The troll druid, Zen'Kiki (one of the funniest NPCs in the game), simply spawns them for you and you gotta kill 7 total. Coordinates are approximately 55,54.

Special note for Hunters:
The only way to tame a Diseased Hawk is through this quest.

Note that if you tame a hawk and still want to complete this quest, you'll have to dismiss the bird to continue. Otherwise Zen'Kiki will just keep shooting uselessly at the one you've tamed whenever you poke him.

Be sure you are not mounted, because then it does not work. There is no warning that you can't do that because of sitting still on a mount as you probably are because of riding on the hill ;)

for alliance that want to tame it, you'll have to have a horde summon it down, once it's downtrap the bird so you have some aggro on it, but it will still be aggro'd on the hordie. you will not be able to tame the thing with aggro being on your friend so simply have the hordie run away til aggro breaks and it's all yours

Just finished this quest on my Dwarf Shaman. This quest is not Horde only.

It's not obvious, but you have to right-click on Zen'Kiki to have him shoot a hawk. I was looking for a pet bar, but it didn't need one.

If there is an enemy with a tamed bird there, Zen'Kiki might shoot at that instead of a wild one. I saw that he had done that, decided to hoof it (there was another ally there besides the hunter and I'm terrible at pvp to begin with), ran down the hill, and the Argent Dawn guard promptly one shot me.

If you see an <opposite faction> hunter, you might want to wait until s/he clears out before doing this quest.

Every time you right-click him once on the hill (or at least most of the time) he'll say something.

"Hey, that tickles, mon!"
"Quit yer pokin', mon!"

He'll also say "Alright, here I go!" sometimes.

I'm not sure if he says anything else.

The most Epic NPC in WoW his shapeshift's onto Moonkin are brilliant moar Q liek that blizz and more npc like this one ! :D

A couple errors I found while on my new hunter:

Zen'Kiki will fire at a freshly tamed Diseased Hawk, as stated many times above. (dismissing it should fix the problem)
If another player is around doing the same quest, Zen'Kiki will shoot at their already summoned birds.

I had both of them happen to me. The fact that my pet was on defensive didn't help, because it apparently tagged the one summoned by a Blood Elf rogue, who then proceeded to yell at me. So note to the hunters: dismiss the hawk, and keep your pet on passive while doing this to avoid instigating nerd rage.

Otherwise, a very easy (and highly humorous) quest.

Zen'kiki has more quests available after this one, however: In order to access his next quest, you must do the quests around Mender's Stead that will eventually send you up to the Lumber Mill, and then on to Hearthglen.

Once you return from Hearthglen, there will be a quest available to investigate Gahrron's Withering - when you complete that quest, along with this one, then the next quest Zen'kiki and the Cultists, opens up.

The weird bug that makes you do the warlock summon animation during is NOT present during this quest, which is handy.

You Do Not Have To Be Mounted & The Quest Can Be Completed on both Factions

- Go Ontop Of The Hill.
- Right Click on Zen'Kiki he will Start Shooting at the Birds. (you may see the birds in the sky)
- You finish them off and just do this 7 times.

Even if you are in Stealth, when Zen'Kiki casts Wrath on a bird, the bird will attack you, therefore you will lose Stealth.

If Zen'Kiki isn't responding to when you right-click him, make sure you're dismounted. I spent 15 minutes wondering why he wouldn't call any Diseased Hawks down. Then I got ganked (which dismounted me), returned to my body and tried again. It worked.

You don't actually need to right-click to attract a bird.
They often fly low enough that you can simply attack one yourself.
I completed this on my mage without even realising you could right-click him.

However, given the number of old comments talking about the difficulties in "summoning" the birds.
And given that there isn't a single comment pre Cata-Classic mentioning you can initiate the attack.
I'm left wondering if this is a bug in Classic itself. 🤔

[Among other things, Zen'Kiki needs to work on his spell accuracy. I could see his wrath spells spiraling out of control even from here! In fact, I used them as a marker to follow your progress through the woods.

Perhaps we can use Zen'Kiki another way. Take him up to the top of the hill just to our east. The diseased hawks that circle above that hill must be destroyed. Ask Zen'Kiki to shoot at these hawks. Even if he can't hit them, he will distract them so you can finish them off.]
