This event seems to be a reference to a palantír, the seeing stones, in Lord of the Rings! For those not familiar with the books or early animated movies, there are scenes shown in The Return of the King.

When you activate the eye, this is the script of the scene that plays:

Twilight Servant says: We have confirmed the Horde presence at Dragonmaw Port, master. They are now in league.
Cho'gall says: This changes nothing. (Nothing nothing changes. Crush them, crush.)
