Just completed this on live server, Blood Furnace. Just a few casts in Southfury River in Durotar and I had my Giant Furious Pike. Easy quest :)

I haven't "tested it extensively", because I'm not that insane, yet, but I don't think this can be completed if you exit Orgrimmar from the Southfury Bridge and head North (right). A few of us sat there for about 30 minutes. I've completed the quest on other toons about 6 times heading south anywhere between 1 cast and 3-5 minutes.

When you come out of the valley of spirits exit of orgrimmar, go left and fish down there. I fished on the right side (above the dam) and couldn't catch any until I went southeast of the damn.

Fish is catched only in Durotar, so don't go to the Ashenvale's or Azshara's Southfury River, you will catch only crap-fish for newbies.

Caught on second cast with only 171 fishing level. No sweat at all.

I think there must be a minimum fishing skill level required. I tried this on my DK who had fishing 5 at the time and I could never catch the furious pike.

I leveled up to 25 fishing and went back and tried it again and it worked.

Whether or not this quest is zone specific is irrelevant. You can fish this up while standing on the western shore quite easily. Head to the first patch of shoreline to the south of the bridge that exits Orgrimmar and you will see it in a few tries.

On an interesting note, when I tried to fish in the quest area with zero skill I got the message "Your fish got away!"... something I haven't seen for quite some time (and believed was actually impossible). Was able to fish as normal after I skilled up a little bit inside Orgrimmar. If anyone else can duplicate this, I'd be interested to hear about it.

Confirming the Durotar part of the river here. I leveled from 478-481 casting in the river off Ashenvale, then got it on the third cast in Durotar.

It was really easy for me; only 3 or 4 casts to get it. Plus, you don't HAVE to be in Durotar, caught it while I was in Barrens and I deliberately made sure that I was in there. Well, I could always have been in Barrens while my cast reached Durotar, I can't be 100% sure of that.

Way to go Blizz. The river could be any of four different zones "just outside the gate", so lets make all but one of them ineligible and not mention it in the quest text. I hate how often I've had to check community resources to find out about quest bugs, finicky mechanics, and phasing isses in this xpac.

I don't think it has a minimum lvl. I started at lvl 14 and caught it at lvl 21. However, the "fish got away" thing doesn't give you a lvl, It took about an hour of fishing to slowly build it up. I was on the Durotar side the whole time, and I did leave org from the west gate. good luck with this quest. I guess it's like any other quest in WoW, some ppl are real lucky and get it in two or three shots, others it takes a while.

Just picked up fishing on my main, saw this daily quest and went to 37, 15 like the comment somewhere above me and got it on my very first cast ever ^_^

A good place to stand for this is on the tiny outcropping of rock below the waterfall, at . If you're a Death Knight, just throw up Path of Frost and stand right underneath the bridge.

I cast about 30 times and didn't get it. Then realized that I was in Northern Barrens. Moved north to right under the bridge, as the previous post suggested. Saw my chat info change to indicate that I was now in Durotar. Caught the pike on the 2nd cast.

Just got the pike after 25 casts while in Durotar. Skill lvl 200 +75. You just have to be a little patience sometimes, and this was a quick daily for me tho :)

Got it after about 10 casts. Like it's said, you have to do it from Durotar and inside the marked area.

Was standing in northrend barrens for about 10 min and did not get anything. After that i went over to durotar and i took 2 casts for me to get the fish.

where i was fishing at first i kept getting the fish got away message but then i went to the other side if the river and found a school of fish and it let me catch them and get my skill up

Was fishing for about 30 minutes, then moved on to Durotar's side, just by the small waterfall & bridge. I made 4 casts and I picked up the needed item.
