You have to kill a boss with 11 million hp, you have 3 allies that will tank him and do most of the damage. Eventually altars will spawn, then you just run around in a circle clicking the three good ones and avoiding the shadow one (it has black swirly stuff around it that damages you if you get close). Your allies can get killed during the battle, and if they do you have to walk up to them and right click them to cast a fast resurrection on them and get them back into the fight.

At about 10%, he kills all your allies and you have to click on a horn that one of them drops. It's very difficult to see it on the ground, even with an arrow marking it, but it's there. Once you click on it your allies rez and the fight is over shortly. Pretty easy but takes a long time.

This quest can bug and not spawn the horn. If this happens, your two options are: dropping the quest, and sitting through the cinematic again, hoping it doesn't bug the second time, or beating down 600k health 10 dmg at a time.

I seem to be having a problem with this quest. I survived his backhand and landed on a mountain. I flew back to attack and received no help from the friendly npc's at all. They are still lying down in blue aoe circles after five attempts resulting in my death. I have tried everything to actually get this to start. Any ideas or am I missing something?

Bugged. When I fly back up there there's about 10-15 Garona and Lady Cozwynn corpses stuck there and 1 Warlord Zaela corpse in the circle with a green arrow that I imagine is supposed to start the fight. Really aggravates me that Bliz could fail so bad at such an important quest.

It was bugged for me and 2 other players. We took him down from 270k health while doing about 10 dmg each hit. Boring!

Also bugged, horribly but funny - when I came there, he was fighting like 30-50 Garonas and about 5-7 copies of Zaela and the undead chick. Madness! As soon as I was told to run to altars, he simply died, but this death didn't count towards the quest objective. Rinse repeat... I wrote a ticket to GM, still waiting response.

Edit: GM marked the quest as complete for me and said they didn't know of the issue. Now they do.

Despite being bugged, did this on my Rogue with a Pally and Druid who were in the area and needed to do the quest. Tank & spank with me occasionally running over and hitting the altars.
We all got credit, no problem.

As an update, I got the quest to work. All I had to do was start the chain of quests leading to the Dragonmaw. After I finished those, I was able to redo this quest and it worked perfectly.

This quest was all messed up, me and a pally kept abandoning the quest logging out and coming back to the fight to gain more mobs to kill him while he was bugged..took a while but deff worked. Finally beat him then he re-spawns 2 seconds later and the fight goes the way its supposed to...psh typical. This quest is doable while bugged but only if u have some time to waste.

I successfully completed this quest last night, with no issues, but I had no one else with me (wasn't in a group/party), maybe that had something to do with it?

Oh, and just to note: the item dropped for me was drums, not a horn. (just in case someone sees drums but no horn, and gets confused :) )

I can't even even complete this quest. After the backhand I fly back to find him stuck in place and evading every attack. Nothing happens and he is stuck at 1 million health. This is really bugging me.....

This quest bugged out for me, well the alliance version.

I had one of those rare bugs that fell into the player's favor, rather than causing nerd rage.

The bug I had involved 30 Mathias Shaws, and 40 Holy paladin healer helpers.. lets just say that Skullcrusher the Mountain went down quicker than a troll with ED.

Be prepared to spend over 1:45 on this one!
As others have posted, when I first picked up this quest it had the multiple helper NPCs bug. After abandoning and retaking it twice to no avail, I did the Cata quest bug-fix dance: logout, relog and die. Die by flying to a tremendous height and dismounting. This seems to work each time.

When I picked up the quest again and returned from being backhanded, as hoped for, each of the three NPCs were attacking.

Skullcrusher does not attack you, but he has a debuff that minimizes damage to around 10hp per hit. Crits may hit for 25hp. He is in some kind of stationary-purple-flux-petrified state and other than grunting now and again, just stands there and lets you wail on him.

I started spamming general chat for others to join in and soon had around 8 more in there with me. Still, just 10hp per hit but, of course, more hits.

After about a 1/2 hour, Skullcrusher will drop to around 80% and elemental buff fountains will spawn on top of the skull altars. Clicking on these give you & group various buffs that increase hit power and speed significantly. The real bonus here is more frequency of melee and spell hits. If you have a group (even informally organized as we were), have someone run around and constantly trigger the fountains. Buff also gives you a cool shoulder graphic.

The elemental fountains remain for the duration of the fight but during this time you can take damage from a swirling void ground cloud if you stand in it. Easy to avoid if you stay in Skullcrusher's hit box.

At this point, you begin to see a slight acceleration in the decrease of his 11 million health pool. Now is the time to take a bio, read the newspaper or make dinner because you're still about an hour away from completion. Just make sure someone is keeping those buffs stacked.

You will finally get him to 10%, (and as posted here) when he kills the 3 NPCs one of which drops a set of drums. Clicking the drums does two things: 1) resurrects the NPCs and 2) takes him out of his petrified stasis and reduces him to a normal gronn-type mob. The end is in sight--about 2 seconds actually.

Congratulate yourself and friends on the King of the Mountain achievement (if you have done all of the lead in quests) and realize that you will be one of the few who have stuck it out to the bitter-end.

Overall, an easy quest if you have a mountain of patience.

Did this today. No bug problems at all.. Took about 10 min total time including the cinematic.
Had to rez 3 npc's during fight, clicked on all 3 altars when they flashed about 5 times each, clicked on the drum, no issues seeing it at all..
All pcs to be rez'd and the drum had a big flashing arrow over them.
Big warning on screen to tell you to rez the pc's and click on altars the first time around and for the drum.
Alot of fun to do this quest on a DK.. dont know how it will be on other classes tho, hopefully someone will post info on how it went for the other classes as well.

I'm tabbed out from doing this quest as I type this. Seeing about the same thing Daarva wrote. Crits running from 150 - 250. I'm grouped with one other person and we've been hitting this guy for about 20 to 30 minutes and only have him down 5%. It had other signs of being bugged. When I first finished the cinematic, someone else had tapped him. I abandoned, tried again, same thing. Abandoned again, grouped with the guy that tapped him and it was still slow, so we both abandoned and tried again. Each time I restarted, he was back at the health he was when I abandoned (98%, 97%, etc.). Nothing's popped up on the altars. I'll probably give up soon and try again tomorrow.

Still bugged as of Dec 26, NPC's not attacking, Skullcrusher evading everything I threw at him. Did the Cata reset quest dance three times, (drop quest, relog, die, go get quest again) all I managed to do was get a repair bill.

I have been able to finish this quest once on my shaman, but attempting it on my priest today I ran into the evade bug. Skullcrusher himself was stuck in a roaring pose and the friendly NPCs were just standing around. I opened a ticket and was told that Blizzard is aware of the issue. I was not given a 'quest complete', just a 'yep, it's broke. Sucks for you.' response.

Still evade bugged, no amount of relogging, dying or anything can make a difference. GM ticket raised and they say it's a problem the devs are aware of and are fixing. In other words they know it's completely FUBAR at the moment and we will just have to wait until it's fixed. Bit of a poor show for a climactic quest chain end.

Been trying this quest for days. After GM ticket and emailing Blizzard, I tried doing it with all my addons turned off. I used to get the same evade bug where the giant is frozen in a roaring position. He hasn't changed but now he is targetable and I am hitting him for a fractions of the damage from around 90%... its going to take a while but seems like progress. I dont know if Blizzard made any changes since couple of days ago. Good luck.

As of 1-5-2011 11:19 A.M (EST) on Spinebreaker US (Horde side) - I'm having problems with this quest. It works fine up until Skullcrusher casts "Fists of Cho'gall" and you need to use the Drums to revive your companions. Mine do not revive and the whole event starts over. I've done this 3 times now to no avail.

Edit: Ticket was answered and got a big "Hey, sorry we're not gonna do anything. Thanks for waiting 13 hours for your ticket to be answered." How fun!

Is anyone else having trouble completing this quest? You get to the end where you have to pick up the war drums and play them. I pick em up and play em and he dissappears and it starts all over again :(

I got him right to where I beat the drums. After doing so I get the message that Dragonmaw reinforcements arrive, at that point Skullcrusher despawns and the event resets. After a few seconds he will spawn again at full health.

Still bugged as of 6 jan 2011. Tried it 8 times. 3 times of which were drop n pick up (which doesn't fix it, just repeats again.)
I'm shocked the lazy @#$%s still haven't fixed this quest.

Just did it. Big Ditto. Despawns a couple hunter kill shots after drums. One druid there fighting with me had already hung in through a couple despawns before I arrived.

In the mechanics of the fight, on my screen I had a hell of a time seeing the fallen (will raise my gamma if I try it again).

Seems to be bugged again as of 07/01/2011.

On 3 consecutive attempts I spent a while grinding down his health to the point where you play the drums to summon the Dragonmaw.

I clicked the Drums, the Dragonmaw arrived but as soon as they jumped off their mounts and Bloodlusted I would lose phasing end up in a fresh one with me, Garona, Zaeta and the healer chick just standing around until Skullcrusher spawned again. Rinse repeat.

If reinforcements are not called after 60 seconds, Skullcrusher the Mountain will now despawn. When reinforcements are called, Skullcrusher no longer improperly despawns.

It will be fixed on your next server restart. Hooray.

Also bugged for me, tried 5 times now.
I get him to the last phase where i have to click the drums after the dragomaw arrives, when i click it i gain bloodlust and then he despawns.

After 1 min or so he respawns with full health and no quest credit :(

I had to beat him down to about 80% then came in the alter stuff and after his health gets low he does his juggernaut thing and when I click on the drums he disappears and then respawns 10 sec later and I didn't get any credit. WTF is up with that.

Bugged for me the last two days - Alliance on Alleria.

I get thru the altars, the reviving the guys, and the blowing the horn no problem, but as soon as the horn is blown, I get about 6 lines in chat telling me I've got incoming reinforcements, and then Skullcrusher fades out and, about 15 - 30 seconds later, the quest restarts.

C'mon Blizz...it's an achievement, you'd think you'd have got it right before you made it an achievement...

Just goes to show you that not all achievements are easy to get. This guy is bugging on me and it makes no sense. I seriously wish blizzard would pay attention and fix things right away, not talk about how they'll get it when the Deathwing patch comes out 5 years from when we complained about it. I just tried it 6 times, and each time at the end when the drums drop, it takes a few minutes, then he reappears at full health. After the first 3 times a Paladin grouped with me and we tried to do it twice, and he had enough and left. I tried it one more time after that. Wasted a lot of time, paid my 50 gold armor repair and put in a ticket.

EDIT on January 11, 2011 at 19.45 server time Draka. Quest debugged and soloable with nice rewards.

I did this quest five, six, maybe seven times...I lost track.

Hunter tip: Don't Feign Death when you capture aggro or he will despawn.

This is completely bugged. Every time it reaches the Horn stage for players today, at least in my server, when the boss is at around 1,000,000 hp, and it says reinforcements have arrived, all the mobs Despawn, and it starts over.

Stayed up late on a work night to get the 120 quest complete achievement and ended up spending hours doing another 30 quests for the final achievement. The bug is icing on this disaster cake of storyline disappointment.

Went and tried the quest for the sixth time just after a maintenance window and it worked first time. No evade bug, all attackers up and active. Many others still see it as bugged though so it is just luck of the draw. Something Blizzard really needs to address as the climactic quest

As of 1/23/2011 at around 0330, I completed this quest without incident. No bugging out, no despawing, took about one minute 30, maybe two minutes. Fire mage, Level 85, Hordeside on Skywall.

As of 0011 1/24/2011, husband just completed it as well.

I am so glad we never even tried these before this weekend after reading what you all went through. Thank you for paving the way for the rest of us.

A note for frost mages. I did this quest yesterday and died several times from not getting heals from the npc. On the third try I noticed it was healing my water elemental instead of me. Dismissed the elemental for the fight and had no problem

Just did this quest as a blood dk. Died four times in a row on it. Instant death too... I just went from full health to dead in one hit during the middle of the fight, before the horn shows up. I'm guessing what was happening is I was drawing aggro from the NPCs & the attack that would normally down one of them (so that you can click revive) was hitting me instead. So I just toned it down & did far less damage, the fight went normal, and I got credit for it.

Balance druid 85.
The only way I found to do this quest after dying way to many times, was to:

Start to hit him from afar if you can. The three NPCs will be trying to do damage too. They will tell you to go to the altars, click on each one. WATCH the purple swirly things that go off periodically at different altars. You will die standing in or around them.

Best bet is to do as they ask, jump on the rocks, hit from there or do not hit let the npcs do the work. When they tell you to heal one of the NPCs. make sure the altar you are going through does not have the purple swirls, if it does wait till they go on to another altar, then go in and right click to heal them, back up to your rock.

There will be a drum that falls, and you will have to run in and click on the drum, help will come, quest complete. Good luck!

This is not a fun quest. As a Warlock, I spent all my time running in a circle around the boss keeping dots up, avoiding the black/purple flame, and clicking on npc allies to revive them as they would all go down so fast. They are so close to the boss, that half the time I clicked on them, my Lock would try and melee attack the boss, making me have to click a second or third time for it to work. The boss finally went down after about 10 minutes on my first try.
