Just as an FYI, to anyone doing this quest and thinking it maybe bugged because using the flasks on the elementals never seems to work:

The living, corrupted water that flows through their bodies

Sample, then kill. They gotta be alive when you use the flasks on them.

i was able to use the same mob over and over by not killing and using flask over on same npc's. just swim in a big circle and lose range/aggro.

Also take note that it can be used on all elementals in the water, not the purple plagued ones.

It can be used while you are in combat, so if you have enough armor/stamina you can grab the whole lake and use the bottle on them, then kill them all at the same time

i wish i read your post happyland before killing everything in the lake. it seemed to work on the rings that appear after you kill something, but after a dozen or so killings i realized something was wrong.

When i did this quest the instructions were very clear-use the flasks on "living" elementals.

Because I was much higher level than the mobs, I could not target them and use the flask-they would be dead with one shot. So I left-clicked, then used the flask.

Worked great on all the mobs in the lake.

I just did this quest.

All you need to do is enter combat with an elemental and when they are close spam use of the flask.

You'll notice it works because they will shrink in size Then you can kill them.

That's all :D

[Coagulated rot is potent on its own, but we need something to activate its concealed powers... a catalyst. You can find just such a catalyst to the south, in Lake Mereldar.

If you look down, you'll notice that I slipped a set of flasks into your bags while you weren't looking. These flasks can be used on the water elementals in the lake. The living, corrupted water that flows through their bodies will be the perfect catalyst!]
