The entrance to the hall of thanes is in the throneroom to the left along the wall. Just go down it and it will end where you need to be. The map is deceptive since it only marks the location of where you will be when you finish. Hope this helps.

This quest helps give the back story on the King's present condition through the following conversation between your orphan, Honor Guard Dunstad, and Advisor Belgrum:

Orphan: This has to be the biggest diamond ever!

Orphan: It looks just like the paintings of King Magni too! Did he really do this to himself?

Honor Guard Dunstad: Aye, lad. He tried to use an old titan ritual to keep his people safe, but this is what it did to him.

Advisor Belgrum: This was my fault, my lord. I should have done more research on those tablets…

Orphan: Wow, I don’t think that was such a good idea…

Orphan: I’m really sorry you lost your king. But in a way, it’s like he’s with you forever!

Once you enter the throne room in Ironforge, turn left and head down the passage way. At the bottom turn left and go up the stairs. Along the way you will see more and more gems laying around, and when you reach the top you will find Magni Bronzebeard.

If you take the path down, you will go to two locked and guarded doors and have to schlep all the way back up.

Anyone else notice the typo in the quest dialog that the Orphan is having?
The Human Orphan will say, "I'm really sorry you lost your king. But in a way, it's like he's with your forever!"

Just a bit of fun news.. this has been there since Vanilla. The trick to getting in there was to sit on your mount just next to the bank, while a mage was inside the throne room. you start a duel, and run all the way back to the door before your proximity took you to a forfeit. Once there, you would have a mage sheep you, then fireblast you thru the door.

From there you could run around old Ironforge. I'm sure there are youtube videos out there somewhere.

I miss Magni.. I found it rather entertaining to just go to IF to hear his voice go "What do you seek beneath the mountain" and "Strength. Honour. I see them in you, why have you come?" Now that he is a giant lump of diamond it feels kinda.. Empty;_;

Interesting quote here when completing the quest, the kid says:

Hey, shamans work with rocks and the earth all the time, right? Maybe one day, they'll be able to help him become a dwarf again!

Could this be a hint that Thrall or another great shaman from the Earthen Ring could revert him back? I know he is just an orphan, but I just have the feeling they are hinting something here.

If any of you got confused a little by everyone else's comments, like me, this is what to do. Enter Ironforge, go to the throne room, and immediately look to your left. There is a path downwards. Stay to your left, and there will be another stairway up. You will see the king frozen. Call the orphan, quest is done!

Quest is bugged for second Cata release. The Westfall and Darnassus quests may be bugged for some players too.

If you still can't get it done in Cata classic, go outside of IF, dismount, call guy and run on foot. You will get it completed

[I heard that Magni Bronzebeard, who used to be the king of Ironforge, turned into a giant diamond! Is that true? How does someone just turn into a diamond? Maybe you have to be a king and that's why no one's done it before.

Can we go see him? He should be in the part of Ironforge called Old Ironforge underneath the High Seat.]
