Murd Doc is inside the actual Gnomeregan instance.
He will be standing at the entrance with alittle robot army when you enter.

Would be nice in the quest log it actually said "Dungeon" usually the indicator that it's inside the instance rather than outside.

Confirmed. Murd Doc and six of his closest minions are immediately inside the Clockwork Run entrance, a.k.a "the front entrance", not to be confused with the Workshop entrance, a.k.a the "back entrance". Turn in the quest & he sends you on to kill a level 29 elite elemental called Viscous Fallout.

Just to confirm for Loremaster-types: & are mutually-exclusive. You cannot accept one if you already have the other in your log. Also, it appears that neither of these breadcrumbs is available after you've accepted the next quest in the Gnomeregan dungeon chain, .

Perfectionist as I am: had Home Sweet Gnome from my Dun - Hinterlands quest grind, completed it but did not accept or do G-Team. Went to Fort Livingston for Exploring Gnomeregan, and it is not offered to me. So it is not just that you cannot accept both at a time, or do them after doing G-Team, you can only do one of these indefinitely. Kind of a shame cause both quests are tracked by many addon (Wowhead quest log, Wholly, etc).

[I used t' have quite the home back in Ironforge. That is, I did until I was booted out to make way for the gnomes.

They couldn't stop a bunch of troggs with all them gizmos and machines! An' I have to pay for their weakness?

Go to Gnomeregan and talk to Commando Murd Doc. Sure, he's a gnome, but his crew, S.A.F.E. I think they call 'em, are going to take Gnomeregan back.
