They are at partial health, easy to kill. They also drop a good amount of embersilk cloth :)

Does anyone know if they are still there after the quest is complete? these guys drop the most cloth I've seen and I'd like to keep farming them.

After the 10th kill, you go straight to a cutscene. When that's done, the place is littered with corpses and no more cloth *cry* Anything else would have implied Bliz had love for crafters.

To clarify, fly into the Chamber of the Moon and then down the shaft in the center of the room. I was flying around outside trying to figure out where to go for several minutes until I realised it was inside.

Don't be a sucker for punishment with this quest. If you're ambitious, you can kill the elites outside the Obelisk near the tents, but the easiest way to complete this quest is by going inside the Obelisk... the elites are at roughly 25% health which makes for much faster completion.

This is a very nice quest for warriors, you can spam execute once they get to 20% health, which doesn't take long, because they start at 33% health.

The Ancestral Guardians that are fighting the elites drop a small amount of money (usually nominal at this level) when attacked before attacking the elites. As soon as you switch to attacking the elite they die and you get the loot.

Perfect mobs for anyone looking for a nice amount of ember silk and raw gold. the mobs are always at 33% health as soon as they spawn which makes it even greater for a Warrior or a Hunter due to Kill Shot and Execute, spawn rate is also very fast. The mobs are found under ground, one entrance is the one facing the far upper right camp, they are at the very bottom.

OK, I can vouch for the decent amount of gold/silver these guys drop, but I think there have been some changes. As soon as I started fighting one of the Schnottz elites, the ancestral guardian died, with no chance to fight or loot him. The cloth drop rate seems to be alright, WHEN it drops. Out of 10 kills and 9 loots (the last kill is basically ninja'd from you by the cut-scene) I got a total of 12 embersilk cloth and no greens. The scavenged animal parts and string cheese are not much of a consolation.

If you're a frost mage (or any class that has a barrier that does damage when it breaks) stay away from the ancestral guardians while you fight the elites, or you'll have two things attacking you at once.

There have apparently been a stealth nerf on the drop rate for the Schnottz Elite Troopers as of 01/15/11.

As mentioned above, the Ancestral Guardian will die and despawn when you engage the Trooper. This will also happen if you mistakenly attack the Ancestral Guardian. A couple of times my pet would attack the Ancestral Guardian when I clicked on the wrong mob, but when I would switch his target to the Trooper, the Guardian WILL despawn and not continue to fight.

I ended up killing 9 Troopers, dropping the quest, and then re-starting to get an idea of the drop rate. It's not very impressive. Out of 18 loots (since a cut-scene kicks in immediately after the 10th kill, preventing you to pick up loot) I got only 11 pieces of Embersilk Cloth. When it did drop, it was one 4-piece drop, and one 5-piece drop. Gold was usually in the area of 30 silver per loot, with 4 separate 1 gold loots (out of 18). No gear or vendor grays dropped for me.

XP for mobs were low as well, about 4.5k at level 84.

I completed the first half of this quest, to the cut scene,
then i picked up the next quest (the one with the invisibility cloak), i got 2/7 of the barrels but it wouldnt let me get anymore, so i abandoned the quests and thought i'd go pick it up again..but i can't find it -____- Does anyone know where i can get it from?~

I must have the luck of the Danged! Only had one green drop and NO cloth! Then they didn't drop nothing over 1 gold after the first three! And I couldn't loot the last one because it went straight to the cut-scene!

and no way to loot no 10...
But at least I wasnt fighting the 100% health elites

I have farmed theese npc alot, like 30 hours+

Totally i have got 6 epic world drop from them and lots of rare drop, like rare enchant and jc

This is my history for 1 hour farming as none tailor using a "Potion of treasure finding"

Golddrop from loot and tiny treasure chest = 327g
Embersilk Cloth = 304 (drop + loot from tiny treasure chest)
Green items = 21 (loot)
Elementium Lockbox = 2 (loot)
Pyrite Ore = 10 (tiny treasure chest)
Elementium Ore = 17 (tiny treasure chest)
Volatile Fire = 7 (tiny treasure chest)
Volatile Water = 8 (tiny treasure chest)
Volatile Earth = 6 (tiny treasure chest)
trash loot sold to vendor for around 100-125g

i did fill up my 55 free slot in 45 min, so a vendor mount will be usefull
normally i get >200 cloth and >15 green items pr hour

I am using a Shadowpriest (Pipsi ilvl 375 on Turalyon)
- Spell rotation 3*Mind Spike - 1*Mind Blast - 1*SW:D (burst kill in 4 sec)
i kill 300 of theese NPC in 1 hour :D

They have a spawn timer like 30-45 sec, so i have a route where i kill 7 before i am back on the first one again

I cant go there with my main since i have done all quest in Uldum, so if you want to farm there, dont do the Harrison Jones quest line

Not many can say they have got 2 epic drop in 2 kill wich I can :D

I have just got the quest and tried to do it. I'm not sure if its just my computer but when ever I kill something it does not count at all. Must have went thorough 600 of them.

Killing these as a DK I found if you death grip the Schnottz Elite Troopers, the Ancestral Guardians don't despawn. Inevitably AoE kills them from heart strike or disease spreading, so it's free XP.

hmm i done the Quest, after completing it and accepting next quest i went into tolbarad cuz it popped up, after tolbarad he wasn't there so i abandoned the quest, now i'm looking for harison jones but he's not @ the Oasis, where is he?
