The quest explicitly states that being/becoming a Demon Hunter is strongly "frowned on" by many of the Night Elves, probably mostly due to Illidan's bad example.

Arcane magic is frowned upon by night elves but they can be mages. Demon Hunters are frowned upon because it usually requires the aid of the burning legion to be one.

While unpopularity/hate from the major populace didn't stop other classes to be available (Warlock, Death Knight) I doubt that one single quest involving the ghost of a Demon Hunter foreshades playable Demon Hunters.

why? if they haven't announced anything yet, why would they add absurd amounts of foreshadowing? I wonder how many have found their way to him in those ruins is textbook foreshadowing.

BC had you working for an independent one and fight four Demon Hunter trainers, so that doesn't mean much.

what's unique about any class these days? the resource system. i'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to make a good one.

Portions of this lore class have been incorporated into rogues, hunters and warlocks already, so a Demon Hunter as its own class can not really stand out.

so? parts of the death knight existed in the warlock (they even share an ability with the same name) also, hunters haven't taken anything from demon hunters other than the name and tracking demons.

Interesting script for this chap...sounds very much like good old Illidan.
In fact, he has the same markings as Illidan, turns into a demon briefly before he dies, also has an Illidan-esque blindfold...
Makes me wonder exactly who he is and if he's using a fake name lol

If you do a 3D view of Illidan and Telarius, you notice some distinct differences side-by-side. Sure, one could chalk up the differences to being "his demon form" or something. But take note of the markings. While very similar at first glance, a closer look will show them being very unique of one another. Also, the hair. Telarius's hair is green. Illidan's is black. Ears are slightly different. Again, I suppose this could all be attributed to his demonic influence? But I doubt it.

IMHO: I imagine Telarius was more than likely some poor sap recruit who still had his recruitment flier on him - being that his level is in the mere teens. Especially given the supporting text of this quest. He couldn't hack it, got trapped in the whirlpool or whatever. Died in Deathwing's path and became a ghost, who knows? I'm not the Fact Checker. But it's logical. As for the "You are not prepared" bit... hey, it could be the demon hunter motto for all we know.

Also, Blizz does adore throwing in obscure, but blatant hints. Like the release date of Cataclysm was "leaked" intentionally in an obscure reference in-game. Of course, everyone guessed it. This could be a similar not-so-subtle 'hint'.

Blizz has also stated, they do intend on other hero classes, just not "right now". I think this was because at the time they were focused on getting Cata launched first. One major catastrophe at a time. heh

Plus, it extends the shelflife of WoW if they can launch one major change at a time, instead of all at once. Then there's all the resources into creating, editing, testing, editing, testing, testing, editing, etcetera, ad nauseum.

Do I believe this to be a hint? Sure! Why not? It's fun to speculate. And if it isn't? So what? I mean, really. You know work doesn't stop when they launch a major expansion. The creators don't sit around and QC what's launched. The thinktanks have already started on the next one, and it's just a matter of time until they unveil what they've decided on. And rest assured, it will have a buggy and rocky start just like every other major upheaval. Besides. They have to have SOMETHING for Blizzcon. I suspect they actually have the next several expansions penciled out, if not more.

And heralds are meant to spread the word!

More than some recruit (as someone speculated) he seems to be a recruiter, waiting for initiates to find him (by chance or addressed to him by someone else) and start the path of the "Dark Embrace".

It would be nice i think if they put demon hunter as a secondary class or sorts that requires a long from lvl 10 up to lvl 8 quest chain across kalimdor and the EA, maybe even into outland and icecrown where you slowly unlock DH abilities untill you get the choice of becoming a demon hunter or staying as you normal class and getting perhaps a unique legendary item, considerig it'll be like 50-100 quests in a chain from lvl 10 - 80

IMO adding a demon hunter class to the game will be such an insult to the class, AND to the Kaldorei race, since the only ones who were capable of training as demon hunters so far were Kaldorei and a minority of Blood elves. I refuse to believe that a Goblin or a Gnome can become a demon hunter...

Even tho, I would accept the idea if they are ONLY going to let Kaldorei and Blood elves choose such class, but it would still get insulted by some wannabee players who're going to desecrate the class, alot.

I think this is foreshadowing the Demon Hunter as being the next playable race, because there has been so much talk and the Demon Hunter introduced in Diablo 3 is not even comparable to the Demon Hunters in the Warcraft series.

Also, if people are doubting them since they were already a hero class back in WC3(I think it was WC3), the Death knight was also a Hero class in WC3, Reigns of Chaos whereas the Demon Hunter was in Tides of Darkness.(Well this is what I heard)

LOREMASTER ! I was at 89/90 Darkshore quests, last zone I needed in Kalimdor (I'm a L85 Human Warrior, so I don't know what the hoo-haa is about Demon Hunters and Night Elves). I got this quest by scrolling to the last quest listed for Darkshore in Wowhead. Real easy. Go to whirlpool, south-south-east of Lor'Danel, and just chuck yerself in. After a bit of swirling, you'll emerge underground in the Bashal'Aran Collapse. Run up the slope, and THE MOB BOSS AT THE TOP HAS THE QUEST. Kill the mob boss at the top. He'll drop the Writings. Run back down the slope, to an NPC who you can ask to get you outa there. Once out, go see Ranger Glynda in Lor'Danel. Quest complete. Loremaster for Kalimdor DONE!

I was on a different Quest and trying to follow my arrow..Wouldn't you know I thought jumping into the wirlpool might be a way into some little cave to find some "Rats" ?...Ya right..Being very new to WoW I said I'm not in Knsas anymore and I hear a voice telling me I should not be here. I begin to find a way out but then I turn around to find where this voice came from. The voice attached to some thing-looked like a Darkelf but it attacked me and me and my Hunter kitty killed him. Wich begins an interesting new Quest...I hope! I got 2 awards 1 for not dying on the jump and the other for finding this place..Cool!

[The scrolls are vague and appear to be a piece of a much larger puzzle, but if you are not mistaken, they seem to reveal some of the steps on the path to becoming a demon hunter.

The dark oaths and rituals necessary for becoming a demon hunter are frowned on by most of the night elves, so this is likely something they would be very interested in keeping quiet.
