valuable thing in the world because it is above pricing. You can't put a price on it.

So don't worry about my time; that's my lot. But please don't waste anybody else's time, because all time is valuable beyond measure.

Just found out an easy way to do this if you are a mage. I'm Alliance, so I dropped the portal to Ironforge a few feet in front of the barrel. And when I picked up the barrel, I clicked on the portal and was able to keep the barrel on my back and run to the cook to turn it in. Saves so much time. :)

The buff given does NOT stack with Sprint, Dash, Nifty Stopwatch, Swiftness Potion, or Inner Will.

Mages can blink while running (although the IF portal pre-cast before grabbing keg helps far more)

Warriors may use Heroic Leap while running.

Warlocks can summon a Demonic Circle by the quest giver before leaving to get the Keg, and then teleport right through the wall to the NPC once they are back in IF and close enough. This negates the problem of running/walking up the stairs and saves a few seconds

I am having problems with this quest. Every time that I click on the cask my character starts running wild before I can click on the quest item, but the quest tracker says that I have the cask and return to ironforge when in fact I do not have it. Any suggestions?

The cask isn't targetable for me. I hover over it but nothing happens. Anyone else having this problem?

Ok for those who have irritatingly waited 50+ days for the quest to finally pop up fear not, it WILL eventually come up ....

Day 54 here in Azeroth and finally my chef prepares the "I need to cask a favor" quest
Good Grief.

Ok so as everyone should know by now - this is a timed quest.
Any shapeshifting etc.etcc will cancel the buff.
One special consideration - You start moving as SOON as you pick up the barrel which is outside Kharanos located at which means u cant stop to cast a portal, hearth, pick flowers, pick your nose, etc..etc.. whatever

MAGES: pop a portal to IF before you pick up the barrel, pick up cask, run out a tad, u turn clicky portal as you near it, run to the kettle blinking as you go - you're done. 45 seconds flat.

Everyone else that CANT pop a IF portal or know any magey friends to help u:
After u pick up cask, Stick to the road make a B-line for the front door of IF in the straightest line possible, use the right side passage, zig zag across the right side bridge and head for the rightmost tunnel connecting to the central forge room. Head to the kettle you are there. Beware of navigating corners as you cannot stop or slow down.

Some might want to try popping swiftness potion before picking up the cask or using speed buffs if available. 3 mins is not a lot of time to get all the way into the forge, so you cannot make any mistakes.

After three attempts, I finally got it on the fourth try. Woot woot! Those staircases are a headache, so watch out. You might fall off a couple of times, but you'll get it. Also, I heard from someone in game that you can't use Darkflight which is completely false and that's also how I made it on my fourth attempt.

Good luck and no matter how frustrating it may be, you'll make it back in time.

I agree, Dractulamede. A visible timer and a few more seconds would be very helpful.

I just ran from the quest-giver to the cask to be sure of my route, then when I was ready to run back with the cask I was sure how to get there best.
I didn't use any other buff or trick and got back with about 19 seconds to spare...but got hung up on the stairs right in front of the quest-giver and ended up turning in my cask on the last second. Whew!

Got it in the second attempt (first one i used Heroic Leap and killed a critter -.-).
Not hard at least for me, trying to run cutting road, taking the small pasage when you cross the bridge after the IF's door and taking big anvril's street.

I ran this quest for the third time after reading all the comments here.
I tracked the path backwards from the Bronze Kettle to the quest giver with the cask, paying attention to the turns I had to make.
I then faced the road and clicked on the cask. I took off right away down the road and stayed on it all the way back up to IF.
Through the entrance on the right side, go straight over the bridge, stay NE and take the opening to the pathway that leads to the Forge, after exiting I made a turn to the left and then a right, through the the Great Forge Way, straight up the stairway to the Bronze Kettle. At the top of the stairs I had to make an extra turn to get through the doorway but I made it in time to click on the ncp! I didn't use any potions or didn't get stuck anywhere. Yahoo! Thanks for the help everyone!

For the record, the Rocket Boots Xtreme series works fine, as does the Nitro Boosts belt enchant (so use both!). As Midgetpower pointed out, any shapeshift appears to break the quest (and it will break any shapeshift you apply beforehand), including cosmetic ones like Orb of Deception and Iron Boot Flask.

I won't be able to get down to Kharanos meself today, but perhaps ye can dash down there, pick up the new cask an' run it back 'ere? What d'ye say?]
