For this quest dont leave the area that you recieve the quest at. Right behind Calen is the drake you are supposed to ride.

Calen is located at 14.1 15.5

To get to this quest, you must first do the escort the Gob Squad quests, which you first must do the Vermilion Redoubt quests, which I believe you must first do the Old God Quests in the Maw of Madness to the East of the Vermilion Redoubt.
The cloak is best in slot for 2H frost DKs until Heroics.

So i didn't see the drakes in the back, so I went back and hopped on one and started to go out then I got disconnected now the drakes and the quest giver is no where to be found and I don't want to drop the quest just in case it doesn't allow me to pick it up again. Anyone got any solutions?

If you target Deathwing in this quest, he's got one health. One.

That'd be a pretty hilarious final fight, actually. The only way to kill him is to get a level 1 gnome/goblin to walk up and poke him with a staff.

you just have to go back to the circle of life, 14, 15. he's there if you d/c or abandon.

What are the requirements to open this quest? I didn't go to the highlands until after I was 85, and while I can find the NPC it does not have any quests for me.

When you get the quest, mount any red drake in the area
you won't have control at first.
You'll be on follow and be given instructions on how to use your drake's powers
When you gain control, check your map and fly to the top of Grim Batol in order ot find the purple drakes you need to kill. (I was not exactly where I was supposed to be, so I was lost for a bit)

The fight/encounter is simple
button 1: Fireball. Hit a drake with this
button 3: close in to the drake you just hit, and swipe it with this. Drake is dead.
repeat for 8 drakes
(button 2: heal. Didn't use it)

I did not engage in Deathwing

If you abandon this quest, or disconnect during the cutscene, or find you cannot interact with Calen, abandon the quest from your log (if not done already), leave the zone completely, as in hit a major city, relog, and then return to Calen.

The quest will then be obtainable again.

You need to do the Dragonmaw quests until you get sent to this NPC... a rather long suite of quests.
After that, this NPC will set you on another journey of questing ... so far i did not reach this quest. But expect to take a while. However the quests and lore is more than worth it.

After you complete the quest by killing 8 Twilight Shadowdrakes, another cutscene occurs. Like the first, it's fully voice-acted, so turn up your speakers!

Here's a transcript of the scene for posterity. :)

After several minutes of battle, Deathwing and Alexstrasza fall from the top of the mountain towards the ground, clutched tight in each others' claws, determined to destroy each other. Calen and the player fly in persuit.

Calen says: There - they've fallen!

They've separated-- Alexstrasza, exhausted and gravely injured, is reduced to mortal form and lays on the ground halfway down the mountain. Deathwing continues to fall beyond the crest ouf the mountain, out of sight.
Calen (who likewise takes elven form), the player and the player's drake race to the dragon queen's side. She is weak, and her voice wavers as she finds the strength to speak:

Alexstrasza the Life-Binder says: The Earth Warder... he is dead.
Calen says: Mother, stay still. Your wounds are great.
Alexstrasza the Life-Binder says: The black aspect's blood is cursed. Wherever it was shed - nothing will grow for ten thousand years.
Alexstrasza the Life-Binder says: But it is over. We can work now to bottle up the horrors he has unleashed.

Like a phantom, Deathwing rises up, his gigantic form casting a shadow over the land.

Calen says: Deathwing - he lives!

Few things could have forced Alexstrasza to move in her weakened state-- but those words were one of them. She makes herself sit up, unable to believe it is true. Deathwing sets the ground at his feet aflame, glowering over the group.

Alexstrasza the Life-Binder says: Impossible!
Calen says: Mortal, take the dragon queen. Carry her to safety! Now! RUN! Get her away from here!

Calen runs back to put himself between you and Deathwing. Your drake mount runs up, and you throw Alexstrasza's body over its back before mounting as well.

Calen says: I will delay the Aspect of Death. Take her to safety. GO!
Alexstrasza the Life-Binder says: Calen, no!

Calen takes his true form again, and your drake launches you in the air, flying away with all haste despite Alexstrasza's protests.

Calen, while gigantic by mortal standards, is completely dwarfed by the Black Aspect. Realizing he can't stand a chance against Deathwing, he shoots a fireball or two at him, darting back and forth to distract him and keep him from pursuing you. Deathwing, trailing smoke and flame, bellows a proclomation to the land:

Deathwing says: The sun has set on this mortal world, fools. Make peace with your end, for the hour of Twilight falls.

Am i the only one who was completely stunned by the battle? The music makes GREAT difference.
The cinematic just blew my mind, blizz really outdid themselves. I really can't compare anything i've seen in game to this. the wrathgate was a complete failure compared to this.
Goosebumps.
But Calen should have stayed and defended Alexstraza with his own life... Would have been incredible if he had died.
Still, it's one of the cutscenes that really filled me with emotions.

You're not the only one. I've done enough Cata quests to know that battling dragons in the air is by far my favorite of all.

I'm not sure if my game is messed up or if its my Carbonite, but I flew around looking in all the locations posted above. They took me to the middle of The Great Sea. I found the Quest giver at 67.6, 19.7

I have abandoned the quest logged in several times and I am up near the circle of life and can't find Calen. He is still down where i abandoned it before. What do I do?

This is part of a questline, which is great for tanks gearing up for heroic because one of the final rewards is Za'brox's Lucky Tooth. It's a longish questline, but well worth doing as this is a really good trinket. It took me about 2 hours to get to the quest that gives this item, I've kept a log of the quests and I hope this post is useful to people considering taking this on. Chains that are marked in Wowhead are grouped together, non-obvious jumps are on the next paragraph.
This post should help people who either found this page and don't know how to get this quest, or who are trying to decide whether to do this questline to get the trinket all us new tanks seem to be after.

The following 3 are not chained, but all need to be done to get to the next set of quests

This is a great cutscene, worth doing the questline even if you aren't after the trinket.

It is this quest that dinged me to 85. I didnt even intend for it. But what a way to ding to 85 though? Woo!

During the battle, Deathwing has 1 hp and Alexstrasza has many more, like a usual boss. How did he manage to eat away 70% of her hp with his ONE?

Alright, because I'm just enough of a nerdy guy to say it if no one else will...

The view of Alexstrasza's backside while she was slumped over the carrier drake proved to be quite a distraction during that cutscene.

Probably can't use them to do this, but could the flames that Deathwing leaves on the ground when you go to accept this quest be used to get Stood in the Fire? Because they remain there after the cutscene. Has anyone tried it?

i couldnt get on the dragons so i abandonned the quest and looked everywhere to get it back and i can find the guy ...

I took this quest, then got called away to a Battleground. When I returned the Dragon was gone, with only Calen standing there. I cannot finish the quest. Tried to abandon quest to restart, but Calen doesnt offer the quest and the dragon is gone. Tried to ticket a GM, but they took a week to tell me to consult player based knowledge and forums. I see others have similar problems with no solution.
