As soon as the totem appears destroy it, as it is what makes you turn into the monster and gives him back his full health. GL!

Tried to solo this as a 72 mage, couldn't do it-very difficult to target the totem and even when I was able to knock it out, still turned into the charmed creature. Never got killed, but couldn't kill the mob either, ended up a draw. Need something to break or prevent the spell, when charmed you can't click on anything.

Tried to solo this- and had same problem but I was able to destroy totem every time....
still was turned into hulking charmed monster which he healed. I did not die but was unable to kill him. I was able to kill his little buddy behind the alter with him though.

Ok I came back as a 71 warrior as was finally able to down this guy using defensive stance and ez-thro dynamite II, which has a stun effect. The ability to resist being charmed would be great here.

Just killed him as a 65 frost mage. After reading all of the above comments, I was actually

surprised that I killed him. I died 4 times before killing him. The last time I had mage ward on. But

the main thing was I had my pet water elemental on him attacking him while I was 40yds away

attacking. First 4 times he came after me eventually, this time too, but he spent longer time w/ the

water elemental this time, and by the time he got to me I was able to kill it. Wasn't able to knock out

his totem but the one he used on my water elemental didn't seem to affect me 'cuz i was far away.

He brought another totem when he came to me, i was not able to knock it out, but i killed him soon

afterwards b4 i turned. Was it the mage ward? I honestly don't know.

Tried to solo him about half of hour on my 74 resto druid

still hexed me and reset himself about 20 times

then i got angry and activate my secondary (and cata boring) balance talent

somehow his first hex was not efective - maybe "just in time" moonkin form or i don't know
then he was down before second hex
