Make sure you are killing the Glasshide Gazers like it says in the quest details, not the Glasshide Basilisks, like it says at the beginning. This screwed me up a bit.

Terrible drop rate. Only been killing the Gazers, took over 30 kills to get all crystals...

although .. since you are reading this i presume you came here out of frustation .. so too late :-)

The quest designer obviously couldnt bother 'bout the memo from Blizzard stating that questing should be more Cataclysm (FUN) and less Vanilla (GRINDING).

This is a bugged quest. I kill then try to loot gazers and I would get the error message that "you are to far away to loot this object". Come on Blizz fix the quest in Tanaris.

Seems they fixed the drop rate, I got mine in about 10 kills.

i think i got an solution.this worked for me.kill them before they stun you with the thing and you will get the item you need for the quest

Actualy he pays the exact same ammount as the goblin for Chicken of the Desert.

Killing them before they finished their first cast seemed to improve the drop rate significantly.
Prior to paying attention to their casts I had gotten zero quest items.
After I started nuking them down, I got the five items over the next seven kills.
