The drop rate of the chunks seems incredibly low, just killed over 40 of the Hyenas and only got 2 chunks. Not a very fun quest ):

Drop rate for this quest and Gazer Tag is craptacular. The mobs are too far apart also.

I'm gonna have to agree with both of the above posts.

Low drop rate + few mobs that are spread out = not fun.

Thought they were getting rid of quests like this = /

This quest is OBVIOUSLY a hilarious Blizzard reference to "vanilla WoW", in which there were quests very similar to this one.

This clever reference had me laughing the entire 20-minute period I was killing hyenas and basilisks, looting them, looking around the vast desert around me, spotting the nearest hyena up on a sand dune a mile and a half away, mounting up, riding to it, killing it, catching a glimpse of a distant white speck, mounting up again, riding toward the glint of white in the distance hoping it was a basilisk...

although .. since you are reading this i presume you came here out of frustation .. so too late :-)

The quest designer obviously couldnt bother 'bout the memo from Blizzard stating that questing should be more Cataclysm (FUN) and less Vanilla (GRINDING).

Both this and the 'Gazer Tag' quest come from the same area in Tanaris. And both of them are frustrating because of the weak drop rates. I killed 22 hyenas for the six hyena chunks here, and 19 gazers for the 5 ocular crystals needed for the 'Gazer Tag' quest. When you have to gather 1 or 2 of something, bad drop rates are understood and accepted. When you have to gather a half dozen or more, you shouldn't have to kill 3 or 4 critters (at least) to get *one*. This is just grinding.

The bright side? I did it with a character who has skinning. That made it tolerable, since if nothing else, each kill was another heavy or thick leather to sell at AH. If I didn't have skinning it would have driven me batty!

Hey Blizzard these Tanaris quest are bugged. Frequesntly, every 5 kills or less, I keep getting the error message the "you are to far away to loot this object". This is occuring all over Tanaris. Get a fix for this so no one else has to put up with this during these absurdly long and pointless quest.

Got mine in about 11 kills, seems like they may have upped the drop rate.

The only good reason not to skip these quests is that they lead into , which is quite fun and unusual!

[I've got an idea, but we're going to need bait.

The other day I saw a rabid blisterpaw hyena wander too close to the edge of the chasm, and one of the silithid comes diving out of nowhere. Nearly swallowed it whole! Horrible sight.

So we're gonna need hyena meat, obviously. Go gather some, make sure it's fresh, and bring it back here. There should be plenty just north of the camp.]
